About your userpage again

Hey!

I recently tried making the Wikicode to your userpage more readable by moving (almost) all the CSS to a different page. Here is my attempt (CSS)

Clearly something went very wrong with the background. I figured since you were brilliant enough to come up with all those gradients to make that pattern, you could probably also figure out what went wrong here QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 12:03, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also sorry for not asking if I could optimize your userpage first, but you also did kinda open source it by posting it under a CC BY-SA license, which I did comply with. QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 12:04, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@QuickQuokka Okay that's absolutely amazing, right now I'm on mobile but when I get back to my PC I'll take a look! (Speaking of this I really need to make it mobile-accessible too) ChaotıċEnby(t · c) 12:05, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Chaotic Enby: Are you home yet?
Sorry if I'm bugging you QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 15:44, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just back! It looks great, I think the only missing part is that the background doesn't repeat correctly, but that can easily be fixed! Can I try to? ChaotıċEnby(t · c) 21:18, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Chaotic Enby: Sorry for not replying, I've been a bit busy!
But yes, you can edit my sandbox(es) to edit the Wikicode and CSS. QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 08:10, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also a few more things I'm realizing could improve it:
  • On some systems, the Latin part of "Reem Kufi" is a separate font called "Josefin Sans" so that could be added as a fallback font
    • Fun fact, Reem Kufi was originally an Arabic (Kufic) font, with the Latin character set being added from Josefin Sans and both were merged into one font
  • The rickroll link doesn't have the brighter color and I'm wondering what went wrong (very likely a "!important" rule should do the job)
  • There's a wider space between "Chaotic" and "Enby", that's easily fixable too
ChaotıċEnby(t · c) 21:25, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chaotic Enby. I reached out a while back regarding the "Security incidents" section of the LastPass page. I disclosed a COI and said the sections was over-sized. You mentioned many of the sources are primary or mis-represented. I copy/pasted the entire section, then indicated suggested trims with strikeouts and offered explanations in highlights at: User:AmyMarchiando/draft.

You provided some feedback, but I think there was some confusion. I wasn't asking to delete the entire section - just the parts in strikeout. I wanted to check-in on if you would still consider reviewing. The section is still flooded with primary sources and no one else has responded. Appreciate it! The Userpage Barnstar!

The Userpage Barnstar
I tracked down this barnstorm just because your Userpage is that incredible! Seeing how you responded very well to recommendations about your Userpage and then crafted it into what it is today proves even more that you deserve this. WMrapids (talk) 18:35, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! I still have a few things to fix, including adding the CSS in a separate page, and more ideas for improvements to come! ChaotıċEnby(t · c) 21:01, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Why were you stalking me? 216.145.66.224 (talk) 03:42, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not stalking you, you just made a bunch of disruptive edits and I'm using Wikipedia:AntiVandal to patrol recent edits, so they showed up. ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 03:43, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know what pages I'm editing?216.145.66.224 (talk) 03:44, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
...because pages that are recently edited show up in the diff browser. Not just yours. All of them. ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 03:46, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well the fact that most of those women's mass media is transphobic as they prefer AFAB women for some reason. I'm just trying to raise awareness. 216.145.66.224 (talk) 03:48, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Without sources, by just making a random blanket statement in the opening sentence? ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 03:49, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
why did you delete my article while everything was right Endaxas (talk) 01:16, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did not delete any article, I tagged them for speedy deletion (because, as I explained before, no claim of significance), and then admins deleted them. (I am not an admin) Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 01:19, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
wait what can you give me a Tutorial im a starter and i dont get it Endaxas (talk) 02:43, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! To write an article on Wikipedia, you need the topic to be notable. In other words, you can't write about any random person. For this, you usually need coverage in several independent reliable sources mentioning the topic in detail (more than a passing mention in one paragraph). If you don't have these sources yet, but have reasons to believe they exist, a claim of notability can help indicating that the topic is likely notable. For instance, if someone won the Nobel Prize, this alone justifies having an article on them, as sources likely exist.
Significance is a lower bar than notability (see here for common claims of significance or importance), and is needed to avoid the article being speedy deleted. The idea being that, if the lower bar of significance can't be cleared, it is unlikely for the topic to meet the higher criterion of notability. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 03:09, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well i wrote the musical artist article again but this time better hopefully you can review it and see if theres any failures or mistakes Endaxas (talk) 04:25, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Still no reliable sources, which are explicitly needed for an article on a living person. I can move it to draftspace if you want, so you have time to work on it without risking it being deleted again. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 04:40, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
how do i put the reliable sources Endaxas (talk) 06:04, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i tried to find it everywhere and i dont get it so ur the only help where do i find it or get it Endaxas (talk) 06:04, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, some topics might just not have reliable sources, and thus not be notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia. Really sorry, but that's the criterion used here. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 06:09, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
wait so is it gonna be deleted? Endaxas (talk) 06:12, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i really wrote good informations Endaxas (talk) 06:13, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My page on Rosalie Martinez is completed. She is deceased, what sources do a deceased person need? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartfunnypeople (talkcontribs) 17:03, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the requirements for a deceased person are less than for a living person, but you'd ideally want at least two secondary sources that aren't connected to the person (interviews can be good for matter-of-fact claims, but they do not establish notability). Wikipedia can't be used as a source - if information in other articles is useful, it is better to look at the sources the articles themselves cite. Finally, you should whenever possible link the sources so they can be accessed by other people, or, if that's not possible, provide the journal/newspaper/etc. in which they were published, the title, the date, and any other information that can help. WP:BLP, we don't put out private details about someone's family if they aren't mentioned in a strong reliable source justifying putting the names out. ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 18:15, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly they are not private. They have been published. PenmanWarrior (talk) 18:17, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Someone claiming to be relatives with other people isn't enough to state it as fact, that whole section was relying on primary sources (her own book) and original research (often with citations not even talking about the connection). Furthermore, the main reason why you've been reverted to begin with was your attempt at removing an Article for Deletion template, which you are not allowed to do if the discussion hasn't closed. ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 18:21, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
According to what I read on Wikipedia anyone can remove the template. It doesn't stop the discussion from continuing. A citation of the Mormon Family History Library which does contain, document, and back up her family facts was provided. Just because you don't like the facts, doesn't mean you should be covering up their existence. Your claim of not providing family details as the reason for deletion doesn't add up as you did not remove living family members from her article. Only dead ones. Hmmmm PenmanWarrior (talk) 18:34, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't have anything to do with me "liking" or not this person which I didn't know before today, and everything to do with you removing AfD templates (which, no, you are not allowed to do) and adding material with no reliable sources. ANI

Hi - I'm Girth Summit. I don't think we've ever interacted before, aside from commenting once or twice on the same threads at ANI. I'm dropping by to share an observation with you - nothing more than that.

In mid-November of last year, I took a bit of a break from editing - I had a lot of urgent stuff going on IRL, and between one thing and another I ended up not logging in for about six weeks. When I got back, after clearing out my notifications (felt a lot like work, I can tell you), I took a look at ANI, and noticed that your username was everywhere. Maybe my memory is faulty, but I don't remember you being a 'regular' there before my break, but now you're all over the place, commenting on what seems like every thread. I know that it's not actually every thread - at present, there are 39 threads on the page, and Ctrl+F tells me that your username only appears 20 times - but that's still rather a lot. I haven't done an exhaustive search, but I think you are probably the most active non-admin participant there over the last couple of months. You might even be the most active participant overall, including admins.

So, that's my observation. Why am I telling you this? You're not breaching any policy, or even any behavioural expectation; there is nothing to say that you cannot do what you are doing. That being said, if you can stomach a little bit of patronising advice, then I'm not above offering it. I've seen newish accounts get too interested in the goings on at ANI before, and get drawn too far into the 'drama' side of the project before they're fully conversant with the rules, written and unwritten. I am not suggesting that you stop reading, or commenting, at ANI; if you are interested in my advice though, I would suggest that you keep half an eye on it while doing other (usually more productive) things, and only make a comment if you have something particularly insightful to say.

I was probably guilty of being a bit too interested myself in the goings on at ANI back in 2018ish, and would have been better advised to go write an article or two. I therefore hope you take this in the spirit in which it is intended - just some friendly advice from an 'middle-aged' hand (I can't claim to be an old hand at this quite yet...). Best wishes Girth Summit (blether) 00:00, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, I should probably cool down a bit from replying at ANI all the times. It's more about wanting to help editors but I agree that it's easy to get caught on the drama, and I acknowledged myself before that I've been spending a little too much time on it the last couple weeks. I'm not a very new editor, but I understand your advice and I'll try to at limit my participation there. ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 00:05, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Removed ANI and AN from my watchlist, this should help. I'll go back if I have something egregious to report (like persistent vandalism that's too complex for AIV or RFPP), but that should prevent me from looking at every thread. Thanks a lot for the reminder, it's absolutely good advice! ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 00:12, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, saying 'newish' was maybe wrong of me - everything's relative, I guess. I see a vast amount of positive work from you in the ITN mainpage space, I'm not meaning to suggest you're a newb, I guess I just mean you ANI participation went from basically zero to massive in a short space of time. Please don't feel you need to de-watchlist it on my account - I'm just suggesting that you spend a bit of time thinking about each situation in the round, and whether your comment is really going to add anything, before making it. Cheers Girth Summit (blether) 00:28, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I absolutely get it. Don't feel like you were the one who pressured me to de-watchlist it, that was already something I had in the back of my mind for my own mental health. ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 00:39, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting

May i please know the reason for reverting my edits on the page Perinthalmanna ? APM02 (talk) 02:17, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! There's a comment in the infobox saying <!-- Please do not add any Indic script in this infobox, per WP:INDICSCRIPT guideline. -->. It's because of WP:INDICSCRIPT, which itself was because of many edit conflicts about which scripts to use for which places or people, with some infoboxes ending up with many scripts at once. While I admit it's more straightfowards for South Indian cities, with the four main languages being pretty well distinguished, the whole thing has been the source of a lot of debates already, unfortunately... Talk page misbehaving

Hello, thanks for your work my talk gape, I'd appreciate it if you took a look at it to figure out what's really wrong with it cause the "archive 2" is looking kind of funky. And if you don't mind, and tips on how I could learn how to code? I'm interested and I know it's hard work but I'm willing to give it my all Thank you. dxneo (talk) 20:58, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just fixed it, there was a newline somewhere there shouldn't have been! To learn how to code, that's a pretty vast endeavor so I'm not too sure what to recommend, are you interested in webdesign or coding programs? Or something else? ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 21:35, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late reply! There are a lot of different languages depending on your goals, with some like C++ being "closer to the machine" and, while teaching more about the inner workings of the code, can be less intuitive for a beginner. Python is certainly the usual choice for people starting to learn, and has a wide variety of libraries depending on what you want to do with it. I've been meaning to compliment your userpage since the first time I saw you around Artsakh-related pages, and it seems like every time I take a look at it you've made it even better! I've really never seen anything quite like it on Wikipedia! Much respect for raising the bar of what a great userpage looks like.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 21:06, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot to you too for the compliments! I'm still planning to fix a few things, although they likely won't be too visible (finally moving the CSS code to a separate page, fixing bugs making parts unclickable, having a better mobile version). New page reviewer granted

Hi Chaotic Enby. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:31, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I wanted to let you know that I went ahead and took off the various tags from Giuseppe Frassinetti. (It's a brand-new page that a new editor made just this morning, and I don't want them to be scared off by immediately getting a bunch of different tags on their teeny stub.) I've given it at least one reference to get them started, and put it in some categories. Notability I think is fine; the guy in question has articles in several other languages, which I've connected appropriately.

Happy reviewing! — Moriwen (talk) 16:04, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot, sorry! I'll try to wait a little more to tag new articles, didn't want to scare them off but more to guide them about what the article needs but I realize how it can be scary, thanks! ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 16:42, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello, Chaotic Enby,

As a new page patroller, remember to give a content creator at least an hour after they have stopped editing a new article before tagging it for deletion or taking any drastic action on it. I haven't evaluated the tagging to see if it is appropriate, I'm just commenting about the timing of the tagging.

And congratulations for all of the barnstars! Liz Read! Talk! 23:53, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Didn't see they had been editing more recently, I thought it was one hour after the creation of the article itself. Sorry for that, I'll know it for next time!
The last two barnstars might or might not be due to people making inside jokes on the Wikipedia discord server :p Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 00:12, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Words

I don't know how much advice means coming from someone who has mostly done wiki-janitor work (99% of the edits in my /32 were me) - but I just wanted to say that most of the time when people start saying obviously wrong things, and it's in a place where you don't have to answer, and it's a statement that is riling you up - that it's better to just ignore it and maybe watch as it reaches it's boring conclusion from afar.
Be it a troll trying to rile you up, or someone trying to appeal a block by saying that others are wrong, if it's a situation that is definitely going to be solved by others anyways (as is this one) then it's good to recognize that fact and maybe take advantage of that freedom to do something you enjoy instead. – 2804:F14:809C:9001:DDFB:94F6:6529:2AC0 (talk) 11:36, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Nomination of Oniro OS for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Oniro OS, to which you have significantly contributed, is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or if it should be deleted.

The discussion will take place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oniro OS until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

To customise your preferences for automated AfD notifications for articles to which you've significantly contributed (or to opt-out entirely), please visit the configuration page. Delivered by SDZeroBot (talk) 01:02, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For context I didn't "significantly contribute" to that article, I removed a bunch of copyvio and the first revisions were revdel'd, making the bot think I was the first contributor to the article. Yayyy for chaos! Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 03:49, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For removing my Will Smith edit on Northern green anaconda

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

I wonder if green anacondas (or Will Smith, for that matter) happen to eat trouts... Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 00:26, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
