RE:Packers ProjectThanks, and thank you! The layout is a great design! The colors I picked were the official colors of the Green Bay Packers, so I figured it would only be fitting if I used those colors for the Packers Project. But again, thanks for the layout, it made the Project look so good! « Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 23:46, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

NERIC-Security (talk) 12:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC) Thanx for the BarnstarI'm honored. I logged in today for the first time since last year and was surprised to see that. I had stopped bothering trying to improve Cold War/espionage articles because one particular user with a political ax to grind was arbitrarily deleting or reverting my edits. When I pointed out to him that his behavior was a violation of WP policy, he thumbed his nose at me. When I sought help from Admins, I found surprising indifference. So I dropped out of WP. It's just too frustrating to see hours of work butchered in a few seconds by an ignoramus or partisan hack, with no consequent enforcement of rules. I don't mind my contributions being edited, but I put a lot of research into them, so I would appreciate it if the edits reflected some knowledge, or desire to improve the articles, or something other than a desire to "disappear" inconvenient facts down the memory hole -- or at least did not constitute blatant policy violations. (The user in question appears to have read Orwell's 1984, and to have embraced O'Brien as his role model.) The last straw was when he agreed not to revert my edits in a particular dispute until we received third-party input, then broke his word. His editorial technique is that employed by the editors of The Great Soviet Encyclopedia in their infamous edit of the article on Lavrentii Beria. I have thousands of historically priceless primary source documents on Cold War espionage at the Center for Security Research, all of which I am willing to donate to the commons. Their inclusion as source material could vastly improve WP's articles in this area. I would be happy to return to WP if I could find just one Admin willing to investigate charges of repeated and gross policy violations. NYC Meetup: June 1, 2008
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, elect a board of directors, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes). We'll also review our recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wiki Week bonanza, being planned with Columbia University students for September or October. In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes. You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list. Also, check out our regional US Wikimedia chapters blog Wiki Northeast (and we're open to guest posts). Fair use rationale for Image:Aquariuslogo.GIFThanks for uploading File:Aquariuslogo.GIF. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media). If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I am just trying to get a hold over relevant articles and simplify assessments. No more no less. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 19:44, 4 July 2008 (UTC) I have said I made a mistake, I have admitted I used poor wording which resulted in the misunderstanding and I never blamed the bot. What I believe is that the bot was simply doing what it was told to do, that I failed to fully grasp the level of problems with the way I tried to do things and that people should take better care when categorizing articles. If our contributors would take the time to properly categorize their articles, this wouldn't have happened. Evidently, this is not the first time this kind of incident has occurred. The response was to blame the people who were simply trying get things done instead of addressing the underlying issue. No one has taken the lead to correct the problems: a lack of a system to insure the proper categorization of articles; provide a better, less complicated way to search out and tag articles as appropriately and a way to logically index this now massive project called Wikipedia. Ask yourself, why was the Irish Famine categorized under Potato varieties? Why were Woodworking articles classified as Foods? This is insane, and it took this incident to make this painfully obvious to me. Have you taken a real look at my proposal, or just dismissed it deciding I was a pompous ass? Have you considered the merits of working together to get things done? All I wanted to do was fix things that were messed up, foster a sense of community with the other foodies and make life easier for our related projects. I made mistakes, and I admitted to them while you just pointed them out and complained. As for the integrated functions of the banners, I will look to others to see if this is doable later or If I should just abandon all the work I put into it once I have established a better relationship with the projects after a cooling off period. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 03:17, 5 July 2008 (UTC) Issues with TinucherianBot in Project Banner Tagging for WP:FOODThank you for expressing your concerns on the recent issues with TinucherianBot in Project Banner Tagging for WP:FOOD . So, basically, I let the user choose a project from a list, and need to find the corresponding banner template. Your list is really very helpful to that end, and saves a lot of work for me. However, there are also a number of issues which I wanted to let you know about. First, there are some (minor) technical problems regarding character encoding in the file; I will post these directly on Sourceforge. Second, the quality of the data is not as high as I hoped it was. Of course, it is difficult to generate a consistent list, given the current state of the project organization; and we definitely need to invest some effort in writing something like Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Technical standards for WikiProjects, carefully but with insistence. Still, these are some problems I ran across:
I'm not sure whether any of these can reasonably be fixed, but I thought you might be interested anyway. --B. Wolterding (talk) 17:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC) Second Annual WikiNYC PicnicGreetings! You are invited to attend the second annual New York picnic on August 24! This year, it will be taking place in the Long Meadow of Prospect Park in Brooklyn. If you plan on coming, please sign up and be sure to bring something! Please be sure to come! Question about official thingsDear ClockworkSoul, I am writing you as a member of the WikiProject Molecular and Cellular Biology. I am working on the field of chemotaxis and some chemotaxis related articles/stubs and the figures belonging to the text are uploaded by me to the Wiki. As this activity is a very essential part of my professional life – I am a researcher of chemotactic signalling – these keywords (chemotaxis, chemokinesis, haptotaxis, chemoattractant etc.) are made by me and my group not only in English but on more languages (French, Spanish, Hungarian and German). Up to know there was no problem, but last week or so 4 of the keywords were removed withgout any massage, tags etc. from the German Wiki and when I was asking about this an endless correspondence developed, which was finished by me as I think Wiki is not for wars but for building and improving an encyclopedia. Today morning I have found that some of my figures were tagged to be removed even on the English (Spanish, French, Hungarian) Wiki by a Geman member. (All the images are made by me, there is only one where more than 50 year old photos are used or such ones where I have the right to use it.) What should I do in this case? Who should I contact in such cases? This is very kid-like, nevertheless it destroys our work. I am sorry to disturb you with such a silly thing but I think you have encountered with such problems before. Thanks for your help in advance. Please feel free to comment. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 09:48, 16 August 2008 (UTC) Project page redesign, can you please check WP:SFBAThanks for the great project design template. I just finished doing a redesign of the Wikipedia:WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area's pages based on your design for WP viruses, microbio, etc. I think I got everything squared away (I even worked with User:Hersfold to make a template set for listing project participants {{pjpt}}), but when you have a moment could you take a look at the project page to make sure I didn't do anything wrong. -Optigan13 (talk) 10:34, 17 August 2008 (UTC) Category based Bot TaggingHi there, I hope you remember expressing serious concerns regarding category based WikiProject tagging by bots here. I made this FAQ list which tries to answer some of your concerns. Let me know if you have any questions . Thanks -- Tinu Cherian – 11:27, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

This will have a posting if the event is delayed due to weather or other exigency. Thanks, You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list. Adopted your user page template and have a question or two...Hello Mr. Soul, I have used your template (fabulous template, btw) on my user page. I have yet to edit much of it and this is on-going. One particular issue I am having is with the bottom section (where your "Barnstarium" is located). I've utilized it to display the states I have visited, but if you view the page you will see that the "edit" link that should be in the lower right corner of the section is actually displayed outside the section altogether. I've pondered a solution to this but I'm not the programming expert I need to be in this case. I'd appreciate your input on this as well as your overall thoughts on the page so far. I'm trying to learn how MediaWiki and, more specifically, Wikipedia ticks. How it does some of the things it does (templates, infoboxen, etc., etc., etc.) is fascinating to me. I only wish someone could/would box up a snapshot of Wikipedia's underlying code (the templates space, for instance) and make it available for others to poke around in on their own test sites. Have a great day and I look forward to your response. Overboard (talk) 17:24, 24 September 2008 (UTC) Talkback (again)Hello, ClockworkSoul. In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, finalize and approve bylaws, interact with representatives from the Software Freedom Law Center, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the June meeting's minutes and the September meeting's minutes). We'll also review our recent Wikis Take Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wikipedia Loves Art! bonanza, being planned with the Brooklyn Museum for February. In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes. You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list. To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list. Greetings and quick questionDear Mr. Soul, We have exchenged two messages three years ago and i hope you are well. Long story short, it has been so long since I edited anything but I would like to start again and I would like to translate the Egnlish page of Francis Bacon (painter) into Chinese which I shall be capable of doing, language wise. However, I have not found any directions regarding translating English page into another language, hence, I'm here writing on you talk page asking for help. Thank you for your time and I hope you are still the man you were (nice and helpful). Ralbot (talk) 10:34, 23 November 2008 (UTC) Please explainHi, you left an neutrality note on the Pooktre page which says "Discussion of this nomination can be found on the talk page. (December 2008)" but you haven't left discussion on the talk page as to why you feel this is so. Which makes it hard for other editors to see what it is you think is the issue. I have left a note there for you on the Pooktre talk page. Thank you for your input and time. Blackash (talk) 00:10, 7 December 2008 (UTC) German bread consumptionSome years ago, you voiced some doubt as to wether germans can eat as much bread as the article claimed. Well, I was bored and did some research: It seems as if they eat twice as much. --83.171.183.254 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 21:25, 9 December 2008 (UTC).

When we had discussed the bjcp last August, I was very impressed by you. You supported inclusion of the link, but because the consensus was to exclude it, you, without question, said, OK, we won't include it. That incident remains for me an example of how WP should work, but often does not. I have always supported WP:RS. As virtually all editors pointed out in the August discussion, the bjcp style guideline varied from reality in the European beer world. Has that changed? You wrote "The user Mikebe is a rabid critic of the BJCP, and in the two years that he has been editing has fought fiercely to exclude any reference to it from beer-related articles." This was written by the same ClockworkSoul from last August? If you have been watching the beer style article, you know that two (?) users starting reverting the bjcp link several weeks after our discussion ended. They were reverted by several other editors, including me. They have since been accused of being sockpuppets (Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/96.247.37.61 (3rd)) and trolls (Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts#User:LouPepe and User:sgt dizzle guy). You will note that neither report was filed by me. One of them (?) has now started leaving notes on my talk page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AMikebe&diff=258450769&oldid=257671685 And finally, let's take a look at how this recent discussion on the talk page started: Template:RFCecon list You will note that the editor who posted that wrote: "Issue has been discussed at length multiple times in the past but no consensus has been reached." Is that true? As the person who made the decision that consensus had been reached, don't you find that a "bad faith" statement? He also wrote: "One external site in particular has been advocated by several editors but strongly opposed by two." Is that true? Let's see: Silktork, KillingVector, Ron Pattinson, Dunkelweizen, Stlemur and I all opposed the link. Is that two? Another bad faith statement. Is my faith in you now misplaced? I hope not because you were one of the few editors here who didn't let POV influence their decisions. And, unfortunately, there are not many editors like that. Mikebe (talk) 10:03, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
HowdyThanks for the comment. I've been trying to keep cool over this, I apologize if I've taken it to excess. This little edit war between Spotfixer and myself is highly unproductive and perhaps a little pathetic on both our parts. Unfortunately I don't think either one of us is going to win the other over and we'll probably just keep fighting until then. I don't know too much about the admin side of Wikipedia but is there any where the two of us could go to get a third party ruling on which version on the edits should stay? Would the Mediation Committee be an appropriate place for this? - Schrandit (talk) 05:27, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Beer style pageHow do I know you were referring to me? Here: Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Mikebe Secondly, you refer me to good faith, but may I remind you that I gave all my reasons for excluding the bjcp in August when we last had this very same discussion. So, I will ask you: is it good faith to write "The user Mikebe is a rabid critic of the BJCP, and in the two years that he has been editing has fought fiercely to exclude any reference to it from beer-related articles." when four months earlier I had explained quite rationally why the bjcp does not belong on an encyclopedia site? About what I wrote: I have written at least four times that the bjcp clearly falls under WP:LINKSTOAVOID and not once has anyone contradicted me. This indicates to me that no one disagrees with this. So, I will remove the bjcp link. When a site so clearly violates WP policies, I don't understand why there is a discussion. Either it violates it or not, and this case seems very clear to me. Also, I want you to know that I don't dislike the bjcp, it's just that they are so clearly unsuited for an encyclopedia that is based on fact or verifiable fact. And I don't dislike you either! Mikebe (talk) 16:40, 31 December 2008 (UTC) Sorry, I didn't mean that I am going to immediately delete the bjcp link. I'll wait a few days for a response from you. Mikebe (talk) 16:53, 31 December 2008 (UTC) Happy New Year!Happy new Headcheese!-hexaChord2 02:22, 1 January 2009 (UTC) Assigned readingI would strongly recommend that you learn other languages -- you'll probably find Dutch, German and Czech the most important for beer. Then you can learn the truth about beer instead of the fiction written in the brewers guide books. Since the bjcp guide probably uses those books as source, it proves how inaccurate they are. Once you've learned Dutch, I strongly recommend the books written by Jef van den Steen on Belgian beer. They are really excellent and cover the Trappists, abbey and geuze/kriek each in a separate book. Good luck with your exams. Mikebe (talk) 22:04, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
