Thanks page for Actor . Christopher Lee Power

Hi Cordless Larry

Thanks for your message. Thanks for the link. I did also find a few links such as this one http://radioclatterbridge.co.uk/index.php/latest-news/42-phil-rostance/1367-actors-wanted-to-break-free which is about his book and have included that, is this a good reference and I have included a link to a newspaper a few years ago regarding him being an actor. How many reference do I have to include. Will it go a head with just a few and if so will the two paragraphs remain , or do I have to change them. Leepbreaking (talk) 09:40, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

There's not a specific number, Leepbreaking, but the more the better. It's also about quality: coverage in national newspapers counts for more than local newspaper coverage when it comes to establishing notability. I'm a bit confused by this particular subject, I have to say. He seems to have quite a limited CV, but there is talk of a film being made about his life. Am I missing something? John Burgess

I may be a beginner who has made a mistake on manually adding references Cordless Larry but you are very wrong in your assumption that my text is a copyright violation. johnburgessactor.com is my site and all the text is my composition. A friend of mine was advising me on setting up a blog for my late father and wrongly left the text designed for the planned new Wiki page on the blog page. He has now taken it off the site. If you go to the site now, there is no text. How have you obtained the full text?

John Burgess was my late father and this is my project in honour of his memory.

What do you suggest now? I obviously feel aggrieved to be accused of copywright violation for something I wrote myself.

Thank you

Harvey Burgess Harveyburg (talk) 00:18, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello Harveyburg, and thanks for your message. I found the text via a Google search and accessed Google's cached version of the page. Using text from another website on Wikipedia isn't just a matter of ownership of the copyright. All text on Wikipedia is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 licence, so source material used here needs to be available under a compatible licence. If you own the site, you could make the material available under the ShareAlike licence, but you should be aware that that would make it available for use by everyone - not just Wikipedia editors. Given that John Burgess was your father, you should have a read of Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, which strongly discourages editing of articles about people you are related to. If you do want to go ahead, then there are instructions there on declaring and managing your conflict of interest. You should follow these. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:29, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Hi Cordless Larry
Thanks for your response.
I am happy to declare a connection and adhere to the conflict of interest policy.
Can you please clarify some issues for me. Firstly, in respect of the share alike license, I understand what you are saying about text that is on Wikipedia. But in terms of my johnburgessactor.com site, as I say, the text that I composed was placed on my site in error and has now been withdrawn. It will never again appear anywhere other than on Wiki. Does that not resolve the point you make about me having the choice to make the material on my site available under the share alike license or is it still a problem that it is/was present on Google's cached version of the page?
Also, please can you explain to me why you have concluded that my additions on Wikipedia were insufficiently sourced. Can you please explain this and give me some examples. This is extraordinary to me. Not only are many of the plays and TV shows John Burgess appeared in, in the public domain (IMDb and Theatricalia for example), they are also referred to in the obituary written by Mike Leigh in The Guardian, which I placed in the exernal links section.
In terms of the personal information about my father's life, how is that insufficiently sourced?
Thanks for your assistance
Harvey Burgess
Harveyburg (talk) 10:56, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Hello again, Harveyburg. The fact that the post on the other wesbite has been deleted may well be sufficient, but I am not an expert on copyright. I would give you some advice on referencing, but your additions to the article have now been supressed due to the copyright concerns and I therefore can no longer see them. From memory, the issue was that several of the sources you used did not meet our criteria for reliable sources, and there were statements such as about your father's family background and education that were not followed by inline citations. Placing a link to a source in the external links section is not sufficient, because a reader will have no idea what parts of the article are based on it. That's why you need to use inline citations. Hi there. You have forgotten to remove the montage from Bengalis and Bangladeshis. Thanks. --78.145.16.86 (talk) 18:03, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello, 78.145.16.86. I have already removed it from Bangladeshis, but I'm one editor and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of these articles, so I can't deal with them all myself. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:05, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, you do deserve something. What about Arabs? User:Marchjuly and a canadian user of Italian ancestry are doing your same job. I'll try to ask admins if they award you.--78.145.16.86 (talk) 20:19, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
Several people are doing the job, 78.145.16.86 - some of them much more so than me. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ethnic groups#Implementing consensus, although there are others who haven't commented there. I'm not sure how or what an admin would award me with, but I'm not doing this for rewards in any case. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:18, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

User:Cordless Larry, I think subjective infobox montages from articles like man and woman should also be removed per WP:NOETHNICGALLERIES. According to the updated Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Images#Images_for_the_lead, "Articles about ethnic groups or similarly large human populations should not be illustrated by a gallery of images of group members". The men and women represent "large human populations", so I think they are in the scope of the new guideline.64.62.219.165 (talk) 23:15, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

You'd have to start a discussion proposing that, 64.62.219.165, because it is clear that those article are outside the scope of the ethnic groups RfC. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:23, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
I see. I am not sure that I can properly present the issue. Maybe you could start the discussion, or otherwise I will ask someone else, because I think those galleries really need to be discussed. 64.62.219.165 (talk) 23:31, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, but I'm not willing to do that for you, 64.62.219.165. I suggest that you start a discussion at Talk:Man and/or Talk:Woman initially. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:58, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

I reverted you as the information you added was bloat. This is a featured article after all (albeit a pretty poor one) and any major changes or additions should really be discussed on the talk page. Although having seen the bastardisation of late on this article over the past few days (possibly years), I fear I may be too late. CassiantoTalk 18:19, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that thanks, Cassianto. I think that if there's going to be a section on his politics, it needs to cover more than just his supposed sympathy for facism, otherwise it's a case of WP:UNDUE. I've already started a discussion at Talk:David Bowie#Political views. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:23, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
Like I say, in its current state, this would be laughed off the pages at FAC, unfortunately. I'm just worried that the already long article is going to be made longer. Let's see the outcome of the discussion you've been kind enough to start; I'm happy to be proved wrong, of course. I've replied there, thanks. CassiantoTalk 18:28, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
Yep, I'm not making any claims about the current state of the article, and this was the first time I had edited. I was just trying to balance out what I saw as a rather unbalanced section. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:31, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
No, and I agree with the UNDUE claim. He certainly wasn't noted for his strong political views, as far as I know, so to have this in a section on its own is only asking for trouble in terms of more stuff being added. With that in mind, I'd be cheering for the section's removal. CassiantoTalk 19:10, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Help me

please cordless help me i dont understanding which part that you have objection on it if i write Egypt instead of Egypt, i will through the mistake?

please help me, i have a big problem with my ceo of my companyMohamed gom (talk) 20:44, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Mohamed gom. I did a Google search for several of the sentences in the Ahmed Abou Hashima article, and they were exact matches for material on various websites. That's not allowed. See Wikipedia:Copyright violations. If Ahmed Abou Hashima is the CEO of the company you work for, then you should also read and follow the advice at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:50, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

please cordless check my updates, all content are right if you search for my CEO you will find all data on the article true. i'm not professional writer on Wikipedia, i tried to follow Wikipedia terms please solve my problemMohamed gom (talk) 21:34, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

The issue is not whether the material is true, Mohamed gom, although the article is written in a promotional tone, which is against Wikipedia policies, and does not cite any sources, which is another problem. The main issue is the copyright violation. Much of the text appears to be taken from this article. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:41, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
you are right,
but iman khatab has written the aricle, which is iman the media manager of egyptian steel company and she responsible for write all information about my ceo
i will add sourcesMohamed gom (talk) 21:48, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
That doesn't give Wikipedia the right to use the material word-for-word, Mohamed gom. You also shouldn't be using sources written by employees of the company for anything other than basic facts about it. You need to find independent sources to base the article on. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:55, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello again, Mohamed gom. If you need advice about editing, then the [Wikipedia:Teahouse|Teahouse]] is the place to ask. If you want to find someone to write the article for you, then I'm afraid I don't know where to suggest looking. You could try asking that question at the Teahouse, though, and I'm sure someone would know. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:10, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello again, YellowAngelFish. No, you can't use Wikia as a source, as it is not considered reliable, in the same way that Wikipedia articles aren't seen as reliable sources for other Wikipedia articles. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:08, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
You have also recreated the article without addressing the concerns that resulted in its deletion the first time around. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:30, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
I don't get it. What does "address the concerns" mean? Please tell me... --KawaiiCafe (talk) 04:49, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm confused, KawaiiCafe. Were you also working on this article with YellowAngelFish? Addressing concerns means understanding why the article was deleted (failing to demonstrate notability) and making sure that any future attempt does not suffer the same problem (i.e. by demonstrating notability). Cordless Larry (talk) 08:29, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Don't call me KawaiiCafe, and call me Nana. And no, I am not working with YellowAngelFish. I just moved to this account, KawaiiCafe. --KawaiiCafé ◯ ‿‿ () 08:33, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
I used your username to address you, KawaiiCafe, which has the additional benefit of notifying you. I don't know why you have created a new account, but you should probably have followed the instructions at Wikipedia:Changing username instead, so that your editing history is maintained in one account. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:39, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
I believe LPS popular is very significant. Many children are creating their own TV shows with dolls, many of them LPS dolls, instead of watching corporate made-TV. This show a dramatic shift in the way the younger generation is consuming media, by being producers of their own shows. One show with the greatest following is 'LPS Popular'. KawaiiCafé ◯ ‿‿ () 08:43, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
In the way that the term is used by Wikipedia, notability is not the same thing as significance, KawaiiCafe. Take a look at Wikipedia:Notability and WP:Golden rule, which explain what the term means here. Basically, you need to provide evidence that the subect has been the subject of significant coverage in independent sources, by citing those sources in any article. If you want to have another go at creating an article, I suggest using Wikipedia:Articles for creation to start a draft. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:52, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks much. Looks like I might have bit off more than I can chew. In the past, really blatant DUCK situations like this have not required diffs. If you can help with diffs of at least those seven it would be great. Coretheapple (talk) 13:27, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Surely the evidence in this case is that all of the accounts are promotional SPAs, Coretheapple? Of course, it may be possible that the same person isn't behind them all, but it seems likely that they are. Cordless Larry (talk) 13:53, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Exactly. If you have the time, feel free to contribute diffs as you have. I think they just want to see diffs showing similarity, not necessarily misconduct. I thought the user histories were sufficient. That diff you found already was very helpful. Coretheapple (talk) 14:40, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Actually that's not necessary - edit history was not that long. SPI report finished. "Only" eight socks. Thanks again for your help - that diff is very important!Coretheapple (talk) 00:19, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Lance Hohaia

Thanks for your reply. As I stated in my initial query, I am Lances' father and there are a few U tube clips under Lance Hohaia where I do verify various aspects of his rugby league career but I was thinking that it would be ideal to create (?) a bio of his 'Early Years phase' in one area and Wikipedia would be the vehicle. It's a fantastic source of information. I'm mindful of what you say about verifiable but at the end of the day, those aspect/articles originated from somewhere (sometimes fake!!)and that's what I on about. I am Lances' father and you can't get more hands-on than that! Yes, I understand what you're trying to do, but it has to be possible for everything you add to Wikipedia to be verified by any reader checking a published source, so none of it can be based on your personal knowledge or experience. sources

If I mention a comment by B. C. Khanduri from this source, then am I POV pushing ? The google snippet view is small, but can be read.

The eighth paragraph of this article by Deccan Herald states "The JNUSU under Leftist control has a dubious reputation. In 2000, it organised a mushaira, inviting poets from Pakistan, at which India was ridiculed and anti-India statements made. Two soldier veterans of the Kargil war objected and were beaten up. They were hospitalised. Sacrifices made by Indian soldiers in war with Pakistan count for little among our intellectuals at JNU." The word anti-India is mentioned. If I mention that in Wikipedia, then is it POV edit? --Captain Spark (talk) 17:11, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Captain Spark. If you add material in Wikipedia's voice that states that JNU is under leftist control or is anti-India, then yes, I think that is POV. If you carefully explain that Khanduri and Herald have described it as such, then it probably isn't POV. See WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV on this. I hope that helps you. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:24, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
No I didn't mention JNU is under leftist control or anti-India. I quoted and mentioned that the comment was made by BC Khanduri, but still it was reverted as POV pushing. Captain Spark (talk) 17:33, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
In that case, Captain Spark, you should discuss the matter at Talk:Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, per WP:BRD. I don't know much about the context, but even if a comment has been clearly attributed to a source, if it is considered a marginal or extreme view, then including it in the article might be considered undue weight. Perhaps that is why you were reverted, but I don't know. Take it to the article talk page. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:37, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
I tried talk page, but it's not working. I won't comment there anymore. They know many policies which I am not aware right now. Captain Spark (talk) 09:20, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
When you say it's not working, Captain Spark, do you mean that people are disagreeing with you, or that the discussion is not attracting enough contributors to establish consensus? If you want wider involvement, you might consider making use of Wikipedia:Requests for comment. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:24, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
They are claiming that my sources are not reliable which are from Deccan Chronicle, Daily Mail, IBN-7 and Rajasthan Patrika, which states something opposite of sources from these three: Rediff.com, The Tribune (Chandigarh) and The Hindu. They claim Deccan Chronicle article was written by Srinivas Kumar Sinha, so can't be trusted as he is a retired army officer. They find Daily Mail was written by a biased writer and as it is published in 2016, it is wrong about an incident in 2000. They find IBN-7 and Rajasthan Patrika as local newspaper and the source is personal opinion and tabloid. Among the sources that they support, I found only The Hindu as neutral according to their own logic as the Rediff.com (website founded in 1996, publishing an online article in 2000, when the website is 4 years old) and Tribune editorial which is also written as personal opinion. They trust the personal opinion of the Tribune editor but not the personal opinion of those who wrote the articles in Deccan Chronicle and Daily Mail. Captain Spark (talk) 10:03, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
I suggest opening a request for comment, Captain Spark. I don't know much about those sources, other than the Daily Mail - which I would avoid (see WP:DAILYMAIL) unless it's just to factually report the opinion of a columnist there. Cordless Larry (talk) 10:08, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I know that there are discussions for deletion for this article, but possibly adding extra references and making the page a 'stub' could possibly improve the chances of survival for this article?

Please reply to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:East_Anglian_Regional

Thank you. East Anglian Regional (talk) 17:06, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Adding more references might help if they demonstrate that the school meets the criteria set out at WP:ORG or WP:GNG, East Anglian Regional. Most schools don't meet these criteria, though. Making the page a stub doesn't deal with the notability concerns. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:50, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Addition to a page

Dear Cordless Larry, A section titled "famous and notable maltipoos" has been deleted twice by you from the Maltipoo page. And you left a message to propose these editions on your Talk page. Wikipedia not a "reliable source"

Thanks for your edit and message. Most academic institutions do not allow Wikipedia as a "reliable source" for papers, etc. It's ironic that Wikipedia takes the same view of itself. Vejlefjord (talk) 00:22, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Well, I wouldn't say that it is ironic but rather simply necessary, Vejlefjord. The risk of circular referencing would be too great if this rule didn't exist. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:16, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Most of your edits at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#Religious_Bias. RockMagnetist(talk) 23:26, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
Take another look and you'll see that it is the editor who I am responding to who is not indenting comments, RockMagnetist. I have been indenting mine. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:30, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. I don't think I lost anything in that revert to last stable version. Did I? I think that content you restored came afterward. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:14, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Anna Frodesiak. Your revert changed "was" back to "will be". That change was made a couple of days before your revert. Not a problem though! Cordless Larry (talk) 10:20, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
Ah, it must have been added and removed during that span. My revert shows no difference between the 06:18, 10 March 2016‎ version and my version. I feel a bit daft today. I have been doing some off-wiki things today that have taxed my brain and I'm a bit spaced out. I still haven't quite figured out when it was added and removed. :) Thank you kindly for finding that. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:31, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
No worries at all, Anna Frodesiak. I'd had it in my mind to make these changes since I first saw the edit in any case. Cordless Larry (talk) 10:39, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Another contributor re-inserting incorrect information

Hi there, I corrected a factual inaccuracy on the page on a living person (Sugata Bose), by deleting the claim that he is married to Ayesha Jalal (the page on whom I also corrected). Mr Bose is unmarried. Another contributor repeatedly re-inserted the inaccurate information (on both pages), using as 'source' media items which contain the inaccurate claim (probably taken from Wikipedia!). As I am deleting inaccurate information, I cannot put in any 'attribution'. Also, it is not possible to provide proof of something that is non-existent. There is a legal affidavit by Mr Bose available online which shows he has no spouse. But as I am only deleting wrong information, not adding any, I couldn't see any way of referencing it. I can't understand why the other contributor insists on the wrong marital status....Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danube41 (talkcontribs) 17:14, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Religion and Advertising of Controversial Products

Hello Larry,

I have recently contributed to Wikipedia. The article that i have written is Religion and Advertising of Controversial Products. I see that the article may be deleted on some grounds. I was hoping you can give me some suggestions on how i can improve this article. Also i was thinking that maybe i should shorten this and add this to the advertising page rather than having a page for its own.

Your advise is appreciated!

Regards,

Akshay Massey — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akshaymassey (talkcontribs) 21:09, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Akshaymassey. Religion and Advertising of Controversial Products reads more like an essay than an encyclopedia article, and appears to include original research (did you conduct the questionnaire?), which Wikipedia does not publish. I suggest heading over to Wikipedia:Teahouse for further advice. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:56, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Larry,

I did not conduct the study not developed the questionnaire, but i do agree with your insights. Where can i request this article to be taken off? I will modify this article as per the requirements and post it under the advertising section.

Thanks for your help!

The deletion discussion is taking place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Religion and Advertising of Controversial Products, so you might want to comment there, Akshaymassey. Please note that Wikipedia doesn't have an "advertising section", though. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:06, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

You often advise people at the Teahouse who want article about themselves or their bands to post requests to WP:Requested articles. While that is the right answer on paper, there is no right answer in reality. You are essentially telling them to put their requests in, if not a black hole, a rabbit hole. (It isn't a black hole because they are still there, and the information paradox does not apply. However, articles very seldom come out of the hole. Rabbits and wiki-gnomes may go in and out, but they seldom bring articles out.) You are probably doing the right thing, in that, if they think that they will get their articles some day, they will avoid posting them to AFC and wasting everyone's time. Perhaps the right answer would be to tell them that if they or their bands are notable, someone else will do it, but, since they probably aren't notable, no on will do it. As long as they think that their articles will come out, it is a Lie to children. Thanks, sort of. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:17, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Good point, Robert McClenon (although I think "often" is a stretch), and I myself wonder whether it is worth telling people to post there, but that is the correct forum, whereas the Teahouse isn't the place to ask other editors to write an article. I'll consider just telling them what you suggest in future. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:22, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
After writing that, I think that it is best to do as you do. Just tell them to go to RA, and maybe they will do so, and maybe nothing will happen for a while. That keeps them from asking us to write their article, or from submitting a draft and asking us to clean it up from their bias. I think that the advice is a Lie to children, and is the right advice to give to children who want us to help them. Once in a while, they may really have notable topics. Usually, they don't. It is often kinder to tell them to go to a rabbit hole than to tell them that they aren't notable. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:30, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
What I was going to write above, but didn't quite get around to, Robert McClenon, was that I think in future I might tell them that if the subject is notable, or becomes notable, then at some point it will get written about, and that putting in a request might speed that up that process a little, but that there's no guarantee. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:32, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
I put my grandfather in in 2013. He was the principal author of the United States Code. He hasn't come out. Actual notability is no evidence that an article will come out. However, it is a useful rabbit hole. If you shrink to rabbit size and go down the rabbit hole, you won't bother the rest of us. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:38, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Superdiversity

The DRN thread cannot be opened until you are properly notified. Also, the filing party misspelled your user name, but I corrected it. We are still waiting for proper notice. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:12, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Is there anything I could or should do, Robert McClenon? Cordless Larry (talk) 18:19, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
No. If you are properly notified, you are encouraged, but not required, to file a statement, and are encouraged, but not required, to participate in moderated discussion. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:22, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Also, did you see my comment about the removed RfC? How does that affect a possible case? Cordless Larry (talk) 18:21, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I saw it. It doesn't affect a case, since it was withdrawn. An open RFC would pre-empt other dispute resolution. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:22, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification, Robert McClenon. To be honest, judging by the user's comments on the article talk page, I don't think they really understand much about how Wikipedia works, and they may well not be aware of what they need to do in relation to DRN. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:26, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
First, it is common for filing parties who come to DRN not to understand much about DRN or Wikipedia. That isn't a problem if they are willing to listen, because the moderator can explain how Wikipedia works and how DRN works. It only becomes a problem if one of the parties (filing or otherwise) is stubborn, and then the moderator can fail the case after admonishing the parties. Many new editors don't understand, but DRN can be a way to learn. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:11, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Second, I have never heard of superdiversity outside of Wikipedia. That makes me think that it is Commonwealth English, and it appears that the closest American English equivalent is affirmative action. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:11, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Third, since the dispute seems to be about superdiversity in New Zealand, it isn't clear whether the article should be superdiversity, or superdiversity in New Zealand, or New Zealand, or what, but that can come out in DRN, if accepted. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:11, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi Robert McClenon. My point was really just that the editor could perhaps do with some guidance on how to notify the other parties, as I suspect that they don't realise they need to do this. Perhaps a Teahouse invite would be in order? I'd be perfectly happy to take part if the case gets off the ground, though I am by no means an expert in the topic. The only reason I got involved is that the article is on my watchlist from when there was some dispute over use of the term at Somalis in the United Kingdom. I am familiar with some of the literature, however, and I can say for sure that superdiversity isn't the same thing as affirmative action. The latter is a policy prescription designed to reduce inequalities between racial or ethnic groups, whereas superdiversity is really a descriptive concept that describes the changing nature of diversity in countries such as the UK. The idea is basically that whereas such countries have a history of large-scale immigration from a limited range of countries, in recent decades these migration flows come from a much broader range of countries and include an increasing range of people, from workers to students to refugees. This article, by the sociologist who coined the term, explains it better than I can. On your final point, I agree that there is some confusion about the article is actually about. The material about New Zealand was added relatively recently, and is the source of the dispute. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:25, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
I understand your point about the difference between superdiversity and affirmative action. However, the term superdiversity is not, to the best of my knowledge, used in the United States, so that I assume it is a Commonwealth term. As to whether to notify the other party how to notify, I will let them ask. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:16, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
It's barely used outside of academia (in fact, outside of the discipline of sociology), Robert McClenon. There is some literature applying the concept to the United States and to the Netherlands, but most of it is focused on the UK from what I can tell. If you asked a British person on the street what it meant, though, I very much doubt that they would have heard of the term. It doesn't get used much in the media or in policy circles, from what I can tell. By contrast, I was at the British Sociological Association conference last week, and it was a bit of buzzword. Cordless Larry (talk) 06:07, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
In that case, the term may not have existed around 1970 in the United States, but was implemented by a reform of the immigration act which eliminated national origin quotas and focused on in-demand job skills and family unification, and had the effect of significantly increasing immigration from Latin America and Asia as opposed to from Europe. I don't know what superdiversity would be in New Zealand since I don't know what non-British immigrants New Zealand has traditionally had. I understand that the United Kingdom has accepted some number of immigrants from former African and Asian colonies, so that superdiversity would be from other parts of Asia and Latin America. So in the political sphere it is a goal of immigration policy, while affirmative action has to do with citizens and examines their national origin. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:55, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
I remember Somalis in the United Kingdom, where eventually someone had to be topic-banned. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:55, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that article led to all sorts of fun and games, Robert McClenon (sarcasm!). Cordless Larry (talk) 15:50, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, the first time the term was used was by Steve Vertovec in 2005. Of course, the conditions it describes may have pre-dated that significantly. Cordless Larry (talk) 16:56, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

If you have any other questions about Wikipedia, you might want to ask them at the Teahouse, where you can get input from a wider range of editors. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:26, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Oh, I now see that you probably mean that you want to change the title of an article. To do that, you need to click "Move page" on the "Page" drop-down menu, but you can only do so once your account is autoconfirmed, which happens automatically once it is more than four days old and you have made at least 10 edits.
