Blasket_Harbour

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blasket_Harbour.jpg

My name happens to be Tom Keane. I traveled to this exact spot in 1984, and we wandered down from the car to chat with the fishermen there and I turned and saw my name on the wall. I asked them about it, and they said it was for their mate, who had died at sea. I don't know when - obviously pre 1984.

Thanks for the memory jolt.

By the way, there are literally hundreds of chaps named Tom Keane in Ireland; where I live in the Boston area there are about a dozen at last count.

I have just returned (check my contributions). I haven't gotten round to removing it yet and am just seeing to that which requires some attention. --candlewicke 20:55, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

DYK for The Gay Byrne Show

Updated DYK query On August 10, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Gay Byrne Show, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

The show

Aha yes. Well done on seeing that. Hopefully it hasn't happened too often. --candlewicke 21:38, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

By the way, have you much interest in that show? I found mine to be minimal but I always end up feeling I have to finish what I start. Now it has returned to haunt me again... --candlewicke 21:43, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
For how long? You must come close to malfunctioning at some stage. --candlewicke 22:14, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh no... I hope the new Susan Boyle has enough international fans as I may pass on that one. Can I "programme" you to produce any more DYKable ideas? --candlewicke 23:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
You're right. The rest are so non-notable that they're probably not worth bothering with... :) looks like we'll have to look elsewhere. By the way, do you mind posting me an "On 10 August 2009, In the news was updated with a news item that involved the article X, which you recently X. If you know of another interesting news item involving a recently created or updated article, then please suggest it on the In the news candidates page." The Xs would be my updates to Foreign relations of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Foreign relations of Rwanda and am not sure if I feel more cheap adding it myself or going around asking someone else to add it or if I should even be concerned about it anyway. --candlewicke 13:44, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
OK, thank you very much. --candlewicke 14:56, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
That should be DYKable. I have not much interest in boxing either but a lack of interest hasn't stopped me before. ;) --candlewicke 15:12, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Looks like one of them has been knocked out already. --candlewicke 03:27, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
It should be OK. I will look at it in more detail later. --candlewicke 14:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Re

thanks. but no need to feel sorry for me lol. been doing this for long time :) -- Ashish-g55 15:58, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Souza

Done. --candlewicke 03:39, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

OK. Unless someone objects. --candlewicke 18:05, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
This is also looming meaning lots of new sources to add to the old ones which aren't already there. :) I wonder if we can do something with it? Maybe we can do individual years (at least for some of the recent years before boredom sets in and the next topic comes along). Or maybe we can leave it for somebody else to do (alas that philosophy never seems to work). I also see the next season of work has just been delivered. :P So much to do, so few to do it, so little time... --candlewicke 18:26, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Hopefully Brazil can sort out the rest of its own television articles. It's quite enough to be looking after one small country's worth. :) --candlewicke 18:40, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
I did it before I replied. :) --candlewicke 19:26, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
How do you mean? Why? --candlewicke 20:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Aren't you autoconfirmed? --candlewicke 21:39, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah yes, I neglected the fact that you created it. :) Sorry about that. --candlewicke 21:49, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Not too sure what this reply means. It doesn't seem to make sense. --candlewicke 22:11, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Coming soon

To a TV screen near you. August 20. Rated X. --candlewicke 00:51, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Or perhaps one of the leftovers from this newly created specimen? --candlewicke 14:06, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Incivility allegation

I await an explanation of how my comments at Wikipedia:In the news section on the Main Page/Candidates#ITN candidates for August 13 were uncivil. Thank you. —David Levy 12:04, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Re:Work

Agh. But what exactly, I just don't have time to read all that. :) --candlewicke 23:34, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I can see how it might be considered badly phrased. However, there is no harm in placing the source on the talk page in the hope that someone might find it useful. --candlewicke 17:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey!

Hi Cargoking, I have been a little tied down with regular stuff... but am reasonably active in the cricket forum. Will surely reach out for help, and indeed, the page you designed to guide me, was of great help.Godof86 (talk) 02:30, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Miriam

She's giving more interviews now if you can make any use of them. :) --candlewicke 00:32, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

If it can reach 1500 characters and is there anything interesting at all about it? I nearly fell asleep reading it until I got to "I don't really like talking about myself, I'm quite self-conscious" and then I had to check if there was a misprint. --candlewicke 00:50, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Do you like/edit lyric fm? "Aodán Ó' Dubhghaill (Head of RTÉ's Lyric FM) and I met one night in the National Concert Hall and it started that casually." Good source for Ó' Dubhghaill if you're interested. --candlewicke 02:05, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
And this: "As a result Aodán (Ó' Dubhghaill Head of RTÉ's Lyric FM) and Claire Duignan (Managing Director of RTÉ Radio) decided to go with it" for radioheads. --candlewicke 03:25, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello Cargoking. I'm afraid I have removed this DYK hook from the main page, as I am concerned that it does not meet the selection criteria. I've started a thread on the matter at Wikipedia_talk:DYK#Wallace_Souza which I invite you to join. Regards,  Skomorokh  17:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Account creation system

Cargoking, thank you for your interest in helping users creating accounts. Your request has been approved. I advise you to read WP:ACCG before you use the system.

At this time, you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day. You won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user. However, if you have reached the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:RPE.

Again, thanks for your interest in the account creation system. Join us on IRC at wikipedia-en-accounts and subscribe to the mailing list by going here. Willking1979 (talk) 14:31, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

RTE News

I reverted to an earlier version from April ( and then reintroduced the info box ) but didn't have time to reintroduce other elements because there was a fair bit of the article that was gibberish .Look here [1] and see the differences Garda40 (talk) 18:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

itn newbies

its amazing how many people showed up today to show their support and they all act like they know the rules or ITN guidelines. i wonder if any of em will come back when some british MP or someone dies. -- Ashish-g55 18:55, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

The death of a normal senator from the USA or an MP from the UK or any other country would not make international headlines the way Senator Kennedys has. This is about as notable (some would say more notable) than M Jacksons death. It really was offensive to many people that it was not on the news page already, especially when you look at some of the things approved such as Miss Universe competition. BritishWatcher (talk) 21:45, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
As I said elsewhere, when a project or group of editors get something this profoundly wrong, I would hope a significant number of "newbies" come round to shake some sense into the regulars. RxS (talk) 22:18, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes Ted was notable. He was a great man. Thank you to all you gave me constructive criticism. Maybe I should freshen up a bit. I do unreservedly admit that this made world headlines. And now, thinking back, I am glad that he got to the main page.  Cargoking  talk  22:31, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
I like your good attitude, and aspire to be more like you when it comes to accepting constructive criticism! — Kralizec! (talk) 23:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Collect a t-shirt

Are you in Dublin (or at least near there 25–27 September)? If so you might like to read this and then this which I have recently received on my talk page. I wonder if someone could collect it and spread it... --candlewicke 22:45, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Really, I didn't think anyone would notice. I might have put more effort into the other cities had I known. They never bother viewing when I provide a more detailed article(!) :-D Oh, we must get that t-shirt! Think of where it could visit (no, not the damned Guinness brewery!) :D --candlewicke 19:40, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
I don't know. It just sounds fun and if it's going everywhere else... :) --candlewicke 00:20, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
