Images and other things
[edit]Hello, Caracas 2000.
- "This images are part of the collection of the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation, they were published in a 1999 album of venezuelan aguinaldos of the XIX century, the publication of this images is legal, because are historic photos in Venezuela, promotional, and in the cd they don´t say the coypright status, i think they we can publish this photos in Wikipedia."
I assume you are talking about Image:Orfeón Lamas .jpg and Image:Orfeón Lamas 2.jpg. The image description pages for these images do specify that the source was a CD. However, there is no information about who the photographer is, when the photographs were taken, when they were published, or who the copyright holder is. We cannot assume that they are not under copyright protection just because there is no copyright notice. Copyright protection is automatic; no explicit notice is necessary.
These images currently state that they are licensed under the GFDL, but there is absolutely no evidence given that the copyright holder has licensed them this way. If you have evidence that they are indeed licensed under the GFDL, please provide this evidence on the image description pages, and write an explanation at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images under the appropriate entries.
We must assume that these photographs are under copyright protection unless we have some good evidence to the contrary. Since they are under copyright protection, they must be freely licensed by the copyright holder (under the GFDL, for example), or we must use them here under a claim of fair use. In order to use them under a fair-use claim, the images must meet all ten requirements of the Wikipedia fair-use policy.
If you update the source or licensing information for these images, please make a note about your changes at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images.
If you are not GJRFMorelligu, then I am sorry for the accusation. I know that Mr. Morelligu has at least two accounts on Wikipedia and is currently blocked from editing, so when you appeared after he was blocked and began to edit the same things he was working on, it aroused my suspicions. Please accept my apologies.
Let me know if I can help you or if you have any questions. —Bkell (talk) 21:22, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello Bkell
[edit]I upload this image, Image:Image-Feb, 8, 1960.jpg, can you check if i put a good source to it.
Caracas 2000
Caracas 2000 23:09, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the source is fine. However, this image is copyrighted, and you are using it under a claim of fair use. Please read the fair-use counterexamples, especially number 7, which says that using magazine covers to illustrate an article about the person on the cover is not fair use. So this image will probably have to be deleted from Wikipedia. Let me know if you have any questions. —Bkell (talk) 20:18, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Image:Image-Feb, 8, 1960.jpg listed for deletion
[edit]Orfeon Lamas photos
[edit]I buy the cd of Aguinaldos Tradicionales, in that cd are that images, and they don´t say the source, they only say that, the pictures of the cd are part of the archive of the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation, and that they published them in many albums.
- The reason that Wikipedia needs the source of images is so that we can identify the copyright holder. In this case, the copyright holder is probably the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation, if that is the credit the CD gives. When you give the source of these images, say that they were scanned from an album, and make sure you say that they are credited to the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation. Remember that these images can be used on Wikipedia only under a fair-use claim, unless the copyright holder agrees to release the images under a free license. And unless you are using the images to illustrate the CD itself, an {{albumcover}} tag is not appropriate, because fair-use tags need to apply to how the images are being used, not where they came from.
- Also, please remember to sign your name with
~~~~
when you leave messages on talk pages. —Bkell (talk) 23:11, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- What tag or source can i put, for the images of the orfeon lamas.
- That is the only information that they say in the cd.
- Caracas 2000 23:19, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- For the source, you need to indicate the copyright holder. As I said, the copyright holder for these images seems to be the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation, if that's what the credits say in the CD. So for the source, just say that you scanned the images from an album, and that the album credits them to the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation.
- Now, these images are copyrighted, so unless you know that the copyright holder has released them under a free license, we can use them here only under a fair-use claim. Which fair-use tag you use depends on how you are going to use the image. I can't tell you which tag is appropriate without knowing how you plan to use these images. —Bkell (talk) 23:27, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think that the user that put the image plan to illustrate the article because these are the photos of this group.
- Caracas 2000 23:30, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Which image? Which article?
- By the way, you can reply on this talk page, as I am doing. There is no need to continue to create new sections on my talk page for this conversation. Click on the "[edit]" link next to the section heading that says "Orfeon Lamas photos" to edit just this section of the page. —Bkell (talk) 23:35, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok
[edit]What can i do for that photos, can you give me an advice The images and the arcticle of the Orfeon Lamas
Caracas 2000 23:37, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Okay. The biggest problem with these images is that they are currently tagged with a GFDL tag, but there is no evidence that the copyright holder (apparently the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation) has released the image under the GFDL. So we are claiming that this image is free for anyone to use for any purpose (because that's what the GFDL means), but it's probably not.
- We must assume that the image is copyrighted and unlicensed, because we have no evidence to the contrary. So we can use these images on Wikipedia only under a fair-use claim. The first step is to determine whether these images meet all ten points of the Wikipedia fair-use policy. Carefully read all ten of these criteria. If you believe that the use of these images in the Orfeon Lamas article meets all ten, then you should use a fair-use tag.
- There is a list of all fair-use tags at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Choose a fair-use tag based on how the image will be used, not on where it came from. You are using these photographs to illustrate a musical group. There does not appear to be a specific tag for this, so you will probably need to use
{{Fair use in|Orfeon Lamas}}
. - If you use this tag, you must also write a fair-use rationale, which explains why the use of the image in the Orfeon Lamas article meets all ten points of the Wikipedia fair-use policy. Particularly important in this case are point 1 ("No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information") and point 8 ("The material must contribute significantly to the article…and must not serve a purely decorative purpose"). —Bkell (talk) 00:00, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
WikiProject Albums conventions
[edit]Hey, it's not a huge thing, but I just edited a few album pages where you were the only user in the history log. You may want to see how I edited "your" pages (check my contributions or see the articles that you modified in the last day or two). Specifically, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums, track names should be in quotes, and track numbers should use the # symbol. Otherwise, keep plugging away at all that Latin music. Keep up the good work.--Fisherjs 23:42, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Also, that page has a handy guide to the album infobox and a discussion of what categories should (and should not) go on an album page.--Fisherjs 17:26, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
User talk
[edit]I recheck the cd of the Orfeon Lamas, and they say that all that photos and tracks are part of the collection of the foundation, that the photos and music are presentations of this group in the 1940s and 1950s
Caracas 2000 23:48, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Can you remove the unfree image tag
- On what image? Image:Orfeón Lamas .jpg and Image:Orfeón Lamas 2.jpg are both still tagged as GFDL, which is almost certainly false. —Bkell (talk) 02:33, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Check that images of the Orfeon, i put another tag and a fair use rationale Caracas 2000 02:35, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Much better than before. The fair-use rationales are sparse, but at least we are not making false licensing claims. —Bkell (talk) 02:38, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
What other things can i put to the fair use of the images
Caracas 2000 02:41, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Please read Wikipedia:Image description page#Fair use rationale for a description of what a fair-use rationale should contain.
- Also, please stop adding sections to my user talk page. You do not have to click the "+" tab for everything you say, because the "+" tab starts an entirely new section. You can edit sections that already exist by clicking the "[edit]" link next to the section heading, and then you can add more comments at the end of the section. For example, to edit this section, click the "[edit]" link next to the big bold "User talk" heading. See Wikipedia:Sections#Section editing for more details. A single conversation, such as the one we are having, should be kept in a single section. —Bkell (talk) 02:47, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Image:Galeron 1.jpg
[edit]Hello again, Caracas 2000. I notice you've been inserting exactly the same fair-use rationale for many images. You are saying:
- No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information.
- The material must contribute significantly to the article, and must not serve a purely decorative purpose
- the photo is only being used for informational purposes.
But let's consider, for example, Image:Galeron 1.jpg. This image is being used in the article The Galerón. Here it is simply illustrating a celebration that happens every year. A free equivalent image could certainly be created for this; all you have to do is attend the celebration and take a photo. So your fair-use rationale doesn't make sense.
The idea of a fair-use rationale is that it must explain exactly why each use of the particular image qualifies as Wikipedia:Fair use. A specific fair-use rationale must be written for each and every image. You cannot simply paste the same rationale into all images.
Please let me know if you have any questions. You can just edit this section of your user page and add your comments below. —Bkell (talk) 04:36, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Image:The Parranda of San Pedro.gif
[edit]Hmm, Image:The Parranda of San Pedro.gif is interesting. I see that at the bottom of [1] it says, "Copyleft © 2005-2006, Algunos derechos reservados." But it doesn't say which rights are reserved. I can't find anything more detailed on the site anywhere, so I can't tell what license they are releasing their content under. This would probably be a good question to ask at Wikipedia talk:Copyrights/Can I use.... —Bkell (talk) 02:48, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Manzanares urbanization.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Manzanares urbanization.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:06, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Hello Bkell
[edit]I have a question, what tag can i put in a photo of the National Geographic Magazine, of August, 1976.
Caracas 2000 17:30, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- You probably can't use the image on Wikipedia at all. The image is almost certainly copyrighted and unlicensed, so it would have to meet the stringent criteria of the Wikipedia fair-use policy. Without knowing what the image is and how you plan to use it, I can't give you any better advice. —Bkell (talk) 16:43, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Caracas Pictures
[edit]I'm removing the two pictures you added to the Caracas article. The el hatillo one simply cannot be in wikipedia, it's copyrighted and used without permision from the author, it also contains a watermark which is not compatible with the wikipedia standards, if you want to use a picture of el Hatillo town in wikipedia please check the El_Hatillo_Municipality article and you'll find pretty good ones and all used under permision from the author, or you can simply go there if you live in caracas and take it, copyrighted images used without permision are only "acceptable" when it's almost imposible for someone to photograph the subject and it's extremely relevant to the encyclopedia for example Asociated Press pictures for recente relevant events. I would also like to point out that one picture representing the colonial architecture remaining in the city is enough, i don't think two images on the same subject should be in the main Caracas article, more detailed articles such as Petare and El_Hatillo_Municipality provide more pictures and information for those interested.
For the above reason i removed the Pico Oriental picture, while it is perfect for wikipedia, and a very good picture, i think oversaturating the article with pictures of the Cerro el Avila is too redundant, and since the article is about caracas i think Image:Altamira.JPG is more apropiate since it shows more city than the Image:PicoOriental.jpg which has a big plant leaf interrupting the picture and the roof of a house covering a considerable part of the composition.
Citing sources
[edit]Hi. Your contributions to Wikipedia are very well-done and comprehensive. I like what you have done with Baruta, it's really good, but unfortunately, you are not citing any of your sources. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources. Not only you would be letting readers verify what you have written, but you could make your contributions become good articles or featured articles. Referencing is very important in Wikipedia, it just takes a few extra minutes when you contribute, but it improves the reliability of the content significantly. --enano (Talk) 02:12, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Image:Rincón González.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Rincón González.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. - It's not a question of the tag; it's that it could be replaced with a free version. This is a public event, correct? Anybody could take pictures there. —Chowbok ☠ 21:00, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- If it's a rare event, then that's an argument worth making regarding replaceability. Be sure to say that in the talk page for the image. —Chowbok ☠ 22:32, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
El Hatillo map
[edit]Hi, I reverted your edit in El Hatillo Municipality because I had actually put the newer map on purpose. A user in Commons made an effort to make one map per Venezuelan municipality, and they all have a better quality than the one I made. You can see the maps in Category:Maps of municipalities of Venezuela. It would be a good idea to replace the Baruta and Chacao maps with the ones in Commons since they all look the same.--enano (Talk) 18:43, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Venezuelan musicians and categories
[edit]Hi there - You've been making various category changes to Venezuelan musicians recently, and I wanted to discuss the changes you've made. I'd like to draw your attention to the following:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Categorization sets out categorization guidelines for musicians. They should be categorized by nationality, instrument and genre. So a category such as "Category:Venezuelan classical violists" is perfectly appropriate, and Pedro Muñoz Saglimbeni should have been left in that category.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Categorization#Placing articles in the structure says that "Articles should be placed into as specific of a category as possible, always favor third-order over second, and second over first whenever the information is available. They should not be placed in a parent category and also one of it's sub categories, e.g., no placing an article in both Category:<N> <G>musicians and Category:<N> musicians, it's redundant." In other words, Pedro Muñoz Saglimbeni should not be in Category:Venezuelan musicians because he is in a sub-category of musicians - the same goes for Hugo Blanco who should also not be in Category:Venezuelan people, since musicians are a sub-category of people.
- Categories such as Category:Venezuelan violists by genre and Category:Venezuelan musicians by instrument are part of the appropriate category tree for Category:Venezuelan musicians and so should not be blanked. If you would like to see a more-or-less-complete "family tree" of musician categories, please look at Category:American musicians - a lot of articles need putting into categories, it is true, but the category tree is there waiting for this to happen.
- The template {{DEFAULTSORT:surname, first name}} is a perfectly proper way of organizing names in a category and saves having to type the person's name after every category. There was no need for you to undo this. Please see Help:Categories#Default sort key for confirmation of this.
Looking at your recent work, then, and in addition to the ones I've already mentioned, I'd disagree with your changes to Category:Venezuelan violists, Category:Venezuelan flautists, Fulgencio Aquino, Ignacio Figueredo, Category:Venezuelan harpists by genre, Fulgencio Aquino, Juan Vicente Torrealba, Humberto Bruni Lamanna, Edward Pulgar, and María Rivas (categorization).
Perhaps you could have a think about this and discuss this with me. I didn't want to revert your changes without a discussion, but at the moment I don't think that your changes are right. Best wishes, Bencherlite 22:19, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying. I agree that we want to make Wikipedia the best we can make it, which is why I suggest that we both follow the guidance that other people have laid down, which I have set out for you in my previous message. This means that we don't have to decide for ourselves what is the "best thing to do" as we can just follow decisions made by others. In fact, your changes don't help other people find Venezuelan musicians as easily as they can find similar musicians of other nations using the categories. For example, Category:Violists by nationality now doesn't have an entry for Venezuelan violists because of the changes you made - click on this category and see for yourself. Please think about this, and please undo the changes that you made. I don't think that your reasons for the changes are good enough. Best wishes, Bencherlite 00:29, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks again. However, if Category:American musicians should only contain sub-categories (see the message there) and as the guidelines referred to above say that people should not be in a parent-category and a sub-category, I disagree with your view that people should be in Category:Venezuelan musicians as well as in their instrument sub-categories. Do you want to undo your changes, or shall I? (I am going to bed now - but it can probably wait a bit if you're busy). Ha sido bueno hablar con usted - gracias y recuerdos (which I hope means "It has been good to talk with you - thanks and best wishes"!) Bencherlite 01:24, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Hello again. I've undone some of your changes to articles that you've been putting back in this category. As I explained before, this category should not be used when the person can be correctly categorized in a sub-category of it, e.g. Category:Venezuelan classical violinists. Specific guidance about categorizing musicians is given at WP:MUSCAT under this heading – Articles should be placed into as specific of a category as possible, always favor third-order over second, and second over first whenever the information is available. They should not be placed in a parent category and also one of it's sub categories, e.g., no placing an article in both Category:<N> <G>musicians and Category:<N> musicians, it's redundant. Putting people in Category:Venezuelan musicians and a sub-category also falls foul of the general Wikipedia guidance: WP:CAT#Some general guidelines #3: Articles should not usually be in both a category and its subcategory. Please discuss with me further if this is unclear. Also, in some of your edits, you got rid of {{DEFAULTSORT}}, probably by accident, but if you don't know what it does, I suggest you find out because it is very useful and removing it from an article causes problems. Unspecified source for Image:Augusto_image.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Augusto_image.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:47, 17 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 06:47, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Gerry Weil at Buenas Noches.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Gerry Weil at Buenas Noches.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
Orphaned non-free image (Image:Lorenzo Herrera..jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Lorenzo Herrera..jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:27, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Image tagging for Image:Desorden Público logo.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Desorden Público logo.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
License tagging for Image:Aguinaldos y Tradiciones.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Aguinaldos y Tradiciones.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
Image:Dos_Criollisimos_LP.jpg
[edit]I have tagged Image:Dos_Criollisimos_LP.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. Replaceable fair use Image:Colonial zone of La Guaira.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Colonial zone of La Guaira.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Non-free use disputed for Image:Pasajes_inmortales.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Pasajes_inmortales.jpg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 14:59, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Aldemaro Romero conductor.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Aldemaro Romero conductor.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
The following images also have this problem:
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Aldemaro Romero Orchestra.jpg}
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Aldemaro Romero Orchestra.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Speedy deletion of Image:Presidente Raimundo Andueza.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:Presidente Raimundo Andueza.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Presidente Raimundo Andueza.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. BJTalk 13:54, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Presidentes de Venezuela y José Gil Fortoul
[edit]Hola Caracas 2000, antes que nada quisiera darte las gracias y felicitarte por tu trabajo ayudando a que los artículos venezolanos sigan creciendo en ésta Wikipedia, ademas de ello quisiera pedirte tu ayuda para seguir ampliando artículos como el de Santiago Mariño , o el de Pedro Gual por solo nombrar algunos; porque son muy básicos y nada comparables con otros artículos de nuestros próceres y presidentes (como el de José Gil Fortoul o el de Bolívar por ejemplo). Avisame.
Gracias de antemano...I€₣ (talk) 06:44, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, me parece una buena idea eso de trabajar juntos, acerca de Mariño a mi me parece que si debería considerarse porque a pesar de ser por escaso tiempo (18 dias para ser mas exacto), fue el jefe del gobierno y era el que comandaba el país hasta que Páez y su ejercito lograron derrocarlo. Image copyright problem with Image:José Luis Rodríguez album.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:José Luis Rodríguez album.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Speedy deletion of Manuel Vicente Romerogarcía
[edit]A tag has been placed on Manuel Vicente Romerogarcía requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. Replaceable fair use Image:St. John the Baptist celebration.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:St. John the Baptist celebration.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 19:41, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Buenos Aires Llaneros.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Buenos Aires Llaneros.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 22:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Santiago Mariño
[edit]Hi! I am writing to see if we can't work through our obvious disagreements about the status of Santiago Mariño and I certainly don't want to get in an edit war with you.
As far as I can see, Mariño briefly took power in a military coup and, therefore, took on the position and power of President, even though it might have seemed illegitimate to others. Unfortunately, as you know, this has been an all too common event in many countries, but even though the position is seized rather than won through the ballot box, the victor is usually considered to be "President." Is there, perhaps, some historical reason why this title should not be accorded to Santiago Mariño even though it is accepted for many other dictators? It is true that my knowledge of Hispanic-American history is rather poor these days as it is some 40 years since I studied it, and I don't have many references to hand - so perhaps I am missing something obvious - in which case I would be grateful if you could let me know what the problem is so I don't make a fool of myself. Any other suggestions you might have as to how we could resolve this difference amicably and/or make the article a better one would also be much appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, John Hill (talk) 09:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Santiago Mariño biography
[edit]Hi again! Thanks for your prompt note and clarification. I did not realise that Mariño "never took the head of the executive" which, if this is the case, makes it fair enough not to refer to him as a "president". I guess I had assumed too much: that if had seized power he would automatically be considered "head of the executive." I was really working from my memories from my youth in Trinidad (as I had no detailed sources available any more, having lost most of my old books during my many peregrinations) where we were taught to view Mariño as a great hero who launched his revolution from Trinidad with a handful of men and ended up becoming President of Venezuela. Ah well, history is often slanted! So, I thought I should let you know that I am happy to leave the article as you have edited it, with a "Military Man" Infobox. Thanks for your assistance here. Cheers, John Hill (talk) 01:56, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Good morning! Well, it is a beautiful morning here now in the bush of Cape York Peninsula in far northern Queensland. I am sitting in bed with a cup of coffee looking out on our garden (we have almost no walls) where there is a mother wallaby and her joey eating our well-watered grass not more than 10 or 12 feet away, and I've just seen a pair of scrub hens strut by chattering to each other like an elderly couple and then I opened my computer and found your friendly note! Well, it is wonderful to be in paradise!
- My interest in Mariño began when a band based on his invasion of Venezuela was part of the Carnival in Trinidad in the early or mid 1950s!! So I have been aware of him for a long time now! I was a kid then, and two of my close friends, children of Venezuelan refugees from the dreadful military dictatorship of Jimenez, were in the band.
- I would love to get the list of Venezuelan "presidents" straightened out but, unfortunately, I am a long way from libraries where I might be able to check out such things. (I live over 300 km from the nearest traffic lights). So, I will have to leave it all up to you and others on the Venezuelan Wiki group. Good luck with it all! Cheers from Down Under! Speedy deletion nomination of File:Pérez Vivas 1.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Pérez Vivas 1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of Citizens branch of the Government of Venezuela
This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
Orphaned non-free image (File:Gran Coquivacia logo.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Gran Coquivacia logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 19:47, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Gran Coquivacia logo.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Gran Coquivacia logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Fair use rationale for File:Renny Ottolina.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Renny Ottolina.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:22, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Carrizal Municipality (Venezuela), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Carrizal Municipality. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally moving or duplicating content, please be sure you have followed the procedure at Wikipedia:Splitting by acknowledging the duplication of material in edit summary to preserve attribution history.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 17:41, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Laureano Márquez
[edit]You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
A tag has been placed on Laureano Márquez requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. V. Joe (talk) 07:49, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Laureano Márquez
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Laureano Márquez. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Laureano Márquez. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Y no podemos hacer nada, ya que como son unos perfectos IMBÉCILES, vagos, desempleados, inútiles, etc., tienen todo el tiempo del mundo para JODER, dañar, y acusarnos de "violar copyrights", "violar las (estúpidas) políticas de la Wikipedia", escribir artículos "no notables", etc. Yo me aburrí y termine mandándolos para la mierda: sencillamente no pienso contribuir más con esta vaina. Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Caracas 2000! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 331 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- José Enrique Sarabia - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Oscar Yanes - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
Thanks for the work you do in maintaining this article. Please be aware that our policies on "non-free" content require that we only use free images in list articles. I've removed a couple of those which you added to the article on those grounds. (ESkog)(Talk) 16:24, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
- Once again, please stop adding non-free content to list articles. If you have any confusion about this policy, please ask me on my Talk page - do not revert again. (ESkog)(Talk) 13:48, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Gerry Weil, Buenas Noches.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Gerry Weil, Buenas Noches.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 14:17, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Raul Borges.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Raul Borges.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 14:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Carátulas y portadas 14.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Carátulas y portadas 14.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Presi Velasquez.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Presi Velasquez.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Connormah 19:43, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Carlos Ocariz. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. The article Pompeyo Márquez has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Kudpung (talk) 04:36, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with File:Caldera en los años 90.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Caldera en los años 90.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
