WP:FLAG in EB article

Hi there. Which part of this guideline were you referring to? I can't see anything that discourages the use of flags in infoboxes. Tim Vickers 00:16, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ove Hoegh-Guldberg (biologist), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://profiles.bacs.uq.edu.au/Ove.Hoegh-Guldberg.html. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Indian attidudes toward Americans, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Indian attidudes toward Americans is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Indian attidudes toward Americans, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. What is the difference between the {{tl:PD-self}} and {{tl:GFDL-self}} licensing? One explicity states "GNU', but they both essaentially say the same thing. I created the picture and release it. Thanks. wbfergus Talk 13:27, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. I have quite a few pictures on here (around 20-30), and I'd hate to have to go back and add a different if one was superceded by a newer one. I could really care less if anybody wants to cite me as the author or not. I guess some people need that extra attention, but I'm old enough now that I don't really care. wbfergus Talk 13:37, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Unused images

Please stop tagging public domain images as speedy under the claim that they are only used in speedy pages. This claim only works if, once the page is speedied, that the image is covered by the CSD because it's unused. There is one a speedy criteria which refers to unused images, but only to images which don't have a free license. An image which is in the public domain doesn't become speedy-deletable just because it's unused. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 14:16, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 20:59, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

An image proposed for deletion

Hi, when you propose an image for deletion, remember to check if the image is in use. If it is, add The image above is proposed for deletion. See images and media for deletion to help reach a consensus on what to do. to the caption(s) in the article it is in use in, as it says in rule #1 in Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion#Listing images and media for deletion. Images

I don't think any image on Wikipedia would "significantly harm the reader's ability to understand the article". You're blowing it grossly out of proportion. The image is there in order to identify two people; and, regardless of the importance of the event it documents, it is relevant to the article. In no way does it violate fair use. The picture helps the reader understand who the article's subject was on tour with and what he looked like at the time. It does nothing but enhance the quality of this article. US relations / POV tag

Per this conversation, can I ask why you are creating pages and immediately flagging them with POV tags? Pages on bilateral relations are indeed often helpful, but why create them out of material that you don't think is neutral? - Revolving Bugbear 21:19, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Help with US relations

Hey, i'd be willing to help wikilink the articles you're creating. I just wanted to let you know it'd do it to avoid an edit conflict after a good amount of work. If you're interested, of course. Grsz11 (talk) 04:58, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

That would be fabulous! I don't intend to do any wikilinking myself for some time (as it is this is pretty tedious but at least it's fun to make a bunch of pretty articles), though I may go back to may a change or two here and there (adding see alsos, etc). Hopefully we won't be getting any ECs but if we do all my edits should be small and easy to incorporate for you. Mangostar (talk) 05:00, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan. I'll do it when I'm free. Grsz11 (talk) 05:06, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, my bad for not noticing the assertation at the bottom of the page. But please note for future:

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from pages that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Ros0709 (talk) 23:13, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

fishing article

Hi. Thanks for your work on this article. I haven't had a chance to review all the edits, but the article needed work. I might suggest that you do major editing in a word processing program or on your sandbox page rather than make a dozen changes to the "live" page just because it makes it easier to see what happened that way. Also, sometimes some folks hide vandalism in multiple edits, so when I see that many edits I start looking at the history to see if there is some reason.Bob98133 (talk) 21:32, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I prefer to make multiple edits (and I prefer that others do as well, within reason). That lets others look at my edit summaries for each change and see where content is coming from and where it is going, as well as why I made the changes I did. Feel free to make whatever changes to my version as you'd like. Mangostar (talk) 21:34, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Gender roles in Algeria

A tag has been placed on Gender roles in Algeria requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Style tribe

I'm not going on number of hits, I'm going on relevancy. See this Google search for example; out of those 10 pages, 3 sources at most use the term (most notable being NY times and the List), the rest being blogs or shopping magazines. I'd be happy to undelete if you think you can develop at least a higher-class stub from that. Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 17:41, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

I know all of that; please don't assume I've got a case of the itchy delete finger. :) I was just concerned, as blogs tend to give rise to many terms which may gain usage in other blogs. That's why terms that originate from blogs need quite a bit more mainstream recognition before being considered notable, given the freeform nature of the "blogosphere". I'll undelete, in any case. Encyclopedic topics in obscure countries

HI I very much appreciate your work in creating these important missing articlres but do you think you could spend a minute or two cleaning one or two of them up. Creating a whole succession of articles intentionally with a wikify or clean up tag on them is lazy, particularly when they are copied public domain articles. This leaves a lot of other work for other editors later. Don't get me wrong your're doing excellent getting these off to a start but it would make things easier if you could wikify a few of them first ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:46, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Revised documentation for photo of The Shakespeare Center

About the photos you've questioned

Dear Mangostar: you have questioned a dozen or more photos on a Wiki site I developed (and for which I was given a "The Exceptional Newcomer Award For your work on the article Riverside Shakespeare Company. utcursch | talk 14:52, 4 December 2007 (UTC); the photos I have placed on the RSC site are ones that I myself took; posters that I made, all as graphics designer for this company. But I need your help: I don't know how to change the credit line on an existing photo, only how to load a new replacement photo. Can you explain this to me, to save me an inordinate amount of time on a Wiki site upon which I have spent countless hours of work? I would appreciate this. Weimar03 (talk) 02:54, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

As posted on Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2008 April 15:
If editors in good standing upload images as {{GFDL-self}}, we normally take it on trust that they are acting properly, unless there is evidence to the contrary (e.g. a history of uploading images improperly). It is out of order to suddenly jump to deletion, without any dialogue with the uploading editor, in order to give the editor a chance to resolve the situation satisfactorily. This image should definitely not be deleted until that has been done. This applies to the other images below similarly nominated.[1]
Ty 13:29, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear Mangostar, in your last email, you asked to have the theatre company email Wiki, but the Riverside Shakespeare Company (unfortunately!!) was disolved ten or more years ago, after 20 years of existance. I will, however, add the information that you requested, which will, hopefully, suffice. It's all for the sake of documenting this organization, which has no website, and therefore Wikipedia will be the first (and only legit) complete documentation of what the RSC of NYC did in its first decade when I worked there. Weimar03 (talk) 16:56, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear M, to anwser your questions: "Were you an employee of the theater when you created these images?" Yes, I was. and "Also, please add a note to any non-poster photos saying whether you took them or not." Yes, I did. And I own the negatives, etc. etc. Thanks, again, for your assistance on clarifying all of this. Weimar03 (talk) 19:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Ps., I have, per your suggestion, added wording to the RSC/NYC site about the end of the last years of the company. Weimar03 (talk) 19:27, 16 April 2008 (UTC) Weimar03 (talk) 19:27, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
I've begun to add information about photos & posters on the RSC site. Let me know if you think it suffices.
Dear M, respectfully, what you wrote in your last email is not true. I took the pictures for the RSC, made the posters, with my own funds, not the company's. At the time I was not compensated for any of this. I now own the negatives, the artwork. The company never copyrighted any of this. Weimar03 (talk) 00:14, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Let me add, to clarify the above statement, that McMullan owns the posters he designs for Lincoln Center Theatre, which pays him fee for their use. But they are his. Carol Rossigg and Martha Swope have a copywright on the photos they shoot for a theatre, which has a right to reproduce them but does not in fact own them. Such was the case with the posters I made, and the pictures I took for the RSC of NYC. When a theatre dissolves, the copywright does not belong to anyone, but the artists and photographers who worked there. If a set desginer designs a set for a theatre, its for that one use of the design for that particular show, and the copywright for that set design belongs to the designer, not the theatre; it cannot be used again by anyone but him or her. Etc. etc. Weimar03 (talk) 00:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear M, I'll do my best. Could not come a worse time: swamped for the next week in my present job. If you can petition the judge for a stay of execution, it would help. I and others spent quite a bit of time developing that site. Hate to see dozens of posters, flyers, etc. deleted. Hanks' rep contacted us with a compliment on the site. We corrected a lot of misinformation about his work at the RSC of NYC that's out on the web. What Wiki now has is the facts about his only NY work. Ah well...

Weimar03 (talk) 02:26, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Mangostar: After our various conversations (thank you, by the way) I have gone through the Wiki sites I have contributed material to and pulled, temporarily I hope, any material that contains graphic/photographic stuff that any others in the company have contributed to. As the prime photographer for the theatre company (yes, as a volunteer) during its first ten years, and, at this point, the primary contributor of material to these sites, I want the final material on the site to stay there, and that all the documenation is in place. I'll do my best to take care that it is. I'll get back to you on this. Weimar03 (talk) 10:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear M, I have gone through the site and carefully added wording which I believe addresses the issues and clarifies the status of the photos and the graphics that you questioned. I have referenced all of these to Weimar03 should there be any future question. All the best, Weimar03 (talk) 13:27, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
And thank you for your dilligence. I understand the why and the wherefore a bit better now. I think we're all working towards the same end: to make Wikipedia a better, ever more credible source of information. All the best, and let me know if there's more I can do. Weimar03 (talk) 15:55, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
And, while you're at it, check out a site I overhauled, about an important New York theatre: The Winter Garden Theatre (1850); hope you like it. Weimar03 (talk) 22:03, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear M, just wanted to know if I should be concerned about the notices on the photos of the site that you looked at, and if you'd had a chance to look at what I placed there to clarify the sources, etc. Just let me know if there's more that I need to do. Cheers! Weimar03 (talk) 11:39, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear M, thanks for removing the deletion box from the photos on Riverside Shakespeare. I notice that they're still on several posters on that site. Let me know if there's more I should do. Cheers! Weimar03 (talk) 21:40, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear M, Someone, not sure who, has also posted a "considered for deletion" on all or most of the posters I designed with photos I took, all on the Riverside site. I've documented these, just as I did the photos for which you removed the deletion boxes (again, thanks). Should I worry about these posters being removed, and never appearing on the Wiki site? Thanks for your help on this..Weimar03 (talk) 01:04, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Weimar03 (talk) 03:04, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear Mangostar: we corresponded last spring about the Riverside Shakespeare Company site, for which I'd addeda quite a few photos I myself had taken, and owned (still have the negatives, etc. etc.) Now a newcomer has taken interest in the site and is going through, taking out pictures that I thought I'd documented fairly well. You can see for yourself. I'm not exactly sure how to fend off this kind of stuff. You know, it gets to the point that one gets tired of developing a historical site, with documentation that I've gotten a zillion compliments for, including an Exceptional Newcomer Award, and an invitation to Alexandria last summer for the Wiki conference (couldn't go, I was in Berlin writing a book, etc., etc. ) I guess I should have recommended that the site be locked off to keep well-meaning folks from going through, as you had done (carefully, I must add), and deleting photos I'd inserted for historical documenation of importance.

Do you have any recommendation? Because, as you can see from the recent "history" of the site, the demolition of this site has begun, and I'm rather fatigued at trying to defend photos and posters that I created, and had "donated" to the universe through Wikipedia. By the way, my name is WeimarO3, but that wasn't registered. You could probably be respond through this, your own site. Thanks!

Hi Mangostar. Thanks for backing me up with your knowledge on legal matters. I was very dependent on news information. BTW, as much as possible, I would like to be consistent with ref tags, like {{Cite web}}, and dont know what type of template would Im going to use with the sources you add. Could you fix it for me? Thank you very much. --Efe (talk) 03:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see. I will not change them. If you have more prose concerns about the article, please reflect them in the FAC page. Thank you. --Efe (talk) 03:58, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Easter parade photos

Mango: Thanks for finding these pictures. It would be wonderful to find some of the Easter parade in its heyday. I have given up on WP images because of the hateful ways of those who like to take them down, but I'd possibly do some work to find a free image or two for this article. Do you have any suggestions on where to look for such things? Lou Sander (talk) 16:57, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Great stuff! I'm concerned about some idiot taking the photos down and complaining that there's not sufficient evidence that they are free images. Do you have advice on this? Lou Sander (talk) 19:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Conclusion: Image placeholders centralized discussion

Hi. I'm sending this to you because you participated in the Centralized discussion on image placeholders that ended on 23 April.

That discussion must produce a conclusion.

We originally asked "Should the addition of this box [example right] be allowed? Does the placeholder system and graphic image need to be improved to satisfy policies and guidelines for inclusion? Is it appropriate to some kinds of biographies, but not to others?" (See introduction).

Conclusions to centralized discussions are either marked as 'policy', 'guideline', 'endorsed', 'rejected', 'no consensus', or 'no change' etc. We should now decide for this discussion.

Please read and approve or disapprove the section here: Conclusion --Kleinzach (talk) 11:20, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Please note this message conforms to WP:CANVASSING and has not been sent to anyone has not already participated in the centralized discussion.

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 05:59, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

With Cambodia User:Paxse and I looked for weeks to find some free images. I think a flickr agreement was made and somebody made contact with one of the those blogs and there isn't a problem. Most of them we found on a US aid site including the current image we have of the prime minister ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:00, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Thats great work you;ve done on Ratanakiri. I see you created Image:Ratanakiri districts.jpg. I was trying to obtain some district maps for many months, is it possible you could create district maps for the other provinces? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:14, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

What we need to do is add a commune and village table to all of the districts like I have done to Battambang District etc. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:33, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Well given that finding a decent amount of free images for Cambodia is a very difficult task particularly as the OTRS people in the commons take months to respond if you think removing these images helps wikipedia thats your problem. But as they aren't OTRS ticketed people will inevitably doubt them. In regards to Cambodian district maps anyhting is far better ythan we have at present (e.g nothing). ANy work you could also do on developing some of the district and other provincial articles would be gratefully appreciated ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:24, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Wat Chon Thara Singhe

I put a speedy on it as it read like a travel guide and the text appears in a lot of travel guides. As you split it off from an existing article, do you know what the provenance of the text is? I don't want to delete material that should legitimately belong. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 12:28, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

The text was a copyvio text dump from May 3 from http://www.thai-tour.com/eng/narathiwat/attractions.html, not by Mangostar, but by another user. years

Generally, it might be a good idea not to redirect or to afd additional articles until the test case at AfD, for 619 in Ireland, is dealt with by consensus. And even so, at present it seems to deal only with cases where there is no actual event in that year. It would be good to do a single test case for where there is one event in a year. And let it finish the undoubted Deletion Review if there is one before doing more. Doing a whole batch without prior consensus is not really the best way to do it--as the episodes and characters mess has shown. Go slow, and its more likely to last without drama. DGG (talk) 04:21, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Changes at 619 in Ireland

(from Sarah777 page) Please do not call obviously good-faith edits "vandalism"--it's insulting. Also, do not remove AFD tags from articles before the AFD discussion is complete. As an established editor, you should know as much. Mangostar (talk) 03:40, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Please don't delete 20 separate articles without any discussion. That is vandalism. Sarah777 (talk) 00:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
The entire content was preserved in the merge. Give me a break. Mangostar (talk) 00:18, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Merge? You deleted 20 articles (possibly more, I can't track everything). "Timeline" v "years in" has been debated in the past. Who appointed you as God? (I ask this with civility, of course). Sarah777 (talk) 00:28, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
They were all redirected and combined, I have no idea what you are talking about. Look through all the facts listed on the 7th century in Ireland page - every single thing from the year pages was kept in the bigger artilce. Mangostar (talk) 00:30, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I have no knowledge of any past discussions, but the AFD has a clear consensus (so far at least) that these early entries should be merged. Mangostar (talk) 00:31, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
What AfD are you referring to? Sarah777 (talk) 00:46, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Uploading photos

Thanks for your explicit advice on using the highest possible resolution. The three low-res photos that I uploaded yesterday were indeed "resized" from hi-res originals as a kind of a trial. The upload went much faster, but I am not sure about the quality for other users. I will follow your advice in the future and will replace the three low-res pix with hi-res originals if I can figure out how to do this (always a problem for novices...). Thanks again. --Zlerman (talk) 02:10, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi. In that AfD, you asked to be notified as soon as it closed, in order to proceed with merging the generic year articles. That solution would now seem to have consensus.  Sandstein  22:32, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

No. The deletion of 619 had consensus. Nothing else. Sarah777 (talk) 22:35, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Protection tags on templates

Hey Mangostar. I saw you adding noinclude to a template that I protected recently. I didn't realize that adding a tag would cause it to be echoed onto the articles that include the template. Oops! What do you think about leaving off the semi-protection tag completely, for templates? What do people normally do? I assume that lots of templates must be protected anyway. Redirects

I don't think one large article is better 2-3 smaller ones. The smaller articles encourage people to contribute and all wiki readers to see that their isn't one type of religion in Zimbabwe (or any other country), that it differs as much as the Western countries most wiki readers come from. I agree that they have not been managed correctly, but that is not a good reason to simply merge them. Let us manage them better!--Thomas.macmillan (talk) 14:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Zhang Heng not a free image?

How is that not public domain? It was issued in 1955; there is a fifty-year limit for postage stamps. It is now the year 2008. So what exactly is the problem?--Pericles of AthensTalk 16:42, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh, my mistake. Fifty-years for photographs, and fifty-years after the death of an artwork's creator. Now I see why it is tagged.--Pericles of AthensTalk 16:46, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Are you coming to that conclusion from where it says this:

The term of protection for the right of publication and the rights provided for in Article 10, paragraphs (5) to (17), of this Law in respect of a work where the copyright belongs to a legal entity or other organization or in respect of a work created in the course of employment where the legal entity or other organization enjoys the copyright (except the right of authorship), shall be fifty years, and expires on 31 December of the fiftieth year after the first Publication of such work, provided that any such work that has not been published within t1tty years after the completion of its creation shall no longer be protected under this Law

If so that might be applicable, but I'm not sure what type of tag should be used.--Pericles of AthensTalk 17:12, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

According to Postage stamps and postal history of the People's Republic of China, it is the state that issues postage stamps, as they have since 1949.--Pericles of AthensTalk 17:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
One should also remember that this is Communist China in 1955 we are talking about. I don't think individuals would have the copyright to any postage stamp created under a state organization. Therefore the 50 year limit should apply for this stamp.--Pericles of AthensTalk 17:22, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

An award

The Tireless Cambodia Contributor Barnstar
I Blofeld the Bald award this to Mangostar for his excellent work and dedication at developing poor articles on Cambodia to an excellent level in Ratanakiri Province in particular. Your contribution to Cambodia on wikipedia is so important as there are so few editors working on them. Now if we can get every province up to Ratankiri level I'll be smiling!. Welcome also to the new geobot project. Hopefully we can improve coverage and quality big time. Keep up the good work! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

For the Cambodian commune articles I was wondering if you could find a way of using Template:Location map Cambodia and having a location of the communes on a pin map? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:04, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Also could you fill in the missing communes in the Ratanakiri nav box. Cheers! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Did you get my message? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:16, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes I agree completely, but I thought some sort of location map in the country would help considerably. A commune locator map would be very useful. You;ve done a smashing job on those districts. I remember when I stubbed all of the districts because we didn't even have them!! and many of the provinces are still stubs. Unbelievable. It would be good to make several hundreds clones of ourselves! Anyway I see you've also done a terrific job in realising the Library Congress data that could be added to wikipedia. The text is public domain right? I;ve just created 1958 elections in Laos is this OK to do? If so I will be willing to work with you at helping transfer the text to wikipedia, There are some awfully important articles and case studies on general topics for most countries. Excellent job! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

An excellent idea. I seem to be suddenly meeting a number of people who share the same interests and ideas for developing wikipedia as me, this looks promising in regards to the new geobot project. I'll make it one of my priorities to use that library resource. Some of it may need updating and intergrating with other sources and may occassionally be written from an American view but a good start. If you could sort out those Cambodian districts and communes it would e one less country for me to worry about! Any new maps you could create would also be a major thing ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Absolutely. I just started Topography of Laos too. I have a strong feeling that members of the new bot project such as User:Editorofthewiki, User:AlbertHerring, User:John Carter, User:EJF etc would also be interested. I have a lot on my plate with the bot establishment and sorting out existing settlements on wiki, but this is also very important to the project and would be willing to work hard at it. If we can combine such sources with other info and rewrite them a little afterwards into full articles this would be another immesne development for wikipedia. Might I suggest you address it to these editors that text can be transferred to wikipedia on important subjects by country like this and we could see another important project running again. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:57, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

The main reason in proposing the bot was to try to cover each country equally. Initially it was intended for towns and villages but if we can use it to generate detailed content using such sources I don't see why it wouldn't become possible to actually build it into the new project. As we work on each country we could work at adding the missing written articles from the Library too. Defintaely bring it up in the geo bot proposal discussion. The ultimate goal of thr new project is to cover each country as resourcefully and as completely as possible and we should be open to anything which could enhance wikipedia so much. It might be possible to develop a log of public domain text in addition that could be bot generated in addition to the new stub geo articles. This would leave more time for us to edit the articles rathing than always focusing on starting them ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I guess, I'm jus trying to think of how we could tackle it. Even with the geo articles to be generated by the bot it will involve a lot of human development. Probably the text from the Library could be transferred manually but I would certainy encourage the formation of the group you suggested. See what they others think ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:35, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This is partly in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and partly so that those who regularly deal with stub articles know what stub types are likely to need re-sorting soon. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 02:38, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Creating geo lists

Hi I've made an intital suggestion at the GEOBOT talk page in that it would be an excellent idea to generate a full lists of places in a tabled list. Once this is accomplished we can work through what articles could be started in their own right if there is enough info avilabale. I see it as a solid comprehensive base to build geo content on if we have a full world list organized like this. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography/Bot#Creating lists. Please offer your thoughts thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:25, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Articles about Newfoundland and Labrador

You have made a number of edits on articles dealing with Newfoundland and Labrador recently. While I agree with some of what you have done, I disagree with others and have acted accordingly. You created a new article Climate of Newfoundland and Labrador by going back to an old version of Geography of Newfoundland and Labrador and copying the entire Climate section into the new article. That old version of Geography of Newfoundland and Labrador was extremely poorly written, containing factual errors, poor grammar and some nonsense. It was written by someone who had no idea of what they were talking about and who simply (and very poorly) paraphrased some of the referenced materials. It was an embarrassment and I spent a long time re-writing the whole article. You have now re-introduced that back into Wikipedia. Please either delete that article, copy the newer Climate section (which would be pointless, IMHO) or be prepared rewrite the new article. Silverchemist (talk) 05:37, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

If you are going to copy and paste huge amounts of text from government documents into Wikipedia like you have done with Agriculture in Chad and a number of other articles, could you please take the responsibility of wikifying said huge amounts of text? Wikipedia is not a dumping ground. It won't be Wikipedia if there isn't any wiki. There's also: *Agriculture in Ethiopia

Thanks, Kingturtle (talk) 05:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Many people are able to wikify articles. Not many know where good PD sources of information are. My time is better spent copying and pasting, and letting others (who likely wouldn't know where to copy and paste from) wikify the text. Mangostar (talk) 07:27, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Can you at least include a {{wikify|date=July 2008}} tag each time you copy and paste? That will make it easier for others to find it. Thanks, Kingturtle (talk) 04:38, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi MangoStar, I resolved your concerns at the Jackson review some while back but I haven't heard anything from you. I was just wondering where you know stand and is there anything I can do to the article? Also thank you for voting KEEP on that Jackson sub article (the Jackson health and appearance one), if that ever were to be re-merged into the Jackson article it would have been unnecessarily bloated. — Realist2 (Speak) 19:18, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

US bilateral relations articles

Hi, thanks for your good work in this field. I've been gnoming through it; a few requests. Could you tone down the wikilinking? Please see WP:OVERLINK for advice on what to avoid linking. In particular, English-speaking country-names are now not linked unless there's a very good reason to do so. Words such as "embassy" and "electricity" should not be linked, likewise. Double hyphens should not be used (see MOS); instead, a spaced en dash in lists is required.

A tag has been placed on Bangladeshi society requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://countrystudies.us/bangladesh/30.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
