Question from Sayuuuto (15:56, 1 August 2024)

Hello, First, thank you for your time. I’m very new and interested in contributing to wikipedia. But there is something I don’t understand. My edits are systematically reverted, I think there are some pages who are “owned” by certain editors who systematically revert anything that goes against their POV. A recent edit of mine has been reverted and when I wanted to push it to the talk page he said that it was WP:OR even when I provided reliable secondary sources and even official sources from official diplomatic websites. And while discussing the subject in the talk page he went ahead and gave me several warnings in my talk page in one go? And even accused me of edit wars when all I’ve done was one edit? I can’t wrap my head around it and it discourages me from contributing anymore.

I want to have another editor’s opinion on this matter as I feel terribly frustrated. --Sayuuuto (talk) 15:56, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Sayuuuto, Good day and thank you for the questions above. I have reverted your edits on Algeria–Morocco relations page and removed one of the source (this one) as it is not independent nor reliable since it is a source from government website. Pls note that there is no used to remove the warnings as all edits in Wikipedia is stored and always be viewed in the history log page. I also crossed out the warnings as they were in inappropriately warned since you have only one edit and took the matter to the talk page which was the right procedure to do. Pls check User talk:M.Bitton talk page as I will address the issue with the editor involved who gave you the warnings. Pls note you need to ping the editor involved in all talk page which you didnt do on Talk:Algeria–Morocco relations page so the editor involved didnt know you wanted to talk to them to discuss the issue. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 02:12, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
New editors don't usually cast aspersions; and if they do and double down on them, it usually means that there is more to their personal attacks than meets the eye. Since they are also canvassing (after edit warring over the WP:OR that they injected using an IP) and you restored their edit (without addressing the OR issue), I will cut straight to the chase and notify an admin.
@Rosguill: your thoughts on this issue will be highly appreciated. Thanks. M.Bitton (talk) 09:12, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I will also notify other admins (for good measure). @Doug Weller and Drmies: your thoughts on this issue will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Please note that the OP made it clear that these IPs (1 and 2) are theirs. Here's the discussion in which they kept casting aspersions (for some unknown reason, the AGF warnings that I left on their talk page were struck through by Sayuuuto Cassiopeia). M.Bitton (talk) 09:56, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I don't know why you keep accusing me of things like this.
I don't know what you mean by me casting aspersions? What I did was to ask for a third opinion which you took personally. I apologize if you understood something else.
I also don't know what you mean by me canvassing? Is the fact of talking in the TALK page prohibited? Please clarify your points because I feel quite frustrated by your accusations.
Me using the ips was because I didn't have any account then. and then forgetting to log in from my phone. But of course you're using that to accuse me of something again which is you not assuming good faith in me. I have nothing to hide so yeah those ips belong (belonged?) to me.
And the AGF warnings were not struck through by me, which is just another one of your accusations to me. And they should be struck through, because they are inappropriate, I didn't engage in an edit war as I didn't do any edits on the pages after initiating the talk on each page. and I did assume good faith, it's just that you took the fact that I wanted a third opinion personally.
Can you please stop discussing me and start discussing the actual talk which is the edit that I wanted to add? it's 100% not WP:OR. and for that I want another person's opinion. your systematic reverts on this topic is against the Wikipedia:Revert only when necessary as the edit does not diminish the quality of the page Sayuuuto (talk) 11:09, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
The discussion and the uncalled for personal attacks:
you are clearly biased @ 10:55 (strangely, this is their first reply to my question)
based on your history of systematic deleting of anything morocco related @11:16 (second comment)
You are clearly being biased @11:29 (third comment)
I'll await the admins' input (who are also busy in real life). M.Bitton (talk) 11:17, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
You put a warning on my talk page User talk:Sayuuuto on 10:45, 1 August 2024 (UTC) about an alleged Edit War which did never occur. That's abusing your power on me and not having good faith which you continue to express.
@Sayuuuto They seem to be redacted. In any case the aspersions are clear and you risk being blocked if repeated. Doug Weller talk 13:44, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I generally agree with M.Bitton's perspectives here. There actually was pretty clear editwarring at the page in question, as before Sayuuuto's first edit they appear to have edited the page as an IP--even if given the benefit of the doubt about whether they're the same person, it's still edit-warring to reinstate someone else's edit.
This also isn't the first time that someone has appeared out of the blue to make detailed accusations against M.Bitton regarding their supposed biases after exactly one (1) disagreement. There's this rather similar accusation from a few months ago, from someone eventually CU-blocked as part of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/VICTOHH1, and I remember other incidents as well whose diffs I haven't had time to track down. I'm disinclined to continue assume good faith here, although Sayuuuto is welcome to prove me wrong by engaging in constructive editing signed, Rosguill talk 14:15, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I did never edit war and this accusation is frustrating to me because I really put in mind to not do it as it’s useless.
It is important to see all the timeline because he clearly puts light into some parts and not others.
it all started when France recognised moroccan autonomy plan over western sahara, you can find a reliable secondary source here : https://www.reuters.com/world/france-recognise-moroccan-autonomy-plan-western-sahara-only-basis-lasting-2024-07-30/
As a moroccan myself, and not being a user in wikipedia, I was interested into updating this new information into Political status of Western Sahara. I was and am aware of the neutrality of Wikipedia so I put the information in the most neutral way. and I did it ONCE.
He reverted it. Saying that it's just some cherry picked sentence.
I started a topic in the talk page "France recognizes Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara", always acting as 194.154.197.119, you can see the talk page here Talk:Political status of Western Sahara.
He said that a source from a third party can not be accepted, I wasn't accustomed to reliable source rules so I just believed him. I later discovered that it was false and it was just a false excuse.
After research, I discovered that in fact the primary sources are considered weaker than secondary sources. And even with that I couldn't edit again that page, I edited that page only once the very first time and went from then on to the talk page.
Other people tried to edit that page since that day, because that news was buzzing on all moroccan media outlets and social media and was a BIG change for morocco. So for the same motivation as me, some other people tried to edit that page, M.Bitton of course tackled them all.
After reading a little more of how Wikipedia worked, I was interested in being active here, so then I created this account.
After a day another news popped up, Algeria recalled its ambassador to France due to france's previous annoucement. --> https://www.reuters.com/world/algeria-withdraw-its-ambassador-france-foreign-ministry-says-2024-07-30/
So I tried to add this news into Algeria–Morocco relations which was again automatically tackled by M.Bitton. Knowing now that my secondary sources are reliable enough, he still refused to let me add it, saying it was Original Research????
the fact that there was some other accusations on the same person does not concern me. I didn’t accuse him after exactly (1) disagreement like you put it but I did after investigating his history and finding out about the fact that he tends to not be neutral when it concerns morocco, it’s something that should be obvious after looking into his history.
He tricked me into this giving his experience in wikipedia, he knows the rules of the game better than I do, so he knows how to use different tactics to keep what he wants to keep in those pages.
I was motivated at first to edit other pages, not always related to morocco, but this whole experience does not encourage me into doing any more editing as it’s useless, some people just own some pages and will tackle everyone who dares add something to it. I read that people should Wikipedia:Revert only when necessary but that's completely false, people will not give a damn about your inexperience and will just straight up abuse reverting. Sayuuuto (talk) 15:06, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
You interpretation of the events is as fascinating as your cherry picking of to what address and persistent denial of the personal attacks. M.Bitton (talk) 15:13, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I don't know what plus-value your last comment has if not for just provoking me yet again. Then if I say something you will flag it as personal attacks yet again. Sayuuuto (talk) 15:16, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Sayuuuto, reinstatement of your edit at Algeria–Morocco relations in Special:Diff/1237958753 was edit warring. If you would like to argue in favor of the edits you were making, I would recommend opening a discussion at the relevant noticeboard for uninvolved editors to evaluate. signed, Rosguill talk 15:48, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Rosguill Thank you for your reply, but I am not interested in editing wikipedia anymore as it is useless to lose more energy on this. Given the history of the other editor, I m not likely to win an argument against him even if I'm right. Sayuuuto (talk) 15:52, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Sayuuuto, I don't have a problem with most of the edit, but the last sentence, "This incident highlighted...", that cannot be sourced to primary sources. It's either editorial commentary or original research, or both. Drmies (talk) 14:18, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

@Doug Weller, Rosguill, and Drmies: your input is much appreciated. With regard the content, I just want to highlight that the first sentence that they used (in order to justify the inclusion of the rest) is actually baseless WP:OR. The incident sparked tension between Algeria and France (not Morocco as Algeria has no diplomatic relations with it and tensions between the two existed for decades) and the whole thing is covered in a simple sentence in the Algeria-France relations article (I did try to explain this to them). M.Bitton (talk) 14:25, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
@Doug Weller, Rosguill, and Drmies
I don't have a problem deleting the last sentence if that can't be sourced to primary sources.
The fact that Morocco and Algeria do not having diplomatic relations anymore doesn't mean that no more tensions can be sparked between the two. Western Sahara subject was among (if not THE) the main reasons why they have such tensions, the fact that France changed (even slightly) its position on the matter sparkled even more tensions between the two countries. It is clearly relevant to the page. Sayuuuto (talk) 15:12, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I have have a problem with the baseless and nonsensical WP:OR that you used to justify the inclusion of the content. this is my last comment here. M.Bitton (talk) 15:18, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I understood that you have a problem with that. That's why we need someone else's opinion on the matter. (this is not a personal attack) Sayuuuto (talk) 15:21, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I also understood the reasons behind your personal attacks (fool me once ...). M.Bitton (talk) 15:23, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Sayuuuto, To ask opinions of other editors is NOT a personal attack. And from the info above, I believe you have been editing from an IP address(es) or under other user names for a new editor who only edit less than 5 edits on mainspace would know so much of Wikipedia's guidelines. My stand is that I dont that the info at hand that you are a sock but maybe admin/ User Bitton do. There are several admins involved in this message threats, and I believe they have some info that I dont and I suggest you to listen to them. @User:M.Bitton, open Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents would be a good idea to sought the issues out and open WP:SPI investigation for SOCK. Apologies for the message in your talk page. Cassiopeia talk 23:56, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I appreciate your apology. M.Bitton (talk) 00:03, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Jjayanarayan on User:Jjayanarayan/sandbox (14:01, 2 August 2024)

Hello, How do I move this article to Wikipedia? --Jjayanarayan (talk) 14:01, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Jjayanarayan, Good day. You draft article on your sandbox is not ready to be in the Wikipedia main space as the article fails to meet the WP:GNG guidelines. To meet the guidelines, the subject (Mental Health Centre, Thiruvananthapuram) needs to be have significant coverage from independent, reliable sources such as from the newspapers and the books whereby the subject is talked about in length and in depth and not passing mentioned. All social media sources, subject website, government or org, and education sites are considered either not independent and/or not reliable and can not be used to contribute to criteria needed. Pls read WP:Your first article to understand the requirements further. Thank you and best. Cassiopeia talk 00:30, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Nathanshand94 (17:10, 8 August 2024)

Hello

How are you? how do I upload a photo to use ? --Nathanshand94 (talk) 17:10, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Nathanshand94 Good day and thank you for the questions. Photo or images can ONLY be uploaded if you are the WP:copyright holder which means you are the one who took the photo. If not that you will be violate the copyright guidelines and pls note that Wikipedia take copyright violation very seriously as it entail legal issues. If you want to upload a photo, then pls read the Wikipedia:Uploading images and Wikipedia:Image use policy guidelines and instructions. Once you have done so, then yo can upload the photo on HERE at Wikipedia Common (follow the instructions) . Once you have successfully uploaded the photo then click "use this file" with a "W" icon next to it and copy the "thumnail" link and past it to the intended article at Wikipedia. I understand you are a model (as indicated in your user page), if you want to upload a photo of yourself and it is taken by your photographer, then your photographer (NOT you) need to upload the photo themselves and has to release his copyright holder right for EVERYONE to use the photo.
I saw you sandbox and I believe you want to you want to write about youself. Pls note that any subject (in this case is you) needs to pass the WP:GNG guidelines. (pls note that Wikipedia is an enclyopedia and not a social media platform). To have a mainspace in Wikipedia, the subject needs to have significant coverage from independent, reliable sources, such as form the MAJOR newspapers and books, whereby the sources talk about the subject in length and in-depth and not merely passing mention for verification. Pls note that all social medias (including Utube, X, blogs) , subject webpage, any sources that is associated, related, affiliated with the subjects are considered not independent or reliable which they can NOT be used to contribute to the GNG (notability) guidelines requested by Wikipedia. I am a little surprised how you found out about me as I am not a editor in MediaWiki (I wish I am one and currently learning about basic computer topic since I want to have a career change). Reverted edits

Why revert the edit I made of List of current UFC fighters? Loosa uses the Congo flag which sherdog also shows. Haqparast uses Morocco also shown on Sherdog. For Azaitar Morocco and Van USA because it’s what they currently use and where they currently live. Fighters like Chimaev have the UAE flag shown while sherdog shows Sweden, for Topuria it shows Georgia while sherdog says Spain and for Tsarukyan we use Armenia while sherdog says Russia, but you let those ones stay? Creatorial (talk) 02:09, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Creatorial as stated in the edit summary. It is not about where the subject lives, but as per the notes/key section defines it. Changes can be made based on the key/notes section. Cassiopeia talk 03:17, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
@Cassiopeia I just gave you the examples of Chimaev having the UAE flag shown while sherdog shows Sweden, for Topuria it shows Georgia while sherdog says Spain, for Tsarukyan we use Armenia while sherdog says Russia and there’s a few others. So it seems like the page doesn’t fully follow the keys/notes section. Creatorial (talk) 03:21, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Creatorial As per the key/notes section of List of current UFC fighters on number 7. The flags listed in these tables are in accordance with the Sherdog's website and may not fully or accurately represent the full citizenship of the peoples listed. So flag is based on fighter's Sherdog page. So go ahead and change the flag as per #7. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 03:53, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Aliy Dawut on Persecution of Germans in Yugoslavia (04:31, 13 August 2024)

How do I add a page category? Can you help with my article I created today about persecution of German civilians in Yugoslavia? Thank you --Aliy Dawut (talk) 04:31, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Aliy Dawut Good day. I have moved your page to draft space - see Draft:Persecution of Germans in Yugoslavia. as there are some issues to be fixed. Once it is done then submit for review. The pdf source is considered not reliable as it is from a foundation site for such I have removed it. You need to high light the article name in the lead section - see First sentence section of Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. You also need to add ref in the bottom of the page. Pls see the example of adding ref and category from the page Persecution of Chinese people in Nazi Germany (read in edit mode) and remove what is not applicable in your draft page. Cassiopeia talk 22:31, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your help - but question -Shouldn’t the background section on the persecution of Germans in Yugoslavia article cover the German invasion and subsequent Nazi-Croat atrocities and occupation of Yugoslavia? And the section that you moved in there now shouldn’t that be just above or under the infobox? Aliy Dawut (talk) 18:58, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Aliy Dawut Hi, I moved your message to here (same message thread). Infobox is always on the top, then the lead section (intro), then the rest of the body content with sub sections. On the lead section, we summary the article there and where the info of the lead should be in the body text in details. We dont put inline citation in the lead but in the body text. Since you have a lot of section still to be written, wait until you have section written and do a summary in the lead section. Lead section consists of one of two or max 3 paragraph unless the we have a lot important material on the body text to be summarized in the lead. Let me know if you have further questions. Question from Aliy Dawut (23:54, 15 August 2024)

On the mobile web version of Wikipedia, is there a way to input / re use citations via the visual editor function within an infobox like you can normally on the article? This would be of great help going forward, thank you --Aliy Dawut (talk) 23:54, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Aliy Dawut Good day. You can reuse source that already in the article via mobile or via laptop/desktop. First you need to "name" the source, by adding "name=" after ref and assign a name to the source nested in double quotations. When the source is used again in another section of the body text all you have to do is copy the name of the source and add a backward slash. See below for example in edit mode below.

  1. Inline citation - [1]
  2. Name the source - [2]
  3. Reuse the source (2) above - [2]

You can use the horizontal format Template:Cite web, Template:Cite book for inline citation for source from web and book respectively. If you are going to be a regular editor in Wikipedia, then I suggest you to use Wikipedia:VisualEditor for inline citation for it will save you a lot of time especially when the sources are from the web. For web source, all you need to do is to copy the URL and paste it on the Visual Editor (VE) field and it will fill all the necessary info for the inline citation for you. (note:sometime VE might not able to capture the author name and you need to add them in yourslef manually). VE also has the option for auto or manually add the source (inline citataion in the article in regarless the source is from web, book, journal and etc. However, I dont think you can use VE via mobile edit. You can enable VE by clicking "Enable VisualEditor" on the top of Wikipedia:VisualEditor page. Let me know if you have any more questions as I am here to help. Stay safe and best.
