Our policy on external links is to keep them to a minimum; we're not a link resource. Wikipedia:External links is a good place to start for our policies and guidelines on the issue. Essentially, if something is important to the article, then it should usually be included, citing sources; if it's not important enough for the article, then the link is also unneeded. There are exceptions, but it's not clear to me why Belly dance is one of those.

With regard to the tenor of your message, I suggest that you read Wikipedia:Civility, and calm down a little. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:04, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. It's not a matter of relevance; we're not a link-resource. We don't offer collections of links, no matter how useful — we're an encyclopædia. There are already five external links in this article, aside from those in references. (In addition, you presented the link in very PoV language.) Why not leave a brief comment at Talk:Belly dance suggesting that one of the existing links be replaced by your preferred link, and explaining why?
  2. Telling other editors that they shouldn't edit an article because they don't know enough about the subject is unacceptable, especially when the edits are unconnected to the content, but concern Wikipedia practice, guidelines, or policy. Not also that claims about your own experience and knowledge carry little weight.
  3. With regard to the claim about Islam, a citation is needed before that can be made --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:57, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can see that Mel is being unreasonable in removing the external links in the article. I also think that this is not going to get resolved in an informal mediation process, as Mel does not seem to want to listen. I have absolutely no authority over this, so since this continues to be a problem, I recommend you open a case with the Mediation Committee. I'm sorry I couldn't have been of more help. Good luck! It looks like your request at WP:3O got removed because "it's already gone to mediation"... Just an FYI in case you didn't notice. Looks like you might have to skip that step and go straight to WP:RFM. Amalas =^_^= 18:47, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you uploaded Image:Egypt_1_030.jpg, you did not specify complete source and copyright information. Another user subsequently tagged it with {{GFDL-presumed}} and for some time, it has existed on Wikipedia under the assumption that you created the image, and that, just as with all of your text contributions, you agreed to license it under the GFDL. This assumption, however well-meaning, is not legally sufficient and the tag is being phased out. Images using it are being deleted.

This image has been tagged for deletion and will be deleted in one week if adequate copyright information is not provided.

If you, personally, are the author of this content, meaning that you took the photograph yourself or you created the chart yourself (and it does not use any clipart that you did not create), please retag the image with a free image copyright tag that correctly describes your licensing intentions, usually {{GFDL-self}} or {{PD-self}}. Please also make sure if you have not already done so that you write a good description of what the image depicts, when you took the photo, and other important details. This will allow Wikipedia to continue using the image.

If you did not create the image or if it is derived from the copyrighted works of others, please keep in mind that most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not suitable for use on Wikipedia. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others and does not use images unless we know that they have been freely licensed. Any creative work is automatically copyrighted, even if it lacks a copyright notice. Unless the copyright holder has specifically disclaimed their rights to the image and released it under the GFDL or another compatible license, we cannot use it. If you did not create the image, simply do nothing and it will be deleted in a week.

Please feel free to contact me on my talk page if I can be of assistance or leave a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions with any questions you may have. Thank you. MER-C 09:40, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
