Hippo

[edit]

I recieved a message from somebody asking whether I could contribute some references to the hippo article and I lost it already. I have no computer skills. Can you please retrieve the message for me or tell me who the person was? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:44, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heterozygous Tiger

[edit]

What they're talking about is called a "golden tabby tiger." Not all heterozygous tigers look like this. I think that's what they're talking about. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 16:11, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heterozygous Tiger

[edit]

I wrote a few lines about golden tabby tigers in the stripeless white tiger section of the white tiger article a while back, which are still there. That's all I know about them. I know it was JayHenry who contacted me about the hippos, but I can't figure out how to leave a message for him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 16:19, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Francis Blanchard page

[edit]

Hello there, I am wondering why you keep deleting my entry of Francis Blanchard. I would appreciate if you tell me the reason.Do you think I am infringing copyright of this page ? (http://www.ilo.org/public/english/bureau/dgo/staff/formers/blanchard.htm)

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tsagaan (talkcontribs) 09:14, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heterozygous Tiger

[edit]

Thanks for the message. If by Heterozygous Tiger they don't mean golden tabby then I think it's confusing. On the white tiger article the term heterozygous is used in reference to the white gene only, but the same tigers would be both heterozygous for millions of other genes and also homozygous for millions. To give an example Queen Victoria was heterozygous for the gene for hemophilia. She was'nt a hemophiliac, but she carried the recessive gene. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:21, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JayHenry

[edit]

I have gone to his user page and tried clicking on discussion and talk in blue, but I can't figure out how to leave a message. Will you please tell him if I can help with the hippopotamus article I'd be happy to. Does he know I added to the reference sections of pygmy hippopotamus and Billy (pygmy hippoptamus) already? Sorry for the bother. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:30, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heterozygous Tiger

[edit]

I wrote about heterozygous tigers being larger than average, like white tigers, in the white tiger article. The source was Kailash Sankhala's book Tiger ! 1977. The complete bibliographical reference is in the white tiger bibliography, including the publisher. He never uses the term "heterozygous" or heterozygote in his book. Neither does Sara Iversin in her 1982 article, but she talks about heterozygous tigers, like Kanchana. Both of Thornton's Journal of Zoology articles from 1967 and 1978 could be used as references for the Heterozygous Tiger article. I was reading the "Golden Tabby Tiger" article. It says their coloration is due to a separate gene, but I'm sure this is false. The golden tabby tiger coloration results from the interaction of the white and orange gene, and they are a form of heterozygous tiger. Both the golden tabby tiger and the stripeless white tiger appeared more or less simultaneously in the early 1980s out of the white strains. Golden tabby tigers are often born in litters with white tigers. I am convinced that the golden tabby results from the combination of a stripeless white gene and an orange gene. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 16:25, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Region of Nunavut

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you place the Ottawa Islands in a specific region. here is your edit. Could you please tell me where we could find information which says specifically the Ottawa Islands are part of that region. I looked at the article Qikiqtaaluk Region and it's references and couldn't find anything to substantiate. --CyclePat 07:06, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your answer. The reason I ask you that is because of reference #1 from the Ottawa Islands which says Standard Geographical Classification Volume II: Reference Maps (SGC 2006). Online database: Map Series: Census Division - Census Subdivision. Geography: 23. Nunavut (9.9 MB). Map "Nunavut". Statistics Canada, Ottawa, 2007. Accessed 05-11-2007. Note: This information is based on the analysis of primary information provided within the map and is supported by secondary information in reference #2 (NRCAN). Reference #2 clearly states that the location of Ottawa Islands is within Nunavut. By cross referencing with NRCAN it is possible to conclude that Ottawa Islands is not only part of Nunavut but of Census Division #4 or Baffin Region, Nunavut. This, may or may not contradict your inference. Are census divisions different compared to regions? --CyclePat 06:50, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sabah Wildlife Department

[edit]

while trying to understand an edit of user Tabdulla I accidentally noticed your deletion of Sabah Wildlife Department. The reason was (Prod:lack of notability).

As a reader (sic!), I'm interested in some info on legal institutions in some distant countries. Accidentally - I do know something of the wild life in Sabah, and even thought about a trip to there. I don't sure about this case... SWD (I confused it first with an other organisation, research one, which i intended to defend here:)) as i see at 1st glance - is primary licensing-permitting (and may be sometimes research) government organisation. My intended objection was that i came across the name twice last year, reading popular geographic magazine and watching TV (being far away from Borneo)... but now i examined... i confused it:) So i do not sure that SWD deserves being here.

But i remember where i saw your name 1st time. The article on Eureka or some other Ellesmere station... with a few ppl staff. Thats why i'm leaving this note:) Else i would pass... Well, I'm Russian, not Canadian. But still was interesred in those stations for some (silly) reason.

So, please. Be carefully, what is distant country for us - is home country for somevody else (Tabdulla?). How do you think - do US/Candian/UK gov.institutions deserve coverage on WP? I'm sure, Wiki (it's main difference between WP and any paper pedia) won't get 'too big' because of 'too many' articles. And there some topics, may be, for which it's best to write short description, history and the link rather then a huge text, but which are still deserving separate header? http://www.sabah.gov.my/jhl/ - SWD http://www.vokrugsveta.ru/img/cmn/2006/11/28/049.jpg - just forest in the state of Sabah:) --83.237.27.0 16:52, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clue you in, there is an edit war going on over what the last airdate of the original runs is. The correct date is May 11, 2007, the date the last episode aired for the first time. Can we get this page back as there are so man schools on Wiki and I cannot see why we are the only ones targeted. Here is a list for you. Please delete all of them or put us back up. 1. Internationalised Curriculum

[edit]

We read the above discussion and remain confused as to what everyone was looking at as we saw:-

  1. added notability-proving articles on the site
  2. Following the article we also note how the so-determined 'advertising aspect' was removed even to the extent that the school mentioned as the first site of implenmentation was removed from the article though we feel that was strange as it was the first school comminssioned to run the curriculum
  3. One user we note who was blocked by one of your "editors" because he put up a series of article links to support the Internationalised Curriculum area. This was clearly ignored as the resource that it was and the user was simply cut off - consensus?

Was no one looking at all this or was that improvement effort secondary to consensus on deletions? I note with some dissppointement the 'stars' editors proudly display on their talk pages showing how prolific they are in Deleting or Stopping Spammers etc smacks of the BoyScouts not serious international responsibilty of editing a serious work such as Wikipedia and certainly not in the Wikipedia spirit I would have thought at all. At least not consistent ewith the little comments that pop up on the top on my Wiki screen.

2. Praht Thai School

[edit]

Well how did this get so out of control??? Praht Thai is a school just like:

List of schools in Thailand 42 of these listed schools (blue links) have Wiki Pages.....how so different?....no notability or anything like we are being asked to provide

These are all happily listed with articles all beautifully left in peace...so why the Praht Thai Target??? Will these now be all summarily deleted or will Praht Thai SchoolItalic text be allowed back up?

It cannot be sensible that the prime reason for agreeing to delete an article is that someone had deleted it before and then it was reposted. What? Did someone take offense to the repost of a legitinmate article and dig their editing heels in? But alals I see from the above that it is the main reason for deletion...."someone had previously deleted it and look the naughty people put it back...how dare they!"

Oh, and please stop quoting Wikipedia guidleines...they are followed only when justifying a negative action. No reasonableness ensures - discussions on this site have lasted 1 hour and been by one or two editors only - see the Praht Thai Schools Disccussion page...which is where it is supposed to be discussed.....I only just found this page here thanks to a courteous editor who let us know about it.

By the way I have read many of the home pages of the editors who eem to have targeted our site and I must say juvenile opinion abounds in many. One "editor" even stated that including of a certain information type was not to be tolerated calling it "bollocks" - so it seems his view takes precedence over consensus - well why not I believe he was almost 22 years old and so I guess is the holder of the key of knowledge and understanding.

Please help me understand this attitude before we totally give up on Wikipedia as a resource worth considering any further. Are we frustrated - you can bet we are. Can we resolve this ....or will someone simply block our account now that we speak our mind? PTSch (talk) 09:39, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your reversion of Rush Limbaugh

[edit]

My edit was to move a section down to the appropriate place in the chronology. I think that it originally got reverted because someone vandalised the page after my edit, and then someone using popups rolled back too far. (It has happened elsewhere too.) I keep trying to tell folks to check very carefully before reverting. Whether you agree with the edit or not, I can't say. But common Wikipedia courtesy requires the use of an edit summary when the reversion is not for simple vandalism. Cheers, 71.182.215.210 (talk) 13:25, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was trying to change one of the references in the white tiger article, the second one, from one source to another. I think I messed it up. Will you please take a look and fix it? white tiger

[edit]

Yes that's where I messed it up. There's a sentence and a reference missing when I look at the article which are still there if I go into the edting section. I just discovered messages you've left for me previously which I did'nt see before today. Sorry about that. For the part in the white tiger article where it says (India imposed an export ban) the reference could be (Gee, E.P., 1964 The White Tigers, Animals 3:282-286) or (Gee, E.P., The Wildlife Of India, London: Collins 1964) or (White tiger exports banned, India, NY Times D. 4, 1960 12:2), and Clyde Beatty also mentions the ban in his book. All these references are in the bibliography. Will you look at the messages I left for JayHenry under (Sumatran rhinoceros & white tiger), and also (BigCatRescue), where I explain why I don't think that BigCatRescue or Daniel C. Laughlin's article The White Tiger Fraud are good or credible sources for the wikipedia article. This key board won't let me make a question mark or quotation marks. I also only just got your message about the Crandon Park Zoo. Thanks. I was just going to add a reference to the white gorilla article when I got your messages. White Tiger

[edit]

I have been trying to improve the white tiger article. I noticed that somebody changed the way I spelled "Indo-Chinese tiger" to "Indochinese tiger", and created a link to the Indochinese tiger wikipedia article. The link does'nt work unless it's spelled Indochinese tiger, but I'm sure that Indo-Chinese tiger is the correct spelling. I checked it in the Oxford dictionary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 18:34, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Created Indo-Chinese Tiger as a redirect. If that is indeed the correct way to format/spell it, it probably should be put up as a proposed move. If its just an alternative spelling, leaving as a redirect is fine... Reedy Boy 19:13, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you did'nt get the point. I'm doing it only for pages which are a copy from META.

In some pages like Help:Page name‎ you can see a template like this:

{{H:h_Help|Page name}}

In these pages, if you put inter-wikipedia links - they will be lost on next synchronization. To help them remain in place, there are some templates and macros.

Try to have a look at the call to {{h:f}} in last lines of Help:Page name‎.

You can see a line like this

{{h:f|langs=|enname=Page name}}

This will call Template:Ph:Page name‎ where you should put inter-wikipedia links and keep them safe from next synchronization of the meta page copy.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you need more explanation.Ammar 11:42, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That is weird.. In my bookmarks, it's .net! I imagine they had .ca at one time, then it was changed to .com? When I add links to pages, I check the page and copy the url from the bar, so it had to be .ca at one point. I have no idea why they might have given up that url. Thanks for noticing it though. :) vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 16:07, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I checked http://www.archive.org, it has history of .com back to 2004, but when you click it, it redirects to the .net version. Typing .com into the bar or using the link on the article page doesn't do that, though. .net has the more page update information than .com. It doesn't seem to have the .ca site's history. vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 16:12, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Source of reference for SOMALILAND

[edit]

Dear Sir

Im somewhat surprised that the information on “Somaliland” is allowed on this site as it is FACTUALLY false. There is no recognised such country, Somaliland is a clandestine group of people namely the Isaq clan who have been inciting clan conflict in the north of Somalia in attempt for recognition. Oct 15th saw another attack on the civilian city of Las Canod causing 90k IDP's reported by the likes of Unicef etc.

Puntland is not a country either but a state of Somalia (such as Texas is to the US). Im happy to pass this information to the Somali authorities in order that this site remains a source of information and not a tool for clan warlord propaganda.

Im not entirely sure how your site determines what is a personal opinion and what is factual as it would seem the personal opinion of war lords is taken as fact in this instance. Please advice me on how to ensure this deliberate misinformation is made visible to the appropriate —Preceding unsigned comment added by SomaliVoice (talkcontribs) 01:29, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CambridgeBayWeather, i think the Emirates Airline page looks really good and most information has been placed into other pages. But i think it is time we removed the clean up template, since the page does't need it anymore. Deletion of Mapepire Balsain

[edit]

Why you deleted that redirect despite the fact that the CSD was contested? Guettarda (talk) 02:24, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't delete it a second time? How gracious of you. But why do you delete active discussions contesting a CSD? The deletion rationale was nonsense - it wasn't a new page, and quite frankly, one of the reasons we have redirects is to capture alternate capitalisation. What difference does a search box use (does anyone actually use Wikipedia's crappy search engine?) when Mapepire Balsain is a red link? Red links don't lead to search boxes, or have you not noticed?
And since when do you delete active discussions without explanation? Guettarda (talk) 04:28, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you did the page move of Cornwallis Island (Nunavut), your edit summary suggested that you were unsure of why this was required. It was required per WP:MOS, naming conventions for duplicate island names. The person who first did this move did so by copying and pasting, and redirecting the original page, hence the need for cleanup to preserve the edit history. He has done the same thing with Egg Island (Bahamas) and Cockburn Island (Antarctica)‎, both of which are still tagged CSD G6. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 03:11, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nibras23 inserted a couple of lines into the white tiger article about a member of the rock band Linkin Park killing a white tiger, and being gay. I deleted it. I could'nt find any evidence on the internet that a member of Linkin Park has killed a white tiger and as for whether he's gay-why put that into an article about white tigers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:36, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello As component of our capstone to earn our B.S. in sociology, my class and I have created a Wikipedia entry for the American Dream from a sociological perspective. You reverted it to the original and said you didnt know what happened to it. It came out a little funky when we tried transferring it from WikiSpaces to here but we are working on it. I just wanted to let you know what we are doing. I didnt want you thinking that were going back and forth putting up our stuff. Its an assaignment that a group of us are required to work on. My Chemical Romance/Buzznet

[edit]

Hi there. You deleted my addition of the My Chemical Romance Buzznet community link as well as a few others. Could you please explain why MySpace links are allowed to remain while Buzznet ones are not? We work with the artists, their managers and their record companies directly and have forums, interviews and media that is not available elsewhere. I've had this discussion with other people who have removed my links and they have allowed them to stay. I only put up links to communities that have exclusive content. Our MCR one happens to be the biggest on the web. You marked the link as spam and that felt a bit rash. Could you please reconsider? Should I be explaining all of this in the edit summary? Would that have made a difference? Thanks for reading. Smogqueen (talk) 04:39, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So...are you ok with putting those links back up? I noticed that you took them down on several bands/individual musician pages. I don't want to put them back up myself just to have you take them down again. I appreciate your feedback and will do my best to explain better in the future. Re: Infobox Airport and "none" in IATA code

[edit]

There isn't any particular reason I changed those infoboxes from "IATA=" to "IATA=none". The program I wrote to generate infoboxes for U.S. airports puts "none" in there. Then I just manually copy any differences from the existing infobox before replacing it with the new one. I should probably leave those fields blank or remove them, since I do prefer the look of the automatically generated none in italics. Thanks for pointing that out. -- Zyxw (talk) 15:37, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have been removing flag icons that were added to airlines to this airport and User:Cdeujm keeps adding it back saying that the flag icons make the article look better. I noticed that you removed the flag icons not too long ago that were added to this airport. Can you send a message to User:Cdeujm telling him about flag in airport articles. I was going to message him about it but he will disagree with me. Thanks! Bucs2004 (talk) 17:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was more vandalism on the white tiger article which was done on 10, Dec., and was promptly repaired on the same date. The vandal left the words "hi it's rhys" in place of a deleted section. Re: Google Earth again

[edit]

In response to your message at User talk:Zyxw #Google earth again:

Thanks for the info. It appears the Google Earth team fixed that bug in their coding, since coordinates assigned to an infobox parameter named "coordinates" (as is the case in the articles you mentioned) were supposed to be accepted by Google Earth regardless of whether the {{coord}} template used "display=inline" or "display=title". -- Zyxw (talk) 15:24, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you very much for that. Is it possible it could have been routed through another computer in a different country because I know a Rhys? Also I think the last time the same section(s) were deleted it was also coincidentally from Aukland, New Zealand, but I think it was done from a university by someone with a user name on that occasion. Thanks again. Sincerely Paul

[edit]

Thanks again. It seems like a strange coincidence that the last time that same section was deleted it was also from Aukland. It was on 1:44, 15 October 2007 156.62.3.22 Aukland University of Technology. It's not the same IP address, but it's the same city both times. I guess it does'nt really matter since the damage was repaired in less than a minute from the time it happened. Sincerely Paul

What are talking about, I didnt leave a personal attack that guy kept editing the Douglas MacArthur High School (San Antonio, Texas) page on the part that says Football(USA Football) 1998 State Finalist , I added information that they were State Finalist on the account that the other team that would have played them Katy High School had a player that failed or something so they played in their spot for the State Championship game and lost to Midland Lee High School 53-0. What if the article was rewritten to look more like John Marshall High School (Leon Valley, Texas)? vandalism

[edit]

I should have mentioned that I know someone who has a website about white tigers who recieved a number of unpleasant e-mails from a Rhys who seems to think he owns the subject. That's why I thought it was probably the same person who deleted the section and left the message "hi its rhys". I still think it's a little too coincidental. I think there's a connection.

white tiger

[edit]

I will create an account. Regarding the other matter he also sent me an e-mail, before the section disappeared twice, in which he objected to the content of that section. He said that private breeders would'nt appreciate having their information put on the internet. I told him that all of that information has already appeared in print and is available elsewhere on the internet. I also told him that I spoke to two of them on the phone and told them I was doing research for a website before asking them any questions. The other two private breeders are dead and this is all ancient history anyway. He did'nt answer. After I saw that message "hi its rhys", left in place of the deleted section I e-mailed him and asked whether he did it. I also told him it was restored before I knew it had been deleted (in under a minute). He did'nt reply to that either. I wonder whether other vandalism was perpetrated from Aukland or Australia. He does'nt live in New Zealand. I know his full name, mailing address and e-mail address. I've mailed him articles about white tigers and spoken to him on the phone. Polar Bear

[edit]

Hi. There's a problem with the edits done on the polar bear article. It is simply wrong to say that polar bears include berries, seaweed, and roots in their diet. In another location is says "Polar bears may attempt to consume almost anything they can find, including hazardous substances such as styrofoam, plastic, car batteries, ethylene glycol, hydraulic fluid, and motor oil", yet nobody is claiming that motor oil is part of a polar bear's diet. The facts are exactly the same however.

The western hudson bay bear population is unique, in that the bears go without a source of food for 3-4 months, and in the process are starving. What they try to eat is merely a case of what they find. Motor oil or berries, it makes no difference... it has no food value and would be ignored by a healthy bear that had a proper food source.

In fact,no other polar bears typically eat garbage, motor oil, or berries. They sometimes explore dumps, but mostly out of curiosity, and typically do not eat or return.

The problem with the way it was worded, prior to my recent edits (which I made because of an example of this) causes people to believe that polar bears are omivorous like brown bears are. They are NOT. They've lost the teeth to even eat plants! And food like berries might go down, but it does not sustain the bear. See Can. J. Zool. 63(10): 2291?2297 (1985) | doi:10.1139/cjz-63-10-2291 | © 1985 NRC Canada The Significance of supplemental food to polar bears during the ice-free period of Hudson Bay" Lunn and Stirling.

I don't have time to re-edit it right now, but within a day or two will do so. Please to not revert it without discussion and research. The false impression that is currently being given about diet is damaging. Floyd Davidson (talk) 01:27, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"white tiger cruelty"

[edit]

Somebody added a section to the white tiger article titled "white tiger cruelty". I deleted the whole thing. It was rubbish. It said that "people make Siberian tigers mate with Bengal tigers to produce white tigers" and that only 25% of the cubs are white. I know my spelling is bad, but even by my standards the spelling was atrocious. Also what was said about tiger farms and inbreeding problems had all been covered elsewhere in the article. I also believe that it's against wikipedia policy to represent a point of view in this manner. LagunaBeachCA

[edit]

Thank you for opening the report to AN/I about User:210.49.20.90 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). Also thank you for reverting my talk page and blocking the IP.

I blocked User:767-249ER a few days ago because of incivility. He then made a couple of inappropriate comments at his talk page, which led to an extension of the block and protection of his talk page. The anonymous comments at my talk page look, to me, like an extension of this pattern. However, I appreciate that another admin a) saw the behavior, b) recognized it as disruptive and c) reported it to WP:AN/I. I was going to report it myself, and I've commented; however, having the report come from somebody else gives it more of an air of independence.

And again - and just speaking as a user with a defaced talk page this time - thank you very much for your quick reversion! —C.Fred (talk) 15:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cambridge! Good to hear from you. Interesting article... I'm giving it a go and will return to it in a bit. I've added an Ihalmiut mention to Joseph Tyrrell article whose expeditions had first contact with them, and added an Ihalmiut book to the Farley Mowat article, who wrote about them. Oh, and a mention about Ihalmiut at the Ennadai Lake article, an area they once inhabited. Help: if you click on the citation on the Ennadai Lake article, it mentions that the Ihalmiut were moved from there to Henrik Lake. For the moment, I can't find anything (I will search more), on Henrik Lake. But the Ihalmiut article states the people were moved to Eskimo Point. Do you know where that is in relation to Ennadai Lake and Henrik Lake? One last question: there's no wiki article on Canada's "Barren Lands"? Cheers, happy holidays. Rosiestephenson (talk) 00:37, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some information to Ihalmiut; can you double-check it as there are a lot of references? If there's enough new info to warrant a DYK? nomination, go for it. I also made some minor edits to Farley Mowat, Arviat, Nunavut, Dubawnt Lake, Kazan River, Barren-ground Caribou, and People of the Deer, basically to link information. Cheers, Rosiestephenson (talk) 05:25, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good edits on Ihalimut; like the new articles. Yes, I read the Mowat criticism section yesterday and it made me cautious about his Ihalmut work, but since I couldn't locate any web articles refuting Mowat's Ihalimut stuff, I figured it was accurate. What got me excited was the "Ahiarmiut" info you found; I'll look at that more closely in the next couple of days. Also, I'll research the variety of Inuit who might be considered Caribou Eskimo/Caribou Inuit. If you haven't seen this already (especially the Human Heritage section), you might find it interesting reading... "Padleimiut" ("Padlermiut"?), Harvaqtormiut. Also see references to them and Caribou Inuit here. Cheers Rosiestephenson (talk) 03:01, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your comments made sense, so I made the change for Ahiarmiut's translation. What I'm still looking for is a sourced explanation as to why this Inuit band is sometimes referred to as Ahiarmiut, sometimes Ihalmiut, and, rarely, Ahialmiut, though I suspect that's a transliteration. In my quest, I found this. Unfortunately, my 4 yrs of high school French aren't up to the translation; so... how's your French? Cheers Rosiestephenson (talk) 09:02, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your note on Angulalik, I added he was Ahiarmiut on Red Pedersen's page. Btw, I am curious about a word on the Angulalik web page: Kuugjuarmiut. Wondering if you had any information as googling it didn't pull up anything substantive. Cheers Rosiestephenson (talk) 10:02, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was just looking at the specific changes made from that IP and that combined with the comment he made on his show really make me wonder whether he has'nt been writing his own article and using it for self promotion while turning it into a white wash. I can't claim to know that he's done this, but I really wonder. I hope you can find out.

Michael Coren

[edit]

I don't know where Michael Coren lives. I wonder if he could have done it from a computer at CTS, where his show is taped. That would be outside of Toronto. Maybe he's smart enough to make sure he would'nt be caught. There was one change regarding a book that he was currently writing or writing at the time. I wonder how anybody else would know about that. Surely it would be inappropriate to write one's own wikipedia article. Thanks. LagunaBeachCA.

Thanks. The only thing he said, on his show, is that he checks it every day. When I heard him say that my ears pricked up, but at the time I did'nt know how to trace an IP address. He obviously knows about tracing IP addresses because he said he once recieved a death threat by e-mail which was traced to New Zealand. LagunaBeachCA (11:27, December 24, 2007)

Definition of Shed Hunting

[edit]

I'm not 'Wikipedia savvy' and have no clue how to edit and don't care to take away your thunder regarding your definition of 'shed hunting', but being an avid shed hunter you are waaaaay off on many of your terms and had wished you came over to shedantlers.org and chatted on the forum a bit with us before you went off and came up with a definition we all laugh at over there. Including the guys from Idaho!! haha

Here's the scoop, "some" not "all" of us shed hunt for profit.

Clinting is a term possibly so outdated nobody has heard of it before in my circles. I've been "shedding" for 25 years. I've shed hunted in Ohio, KS, PA, NY, CO, MD, WV, NC and talk to guys in Idaho, MT, WY, BC, ALB, MAN, UT and all places surrounding ID and they never use that term.

YOur use of the term "prongs" is wrong and all circles of deer nuts like myself call them 'tines'

Clints are antlers......period.

We have a great love of shed antler hunting and hope maybe you can relinquish this one definition to somebody who knows something about it, spends about 1000 hours a year doing it and somebody who would do the definition justice. I'm not making a personal attack, you just have no clue what you are talking about in this particular realm. Come on over to shedantlers.org, login and chat on the forum with us and we'll be glad to help you with your quest of coming up with an accurate definition. We also have cool field photos we'd love to give you as most of us take pics of them before we pic them up.

Was blocked with all the other country names that were blocked at the same time as these usernames tend to spawn issues with nationalistic editors, plus it was decided that no one should be able to edit on behalf of a entire country. Thank you for the message, I'm a bit miffed that others went and unblocked while not even waiting very long for a response over the holidays, which are a busy time for those of us who do things in real life. I would re-block, but find wikipedia to be quite hostile these days and the annoying bot has archived the discussing without my input. pschemp | talk 21:08, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

err no. You cannot block people for such reasons.. I'm embarrased we did that anybody. Secretlondon (talk) 23:05, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

76.67.13.66

[edit]

I noticed that this person removed a reference to Michael Coren equating homosexulaity with bestiality and necrophilia, despite someone adding a link to confirm this. If you look at the discussion section of the article the last message posted includes the link, so I wonder why the reference was removed (on Sept. 25, 2007). Also 76.67.13.66 wrote that Michael Coren became a Canadian citizen in 1990, but this is unsourced and I wonder how he or she knows this. I wonder if there's still a way to find out who 76.67.13.66 is. LagunaBeachCA (talk) 15:34, 27 December 2007 (UTC)LagunaBeachCA[reply]

Caribou Inuit

[edit]

Thanks for adding categories to the Caribou Inuit article. I created a lot of redlines needing their own articles but I think there's enough information available on those for an editor who wants to tackle them. For sure I can give them attention after 1/1 if someone hasn't gotten a jump start by then. Rosiestephenson (talk) 04:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

209.226.175.54

[edit]

209.226.175.54 is Michael Coren's IP address. It is also connected to Bell, like 76.67.13.66, but is in Toronto, unlike 76.67.13.66. It was'nt him or he used a different computer at another location outside of Toronto. 15:36, 28 December 2007 (UTC)LagunaBeachCA

[edit]

Thanks for the tip. I did it like that first, but couldn't relocate the syntax in one or two seconds, so I got lazy. I now see that I could have checked "contributions" for my earlier edit. Do you know if there's a single page on Wikipedia that gives mark-up for article space, citations, math formulas in particular? Is the Wikipedia math mark-up just HTML? --Amaltheus (talk) 06:25, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, this was exactly what I wanted. --Amaltheus (talk) 07:23, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kapsules Deletion

[edit]

I'm confused as to why the Kapsules article was removed. It's still being actively used by people and thought the source website, shellscape.org doesnt offer it for download, it's still available on many popular download sites and there still exist several websites which have Kapsules widgets sections. I'm petitioning for it's undeletion. Please respond at your convenience. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.79.119.171 (talk) 03:32, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was tagged as a Wikipedia:Proposed deletion. The reason given on the prod was "Old software with small userbase - website down for over 3 months". I just checked and the website is still down. As you can see the wording at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion#After deletion is not the clearest. So I figured that undeleting was the best idea. so sorry! (regarding my additions)

Hi there!

So sorry for adding the external links, I have them all as friends and thought I was doing them a favor! I didn't know it was against the rules, I really do apologize!

AfD nomination of Jean Chrétien

[edit]

An editor has nominated Jean Chrétien, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jean Chrétien and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 03:29, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jean Chrétien

I was semi-wrong in my AFD comment. Actually the AFD tag was on the main article, but the links in the AFD were to the redirect..... :O) Ah, either way.... FlowerpotmaN·(t) 03:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
