Short paging disambiguation pages

[edit]

Explain to me please why that even needs to be done... Sadly many disambiguation pages will be shorter than you want, they're disambiguation pages not articles. Why don't you set something up so that the short article list avoids pages that (are properly) marked as not being articles instead? You don't short page redirects, do you?  æronphonehome  03:52, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've just taken a look at the category that you are adding DAB pages to and it says this: "as they meet a minimum level of quality, but that still could benefit from attention and fleshing out." Disambiguation pages, as I said above, are not articles and therefore do not need to be "fleshed out". You yourself shortened the pages further at the same time you added the longcomment template to them. I'm removing your changes, and I'll watch that category for other DABs. If you have a problem with this you can start an edit war or come up with something more convincing that makes what you're saying valid.  æronphonehome  04:00, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Myself! Are all 8,000 pages in that category DABs???  æronphonehome  04:08, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Further proof that editing Wikipedia turns people into a powder keg. I have been editing DABs for a year now, the two articles you marked as short is the first time I've even seen that template, and you are the first to proclaim the inevitability what you do. Veiled threats from one established user to another aside, what is your response to the information I've shown you that makes it look as if short paging a DAB is going to far? When you can respond to THAT we can go somewhere.  æronphonehome  05:43, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Since you've been silent for two days I'll assume that the issue is resolved between us. I agree that DABs do not belong on the Short Pages list, but equally do not belong on your watch list or need a template reserved for articles. A bug for this problem already exists on Bugzilla so at Mannings suggestion I bumped it and commented on the nature of the bug. Hopefully you won't continue applying that template and allow time for a MediaWiki update, because once it takes place however many DABs are on your page will have to be manually removed whereas all DABs on the Short Pages list will simply disappear.  æronphonehome  04:44, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Public reactions to death of Rachel Corrie at DRV

[edit]

Why do you close the DRV discussion for Public reactions to death of Rachel Corrie here so quickly? I'm also concerned about the very short AFD discussion and wanted to follow up on the closing at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 May 27. Would it be ok for me to start a new discussion? -- Ricky28618 (talk) 22:19, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that certainly discourages frank and open discussion. Should I ask the users who had similar concerns in the past to do it instead? -- Ricky28618 (talk) 23:05, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that it's so controversial is why I'm switching to this sock temporarily. It's all in accordance with policy. -- Ricky28618 (talk) 23:11, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Ridge, Robertson County, Texas

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Ridge, Robertson County, Texas, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Unnotable unincorporated community.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 15:43, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Ridge, Robertson County, Texas, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ridge, Robertson County, Texas. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Template:Surnames by language

[edit]

Excellent idea on adding exclusion parameter! I've made it optional, and reworded a bit to allow more extensive exclusions. See Category:English-language surnames for the most (so far). Thanks for making the effort to update all of the existing categories. I've added documentation, so hopefully folks will take the time to follow the examples in the future.
--William Allen Simpson (talk) 06:56, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your wording is better than mine, good job! Templates are way under-used around here, but that's a long story. :-) Carlossuarez46 (talk) 07:03, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'm sure we'll need to watch it like a hawk.... Yeah, templates are starting to resemble fixed categories and lists, instead of their original purpose. And few categories have good descriptions.

Highspeed

[edit]

I've seen the vandalism that Highspeed did to your talk page, but where are the personal attacks? An IP claiming to be Highspeed has posted at my talk page, asking for a review or at least the ability to post an unblock template on the talk page. As well as explaining the situation, would you be willing to let me block/decide not to block the IP instead of doing it yourself? Nyttend (talk) 16:53, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you show me diffs for the personal attacks? Nyttend (talk) 22:50, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; I was confused by the situation (indeed, I still am), so I had no idea what to do. One more question: why did you protect Highspeed's talk? Nyttend (talk) 00:40, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As you seem to be involved in a dispute with this user, I'm gravely concerned not only that you blocked them, but that you attempted to stifle their ability to seek independent review of your action. As is mentioned very explicitly both in the blocking policy and at Special:Block, that option should generally not be used without careful consideration. Now, I do see this very unusual edit, but given that I see no warnings in the history of Highspeed's talk page history, and this user has been with us since 2006, I simply don't see how an immediate and indefinite block, with zero warnings and no obvious history of disruption, set by an involved administrator two days after the fact, can be justified, let alone the talk page lock. Please be mindful of the chilling effects your actions may have on impacted users and wield your tools carefully. In the meantime, some comment on the user's current unblock request would be very much appreciated. – Luna Santin (talk) 09:54, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm referring specifically to discussion at Template talk:Monterey County, California and here at your own talk page where Highspeed was requesting the deletion of several articles you had recently created -- apparently in your eyes, this marks a user as a sockpuppet, vandal, and "racist". I say again: indefinitely blocking an editor who's been with us since 2006, and removing that user's ability to appeal, is extremely draconian. You are not judge, jury, and executioner. You've repeatedly accused Highspeed and apparently Norcalal of being socks of Biaswarrior or otherwise colluding, but I don't see any evidence of that -- and I do say that having checkusered or otherwise examined several of Biaswarrior's actual socks. Unless you can demonstrate positively that a three-year-old account is a sockpuppet, this block cannot stand on those grounds. – Luna Santin (talk) 00:43, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, I've just realized you accused Highspeed of wikistalking you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive552#User:Norcalal & User:Highspeed, and now say that you've never been in contact with Highspeed, before. Which is it? – Luna Santin (talk) 01:02, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

by the way, as the creator of Zeroing (trade), I recognize that it is a relatively arcane usage of the term, and I would be satisfied if zeroing redirected to calibration while this page were called zeroing (disambiguation) with a hatnote at calibration.

German politicians

[edit]

Appreciate your comments at the drama queen centre that is ANI. What frustrates me greatly is that the articles are intended to be transferred and would seme to differ from others in that the information exists already on wikipedia in German, it just needs putting in english. Claus Peter Poppe was expanded in two minutes flat and clearly meets content requirements. Any other one of them could be, they are not perma stubs and anybody who can be bothered can expand in two minutes flat. Over half of the articles up for deletion to not even violate BLP they are about politicians who died 30 years for example. It is always this moral panic by the community, the same attitude they showed when we made the geobot proposals. People are willing to spend time moaning and calling me names but if each and every one of them actually supported the new articles and did there best to build up the articles we'd at least get half of the new articles up to scratch. It is very disheartening to face this kind of opposition from people. I don't have to spend a minute of my time editing wikipedia and this sucks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:20, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In light of recent events and community concerns about the way in which content is transferred I have proposed a new wikiproject which would attempt to address any of the concerns and done in an environment where a major group of editors work together to transfer articles from other wikipedias in the most effective way possible without BLP or referencing problems. Please offer your thoughts at the proposal and whether or not you support or oppose the idea of a wikiproject dedicated to organizing a more efficient process of getting articles in different languages translated into English. Sujit Mukherjee

[edit]

Hi Carlos, I saw your deletion of the above article yesterday. It is an article I am in the process of creating. Just started it, and mentioned as a start stub. Sujit Mukherjee is notable as probably the best cricket writer to have come out of India, and in many opinions, one of the best ever. It is surprising that he as not there on wikipedia in the first place.
I do understand if your concern is that of the stub article being created without sources, and without enough information (that will change, the plan I have is to complete a detailed one in some time). The writer, however, is notable. Here are a few examples. Obituary on The Hindu, reputed Indian newspaper, List of books by Sujit Mukherjee, from an online portal, He has been a First-Class cricketer- Cricinfo, [2], [3], [4]. Please do consider re-instatement, and I will be taking it forward to create a comprehensive biography, as planned.- Godof86 (talk) 07:03, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sutterville

[edit]

Hey, I was wondering what prompted you to redirect Sutterville, California to Sutter Creek, California? On page 565 of California's Geographic Names, for Sutter Creek there doesn't appear to be an alternate name as "Sutterville", but there is a "Sutterville" listing on that same page. I went searching for a Wikipedia entry on Sutterville because it is a California Historical Landmark now. I have ancient APN books at where I work, and Sutterville is mapped out to be its own area. Nowadays that area is probably within the city limits of Sacramento, but Sutterville Road remains a major thoroughfare.

Hi, Carlossuarez. I am the son of a banned user of en.wiki and I want to ask you if the fact that I am going to use the same modem of my father (I live with him and my family in Coconut Creek, a town inside the greater Miami metropolitan area) will create problems. I know (from a friend who is a wikipedia user) that I must pinpoint this close relationship with my father's IP in my user page. An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Maf, Shamkir. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maf, Shamkir. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

I apologize in advance if this is not the proper way to ask you a question about this edit. I discovered only discovered that the link from the page Flatland (film) regarding the creator Ladd Ehlinger Jr was a redirect back to the same page today when I went to update information on the page. The original page was created by a intern for the film over two years ago and I did not realize that neither the director/animator/editor Ladd Ehlinger Jr nor the writer Tom Whalen had individual pages as did the Composer Mark Slater.

Is there a way to recover the original material that you may have "deleted" and/or change the redirect to an actual page such as the composer Mark Slater has? They use the same modem/phone and their IP has been mistakenly confused. Podrias ser tan gentil y decirle al admin user:Dominic que ella no tiene nada que ver con problemas de sockpuppetry y lo unico que quiere es participar escribiendo tranquilamente en wikipedia. Agnes of Anhalt-Dessau and nobility cruft

[edit]

Here are some thoughts about articles on members of the nobility, as a follow-up to your AfD nomination of Agnes of Anhalt-Dessau. Outside of situations where the holder of a title of notability was automatically included in their country's parliament (as was historically true for members of the peerage of the United Kingdom and its predecessor countries), I agree that notability is not inherent in a noble title. But WP:NOTINHERITED can be misleading. People with the advantages that come with being born into a country's nobility (education, wealth, connections, sometimes high military rank) are likelier than most to do things that will make them notable. Finding the evidence of that notability for someone who died a long time ago can be difficult, though, particularly for people outside the English-speaking world. I found out about Agnes of Anhalt-Dessau's book from a brief reference in the Los Angeles Times, for example, and at first I couldn't find it in a library catalog because I was looking under the English-language title (the book was published in German and later in Italian, but apparently not in English). Still, because members of the nobility historically received the kind of attention that movie stars do today, there is still some chance of establishing notability for them.

Many articles on people like Agnes of Anhalt-Dessau start out as if they were copied from a genealogy book. This fact shouldn't distract us from the possibility that notability by Wikipedia standards can be established, and should probably discourage us from tagging such an article for deletion without a careful search.

I would also say that someone who is created a noble, rather than acquiring a title by birth or marriage, is almost certainly notable both for other accomplishments and from the media coverage that the title's creation would have caused. - Eastmain (talk) 04:33, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Molybdenum

[edit]

Hi,Carlossuarez46,

According to your edit on the 7th of April, 2006 the city of Mersin (Turkey) profited by production of and trade in molybdenum during the ancient ages. Well, I am a citizen of Mersin and I found this assertion highly questionable. For one thing, there is neither molybdenum production nor abandoned molybdenum mines around Mersin. More important than that is the fact that molybdenum had been analyzed first time in 1778 in Sweeden long after ancient ages. Can you name a second source other than Catholic Encyclopedia ? Have a good day. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 07:54, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of one-time characters in The Simpsons

[edit]

I have relisted List of one-time characters in The Simpsons for deletion. Apparently this was one discussed before when it was known as List of one-time characters from The Simpsons. Most people have left the project since the list was known by that name. I see that you are still active and wanted to notify you of this posting. Stubs on Armenian villages

[edit]

Hello, Carlossuarez!

Thank you a lot for your laborious work on numerous stubs about Armenian villages. I really appreciate your job and understand its importancy, unlike some ukwiki users, or, to be more precise, uk:User:Ліонкінг, he's also User:Ліонкінг here. Most his edits in ukwiki consist of exact translations of your (or Cxz111's) articles into Ukrainian without any mentions of your of his authorship. Furthermore, these translations exclude links to any reliable sources - Ліонкінг is attributing this to the fact that "they are present here and in frwiki articles, and the information shouldn't arouse any doubts". Most likely, it was done in order to make him able to do whatever he wants with the articles (changing dates, coords etc., and posing it as "update"). Note that I've been indefinitely blocked on ukwiki, just because "nobody has challenged the blocking" and with no explanations and accusations of infringement of certain rules - the only my guilt was in adding templates "no sources" and "citation needed" to unverified data. However, it didn't prevent Ліонкінг from reverting my edits with comments like "rv vandalism" and alleging me for his harassment. His behavior suggests that he poses himself as the genuine author of the stubs.

Well, I'm not asking you to do anything with my contribs - given the total turmoil in the Ukrainian Wikipedia, I'm not surprised - I just would like to explain you the situation in whole.

Also, I strongly recommend you addressing Ліонкінг in order to get things clarified and to tell him about inadmissibility of such edits, since he's directly violating your author's rights. Thanks for considering my concerns, --Clyde700 (talk) 16:27, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please undo redirect & merge of Coyote Valley Reservation/Coyote Valley Rancheria.

[edit]

(Yes I know this was done several months ago, but I didn't see it then.) These are not the same place. The historical (i.e. no longer extant) "Coyote Valley Rancheria" GNIS entry used for this article refers to a former location of this reservation, now part of Lake Mendocino and/or the surrounding recreation area (check the coordinates). The modern day reservation, whose official name does in fact appear to be "Coyote Valley Reservation" according to the BIA [6], is located to the northwest, on Coyote Valley Boulevard (approximate coordinates 39.254015,-123.207596). Thanks. --Speight (talk) 04:22, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Survey on quality control policies

[edit]

As part of a project funded by the European Commission (QLectives), we are collecting and analysing data to study quality control mechanisms and inclusion/deletion policies in Wikipedia. According to our records, you participated in a large number of AfD. We are currently soliciting editors with a long record of participation in AfD discussions to send us their feedback via a very informal survey.

The survey takes less than 5 minutes and is available at this URL. Should you have any questions about this project, feel free to get in touch.

Thanks for your help! --DarTar (talk) 10:27, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Errr, never mind on this. Didn't realize at first that an IP had vandalized the article, I have now reverted it to your version. Sorry about the confusion. (Removed the message from here as well). mauler90 (talk) 06:46, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning. Please rename the article Aşağı Ağcakənd into Shaumyanovsk, because this name was used before the conflict. Thanks. --Ліонкінг (talk) 04:36, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is also a dispute over Khojavend: Talk:Martuni (town). Google test returns roughly 15,100 hits for khojavend nagorno-karabakh and 9,740 for martuni nagorno-karabakh. Your opinion is appreciated. Brandmeister[t] 19:44, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, in a second dispute also before the conflict was used the name Martuni. And as previous one it never has Azeri majority during the whole history. Only after the summer 1992, when all population of Shaumyanovsk was killed or deportated there live a small group of Azeris for 18 years (according to the Azeri claim - 207). --Ліонкінг (talk) 20:12, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Template:AJmuni, which you created and is used in over 1,000 articles, consists solely of a link to a website that is no longer active ("This domain is parked, pending renewal, or has expired. The same applies to Template:TCSC, transcluded over 2600 times, but you may be aware of this yet. I have blanked this template, as it introduced a commercial and utterly irrelevant link to these articles. Fram (talk) 13:01, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Policy on Classification by Ethnicity, Gender, Religion and Sexuality

[edit]

Hi, I have a problem with the article White Argentine. In the article I mentioned many people who are Argentine by birth and by option (they immigrated when they were children and stayed in Argetnina until their death, or they are now living there). All those people mentioned in the article are perfectly Caucasian by phenotype, and all have European/Middle Eastern ancestry. To see the names, check this older version of the article, for they are now removed. This is because some users appeared criticizing the article and alleging that mentioning all those persons without a source that explicitly define them as "White Argentine/Argentinian" was a breach to Wikipedia's BLP policy. Is that true? Because I read the article of WP policy on categorization by ethnicity, gender, religion and sexuality, and the topic "Race" is still under dispute. Besides, one of the users that criticizes the article is also involved in the proposal/discussion/RfC of the policy itself. If the matter isn't still resolved, can they apply a rule that it is not fully valid yet? If I provide sources that every living Argentine mentioned in the article is of predominantly European ancestry, isn't that enough to define him/her as White? Please, help me clarify this doubt.--Pablozeta (talk) 12:29, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category Dacian tribes

[edit]

The Category:Dacian tribes was merged here under CFD 2009 May 28 however this creates a problem.

I am working to add categories like gods, towns, kings, tribes under Category:Dacia. With this merge it is no longer possible to add the tribes.

Why not have Category:Dacian tribes under both Category:Dacia and Category:Ancient tribes in the Balkans?

I find it more useful and clearer.--Codrinb (talk) 17:29, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Kirt

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kirt requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Sven Manguard Wha? 05:37, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, You created the article Colwood, Cornwall as a village. I can't find any reference to the village, but a few reference to Colwood farm at the location. Due to its questionable existence I've now prodded the article for deletion.--Salix (talk): 23:43, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Hilton, Aberdeenshire has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Disambiguation page with only redlink entries

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

The four places linked are all non-notable individual farms. Deskford (talk) 21:00, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, kudos for the years of work! You've added cloaked text to the shortest of these to prevent them from being listed on short pages. Shimizu High School

[edit]

Hi! I noticed back in 2008 Shimizu High School was deleted.

The reason was "Wikipedia:CSD#A1"

But I believe that context was well established, so it should not qualify for deletion under Wikipedia:CSD#A1 WhisperToMe (talk) 07:36, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regardless, having disambig pages with both entries being redlinks is a no-no. Feel free to recreate it if the title actually needs disambiguating. That is to say, if there are multiple schools notable enough to have Wikipedia articles with that exact name. Killiondude (talk) 07:42, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, that is a point - At some point this week I plan to create at least one of the linked articles
If the proper deletion procedures were followed (AFD), or I received notification back then, I would have created articles, and that would have been that.
WhisperToMe (talk) 07:46, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We don't send a disambig page to AFD (Articles for Deletion) since it's not an article. If I saw a disambig with only redlinks on it I probably would have used CSD G6. It's not that big of an issue; it only had two listings (takes about 60 seconds to remake, if needed, yes?) Killiondude (talk) 17:06, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I only saw my watchlist from today and didn't see the prior edit. I'll check it, and I'm going to move both comments to the talk page so others can discuss this. Mean (disambiguation)

[edit]

Hello - I don't want to start an edit war and I ain't gonna - but why take out the majority of contributions to this page without explanation - if it was you? My contributions are not even on the edit history now. I don't understand. What happened? I am a fairly new user - please explain and be a bit friendly!

Mean does have a standard and acknowledged meaning of stingy or 'miserliness'. I think it is appropriate to list that if the cruel and and angry, cheifly American meaning is listed. Mr. Mean of the Mr. Men, the British-written children's literature series, makes the distinction clear - since he was given the name 'Mr. Stingy' in the original American release according to the Mr. Men article. Can we agree to put some of these internal links in? I think they are encyclopaedic, if not high-brow. I look forward to hearing back from you. Kathybramley (talk) 13:31, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The full history of the page is now displaying, not sure what happened. Please only reply to what you were responsible for - at the time of writing the above message yours was the only name I could see in the history. I am sorry. Kathybramley (talk) 14:00, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Really sorry - as I explained above your was the only name showing at first. I didn't intend it as 'accussation' more as a question of really seeking to understand what happened, but you had nothing to do with it. Again, I am really sorry and I hope you will forgive me. Questionable edit

[edit]

I saw your edit to Lavash. I reverted the addition of a few tags you added, each of them in a separate edit and with stated reason. Why do you call reliable sources unreliable? Do you have a point perhaps? Debresser (talk) 18:15, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

[edit]

I started looking at some more of your edits, and I saw what you did to Pincus for example. You removed completely uncontested and reliable info, just because it had no source. You didn't ask for a source by adding a tag, you didn't raise a question on the talk page. And the information was easily sourced, after all. It seems to me you are applying Wikipedia's WP:V incorrectly. Please reevaluate your edits on Wikipedia. Debresser (talk) 18:25, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I just reverted this edit of yours to this article:[8]. I'm sorry to say I classified it as vandalism, as I couldn't see any good-faith reason for it. If I was wrong to do so, please explain your edit on the talk page: how exactly could Mohammed Atta be considered a 'perpetrator' of the 1996 incident? Robofish (talk) 22:32, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, I'll just add I had no problem with this edit of yours two days ago to the same article:[9]. That edit was entirely correct: the article should never have been in those categories. Robofish (talk) 22:35, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your explanation of your edit. I understand why you did it now, and I accept it wasn't intended as vandalism - sorry for making that accusation. I think you're right that it would be best to leave Atta out of the article entirely - the stuff about him belongs in a different article, not that one.
I hadn't actually noticed that by reverting your edit, I'd also restored the 'Qana massacre' title to the infobox as well - that was a mistake, it shouldn't be there. I'll be more careful with how I use the rollback tool in future. Robofish (talk) 00:40, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to just move a section, then?

[edit]

Splitting the article is the protocol with large tornado outbreaks from what I understand and what I understood when I was a more regular editor. Is there a way to move specifically a section so that the history of just that section is retained? Inferno, Lord of Penguins

In any case, it's too late to revert myself as the list page has accumulated a history itself. I obviously am not an administrator, but is there a way I can help out with the history merge that needs to be done? Also, how would I go about splitting articles in situation like this in the future so I don't mess up again? Inferno, Lord of Penguins 20:47, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I went on ANI to find out what should be done, and was told that no history merge was needed and that what I did was fine, per WP:SPLIT. Inferno, Lord of Penguins 00:11, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tram, Kentucky

[edit]

My edits weren't based on a misunderstanding of the USGS listings; they were primarily based on the fact that Tram (and the other places I changed) are not listed in the 2010 census gazetteer of places in Kentucky or the 2010 population tables, which include all other new CDPs such as Auxier. My mention of the USGS listings was based on the census class codes; note for Auxier the census class code is U5, for a census-designated place, but for Tram the census class code is U6, for an unincorporated place which is not a census-designated place. I'm not sure why the GNIS has listings for census-designated places which aren't recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau, but it appears to be a mistake on the part of USGS. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 17:18, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My source that they aren't CDPs is their absence from the census gazetteer and population counts, which contain all places included in the 2010 census. The gazetteer also includes places from the 2000 and 1990 censuses, and Tram isn't listed their either. Besides, considering the USGS source is a list of "New Census Designated Places" submitted in 2010, it is unlikely to be from an earlier census. Since census-designated places are by definition places which are identified by the Census Bureau, the fact that the places aren't included in the census gazetteer or its population counts means they are not CDPs in 2010. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 20:16, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alt names

[edit]

I think alt names for cities are fascinating, but just like New York City's lede doesn't mention New Amsterdam, this kind of information should be in the history section. As a good comparison, Istanbul does mention Constantinople and Byzantium in the lede, but that's because the city was very well known for those names in earlier eras. Bakersfield is not comparable in that regard, so I moved the additional names to the history section. --Bobak (talk) 23:23, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wangtang, Guilin

[edit]

If you want to avoid trouble like that in the future (for towns, townships, and villages in China), then I suggest you do one of the following: 1) add Chinese at the very top of the article. 2) List the county-level division that the settlement is in. And, after reading WP:NC-ZH#Administrative, title the article appropriately 3) Add coordinates independent of any possible bullshit GEONet could give you.

Even though many of these were created in 2009, that is not an excuse for their abysmal quality and as an admin with the number of edits you have, you should know better. —HXL's Roundtable and Record 13:45, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Census . . .

[edit]

Hello. I hope you are having as fine an evening as I am. I just wondered where you are getting the census information you have recently added to some of the pages I've been following ??? Any info would be appreciated. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 04:03, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What I meant was, who determined the boilerplate text that you are inserting. Who wrote it in the first place? Was there discussion? Where? Can the boilerplate be changed? How? Why is "White" capitalized? Stuff like that. Yours in Wikidom, GeorgeLouis (talk) 19:27, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, again. I really must protest the boilerplate. Your are capitalizing white, which should be lower-cased, and you are giving the amount of the ocean or rivers or lakes or whatever to areas that are almost completely dry. Also you are using a percent symbol (%) in text when it should be in a word, percent. Now I have to go through all the articles I am watching and correct everything. I asked you before how to protest this, but have received no reply. Sincerely, still your pal, GeorgeLouis (talk) 02:33, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since "White" is the official census category for race, it should be capitalized. [[10]] Please as you are going thru your articles correct to the proper capitalization. TY!DocOfSocTalk 23:20, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

flags in infoboxes

[edit]

I respect your belief that flags make an article prettier. However, aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder. The Wikipedia manual of style specifically discourages the use of flags in infoboxes. As it says at MOS:FLAG, they are unnecessarily distracting and give undue prominence to one field among many. Please stop adding flags to infoboxes. —Stepheng3 (talk) 18:03, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It does, absolutely. And its a complete contradiction when we see thousands of articles which tons of flags in them. Personally I think the country parameters of infoboxes look odd without flags and bare and can I change Peru or something to  Peru. An editor persisently reverted the changes you made to MOS fFLAG. Its a joke that some people cite it as a guideline when there is no consensus.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:20, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See User talk:Bobrayner#Flags. I've put the flag templates up for deletion. Perhaps the reuslt of the TFD will make the stance clearer on whether flags are desirable or not. Could I live without flags, yes, but the biggest thing I hate is double standards and people citing guidelines when they are contradicted enmasse in such a scale.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:18, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ajabaj

[edit]

Hi Carlos,

I am attempting to deorphan the Ajabaj article you created and I am running into some difficulty. The article states that Ajabaj is a town in Syunik Province, but the Syunik Province article states that there are only 109 communities in the province, all of which are listed, and Ajabaj is not in that list. Are towns different from communities in Armenia? If so, could a list of non-community towns be added to the Syunik Province article?

Neelix (talk) 18:14, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carlos,
Thank you for responding so quickly to my question and for updating the corresponding articles. How would you feel about the articles about the villages of Nor Astghaberd being merged into the Nor Astghaberd article? Neither of these articles consists of more than a few sentences, so all the present information would easily fit on one short article.
Neelix (talk) 15:29, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Carlos,
My concern is that Ajabaj, Getishen, and Vocheti are all orphans without any apparent articles that could meaningfully link to them. If they were merged, the coordinates could simply be stated in the body text of the article rather than being pinpointed on a map; the differences in location are not very large anyway. The other option is to create a navbox that links to all the villages in the raion of Kapan divided by community, but that would necessitate determining the community that each village belongs to.
Neelix (talk) 18:01, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am still waiting for that apology . . .

. . . or maybe you missed this on my Talk Page: CarlosSuarez, "please be a doer"? That is just insulting. By writing a message I am "doing" something. If you care to look at my record, I think you will see plenty of "doing." I await your apology. Yours, GeorgeLouis (talk) 01:00, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks...

[edit]

...for creating Wolf, Nevada County, California. I had left it as a red link in the Wolf (disambiguation) page for years as a lacuna hoping to attract someone to fill it in. Red link items are a no-no on WP:MOSDAB, and made me worried and embarassed. That disambiguation page has been "my baby" for some time and I hated to leave a red link like that, so today I feel like a collector who just collected the coveted last piece of a set. Chrisrus (talk) 05:14, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Say, I was thinking....do you think it would be helpful to a user if each "Wolf, CA" articles mentioned the other somehow? Something like a "not to be confused with" statement, maybe a hatnote, or a link to the disambiguation page subsection, or the independant disambiguation page Wolf, California, or some other such thing? The reason I mention it is, there seems to me to be a high likelyhood of there being some user confusion when there is such a thing as two places with the same name in the same state. Not sure what to do about it, though! Chrisrus (talk) 05:31, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

La Palma 2010 demographics figures errors

[edit]

I have totally changed the reading of the 2010 La Palma, California demographics figures for two reason. First off it makes no sense to list the number of people in each racial group instead of the percentages. Percentages are the better way to go. However I am pointing this out to you for the second reason, that is that you made statements about the data that are not supported by the data. Specifically you do not know how many of the various Asian populations sub-groups, such as Koreans, may or may not have been part of the 0.3% of the population that was Asian and Hispanic or Latino. You are mixing and misreading your sources. For all you know all 0.3% of the Hispanic Asian are Korean. On the other hand for all you know absolutly none of them are Korean. You can not legitimately list the Korean population when specifying the non-Hispanic or Latino population of La Palma, or in fact any place that has any Hispanic or Latino Asians.John Pack Lambert (talk) 17:25, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed, and I just wanted to say thank you for the work that you are doing to improve this wonderful encyclopedia. I hate to repeat myself, but I must. Again, thank you. Wikipedia University Program

[edit]

Hello, I contacted you a few weeks ago about your work updating census data and keeping racial and ethnic statistics distinct. I am now contacting you about another issue. Last semester, I served as a Wikipedia online ambassador to college classes using Wikipedia as a teaching tool. I am now at a conference in Boston planning significant expansion in the coming academic year. I am now in a meeting with California participants. I am not sure whether you are a Californian, but am curious whether you may know any Wikipedians who might want to get involved with this project, or if you know of any college professors who might be interested in incorporating Wikipedia into their classes. The Wikimedia Foundation is providing substantial support to this effort, and it is growing fast. Please let me know if you have any interest. Cullen328 (talk) 21:59, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of editing conventions for census topics

[edit]

Hi. With the 2010 Census data becoming a focus for a lot of editing activity, I think we need a US-wide discussion of editing conventions. I've started this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States, which I think is an appropriate venue for it. First topic there is Describing/naming census designated places. Please participate in that discussion, if you see fit, and add more topics. --Orlady (talk) 19:01, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Demographic Additions to Vista, CA

[edit]

Are you sure you want to add all that information for the city? It seems like it overwhelms the article to have so much information, all of which is easily available at the link, and which any researcher would need to visit anyway if s/he were looking to confirm. I understand that it meets the technical standards to add it here, and I respect your substantial contributions in the community, so I'm not editing it or deleting, but please consider again whether it's appropriate or necessary. Re: Flags

[edit]

Where does it say that? —Stepheng3 (talk) 01:23, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see where it says that infoboxes should have flag icons in them. What are the exact words and where would I find them? —Stepheng3 (talk) 17:53, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I look closer, I see a footnote that you added yourself on June 13th. Was this the result of a discussion? If so, I'm sorry I missed it. I wonder what would happen if I reverted you? —Stepheng3 (talk) 19:59, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Carlos, I found your response rather harsh. If I've offended you, I apologize. Clearly, MOSFLAG is an area where good-faith editors can have honest differences of opinion as to what's best for the encyclopedia and its users.
Like most editors, I am primarily motivated by a desire to improve the encyclopedia. I've been using {{Infobox settlement}} regularly since at least 2009. Now I feel caught in the crossfire, and it's uncomfortable for me. I'm not interested in sabotaging any discussion, but I reserve the right to disagree in a respectful fashion.
That said, I searched the edit history of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography back to 2007. I didn't find the discussion in question, but that's probably because I didn't know what to look for. I would appreciate a pointer of some sort. Sorry to be so burdensome, —Stepheng3 (talk) 04:47, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Carlos, I think perhaps you misunderstood me. I'm looking for the extensive discussion that justified you creating this project-wide exception to MOSFLAGS. The discussion you pointed me to does not mention the Manual of Style or any of the six other infoboxes covered by the exception, nor does it explain why flags are desired in {{Infobox settlement}}. I don't see any connection between those performance issues back in March 2010 (which were solved by Xeno in June 2010) and the current sense of MOSFLAGS, which dates from December 2010. —Stepheng3 (talk) 23:40, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Carlos, I know about the bug-fix; I was involved, and I think it's a red herring. You haven't answered my question. Where is the "long discussion" on which your exception to MOSFLAG was based? —Stepheng3 (talk) 17:28, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I, too, find our dialog frustrating. Since I'm not trying to change any guidelines, just implement them, I don't feel any need to start RFC.
I've done more research, and here's the sequence of events, as I see it:
  1. There was a long-standing practice of including flag icons in geographical infoboxes such as {{Infobox settlement}}, particularly for settlements outside the United States, though of course it was never done 100% consistently. I'm not aware of any serious public discussion of this practice prior to 2010; it was merely the status quo.
  2. Attempts to parse the subdivision_name= parameter in {{Infobox settlement}} eventually led to performance concerns, which were raised by Wikid77 in March 2010. Wikid77 suggested removing all the flag icons, but Xeno told him not to bother because the concern was being addressed through template changes and a bot request. The MOS was not mentioned, but neither was any rationale given for including flag icons in {{Infobox settlement}}.
  3. When the bot finished its work in June 2010, the performance issue was closed.
  4. In December 2010, there was a brief discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (icons) about avoiding flags in infoboxes for individuals. No geographical infoboxes were mentioned. Jpatokal added a blanket prohibition at MOSFLAG against flags in infoboxes, which was ignored by WikiProject Geography.
  5. In February, the new MOSFLAG guideline came to my attention when Gnevin requested deletion of all flags from {{Geobox}}. This seemed non-controversial and was quickly implemented.
  6. In early June, you were adding 2010 census data for California cities and CDPs in a big way (thank you again for that) and changing the subdivision_name= to {{USA}} in every article you touched.
  7. On June 10th, I asked you not to add the flag icons, pointing you to MOSFLAG. You said you would update MOSFLAG to reflect that {{Infobox settlement}} was an exception. You did, but were promptly reverted. You started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (icons).
  8. On June 13th, you quietly added a footnote to Wikipedia:WikiProject Geography indicating that there was a project-wide exception to MOSFLAG.
  9. On July 9th, I saw that MOSFLAG had not been successfully changed. I began removing flag icons from {{Infobox settlement}}, mostly ones you'd added the month before.
  10. On July 19th, you asked me to stop remove flag icons, and I did so. We began the current dialog.
I suspect that you misled me when you claimed that your June 13th edit "was the result of a long discussion" and have been trying to understand where you were coming from. We don't seem to be getting anywhere.
Reading the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (icons), I see that there's considerable disagreement about whether MOSFLAG should apply to {{Infobox settlement}}. The arguments on both sides seem to boil down to matters of taste. I am keeping out of it.
Best regards,—Stepheng3 (talk) 19:19, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not in a mood collaborate more closely with you. Rest assured that I'll continue contributing in ways which give me satisfaction. —Stepheng3 (talk) 21:26, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed that the documentation for {{Infobox settlement}} says "don't add flag icons or flag templates in this field", a prescription which has been in place since February 2009. —Stepheng3 (talk) 06:34, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm communicating with you, just not collaborating directly. Sorry if I bothered you, —Stepheng3 (talk) 20:57, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Carlos, I do not see anywhere in the infobox template where we should be posting flagicons. To the contrary WP:MOSFLAG says don't add flags. The edit summary you added for Corona, California said WP:GEOGRAPHY, but that is simply the project page -- it does not serve as a guideline. The settlement infobox template has a line for a flag, which I read as applying to the flag of the particular settlement. It does not suggest adding flags for the higher levels of government. What are your thoughts?--S. Rich (talk) 00:06, 11 February 2012 (UTC) You know what? I see the footnote on the Project page about MOS:FLAG not applying to geographic infoboxes. And I suppose a settlement qualifies. Well, the Project page is not the best place for such guidance, so I think I'll initiate some changes on the settlement template & MOS page. 00:24, 11 February 2012 (UTC) One more note -- I've started a topic on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography 00:50, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Carlos, I kinda regret bringing up the topic on the Geography Project talk page -- my real object was to get the discussion going (again) on the appropriate MOS page. The importance of this issue is slightly less than a hill of beans, but to assist editors who what to fiddle with settlement infobox template guidelines, my goad is that we resolve the issue on the template or MOS pages, not the geography project page. Will you assist please? E.g., let's find an appropriate page to discuss this burning issue and get editors to focus in on that particular page. Thanks.--S. Rich (talk) 04:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Noting a few recent edits on the Infobox document page, I've started a discussion here: Template_talk:Infobox_settlement#flagcons_in_settlement_infoboxes.--S. Rich (talk) 02:40, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Gracy (writer) has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your prolific new articles on Californian settlements, past and present and taking the initiative to start the Districts of Iran. Keep it up Carlos! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:56, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm, to be honest I was not aware that there were districts of Iran, I of course knew of the counties. This does complicate the templates as the districts should really be linked in them as well as the major cities. Could split by county but would probably mean too many templates need to be made.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:22, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you check Danesfahan and Esfarvarin?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:27, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If there was one country I could have selected for somebody to develop and to make more consistent it would have been Iran. SO very pleased you are working on it and given the great lengths you went to in getting Azerbaijan all started, I'm sure you'll see this through too. Thankyou Carlos, this is great work you are doing.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:50, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aside from China, and possibly Russia, I actually think Iran is missing more sizeable towns than any country on here, certainly by population. In fact we are literally missing hundreds of cities I think, which is rare, given I've gone through most countries and tried to ensure we at least have articles on cities and major towns.. Most countries already have articles on the cities, just most of the small towns and villages are missing... Some of these are really big towns on google maps! ♦ Dr. Blofeld

Oh we have most over 100,000 except China, but I'm talking about towns between 5000 and 100,000 in Iran.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:22, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes an infobox to go in the county articles and district articles would be a good idea. I'll do one county and district for you to copy the infoboxes from.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:31, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Wonderland, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no clear evidence of the exitence of a settlement of this name

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You got anything on Tankaman, Alborz? Actually its a substantial town on google maps that's why asked. I was fishing for a population figure yes. I'll start it in a minute, sorry to disrupt your pattern, very big village... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:47, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

There's an open edit request for this template. Seeing as you are both the author and the protecting admin, I thought you'd like to have a look. IMO this needs completely reformatted, and there was no need for premature protection. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) - talk 10:14, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Flagging error

[edit]

I was just flagged for edit waring on that The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills page also, along with several others, all of whom just left Puppet dude a message. When I clicked on his talk page I was directed to a sandbox. (??) Hope he gets his act together. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:22, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are doing great in Iranian geographical names Alborz Fallah (talk) 15:42, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent job! Don't worry about the 20% without coordinates just add a coord missing|Iran to them. Look forward to seeing all the new templates too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:07, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can I help?

[edit]

Sure I can read Persian . Sometimes if there are not phonetic markers and the word is not familiar , it seems to be difficult to read the word correctly (same as English) . I think the word you mentioned can be read as Do Rak . Do like do it . Rak like back.--Alborz Fallah (talk) 16:38, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will do my best . My thanks .--Alborz Fallah (talk) 16:42, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try to get them bot uploaded, not doing all them manually!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:29, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. Since Kermanshah's in Iran, I put in the Cities in Iran category as well. Yeah, I've since learned to keep those categories simple. Thanks for telling me! - Alvin Seville (talk) 00:02, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Qolian, Lorestan which county? The article doesn't say Azna but the infobox does?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:18, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nav boxes all say Azna County...♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:37, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Makes no sense to format the county templates like that with not even 1/4 of the width to list the villages. Much better to link them like Template:Aligudarz County.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:42, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter, that's less important than having a template as long as the Empire State building.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:49, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am all for comprehensive templates like the Armenian ones etc but it would be ridiculous to have 1500 articles linked in a template!! At least if there are going to be a lot of districts you should make optimum use of the width of the pages!! I've addressed it here. My eeling is that if the templates are going to be that long you should use shrinkable sub section templates like the Serbian monasteries one. When the template starts to approach x 20 the length of the article it becomes an issue, especially as you are against shrinkable templates...♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:55, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah its my browser, I just looked on standard on Safari browser and it is indeed 3/4. That's fine. Trust me on my browser the template looks ridiculous and covers less than 1/4 of the width!! If the template is going to be twice or more times as long though perhaps you would consider shrinkable sections like the Serbian monastery template. You can't link 1500 articles without shrinking something!! Not sure though you you put up with the tiny text on standard, doesn't it ever bore you?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:02, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My eyesight is good at least for the screen too, but I just find the standard font boring, I use Gabriola font at the moment..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:16, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this message is to let you know about disambiguation links you've recently created. A link to a disambiguation page is almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

Iranian place locations

[edit]

Hi -- thanks for catching the bot's recent errors. I've checked back over my records, and found all the Iranian locations auto-geocoded in the last few days. There were four, and you have fixed all of them already, so I did not need to roll them back. I've updated the bot's code to filter out Iranian locations from this type of coordinate matching. I've also replied to you on my talk page. -- The Anome (talk) 21:55, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Districts of Costa Rica and Paraguay

[edit]

Hola Carlos, I have seen you in Wikipedia:List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_edits and you are the first with a Spanish looking username. Do you know anyone that could help with creating articles for the Districts of Costa Rica and the Districts of Paraguay? I think infoboxes should be added as well as categories. Oakland (near Madison), Lauderdale County, Alabama

[edit]

I've assumed you simply put the wrong county name in the page title and have moved Oakland (near Madison), Lauderdale County, Alabama, which you created, to Oakland (near Madison), Limestone County, Alabama (and db-r3'd the resulting redirect) per the USGS page cited. Thought I might leave you a note in case I misinterpreted something. Cheers,—Ketil Trout (<><!) 22:22, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Carlos,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 02:29, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi hello. Would the CfR be in any way relevant to the debate around the move from Republic of China to Taiwan (See Talk:Republic of China and Talk:Taiwan (disambiguation))? 218.250.159.25 (talk) 22:58, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have made more than three reverts in a 24-hour period and any other revert could result in being blocked from editing. I have asked you numerous times to start a talk page discussion to try and gain a consensus instead of continually reverting per WP:BRD. I once again ask that if you really want the information removed, you need to start a discussion. Aspects (talk) 05:18, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Briniates has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Extreme one-sentence stub; arguably WP:DICDEF.
