Defender
[edit]Hi Defender, I made the mistake in not noticing there was a Defender (yacht) article. Since the links were to the Defender article which is a disambiguation page, which ideally nothing should be linked to, I changed the link to something else which I thought would be helpful in someone creating a page about the boat. I should have noticed that the Defender (yacht) article existed and changed the link to that. Regards, -- Jeff3000 15:31, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
>> Thank you, Jeff! And thanks for making the fix. I'm not sure how it was linked to the disambiguated page in the first place - had to have been my screw-up. I appreciate your suggested readings - I'll go through them! Cbaer 16:36, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
External link on Pledge of Allegiance
[edit]Hi Chris! I must confess that when I looked at your external link I didn't notice that a large amount of the content of the book was available on the website. I just saw the table of contents of the book and thought it was basically an advertisement. My apologies. --Stormie 01:46, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

James Shaw West
[edit]A {{prod}} template has been added to the article James Shaw West, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Unspecified source for Image:Southampton_Island_1913.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Southampton_Island_1913.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:48, 23 December 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK (talk) 20:48, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, OsamaK. I added additional source information that should better establish it as a public domain image. Cbaer (talk) 21:10, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello. It's been fun working with you on this article! Regarding your entry: Comer fathered at least one child while in Hudson Bay with a Inuit woman named Ooktok, Laurent Pameolik (1911-?). He was adopted by Shoofly and the shaman Angutimarik. were you going to add the citation? Thanks. Cheers. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:53, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

- Hello again. Thanks for working on this article with me; awesome to see it on DYK! It was really nice to have someone else's perspective and your photos added a lot. I noticed that you've worked on other maritime articles and I'd be glad to edit with you again on some of those. No, I don't have a citations tool so I go back and forth with the wikitemplates, or just type out the four usuals: url/title/publisher/accessdate. If you come across a citations tool, would you let me know, as it sure would be helpful. Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 04:10, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Cbaer. I know you have some maritime resources, and wondered if you had access to photos of the vessels discussed in the Howgate article that could be added there? I self-nomed Henry W. Howgate for DYK? so the admin folks should be looking at the article by 4/20/2008 for possible inclusion on the Main Page. Thanks, and Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 19:27, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Rosiestep - Great article - quite a story! I spent some time digging around for any graphics of the Florence, the Gulnare, and the Proteus, without much luck. There is this: [1] - which might be P.D. but for some reason it's not coming up for me. Maybe their website is down. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more. Keep up the great work! Nobska
[edit]Thanks! I know Wikipedians can be very picky, so I worked on it for some time before posting it and tried to find solid sources (NESF.... more of a primary source, too close to the Nobska). When I was a little kid, I recall coming into Nantucket on the Naushon when the Nobska was being towed out with a tug -- it is possible this is a manufactured memory, but I think it is right (given my age). I would love it if there were some photos, but, as far as I could tell the copyrights on the ones I saw online are not clear. Hopefully starting the page will allow someone who took photos to post them.--Wmjames (talk) 06:23, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
PS: "Ran out of steam"! Awesome comment!--Wmjames (talk) 13:59, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
PPS: Hey, have you had time to look for any photos of the Nobska that you have and have the copyright for? I have some photos on my computer, but they are all from the Internet and the copyright isn't at all clear for most of them, which is too bad. She was such a beautiful ship! (Imho.) If you had one nice one, if you could scan it and post it to the page, it would really be a huge contribution since people are so visually-inclined. One good photo would really complete the article. Alas, the Nobska....--Wmjames (talk) 15:48, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

"People from"
[edit]Greetings, Cbaer. I've always been "taught" those categories are only for birthplace. For instance, John Kerry is under Category:People from Aurora, Colorado, even though he's been a resident of Boston for most of his life. However, it seems other people will include "from" categories for longtime residents as well. For example, George W. Bush is under Category:People from New Haven, Connecticut and Category:People from Midland, Texas. So I guess it's up to you, and if you disagree with something I do, feel free to revert and/or bring it to my attention. What I do know is that, wherever a specific birthplace is known, we should make an effort to categorize by city/county. For instance, with this edit, you may disagree with my removal of several of the categories, but Category:People from Connecticut and Category:People from Massachusetts certainly do not belong there, as we have more specific sub-categories. - Biruitorul Talk 15:48, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Hsl-Edgartown Airfield.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Hsl-Edgartown Airfield.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Gretchen Baer has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
This person is not notable.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
