Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hello,
I've just checked, the citation I added was not archived, so it may have looked improperly sourced. I've created an archive link for the article which should now make the remaining sections visible. Thank you. Charmanderpants (talk) 22:20, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The material that you are adding is a WP:BLP violation. Particularly the framing of Jolly denying allegations. What allegations? Unless the allegations can be specified and sourced from a reliable source any content about them is WP:UNDUE. The second part of the stuff what you were adding (the election after party) wasn't even supported by the source. In that part you wrote that Jolly denied allegations. The source didn't state that Jonny denied any allegations. It also did not specify what any allegations were against him. If you want that material included please start a discussion at Talk:Stephen Jolly. If you don't obtain consensus you will be reverted per WP:BLPRESTORE and WP:ONUS. I will take this to the articles talk page. Charmanderpants (talk) 03:48, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Always a good idea to see what other editors think when it comes to a content dispute. TarnishedPathtalk 04:00, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've started a discussion at Wikipedia:BLP/N#Talk:Stephen Jolly asking for broader community input on whether the "serious allegations" should be covered in the article Stephen Jolly. TarnishedPathtalk 11:38, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
