Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Chetsford, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Rasmussen Reports

Please take a look at Rasmussen Reports. I think I made some improvements to major issues. Thoughts? Have to run now but wanted to put this on your radar because some of the content I removed seemed rather blatantly problematic to me...Marquardtika (talk) 15:36, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Marquardtika - I agree your edits were major improvements, though they were all quickly undone! It seems this has been in a rather abysmal state for awhile now. I'd suggest we just leave it alone and let the discussion ride for 30 days until some sort-of consensus is reached and then move from there. Each edit may require a discussion so this will probably take awhile to see improvement and I doubt it will ever be stable enough to be GA. Chetsford (talk) 05:18, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your thoughts. I'll see how discussion plays out. Cheers to the weekend, whatever that even means anymore! Marquardtika (talk) 18:15, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello Chetsford,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.

Iteris

Hi again, Chetsford! I hope you're doing well and staying safe. I really do try not to ask the same editors for help with article update requests, but in this case, I pinged you because of your previous help. I've tried to make the review process as easy as possible by outlining specific changes and providing updated markup in user space to make copying and pasting of the entire page possible (I remember you've requested this format before), but also understand if you're unable to review at this time. Do you have a moment to take a look, or shall I try reaching out to a relevant WikiProject? Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 17:03, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi Inkian Jason, that's no problem at all. I'll look right now. Chetsford (talk) 17:55, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help. Inkian Jason (talk) 14:17, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello again! I've posted a very straightforward request here to update the Lee Fixel article. Do you have a moment to review and update the page on my behalf? If not, I will try to find another editor at a related WikiProject to assist. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:41, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Hello yet again! I promise, I try to get help from others, but I was wondering if you'd be willing to revisit another article you've assisted with before. The Realtor.com article has not been updated much since early 2018, so I've posted a request here to bring the entry up to date. I've drafted a new entry here and this diff shows proposed changes to the current page. I've also outlined the changes, and I'm happy to provide any additional explanations as needed.

Would you be willing to review the proposed changes and update the article on my behalf? I don't think the changes are too drastic; I'm mostly just wanting to bring the page up to date. If not, I will try reaching out to a WikiProject to hopefully find an interested editor. Thanks again! Inkian Jason (talk) 20:07, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Chetsford. Since a couple weeks have passed, I thought I'd try here one more time before seeking WikiProject help. If you're uninterested, that's no problem. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 15:20, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
Inkian Jason - sorry, I've been only intermittently on the last couple weeks. Will review now. Chetsford (talk) 16:55, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Never a problem, and no need to apologize. I also know you like to let requests sit for a while to make sure no one else weighs in or disagrees with proposed changes, which I respect. Thanks, as always, for your assistance. Inkian Jason (talk) 16:57, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello, hope you're doing well! Since you helped here, I was wondering if you'd be willing to review my request here to update the Corporate overview section. Thanks for your consideration, Inkian Jason (talk) 20:27, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Polygon

I've never brought a source to Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard but I wanted to know if it was possible for two editors to do that together and if you would interested. We disagree on if Polygon is a reliable source so I thought putting it on the noticeboard with both views would be a good starting point in creating discussion. This is the only previous discussion on Polygon which references that Polygon is considered reliable at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources. But that didn't get it added to the RS list like other Vox Media properties (Vox, Recode, & The Verge). The noticeboard calls for article & content examples and I'm a little busy right now so ideally this is something we could work on later this month. Let me know what you think. Sariel Xilo (talk) 20:14, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Sure that'd be fine. Just to clarify, I think Polygon is perfectly RS for coverage of games, I just don't think it's RS for topics unrelated to games like crime reporting, medical news, economics trends and analysis, French elections, etc. Chetsford (talk) 15:19, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
This is where I fundamentally disagree. I think that media outlets that cover niche topics (to the extent we can call the multi-billion dollar gaming industry niche) can reliably report on people in the industry even when that reporting is on crimes or allegations of crimes by people in the industry. I would go a step further and say this kind of reporting in the wake of the MeToo movement is vital to the health of these niche communities because reporters are doing their jobs of holding industry accountable for the actions people in it take. For example, Kotaku has done some amazing coverage on this issue in video games 1 2. That kind of reporting could only be done by a niche outlet who had built up relationships of trust & a good reputation in their industry. So Polygon (which is held to same editorial standards as the other Vox Media properties & articles are cross-shared across these properties) is a reliable source on allegations of harassment in the gaming sphere. I would say this Polygon article is a RS on the pervasive nature of harassment in the industry and should be referenced wherever the specific cases are mentioned on Wikipedia. Sariel Xilo (talk) 23:22, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
"This is where I fundamentally disagree." Then there's no point in bringing something to RSN jointly. Chetsford (talk) 05:38, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Just Curious

Hello Chetsford, I was wondering, is it possible for an admin to grant page mover to an editor who really needs it without reaching the time threshold? Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 21:03, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Synoman Barris - anything's possible! I'd be happy to add that as a permission to anyone if they really needed it but didn't quite meet criteria 1, 2 or 4 of WP:PAGEMOVER guidelines. Failure to meet criteria 3 might be a little trickier. Chetsford (talk) 21:08, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Chetsford, I have moved many pages, mostly to draft space and sometimes fixing headers. It’s annoying to leave redirects which I have to tag for R2 deletion again Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 21:11, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Chetsford, Fastily tries but it would actually be easier with the flag Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 21:13, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Synoman Barris - you appear to meet all the criteria. Can you just log a request at WP:PERM/PM and I'll add that permission to your rights? Chetsford (talk) 21:16, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Chetsford, I have made the request. Thanks Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 21:22, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Chetsford, Thank you, I hope my tasks will now be more easier. Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 21:25, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Darth-X-President

Hi there. Just to inform you, on 28 June you unblocked Darth-X-President on the understanding that they never again performs a page move without discussion and agreement first. Unfortunately 2 days ago they moved the article Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe (diff) without discussing it with anyone, and it was subsequently moved back (diff) by another user due to the naming convention being incorrect. It seems like they've just ignored their previous block and gone back to not understanding page titles and refusing to engage in conversation. Canterbury Tail talk 12:28, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Canterbury Tail - thank you. I just asked the editor for clarification and will reimpose the indefinite block as soon as they've had a chance to weigh in. Chetsford (talk) 21:56, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Danish withdrawal from the European Union

On a Facebook page called "Danexit" there are thousands of Danes (including older Danes) who want to leave the European Union. This "group was created on July 14, 2019" on Facebook. Are these two sentences bad? Wname1 (talk) 04:18, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Tweaking of PP template

I noticed the wording in the template you added and wondered if the wording should be tweaked. IIRC, edit requests cannot be made for contentious content, IOW they are reserved for minor edits or content which clearly enjoys consensus support. Shouldn't that be added to the template? -- Valjean (talk) 15:13, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Valjean, sorry, I'm not entirely certain what you're asking? (Sorry I didn't get much sleep last night!) I believe the protection expires in a few hours, though (this was fulfillment of a request originally registered by another editor at Requests for Protection). Chetsford (talk) 16:45, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
I am not able to tweak the fully protected template, and I think it needs to be tweaked. This has nothing to do with the protection status at the article. I just used that diff for convenience. -- Valjean (talk) 16:48, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
Got it, sorry I misunderstood. The protection templates are template protected so can't be edited. Chetsford (talk) 16:52, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes, they are protected, which is why I approached you as an admin, who, I assume, can edit them. -- Valjean (talk) 16:57, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
