Mentorship

Hi Chris. I'm currently in the process of negotiating an unblock for User:RickWilliams75. One of the unblock conditions was that he find himself a mentor, and he's asked if you would consider the role. You'll need to take a look at his contribution history and his talkpage to get a full understanding of the situation. It's a basic WP:ROPE unblock; if he steps over the line again, a perma-indef is headed his way.

This would be a mentorship, rather than a normal adoption - you would need to keep a close eye on his editing to ensure that he kept to the terms of the unblock (in brief: no vandalism and a three month topic ban on altering music genres in band articles). You'd need to provide him with guidance, intervene in any disputes he got into, and generally make sure he doesn't get into trouble.

If you're willing to take him on, please drop me a line on my talkpage and I'll sort things out. You aren't under any obligation; if this isn't something you want to do, please say so and I'll ask him to choose again. Cheers, Yunshui  06:57, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for agreeing to take him on; I'll go and unblock him in a moment. Should you run into trouble, I'd suggest contacting myself, Dennis Brown or JamesBWatson, all of whom know the circumstances of his block and unblock pretty well. If you can't get a response from any of us, you can request a block as his mentor at ANI.
I'm going to spell out the terms again on Rick's talkpage, so I suggest you take a look there to be clear on what he can and can't do. I've seen your mentorship in action, so I'm sure you'll do a good job, but remember Rick's on sufferance; you don't have to advocate for him if he breaks the terms of his unblock, just report him and have done with it.
Thanks again; I'm sure you have his gratitude as well. Cheers, Yunshui  07:36, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Chris the Paleontologist. I'm dropping you a note because you used to (or still do!) patrol new pages. This is just to let you know that we've deployed and developed Page Curation, which augments and supersedes Special:NewPages - there are a lot of interesting new features :). There's some help documentation here if you want to familiarise yourself with the system and start using it. If you find any bugs or have requests for new features, let us know here. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:30, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Going forward

Sorry it took me so long to check my messages. I just found my adoption page. I'm open for whatever lessons you would like to teach me. I don't feel like I know very much of anything yet."Selene Scott (talk) 14:57, 27 September 2012 (UTC)"

Thanks

Thank you for fixing the thing on DB Class E 320. That guy has also messed with United States but I cannot fix it because it is locked. Can you? [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.94.154.235 (talk) 23:08, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Can you put the sources on the page for me? im not good at it and really dont want to make things worse, and that page didnt help at all. Please help JobbersAreCool (talk) 01:57, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

http://www.cagematch.net/?id=2&nr=11618 and http://www.profightdb.com/wrestlers/colin-cassady-7756.html are the only sources i could find and use for the creation of the page. You welcome, and thanks for all the help! :) JobbersAreCool (talk) 6:31, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

DFtZ

FYI: I have added two more and an IP to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Don't Feed the Zords, and have also salted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ken Hoang (6th Nomination) (with a capital "N" in "nomination") as they twice used that to get past the salting of the small-n version. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:22, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Lancop

I see you started the AfD [2] on Lancope and the withdrew the nomination. I have found some copyright concerns with it and a related page submitted at WP:AFC. As you brought the AfD case I wondered if you had anything to contribute to the discussion Talk:Lancope, if not don't worry I just thought I would make you aware in case you did have something to say. --wintonian talk 21:23, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Dalia Danish

Bonjour Chris! & happy holidays! how can i help build this article about d. danish (the only real rigid neuroscientist left in egypt--who currently refuses to leave despite the situation) i know her on a prof level196.202.96.170 (talk) 2:58 pm, Today (UTC−5)

hello Chris! these are NOT articles written by Danish. they are interviews etc conducted by accredited (non tabloid) newspapers in Egypt (part of the herald tribune etc)196.202.96.170 (talk) 20:08, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Moon ring / 22° halo

I see that you started a merge request for the pages Moon ring and 22° halo earlier this year but did not get a lot of response. I wanted to let you know that I went ahead and merged them today since there was so little unique content on Moon ring. Hopefully this was what you had in mind. Cheers! Editor Review

I am currently cleaning up the backlog over at Editor Review and I found this in the backlog. As it is no longer posted on the main page at Editor Review, I was wondering if I should remove it from the backlogs and put it to rest or if I should repost it for community review. I will remove it from the backlogs three days from now if I am not given a response.—cyberpower OfflineHappy 2013 19:56, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Adoption

Hey. I was hoping you might be willing to "adopt" me. A Wiggin13 (talk) 01:17, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

I am still very interested in adoption. Please Adopt me! A Wiggin13 (talk) 01:56, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Adoptions

Hello Chris, i´m new to editing wikipedia and user pages and all those things, could you adopt me? Tuner420 (talk) 08: 51, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Gladly. You may want to add this template to your userpage to show that I've adopted you. CtP (tc) 20:02, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Done, thanks.... so what are we going to do now?
I see that you've started editing articles already, which is good. Do you know about Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:No original research, and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view? Those are the main foundations for articles. You may also want some help with wikicode and templates. CtP (tc) 02:05, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Okay thanks :) — Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned[[ comment added by Tuner420 (talkcontribs) 03:51, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Hey, i want to upload a non free image for fair use for the Dean guitars article, i have downloaded a .zip file from the official website that contains logos, do you think i can upload it? Tuner420 (talk) 06:18, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
So the image is of the logo? Seeing as though the purpose would be to identify the brand, combined with the fact that the logo isn't in the article already, I'd say go ahead and upload it. Be sure to include a fair use rationale explaining that the image meets Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. Just make sure that the image is low enough in resolution, and that you extract the images from the .zip beofre uploading to make sure they're in an image format. CtP (tc) 19:38, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Well the res is of 2195x1786, why should it be low resolution? The format is JPEG
JPEG is fine. Wikipedia is very strict with copyright in general and fair use content (purposely stricter than US law), so we're required to use smaller samples of copyrighted works if possible (for detail, see Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria, number 3b). In the context of images, this means reducing the resolution of the image to make it less likely to be used for copyright infringement. This is unfortunate, but a smaller size should be enough to display in the article. CtP (tc) 02:24, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
How do i lower the resolution of the picture if i dont have photoshop? Tuner420 (talk) 02:55, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

A Wiggin13 user-adoption

Hi Chris. A Wiggin13 suggested that he needs more than one adopter, and I've volunteered to be the second(!)

To avoid duplicating work, I therefore wanted to ask you, are you planning to do any structured lessons with him, e.g. in the form of lessons+tests as some people do? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:47, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Hey, what do you think about it? Dean Guitars Tuner420 (talk) 05:16, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:DeanGuitarsLOGO.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:DeanGuitarsLOGO.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:16, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Okay, replaced by SVG. Not a problem. CtP (tc) 15:33, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Autologic

Hi Chris, I decided to see whether Autologic had a wiki page - The Autologic I know ('cause I worked there for 14 years) is a company, bought by Agfa in 2002, that had been pioneers in the area of text processing, imagesetting, typesetting and even briefly CGI (they did about 20 minutes of the Titanic footage). Autologic had been part of the billion-dollar Volt group http://www.volt.com/ and for 20 years had been genuine innovators, having page description languages before PostScript, RIPs before PostScript RIPs and were the first manufacturer to enable whole pages including images to be committed to printing plate direct from computer front end. Why am I telling you this? You see, I think that all that, properly written up, correctly cited IS highly notable (and will soon be forgotten if not committed somewhere), whereas the Autologic up there at the moment is barely notable. You have added the "notability" tag to the existing page. What do you think I should do to get a rather more notable IMHO "Autologic" up there? Ray DartPlingsby (talk) 13:26, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

I am in no way criticising, and very clearly this article was not encyclopaedic; I have deleted it. You nominated it at AfD, but in reality it clearly qualified for {{speedy}} deletion, and nomination at CSD would have been better. No harm done.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:52, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

A request

Hi Chris, thanks for closing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Candace Dempsey. Would you be willing to courtesy-blank the page, per BLP and WP:CBLANK? The subject has been the subject of harassment in real life as a result of her work, and the account that was repeatedly posting negative material about her on that page was using some of the same phrases. SlimVirgin (talk) 01:48, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 03:31, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Traffic

Hi. I noticed your edit on Traffic (band). Coincidentally I'm trying to sort out a similar situation on Electric Light Orchestra. Perhaps you could offer your views on the talk page? Thanks. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 00:02, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Adopt me!

Hi! I'm a new Wikipedian looking for a mentor - I have lots of interests (including ecology, geography, education and food) and I'm looking to learn the ropes! I think I've come some way already, but if you're available for a bit of advice and banter that would be awesome. Thanks! Runner Five (talk) 16:03, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello Chris! I am brand new to being a part of this great site, but I'm a bit lost on finding articles that need editing, etc. I would also like to contribute in research and writing articles. My interests are Paleontology, anthropology, geography, occult studies, and mythology. I hope to hear from you soon. Lilah Crowley (talk) 08:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Random "Talk: you have new messages" messages?

After someone left me a real talk page message, I stopped getting the fake thing. Perhaps this message will resolve the problem for you as it did for me. Might help if you'd report at VPT what happens after you get this message, especially if the fakes continue. Nyttend (talk) 22:18, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
