You seem to be
[edit]A dedicated editor at the Suarez article. You might consider (as you have already begun) a thorough review of the lede. I would first check each factual statement to ensure it also appears in the main body, and if and where it does, the citations should (and can only) appear in the main body, and needn't appear in the lede. This, and continuing to ask "What are the most revealing of his accomplishments and awards, so suitable to the lede", and removing any references where two or more appear, where the additional references do not add to the verifiability or integrity of the cited fact. Taken together, this will help the article move toward having a very good lede. Cheers, Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 09:22, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Following on from this conversation, I've been working on removing the last few links to the site mentioned from articles before it gets blacklisted, and was advised here to remove the http bit from live links to the site in talk pages. You'll see from this list that there's one link in your sandbox, I imagine it came from an older version of the Ronaldinho article. I'm not going to interfere with your sandbox myself, but you might want to take the http off the front of the url yourself next time you edit in there. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:05, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
Johan Cruyff - Peres quote
[edit]I notice you reinstated the Peres quote in the Johan Cruyff content, referencing the Cruyff Foundation - do you mind if I remove the quote, leaving the ref? Peres is a controversial figure, having nothing to do with football, whose opinion in this context is not quoteworthy; the quote itself is at best anodyne and unduly dominates the rest of the section. [edit] You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on El Clásico. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.
If another user is edit warring it is best to report them and not to continue the dispute. The issue doesnta ppear to be a BLP issue so should be taken to the talk page, I will be requesting page protection so it might be beter left alone until a consensus can be reached so that it doesnt appear that you are adding to the issue. I do support your removal but it would be best to not run the risk of getting blocked as well. Amortias (T)(C) 21:54, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be engaged in an edit war with one or more editors according to your reverts at El Clásico. Although repeatedly reverting or undoing another editor's contributions may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, and often creates animosity between editors. Instead of edit warring, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.
If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block.
You are getting dangeroulsy close to this happening again. I would strongly advise that you take it to the talk page and let someone else sort this mess out, I'm going to go request page protection (again) Amortias (T)(C) 21:26, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Zidane
[edit]The 'BBC greatest European footballer of all time' - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/3764063.stm vote won by Zidane is a completely different award from the 'UEFA best European footballer of the previous 50 years' poll - http://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/171606.pdf. As you can see in the links, even the top-10s are different. Hence only one being mentioned is not 'sufficient', as it does not give any idea regarding the other.
The difference is the same as between a World Soccer Player of the Year and FIFA World Player of the Year (one being from a publication while the other is from a football governing body). Therefore, since both are retained, same should be the case with the BBC and UEFA awards.
El Pais is a publication award, like World Soccer Player of the Year. Link - http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/sam-eupoy.html. I have added this to the external sources on the El Pais page.
If you just want to go by official awards, Ballon d'Or was never originally an official award either i.e. it wasn't awarded by a football governing body, it was an honour awarded by the publication France Football.
Hence, please revert your reverts on my edits.

Edit war warning
[edit]Your recent editing history at Cristiano Ronaldo–Lionel Messi rivalry shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkudlick (talk • contribs) 18:55, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for your input; I'll keep that in mind when editing in the future. I hope you don't mind but I would like to rephrase some of the material I had added to the "Weah" article, and incorporate it under a "Style of play" subheading, but in a more objective manner.

Nike
[edit]The reference you added on the Nike page doesn't confirm that pronunciation at all; in fact, it actually says there is a "correct way to pronounce the brand's name." Wolfdog (talk) 02:00, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- It refers to the other pronunciation, but essentially labels it a mistake. Perhaps other sources will be found. I speak General American English and I've only ever heard it pronounced with the two syllables. Do you come from elsewhere? Maybe the one-syllable pronunciation originates from outside of the U.S. Wolfdog (talk) 02:11, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ah yes. Now that I go on Forvo I see that the only British speaker pronounces it your way, in stark contrast to everyone else on that site. I am beginning to suspect (along with the fact that a UK periodical -- The Guardian -- would have to tell people how to pronounce "Nike," which Americans wouldn't require, since we already say it with 2 syllables as far as I've ever known) that your pronunciation is a uniquely British one. Wolfdog (talk) 02:18, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, so it's dialectal then. And you've heard the one-syllable pronunciation in Irish and Australian speakers then? Wolfdog (talk) 02:43, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

FIFA Ballon d'Or
[edit]Hi, again. I just wanted to inquire about what the issue was regarding the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo not only has equalled Zidane and Ronaldo with 3 FIFA Awards, but also Cruyff, Platini and van Basten with 3 Ballon d'Or Awards? The FIFA Ballon d'Or is technically recognised as both, so I don't really think it's anything libelous or unverified; even UEFA states that Cristiano Ronaldo has tied Platini, etc. I also remember when Messi won the 2011 Award, there was widespread news regarding the fact that he had equalled Platini by winning 3 consecutive Ballon d'Or Awards, and that he was also only the third payer to win three FIFA Awards. I think both should be included, as they are equally important individual achievements. Thanks, best regards.
Messirulez (talk) 01:19, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
P.S. I've been trying to trim down some of the "Style of play" sections in certain articles!
http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/association=esp/news/newsid=2201717.html
I understand that, but even FIFA (http://m.fifa.com/ballon-dor/news/y=2015/m=1/news=ronaldo-kessler-low-and-kellermann-triumph-at-fifa-ballon-d-or-2014-2505871.html) acknowledge that their Ballon d'Or Award is still regarded as a newer, more developed version of the previous Ballon d'Or Award, and their website also state that this is Cristiano Ronaldo's third Ballon d'Or Award, and that he has equalled the former records of Platini, van Basten, and Cruyff. It's true that France Football's Award was initially only given to the European Footballer of the Year; however, from 1995 onwards, it was awarded to the best player playing in a European League, regardless of the footballer's nationality, and in more recent editions of the Award, even non-European players competing in non-European leagues were nominated, therefore it had arguably also been expanded into a "World Footballer of the Year" Award during the final decade and a half of its existence, hence why FIFA decided to merge with France Football's Award, in order to avoid competition between the two awards, and to create a more prestigious prize which superseded both awards. Furthermore, the creation of the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year Awards (now the UEFA Best Player in Europe) during the 1997-98 season seemed to serve a similar function to that of the initial "European Footballer of the Year" incarnation of Ballon d'Or Award. Thoughts?
Sorry, I misread that link, and you are correct about that. However, I did manage find another one on the FIFA Ballon d'Or website, and although it does state, as you have elucidated, that the previous winners of the Award prior to its inception in 2014 ARE in fact the FIFA World Player winners, in the "details" sub-pages, the names of the France Football Ballon d'Or winners are also included alongside the FIFA World Player Winners; furthermore, France Football is still a representative of the FIFA Ballon d'Or, therefore I think it could still be argued that the new Award still represents both organisations' previous awards, in particular as in the later editions of the Ballon d'Or, any player, regardless of nationality or the league in which they were playing, were eligible to be nominated. What do you think about this?
http://m.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/index.html
http://m.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/edition=1991/index.html
Yes, I understand what you are saying, and after looking up the FIFA Ballon d'Or on the official website in more detail, I see that you are right, and my assumption was incorrect. What is still slightly ambiguous, to me at least, is that, although on the main page of the link you had posted, under the 2001 sub-heading, there was no mention of Owen, if you click on "edition details", a new page opens up, and Figo is listed as the FIFA Ballon d'Or winner, and Owen as the France Football Ballon d'Or winner (http://m.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/edition=2001/index.html), therefore that does seem to imply that the former France Football Ballon d'Or also has some significance (in this link it also lists the winners of both awards http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/index.html - I'm not trying to be difficult here, by the way; I do see your point, I understand what you are saying, and I agree with you; if you don't mind, I would just like to discuss this further with you!).
I know you said that the FIFA Ballon d'Or award is now acknowledged only as being a re-establishment of the FIFA Award for the World Player of the Year under a new name, not the European Footballer of the Year Award, but on the official website it does state that the two awards were merged; this is what I still find perplexing. The new FIFA Ballon d'Or Award also bears some similarities of both awards, as now, journalists are also entitled to elect the winner of the award, as well as the managers, and players, therefore it still seems to me that it is generally assumed that the new Award represents both former awards, as the France Football Award was widely regarded as a competing World Footballer Award from 2007 onwards, when it officially grew out of its initial status as being merely the Award for the European Footballer of the Year (sorry that I'm repeating myself so often here; I hope that I'm not being too irritating in prolonging this discussion further! By the way, here is a link that mentions the new regulations in 2007, which enabled any player in any league to be eligible for the France Football Ballon d'Or - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/7750910.stm). Anyway, that was why I had added that additional passage to the Cristiano Ronaldo page; what exacerbated the matter was that many other newspapers had made assumptions that were similar to mine regarding the Award, oh well. All the best!
Messirulez (talk) 02:48, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi...I know it's random to bring this up again, but I was just on the France Football Website and I saw just by chance that they have also included the FIFA Ballon d'Or winners in their Ballon d'Or awards list along with the original Ballon d'or winners (http://www.francefootball.fr/ballon-d-or/palmares/); it also said on their official site that france football journalists still have a say in the election process...I find this new information all the more confusing...to me it doesn't seem to only be a FIFA Award but a fusion of both awards, and it seems to have replaced both (http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/index.html - this FIFA Ballon d'Or honours page from 1991-2009 lists the winners of both awards, for example...and prior to 1991 it lists all the Ballon d'Or winners - even though they were only European players). I don't know what you think though. Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 23:25, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I know and agree (especially as until '95 France Football stated that only European players playing in Europe were even eligible for their award, whereas South American players were awarded the South American Player of the Year Award, and African players were awarded the African Footballer of the Year Award and so on), but from 2007, players playing in any league became eligible for the Ballon d'or...so although it was still often referred to as the European Footballer of the Year in the media, I know that it had infact become a global award, no longer a continental one, and I remember reading an article about it when Kakà won the award (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/7750910.stm - here is a similar article to the one I had read)...so the FIFA Ballon d'Or does seem to be an amalgamation of the most recent incarnation of the Ballon d'Or (as an international award from 2007 onwards - http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/history/index.html - this FIFA Ballon d'Or honours page from 1991-2009 lists the winners of both awards, for example...and prior to 1991 it lists all the Ballon d'Or winners - even though they were only European players)) and the FIFA World Player of the Year...and France Football would have had to give FIFA permission to use the "Ballon d'Or" name for the new award...I suppose it doesn't really matter, and there isn't really an obvious answer, but I just personally think Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's FIFA Ballon d'Or awards should count for both awards in that case. Anyway, just another thought on that. Best, Messirulez (talk) 16:07, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

References
[edit]I've noticed that you've been adding references to some articles that aren't as complete as they could be so I've placed an "how to use the references templates" below. Hope you find it helpful. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 16:41, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Adding references can be easy
[edit] Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.
Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:
- While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
- Then click on "Templates".
- Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the web URL (or "website link") becomes inactive in the future.
- Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
- Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
- Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.
- Before clicking on Save page, check that a References header ==References== is near the end of the article.
- And check that {{Reflist}} is directly underneath that header.
- 7. Click on Save page. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.
You can read more about this on Help:Edit toolbar or see this video File:RefTools.ogv.
Hope this helps, --Shearonink (talk) 16:41, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- To use this message, place
{{subst:User:Shearonink/ref}}
on User:talk pages when needed.

Football records in Spain
[edit]Hello
You might remember me from those debates regarding the Copa Eva Duarte trophy of 1952-53 and whether it was official. It turns out that I was right and I even contacted FC Barcelona and it seems that my mission succeeded. They have now added it as a official honor.
http://www.fcbarcelona.com/football/detail/card/honours-football
Now it's time to edit the "Football Records in Spain" page and include the Copa Eva Duarte trophy in the list of honors.

I would appreciate it if you could do this.

Do you have any sources about the spread of the English language?
[edit]Hi, Carlos Rojas77,
As I think you have seen from your watchlist, there is currently very active editing on the article English language. Welcome aboard. Do you have any sources at hand about any aspect of English? I see you have an interest in how English has spread around the world, and that will be one of the next sections of the article to be revised from top to bottom. It will be great to check and double-check sources with you to make sure that the article is accurate and well cited. Colonies are the Empire ?
[edit]Just to point out that some colonies (including the fledgling United States), were British colonies, but were never Empire.Pincrete (talk) 17:08, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Wikipedia appears to agree with you, under British Empire, it lists ALL the constitutional arrangements (inc colonies) in the British 'sphere of influence'. Personally I would always make a distinction between colonies (largely the result of settlement, and largely self-governing), and Empire (largely ruled from Britain, undemocratic for the majority and largely the result of conquest).
- Specifically I've never heard of the US colonies being referred to as 'Empire'. However, regardless of whether the distinction is worth making, we are I think agreed that English spread as a result of widespread political/military/trading power of Britain and the predominance of English in countries such as the US, Canada etc.Pincrete (talk) 11:42, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Is the Daily Mail in this case a 'reliable source'? Since it doesn't fit at all with what is written in the book or what Ibrahimovic is saying in every interview, the answer has to be no. I have never read or heard an reliable source claiming that his version isn't correct, and I think I'm never gonna see it, either. Ongoing vandalism by a sockpuppet on the Football Records in Spain page
[edit]Hello Sir,
Kindly take a look at the disruptive editing of the user "2001:620:d:4ad2::323" who is removing sourced material after a consensus has been reached. Also take a look at his user history on Wikipedia where I have found him removing sourced material at will.
The "dispute" is ongoing on this Wikipedia page below:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Football_records_in_Spain&action=history
Here for instance he has removed correct sourced information for no reason that I had to correct.

Here is his user history.

He is a sockpuppet moreover. It obvious that he is a RM fan hellbent on disrupting data/information about FCB.
Please contact a moderator and help me spread the word.
Thanks in advance.

Hey there, you edits Ronaldo is "one of the greatest players" but actually he is "the greatest player" often considered by many football experts and great players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zico, Zinedine Zidane and many more. Everybody's idol was Ronaldo. As you also edited that he is "one of the greatest strikers" but he is probably "the best striker" ever been said by the greatest football players Pelè and Diego Maradona. He is often considered as the greatest football player of all time by many experts. So you should keep the right thing. Go to some references and see those, although I am a new user of Wikipedia but I've the knowledge of these kinds of editing :). ARNAB22 (talk) 09:15, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Your use of overflow-x:auto;
[edit]There are multiple issues with this property. Double scroll bars in naive implementations confuse users. Poor indication of scroll content. Users with low resolution of 1024x600 (Netbook, about 1010x520 viewable) are unable to read the first line of content and scroll simultaneously (no tilt scroll wheel). This is the case with:
- Kaká 655px tall
- Ronaldinho 806px tall
- Tony Scott 833px and 768px tall
- Pelé 669px tall
Which are taller than a Netbook's resolution. And the same problems extend to low vision users. So you need a better explanation than the vague "Overflow: article text unreadable". If its a personal preference issue, write a user script. — Dispenser 04:49, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
