Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited William Montagu (judge), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dominican. Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Gerald of Wales may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

The math bothers me

In your change of Feb 2013 to George Jeffreys, 1st Baron Jeffreys you give a date for second marriage as "1665-6". Yet the preceding paragraph has the first marriage as "1667". Could you re-check that? Shenme (talk) 01:19, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

Sure thing.

Ah-turns out 1665-6 was a sloppy reference to her father's year as Mayor. She married Jeffreys in 1679. Chrisdoyleorwell (talk) 08:48, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

Some questions and observations about an edit you made to Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon

When you edit an article as you did here. Please do not split paragraphs that are covered by a citation without adding the citation to the first half of the now divided paragraph:

This time was not wasted. In later years, Clarendon declared that "next the immediate blessing and providence of God Almighty" he "owed all the little he knew and the little good that was in him to the friendships and conversation... of the most excellent men in their several kinds that lived in that age."[1] These included Ben Jonson, John Selden, Edmund Waller, John Hales and especially Lord Falkland. From their influence and the wide reading in which he indulged, he doubtless drew the solid learning and literary talent which afterwards distinguished him.[2] The diarist Samuel Pepys wrote thirty years later that he never knew anyone who could speak as well as Hyde. He was one of the most prominent members of the famous Great Tew Circle, a group of intellectuals who gathered at Falkland's country house Great Tew.

Text in the EB1911:

This wandering from the beaten track, however, was not without its advantages. In later years Clarendon declared “next the immediate blessing and providence of God Almighty” that he “owed all the little he knew and the little good that was in him to the friendships and conversation . . . of the most excellent men in their several kinds that lived in that age.”[1] These included Ben Jonson, Selden, Waller, Hales, and especially Lord Falkland; and from their influence and the wide reading in which he indulged, he doubtless drew the solid learning and literary talent which afterwards distinguished him.

So when you split the paragraph into two:

This time was not wasted. In later years, Clarendon declared that "next the immediate blessing and providence of God Almighty" he "owed all the little he knew and the little good that was in him to the friendships and conversation... of the most excellent men in their several kinds that lived in that age."[3] These included Ben Jonson, John Selden, Edmund Waller, John Hales and especially Lord Falkland, who became his best friend.

From their influence and the wide reading in which he indulged, he doubtless drew the solid learning and literary talent which afterwards distinguished him.[2] The diarist Samuel Pepys wrote thirty years later that he never knew anyone who could speak as well as Hyde. He was one of the most prominent members of the famous Great Tew Circle, a group of intellectuals who gathered at Lord Falkland's country house Great Tew, Oxfordshire.

Your broke the support of the inline citation to EB1911 from supporting the sentence "These include..." So you needed to add the EB1911 citation tag to the end of the sentence "The diarist ...".

Also you added a new fact "who became his best friend". How do you know that and why did you not include an inline-citation for that fact?

In the same edit (or more precisely series of edits) you added several quotes. See Verifiability Poliy—It states "All quotations,... must include an inline citation that directly supports the material." To add the quotes to the article you must have got them from somewhere so please add them (if needed you will find two citations to the Goring quote in the article Cavalier).

-- PBS (talk) 11:18, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

All points duly noted. The quotes were from a selection of Hyde's own writings. I will check the references. Chrisdoyleorwell (talk) 13:43, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

The article List of Lords Justices of the Irish Court of Appeal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I've moved the information to Court of Appeal in Ireland#Personnel, as it's short enough for that page, and easier for navigation to have all the information on one page.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 13:51, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, List of Lords Justices of the Irish Court of Appeal. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Court of Appeal in Ireland#Personnel. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Court of Appeal in Ireland#Personnel. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. 66.87.64.225 (talk) 07:05, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Chrisdoyleorwell.

As one of Wikipedia's most experienced Wikipedia editors,
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Making History Alternate Spelling Source

Hi,

It appears you made an edit to Making History (play) in November 2015 stating that there was a version of the play with the alternate spellings "Aodh Mór Ó Néill" and "Aodh Rua Ó Domhnaill". Where did you hear about this? What version is it? I've checked the 1989 print and the 1990 print; it's not in either version.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Leoline Jenkins, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Heiress (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

William Brooke (MP, died 1643)

Your last edit to William Brooke (MP, died 1643) created a confusing sentence. I have edited it to something that makes sense grammatically, but could you check it to make sure that I didn't change your intended meaning? Thanks, Leschnei (talk) 21:49, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Francis Osborne, 5th Duke of Leeds

I've tagged the last sentence in the lede for this page, because it contains some pretty damning assertions that - especially given the entirely offline nature of the references section - I feel need backing up directly. Would be great if you could assist by adding a reference for this sentence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Speaktorob (talkcontribs) 14:50, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you made a change to an article, George Feilding, 1st Earl of Desmond, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Thomas Dillon, 4th Viscount Dillon

Dear Chrisdoyleorwell. The article Thomas Dillon, 4th Viscount Dillon is one of the many where you are a major contributor. I am busy trying to add more citations to the article so that it might pass something better than Start-Class in the next rating. I found nothing to support the statement you added at 9:31 on 12 Feb 2014 reading "He was briefly one of the Lords Justices". Do you still remember where you got it from? In Warner (https://archive.org/details/historyrebellio00warngoog/page/n30) I found: "... [Charles I] appointed Lord DILLON and Sir W. PARSONS Lord Justices of that kingdom, but finding the former not agreeable to the committee and the English Parliament because of his intimacy and alliance with the Earl of STRAFFORD, his Majesty imprudently cancelled the commission ..." and in Bagwell (https://archive.org/details/irelandunderstua01bagw/page/312) "As soon as Wandesford's death was known Robert Lord Dillon and Sir William Parsons were appointed Lords Justices.". So this Lord Justice was well a Dillon but perhaps not Thomas. However, one often finds contradictory information in older sources. I hope that the source in which you found the information is a different and more explicit one than Warner. With many thanks for your precious time (a lawyer's!) Johannes Schade (talk) 13:29, 9 May 2020 (UTC) Hello- Sorry for the confusion. If Lord Dillon was Robert, this would be the future 2nd Earl of Roscommon Best wishes Chrisdoyleorwell (talk) 17:24, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Dear Chrisdoyleorwell. Thank you very much for your answer. Yes, it seems to be a confusion. I found yesterday evening that Carte also says it was Robert, the 2nd Earl of Roscommon. I feel that it is quite sure that Thomas never was Lord Justice and I will remove that from his article. Best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:55, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Robert Dillon (judge)

Dear Chrisdoyleorwell. The article Robert Dillon (judge) mainly deals with Robert Dillon (c. 1540 – 1597) but also contains material that belongs to another Robert Dillon, whom I call Robert Dillon of Newtown (following Ball). Oxford Dictionary of National Biography has articles for both of them, called Dillon, Robert (c. 1540–1597) and Dillon Robert (d. 1579?) respectively. You can see these two Robert Dillons also on the family tree of the article Lucas Dillon. The existing article "Robert Dillon (judge)" should be cleaned up and a new article should be created for "the other judge Robert Dillon". I feel that this honour should be yours. Otherwise, I might do it. Best regards Johannes Schade (talk) 11:18, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Many thanks I was aware of the confusion and always intended to get aound to it someday. Lockdown isn't the ideal time but I will do my best. Chrisdoyleorwell (talk) 11:28, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Category: People of Elizabethan Ireland

Hi - we've crossed paths before on articles included in this category. I think there are dozens of yours listed. Problem is there seems to have been an admin decision to depopulate the category, sometimes replacing it with Anglo-Irish people of the 16thC. The total has shrunk from about 300 down to 250 without discussion. Would appreciate if you took a look, with a view to help reverse the changes - too many for me to deal with, and I'm unsure how to take on the Wikipedia pros at their own game. Cheers.
