Full Funnel Marketing moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Full Funnel Marketing. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it is promotional and reads like an advertisement and it reads more like an essay and has several WP:POV issues. Please see WP:WTW, WP:ENCYCLOPEDIC. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 13:38, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @DoubleGrazing! I would like to ask whether presenting the concept of a marketing funnel from a digital perspective (digital marketing funnel) would be acceptable for inclusion. This confirmation is important before I proceed with further revisions and development of the content. CatherineGason (talk) 09:13, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
Without seeing in detail what you have in mind, it's difficult to comment, except to say in general terms that a new subject like that needs to be distinct enough to warrant a separate, standalone article, and/or there must be so much relevant and meaningful content that adding it to an existing article would make that article too long and unwieldy. Digital marketing tools are of course different from traditional analogue ones in that they allow for much better tracking, analysis, ROI calculations, automation, and much more besides... but fundamentally the concept of a funnel is essentially still the same. I could quite easily see a section on digital being included in the existing purchase funnel article, where it would exist in the broader context of the funnel, but I'm not sure I can necessarily envisage a new standalone article on this sub-topic specifically. But perhaps I'm wrong – happens all the time!
Be that as it may, I would also draw your attention to my additional concerns about this draft.

Hello @DoubleGrazing,
The current information online is incomplete and somewhat misleading regarding the funnel concept. The discussion conflates the purchase funnel with the marketing funnel, which are distinct concepts. The marketing funnel, as highlighted in our draft, extends beyond the purchase stage to include post-sales stages, creating a continuous generation loop. Therefore, referring to it as a purchase funnel for our article is inaccurate; the correct term is "marketing funnel."
If the term "full funnel marketing" is not satisfactory, we can emphasize its relevance in the digital domain, as the marketing funnel fully materializes in digital businesses. However, it is disappointing that the differences between the purchase funnel and the marketing funnel were not recognized. Marketing and sales are separate departments with distinct functions, and what applies to one does not necessarily apply to the other. Consequently, we need a thorough evaluation of these differences before proceeding, as it is not appropriate to include marketing information under the purchase funnel category.
Looking forward to receiving your reply.
Kind regards,
Catherine CatherineGason (talk) 13:16, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's not for me to decide whether or not two separate articles should exist, or what (if any) was the process that led to 'marketing funnel' being redirected to purchase funnel. I was just following the logic described in my decline notice, which made declining pretty much inevitable, for now at least.
You're welcome to start a discussion on the purchase funnel article's talk page about splitting it into sales vs. marketing versions, and see what the community thinks; that's ultimately how things are decided here. That talk page doesn't seem very busy, though, the last human edit was back in 2020 (!), but you could perhaps flag up the discussion on some WikiProjects, eg. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Marketing & Advertising and/or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Business, to try to encourage participation.
FWIW, calling the draft 'marketing funnel', rather than 'full funnel marketing', would certainly seem to offer the advantage of getting around the latter term not being nearly as widely used as the former, which would go some way towards addressing my other concerns with this draft. If the existing 'purchase funnel' article was then also renamed 'sales funnel' (subject to community consensus, of course), that would create clear definition and contrast between the two. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:48, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @DoubleGrazing for your feedback.
Yes, as stressed in the draft, the Sales Funnel or Purchase Funnel (viewed from the seller's and buyer's perspectives respectively) represents just one facet of the marketing funnel, which is why the broader marketing funnel, extending beyond the purchase stage, merits its own dedicated page.
Furthermore, there's no need to alter the name: Sales Funnel or Purchase Funnel refer to the same concept — sales from the seller's perspective and purchases from the buyer's perspective.
Please confirm if everything is now clear, and the page can be published.
Kind regards,
Catherine CatherineGason (talk) 20:43, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, nothing is any clearer than it was, I'm afraid. I'm still saying that this draft duplicates, or at least overlaps with, the topic of an existing article. If you want to get the overlapping content from that article removed or spun off into a separate article, you need to initiate a WP:SPLIT discussion on the article talk page.
Furthermore, my other concerns are still valid, and I could just as well have declined this for an apparent attempt at promoting your own marketing services, and for containing significant original research, neither of which is not allowed on Wikipedia. My suggestion therefore would be that you remove references to your own website, delete all the content which is not supported by independent and reliable sources, and rewrite the remaining content by summarising what such sources have said about the topic (of marketing funnel, rather than 'full funnel marketing').

Hi,
I am requesting a re-review of my draft article on the Marketing Funnel. I have carefully considered the feedback provided in the decline notice and have made several revisions to address the concerns raised, including removing the link to GasOn, changing the title and URL, and initiating an open discussion on the purchase funnel talk page., CatherineGason (talk) 18:25, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, you get another review when you resubmit the draft (click on the blue 'resubmit') button. I won't review it again myself, that way you get the benefit of a second opinion and a fresh pair of eyes. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:05, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your assistance with our first article. Your guidance has been greatly appreciated.

I've successfully integrated the content from this draft article into the existing "Purchase Funnel" article. This includes sections on the origins of the marketing funnel, key differences between marketing and sales funnels, examples, and emerging trends. Thanks for your help!
