Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Flo Milli, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Idolator and Hypebeast. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Edits

Hi there,

I made quite a few edits to Peter Tarlow's page, only to find that it reverted back to the original. Can you please explain what is happening? LRosenzweig (talk) 21:20, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

@User:LRosenzweig Contributions to Wikipedia require independent sources to verify the accuracy of the information written. Check out WP:Verifiability and WP:Sources for more information. Unsourced information to a article about a living person is almost always reverted. Thank you, Thecowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 22:13, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
The changes I am making are on behalf of the person who is being described. Some are restructuring the article. He has no idea who put the information in the entry. In addition, it says that he has 2 children and a stepchild. I tried to correct that to 3 children per his request. Obviously there will be no source for that. 96.255.242.175 (talk) 22:27, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
Please do not edit the article if you personally know the person, this is a conflict of interest. WP:COI will detail it. Thecowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 22:49, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Flo Milli discography, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Baby Tate.

Disputed

The "Mississippi Lofts and Adler Theatre" page is incorrect. They now operate as two entirely separate entities and functions and this page needs to be split into two respective pages. You have a performance art venue tagged as an apartment which is completely inaccurate.

Mississippi Lofts: https://premierhousingmanagement.com/housing-portfolio/property-list/mississippi-lofts/ Adler Theatre: https://davenportlive.com/the-adler-theatre/

It is not ok to keep these two separate entities as one combined page. 67.131.172.2 (talk) 20:23, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

The information on the article is for the historical registry of the buildings. It is not meant to be about the business itself but about the history between the Theatre and the Lofts. Thecowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 20:33, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

sortable table

Can you provide information on sortable table? Is there a reason you would not recommend it apart from having to presumably alter reference formatting? ThanksFourLights (talk) 09:30, 27 April 2024 (UTC)

@FourLights, It breaks up the citation and breaks the shortened footnotes that you use for inline citations. You put the important information in specific parts of the table, it doesn’t work with {{cite book}}: Empty citation (help) or {{cite journal}}: Empty citation (help) at all. I only see it used on sole bibliography pages. If you use it, it’ll be a mess for people who work on citation cleanup and citation fixes. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 15:11, 27 April 2024 (UTC)

Reardon Building and why I didn't revert

Hi @Cowboygilbert, the reason is that there has been a huge number of problems with the blocked editor's sources, which is the main reason why they are blocked. There has been a team of editors working with them to mentor them on proper sourcing; this has been going on for many years (check their user talk and its archives.) If we keep fixing things for them, rather than allowing the editor to learn how to properly source, the problem may never be resolved. There have also been issues with Edit Requests being fulfilled that simply duplicates the original source problems. Please understand that there is a long history here. Thanks and best, Netherzone (talk) 17:57, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

@Netherzone, It’s good to redirect the editor to a solution and show them instead of keeping them in the dark. I didn’t see any mention from you to ask the other editor look in the source and make sure that their citation page numbers are correct. I do see that there is a long history with the editor but there can be other teaching methods by showing and explaining the issue to them and not leaving them without help to the issue that keeps getting reverted. Thank you, Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 19:23, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your quick response; to shed some more light on the matter, I did not redirect the editor to a solution, because they are not in the dark. They have been told time and again by multiple editors (including myself) and administrators about these issues that have been going on for years. Sources have been misrepresented and many errors made that have caused a huge time sink for multiple editors. There is a team of us who have been teaching and mentoring them for years. If you like you can look deeper into their talk page archives, the blocks and ANIs, their individual article talk pages, COI/UPE, etc. Thanks for your concern though, and happy editing. Netherzone (talk) 20:56, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
@Netherzone; Ah, I see now. Thank you for bringing this up to speed for me. I could tell it was an issue but did not know it has been a long time of trying to redirect the editor and teach them. If you need any help from me to try to help the editor, you can reach out to me through my talk page. Thank you, Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 22:59, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Rollback

Hi Cowboygilbert. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Fastily 00:21, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Jordan Schmidt discography

Cheers, Thank you for your recent edits. I have one question.

My statement from one of the sections you modified stated:

All material is sourced from: Jamestown Story[6] iTunes[7] Spotify[8] Disogs[9]

You removed the iTunes, Spotify, and Disogs references with the justification "unreliable sources." I understand Disogs is considered unreliable by Wikipedia due to user-generated data. The same is not true of Spotify and iTunes. The rap on iTunes is - it sometimes is missing vital information. Neither of the sites can be accused of showing favoritism or bias. Where on Wikipedia is it stated that iTunes and Spotify are unreliable data sources and, as a result, cannot be used as references?

Michael Jannetta (talk) 16:44, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

@Mtjannetta, iTunes and Spotify are not-so-great sources for music related articles. The ones for iTunes can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources#Unreliable Sources and Spotify links are just a general caution for any discography editors. I also happened to notice that you had a different variation in your style of discographies away from other discographies on the website. You can keep it per MOS:VAR but I just wanted to let you know that it isn't the standard for discographies. Instead of use iTunes, Spotify, Discogs, and Jamestown Story try to use independent sources from reputable news sources to back your claims. You can find sources at WP:PRS and WP:A/S for music-related articles. Thank you, Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 05:14, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
@Mtjannetta, I was also informed by another editor that your method of doing tables breaks MOS:TABLES and has accessbility issues for people who are colorblind or visually impaired. Would you find a way to try to work around this? Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 05:29, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Regarding the above observations - I am more than happy to fix this issues. Could you please describe specifically what "accessiblity issues" I need to correct and how I break tables.

Thank You

Michael Jannetta (talk) 14:06, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

@Mtjannetta. Well, MOS:TABLES is the generalized way that editors on Wikipedia create tables, most editors tend to stay on this variation of tables and hardly stray from it. This has been disputed, talked about, decided through consensus over the years. Accessibility issues like the dark gray headers that you have that hide the "[show]" and "[hide]" prompts which can be pretty tricky to see. Black text and dark gray background don't go together either, it gets hard for some to see. Unless, you want to WP:IAR and continue with it, be my guest. I also wanted to talk to you about your most recent article, Glossary of slang used in reviewing silent movie melodrama which breaks Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary. You do know that you can do interwiki links to Wikitonary through {{Wiktionary}}? Thank you, Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 00:24, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
I have modified the two tables on the Jordan Schmidt page. Are these tables now adhering to standards set in MOS:TABLES?
If so, I will then modify tables located on the discography page accordingly.
Thanks
Michael Jannetta (talk) 01:48, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
Looks like it. Remember, you don't have to switch your variation of the tables at the discography. But, did you see my statement about one of your most recent articles though? Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 02:07, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Apologies

I have edited here for 20 years. My motive for writing the Jennifer Klein article is contained in <!-- markup inside the uploaded article—to provide the information I was looking for when I came here, and found no article.

The individual is clearly notable—she has held WH positions in 3 recent administrations, heads a Council which has a Wikipedia article about it, and was the inaugural co-chair of that Council, where her co-chair also has a Wikipedia article about them.

The citations are more complete than the related articles referenced, and while not perfect, are good enough for a stub. Putting it at the back of the line for reasons that do not square with the quality of the piece submitted—or with comparable stub qualities already out there—just communicates that it is a waste of precious time for academics to volunteer time here.

Bottom line, the stub is good (better than most), and so ready for article space. If it is set aside for reasons of quality, I will just shake my head, and stop initiating professional quality work here. 98.206.30.195 (talk) 04:08, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

@98.206.30.195, Well, if she is notable. Find sources that establish notability. If you have been editing for 20 years on Wikipedia than you should know the subjects of an article has to have independent and reliable sources that establish notability. Primary sources do not do that. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 03:54, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Hey im new to this wikipedia stuff and like im confused what happened to my edit and what does good faith mean . Idk if im supposed to post my question here but thanks !! Haloretailstore (talk) 03:32, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

I reverted your edit on a assume good faith basis because the licensing of the photo was unknown. It said that you had took the photo but the photos looked to be from Gettys, someone’s social media, or a non-free video. You also had a misleading edit summary of saying the photo was “outdated” when the photo was from an interview a month prior to the changing of the photo. Thank you, Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 04:02, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
Wait so I'm confused on the copy right like what is it supposed to be and what was mine . Haloretailstore (talk) 05:05, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
It was suspected that the photo was a copyright violation due to the non-specific information given on the Commons description. Did you take the photo with your personal camera or did you find the photo on the internet? Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 05:06, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
My friend took the photo bc She a photographer for Flo and I asked and she said yes . Haloretailstore (talk) 05:26, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
The photo has to be released under a creative commons license. She, herself, has to upload the photo with at least some sort of proof that she took the photo and when she uploads it, it has to be under a creative commons license which can be bad for business because she could lose money because anyone who has access to Commons can use the image. So, in order to have the photo be released onto Commons or English Wikipedia, your friend has to upload it herself. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 05:34, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Jayseagull (02:22, 17 August 2024)

Hi again. I have been looking at the manual of style trying to find out what guidelines Wikipedia has for articles about books. Right now I'm specifically interested in non-fiction books. I am having trouble finding if there are guidelines for what an article about a book should look like? --Jayseagull (talk) 02:22, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Well, with any book articles it has to cover the general-notability guidlines and the specific-notability guidelines for books. MOS:NOVELS can help show the manual of style of how most book articles are structured on English Wikipedia but you can structure it to however other books look like. WP:NC-BK is the naming convention for books, this is what the title name of the article has to match. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 02:56, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Lastreso on Madhubala (11:32, 28 August 2024)

Hello, how do I upload an image to a section of an article? --Lastreso (talk) 11:32, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

You can upload images on Wikimedia Commons! I don’t usually edit in Commons but there are people there that can teach you the upload process. Help:IMAGESTART is a helpful guide to your image usage ways! Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 03:38, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

I was looking at Draft:Jennifer Klein (administrator) and I don't understand why there's a "primary source inline" template tag next to a primary source when following the primary one are two reliable secondary sources. I can also find a New York Times article with the same information and add it, but I want to understand your concern. Let me know if you prefer to discuss on the article talk page. Nnev66 (talk) 21:55, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

My question is now moot as the page Jennifer Klein (public official) was created last month. I'd leave the draft up a bit longer so its editor can transfer over any information they feel isn't in the main space article. Nnev66 (talk) 22:51, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for pointing this out. I went ahead and tagged it with a primary source tag. The non-draft article is basically a direct copy of the draft. It still has press releases and primary biography sources. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 03:11, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
@Nnev66, The first source is a primary source about her from the White House. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 03:07, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
Yes, but what's wrong with that? Primary sources can be fine for citing factual information just not for notability. I could understand if the primary source was unreliable or if it was the only source for which notability was claimed. But in this case there were primary and secondary sources. Nnev66 (talk) 03:27, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
The article relies heavily on multiple primary sources, which is bad. It needs to be introduced to more secondary or tertiary sources. Press releases are one of the worst sources that you can use. Read Wikipedia:PRSOURCE for more information for using press releases as sources. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 03:30, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
I agree press releases aren't reliable. However, a bio on the White House site should be OK for confirming that a person holds a particular position in government. I also agree that more secondary sources would improve the article in the main space. I added a couple secondary sources from interviews the subject did in her role as Director of White House Gender Policy Council. There's probably more out there so hopefully others will seek a few more reliable sources out to improve the article. Nnev66 (talk) 03:37, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
One bio is good, not 4 others. The White House one is still primary, it’s a primary source from where she works. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 22:19, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Shyamapada123 (05:55, 3 September 2024)

Hii, I have just completed my graduation in Physics. So I want to share my knowledge out the world. Tell me something which type of topics I can edit or published new topics. Other than Physics, Can I edit any subjects??? --Shyamapada123 (talk) 05:55, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

On Wikipedia, you do not need to be an expert in any field to write on Wikipedia. I edit mostly music articles but do not hold a degree in a music field. Wikipedia is free to open for anyone! I am going to send a courteous welcome message to your talk page that lists everything you need to get started! Happy editing, Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 16:17, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Thesis Question

Hi, sorry to bother you again after talking off wiki but just wanted to make sure I did it right. Is this how to cite it (as in the way it looks in edit mode)? And once again thank you so much for the help already! [1] CaptainGalaxy 23:54, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

I tweaked it a bit but looks good. Thumbs up icon Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 00:02, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
