Tranmere history

[edit]

Hey dude. Thanks very much for your helpful ideas during the Tranmere history peer review. I've tried to incorporate all your suggestions, and am considering trying for GA status. Would you mind casting your eye over it before I do? Thanks! U+003F? 16:32, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Tivertonpreedy.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Tivertonpreedy.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:07, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Main page appearance

[edit]

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on June 6, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/June 6, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! ۞ Tbhotch & (ↄ), Problems with my English? 04:47, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:OakPark2011.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

EPL Fixtures 10/11

[edit]

Alright, with the EPL fixtures for this coming season, are we allowed to post the first round or is it only allowed to be once the match is over? And if you're telling me not to post all of them, you mind going round to other teams pages for the season and undoing there's? It seems highly unfair if others are allowed and Villa aren't. Hi mate, I saw you were the nominator for the Gillingham F.C. featured topic, and I was hoping to get some advice regarding the creation of a Manchester United F.C. featured topic. As well as the club's main article, I'm currently hoping to include:

However, I've noticed that the Ipswich Town F.C. and York City F.C. featured topics also include lists of those clubs' Players of the Year. Given that Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year exists, do you think that should be included as well? There are a couple of others that I think could be included, but I'd like to get your opinion on the content of the topic. Assuming I can get all of the aforementioned articles to FA or GA status, do you think they would be sufficient for a featured topic? Thanks for your help. – PeeJay 16:07, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the input, mate. I think I may also add Munich air disaster, at User:The Rambling Man's suggestion. By the way, I don't know if you've seen Book:Manchester United F.C., but do you think perhaps there are too many articles on it? Are Wikipedia-Books supposed to reflect Topics or not? – PeeJay 21:31, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading free images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view your previous uploads). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Hello Chris. I was editing list of FA Amateur Cup winners (which I see you were the main contributor to) today and noticed that the 1908 winners links to Royal Engineers A.F.C.. However, the cup appears to have been won under the name Depot Battalion, RE F.C.. Are these the same clubs? The ever-reliable FCHD has them down as two separate clubs but the REAFC article states that "The Engineers' Depot Battalion won the FA Amateur Cup in 1908." Do you think the DEBREFC article should be merged into the main one? Cheers Number 57 14:04, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Chris. Sorry - I reverted your reversion without talking to you. But you could have talked to me! Don't you think that a summary would be helpful? I tried explaining it all once to a German and he said, at the end, "so really there is five linked bundesliga but the top one is now owned by the FA and the others by the FL and they all have pompous names rather than 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th?". I said, correct. In practical terms, nothing has changed since before the Premier League. And The Championship? What's that all about?! Try explaining that. It means the champions are not the champions, the premiership winners are. They are the ptremierons..are they? The other bits were just to clarify as well. Look at it from a foreigner's POV. Also, it annoys me when stats are given relating just to the foundation of the premier league. Why? I want to know that a goal scored was the quickest in the top flight ever, not in the last 20 years. What do you think? Herbolzheim (talk) 11:01, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are probably aware that the Gillingham F.C. is scheduled for Main Page coverage on Monday. Congratulations on achieving such a profile for the article: are there many Dubai billionaires reading the Main Page of Wiki, do you reckon? It would appear that Raul has, straightforwardly and reasonably enough, simply lifted the opening paragraph to be the MP blurb. I wonder if the rather recentist (but outdatedly so) third sentence is better removed, and whether you have a suitable photo. I wondered about either the 1884 team line up from the History article (and have blurb read "The club was founded in 1893 (1884 team pictured) and joined the Football League in 1920", or a cropped version of your pic of Hessy (to remove the Dover context), with a text of "...a club record highest league finish of eleventh place in 2002–03, under current manager Andy Hessenthaler (pictured)". M.I.A. Project

[edit]

I wanted to know how to go about setting up a wikiproject on M.I.A.'s singles articles. I've written some up, but some of the articles need looking at. Your involvement would be great given the work you've contributed on the album articles :) .....Lifebonzza (talk) 05:00, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Chris,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 02:35, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

M.I.A. discography

[edit]

I admit it, the Ultratop is a little bit bizarre. I will try to explain it to you. So, there is the Ultratop 50, who contains the 50 most popular songs ( 1 to 50), and, then, there is the Ultratip. This one is a kind of continuity to the Ultratop. It lists the 200 most popular songs (actually, from 200 to 101). Thus, if, for example, XXXO was charted seventh in the Ultratip, it means that it is the 107 most popular song in the country this week. That's why I corrected the belgium charts in the M.I.A. discography (it indicates that XXXO was 57 in Belgium (I still don't know why) and that Bad Girls was 81, while it's 181). As for the sources, here they are: for XXXO and for Bad Girls.

Have a good day, --Raphael99 (talk) 22:12, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's something really strange too, the 51-100 are not on any chart. So, if a song is charted between these numbers, we will never know it.--Raphael99 (talk) 17:12, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

QPR and the Amateur Cup

[edit]

Hi there,

I'm currently working List of Queens Park Rangers F.C. seasons through the FL process and it was mentioned that you might still have access to the FA Amateur Cup results book you used on the FL list of winners. I know where QPR was knocked out of the competition in 1895-96 through other sources, but I was wondering if you'd be able to check if they were in it in the other years between the start of the competition and 1899-1900 when the team turned professional. If not, don't worry about it - I was planning a trip to the British Library to check on the early year portion of the table anyway and thanks to your FL I know which book to put on reserve ahead of the visit. :) Regards, Miyagawa (talk) 16:57, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, thanks for checking. I know the year I found the results for they did get knocked out in the qualifying rounds, so its likely they were knocked out in similar rounds during this period. Miyagawa (talk) 18:14, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Premier League seasons

[edit]

Hello, noticed in the stats tally that you were the biggest contributer to List of Premier League seasons prior to my editing these last few days. Other then adding the odd reference, finishing off the 'Promotion and Relegation' para and putting top scorers to the lead, I think this is ready for a peer review. Hope you don't mind giving it a check through for prose and table functionality? Cheers – Lemonade51 (talk) 20:21, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Stocksbridge Park Steels F.C.

[edit]

Thanks for your help cleaning up the dead links at Stocksbridge Park Steels F.C.. I have now finished my cleanup, but there were three links which I could not fix. These are all marked. Thank you again for your efforts. Cloudz679 19:38, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Akihiro Hayashi

[edit]

Hi Chris,

Nice to meet you. Now I'm watching a J-League encounter, seeing Akihiro Hayashi as the custodian of S-Pulse goal. Since he's begun to play at fully pro level, it might be good to recreate his article as a player with potential. Best regards, Umi1903 (talk) 11:45, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page appearance (2)

[edit]

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the article List of FA Cup winners know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on May 7, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/May 7, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 21:24, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Frannie Collin - Golden Boot

[edit]

I was hesitant as well mate, but the CS Golden Boot is mentioned on Greg Pearson's page. I won't put it back up until confirmation.....

just wondering. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.172.6.204 (talk) 16:59, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ashleigh and Pudsey

[edit]

Hi, re the singular/plural issue for groups, my understanding (and I am British by the way) is that there is no hard and fast rule here, but that in general if the name of a band/sports team/dog trick act etc name ends with an "s", then it will use a plural verb; otherwise it will be treated as singular.

I accept that there is a greater tendency towards using the plural in British English, and the singular in American English. However the situation is in my view not as straigtforward as you suggested in your edit summary. I am happy to leave the above article as "are" however. Rangoon11 (talk) 16:38, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Separate but related point - do you think it would be worthwhile to try to do a "did you know?" for this article, in view of this being the first ever dog trick act to win the competition? Did you knows are not something I generally work/propose so I have no experience in that area on but the thought just crossed my mind.Rangoon11 (talk) 16:45, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:TommyBarnes.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:TommyBarnes.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
