License tagging for Image:Alice N' Chainz.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Alice N' Chainz.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:05, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Godsmacktimes.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Godsmacktimes.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:42, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Godsmack

The lead is the introduction of the article, before the table of contents. So there's only one paragraph at the moment. M3tal H3ad 02:44, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Looking at the first section, Try get information on how the band originally met each other and how the name Godsmack came about (what does it mean/who came up with it/is it a reference to something etc). M3tal H3ad 04:09, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Well don't you think how the band thought of the name should appear at the section where the band was created? The influences section doesn't really mention who their influences are. This wouldn't screw the timeline up, you could just mention in an interview in 199X, Erna said otherwise etc. M3tal H3ad 04:28, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Just try and get two paragraphs of information for each section. M3tal H3ad 04:52, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Take a look at Bullet for My Valentine and Slayer each section has two paragraphs. M3tal H3ad 04:58, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Yea you can. Are they any good though? i could ask someone on flickr for an image. M3tal H3ad 06:56, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Well all the one sentence paragraphs are introducing the quotes, so perhaps add the one sentence s introducing the quotes to the end of the previous paragraph or just have the quotes in the paragraph without separating it. M3tal H3ad 03:28, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm writing up more on the peer review at the moment and making small fixes while reading through. M3tal H3ad 04:23, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
No style section would be required for GA. For FA, people expect more than just the history of the band. (still two references which LOOK LIKE THIS (caps)) M3tal H3ad 08:16, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Sure, go right ahead. M3tal H3ad (talk) 06:06, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Just as J said, you overuse the blockquote template which should only be used for paragraphs, just merge the quotes in the text. M3tal H3ad (talk) 09:32, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
You have the content you just need to copyedit it by removing spelling and grammar errors, and make the text flow better instead of immediately changing topic each sentence. M3tal H3ad (talk) 10:22, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
"In 2004, they were opening for Metallica's "Madly in Anger with the World Tour",[27] while headlining along with Dropbox during the summer" doesn't make much sense the first few times i read it. Remember that quotes should end like this ". not ." if it's the end of the sentence. Feel free to nominate if you think it is ready it as you will be waiting awhile for a review. M3tal H3ad (talk) 03:25, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Yea, if you want to close the review. Only for FAC you need to close the peer review though. M3tal H3ad (talk) 03:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Someone was willing to change the license of a picture, but he will have to do it tomorrow. M3tal H3ad (talk) 04:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Add a caption to the image telling us who everyone is now. M3tal H3ad (talk) 02:22, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Example of a good reference

These citation templates format the references well. Say I wanted to cite this page, (as I did in Chrome Division) I would use the web page citation template which, when cut down to only the fields I want and filled out with the relevant information, looks like this- {{cite web |url= http://www.seaoftranquility.org/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=3951|title= Chrome Division: Doomsday Rock ‘N’ Roll|accessdate=2007-08-20 |last= Pierce|first= Ken|date= [[2006-07-23]]|publisher= Sea of Tranquility}}, and formats into the article like this-

[Fact that I am citing].[1]

  1. ^ Pierce, Ken (2006-07-23). "Chrome Division: Doomsday Rock 'N' Roll". Sea of Tranquility. Retrieved 2007-08-20. {{cite web}}: Check date values in: |date= (help)

That is a rather full, which is why I chose to use it, but the minimum is the title, the link, the publisher and the access date. Maybe I am a little fussy about citations, but I think they look professional, and I think good/featured articles should look as professional as possible. J Milburn 19:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Godsmack protection

The vandalism/addition of original research doesn't look too bad- a lot of metal articles suffer from that. (Trivium is the one that does worst on my watchlist, but take a look at Cradle of Filth's history!) If you want protection, I recommend taking it to requests for page protection, but I doubt it would end up protected. Also, the IP doesn't seem to be doing anything particularly wrong- why not talk to the IP, explain what they are doing wrong, ask them for sources? J Milburn 18:11, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I personally have never reviewed a good article properly, but I have written a few, and peer reviewed a good few things up to that standard. It doesn't look bad to me, at all. The only thing jumping out at me that needs changing is that very small quotes are having the blockquote template applied to them, which is just silly. Imbed smaller quotes, but for any paragraph long quote, use blockquote. Good luck with the GA review. J Milburn 18:11, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

I've made the page a redirect to Good Times, Bad Times, as a) everything on the former is mentioned on the latter, and b) cover versions of songs never warrant their own article, even if the cover becomes more famous than the original (for example Dazed and Confused (song) - Led Zepp's is arguably the most famous version, yet it does not warrant an article of it's own. Nothing against Godsmack, just Wikipedia practice. Keep rockin' dude.

hey

I noticed you replaced my image of will smith with a picture of five white rock musicians in the nine inch nails article. dont you think thats a little raisist? whathave you got against black people like will smith? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.146.124.35 (talk) 00:36, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

white people are racist and they dont let all people into there country even though we are all the same and i respect will smith for being black. i am from india but i move america becuase my country is poor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.146.124.35 (talk) 00:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Godsmack GA

LONG is placed nexct to nominated articles which are over a certain length- doesn't seem to say on the candidates' page, I'm sure it used to. I think it is over 28kb, and Godsmack is currently at 30kb. It's just a warning to someone who intends to review the article that it may take a while. J Milburn (talk) 15:06, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Discography styling

Can you cool it a little with the outrageous restyling of the Devin Townsend and SYL discographies? When a separate page is available for full album listings, only the studio albums should be noted on the artist's page in the default wikitable format. The infobox album styling should only be used when there's extensive info needed for an album most especially in discography pages, so in Devin Townsend and SYL's case, it should be kept in wikitable format due to how he self-produces and releases his work himself with little notations about chart rankings and all of that. Don't get me wrong, I still think the infobox styling is useful for discographies like Metallica and other artists who have an extensive past, just not Townsend and SYL.

Also, I don't get personal with wiki editing like I see some people spaz out about when edit wars emerge. I merely keep things in line for the encyclopedic value and easy readability. It's not like I revert anything anyone does to a page I watch just because it overwrites what I've done. Hope this all clears things up for the styling disagreements. —Vanishdoom (talk) 05:35, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

I, too, am working towards getting Townsend a great and informative looking discography, but I just disagree with your styling methods, especially when it ends up with removing important notes about the albums themselves in the process. After reading through the wiki discography guidelines, there are no set rules on how to style them, and in fact, the infobox styling you're using on the Townsend/SYL discography is only applicable when the albums lack their own article. More info here. When I get the free time, I'll be re-writing a lot of the discography page to clean it up and hopefully work in a styling we can both agree on. Keep in mind that it's not what we want that should matter, it's how it's presented to others in how it matters. —Vanishdoom (talk) 01:41, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Re:

That does suck, lol. My name on it is Navnlos. I rarely use the site, though. I have no points on it because I haven't added anything yet. The only thing I use that site for is to look up discographies and stuff. I use it sometimes to creat an article on wikipedia when I need to know all the members and other info about a band. Navnløs (talk) 22:50, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I've reverted this edit. You'll want to give the "Nomination procedure" section on Wikipedia:Featured list candidates a good read to start with. Circeus 21:07, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Sputnikmusic, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Sputnikmusic is a site which offers review. I don't think this page should redirect to page which describes the review process

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Alice - Yes, in the coming days Blackening - There were like 120 FA's and as mine had one oppose so it got removed in the massive FAC sweep Discography - Don't know, never worked on one, may want to ask the people who wrote the featured ones by the way, Appetite for Destruction is going to be quick failed for GA because there is no information on recording or production, the legacy section mentions nothing about legacy as it only mentions album sales, nothing from critics/reviews, lead isn't long enough and there are more problems. M3tal H3ad 07:07, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Re: Appetite

Thanks for asking but I'm not too bothered about my user page. Anyway, I don't really have the time at the moment to help out that much but I'd be happy to help you wherever I can. Btw, do you own Reckless Road? That'll help out a lot on that article. It's all about their early days and the recording of AfD. Funeral 23:54, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok, well I've got it so I can use it for refs, quotes etc.. You should get it, it's the best [only good] GN'R book out there. I didn't see the biography, I heard about it, but I'm English and I don't think we got it over here. Funeral 00:06, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
There seems to be a consensus now, I won't bother leaving a comment. Message me again if you want me to leave a comment. Funeral 16:36, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
I've started a sandbox for it (User:Funeral/Appetite)... I've not done much yet, just a short bit a about sales in the lead section. Feel free to add whatever you want to it. Funeral 17:45, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Godsmack merge

Seems I missed the boat (I haven't signed on in days due to a nasty incident involving my router and lightning...) but I added my comments to the proposal. I feel sorry for you- you seem to have had to have waited ages so far for the GA review! J Milburn (talk) 19:26, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Various AfDs

Funny we should bump into each other twice in one night like this, but, at the request of another editor, I am reviewing the various Megadeth single articles, and nominating some for deletion. You have worked on at least one, and so I thought I would tell you like this rather than spamming you with template messages. Check through the songs on the template to see which I have nominated- I have not finished yet. I'll message with the AfDs once I have completed my run-through. Oh, and please don't take it personally, just as I wouldn't be offended if you contested the deletion. J Milburn (talk) 20:01, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok, the following debates may be of interest to you-

Alice in Chains

  • Alice in Chains is an American heavy metal[1] band that was formed in
  • and two DVDs within their career. Of course it is in their career
  • first studio album recorded since the 1995 album
  • estimated 11 million album - sounds dodgy, possibly say it's an RIAA estimate
  • Unlike many of their peers, - doesn't give the encyclopedia vibe
  • In 1987, Layne Staley met guitarist and song-writer Jerry Cantrell at a practice studio named "Music Bank".[5] Staley was trying to form a band due to Sleeze's decline, who is this "Sleeze"? Oh wait, reading on i read it was his former band - perhaps give a proper introduction on the first mention
  • with upwards sales of 500,000 - i suggest changing "upwards" to something else
  • Sap also featured
  • Consider merging many of the short paragraphs under the "Rise to fame" section. Slayer vocalist Tom Araya made an appearance on the track "Iron Gland", maybe worth mentioning

Will add more later. M3tal H3ad (talk) 12:27, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Congrats on the GA. The only left to do is copyedit, perhaps ask some users to take a look at the article. I will soon but i want to finish Metallica which will take awhile. M3tal H3ad (talk) 03:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Copy editing is making the writing more professional and easier for the reader to understad, fixing spelling and grammar errors as such. M3tal H3ad (talk) 03:49, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
  • 4x platinum by the RIAA, with more than four million copies sold in the United States - link platinum, saying 4x platinum then 4 million is redundant
  • selling album and considered by many fans, their best work - the citation leads to two critical reviews, state who says this is their best album
  • the first EP ever to reach that position.[15] The album was written and recorded in a week.[16] - are you referring to the EP as an album?
  • It featured their first and only Top 40 single - what position did it reach
  • "No Excuses." quotes inside full-stop
  • Following its release, they were scheduled - "they" is vague either the band or Alice in Chains
  • fueling rumors of drug addiction. - source
  • The band stayed off the road for the remainder of their run - stayed off? run?
  • Staley performed at a few shows with Mad Season, -> Staley performed several shows with..

Will add more sometime later. M3tal H3ad (talk) 03:49, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Godsmack nu-metal ref

you said yourself that you saved the references to the genre's here [1]. There was consensus to include all the genres that they have been linked to since the band is very versatile and isn't really of any particular style in general. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SisterEurope (talkcontribs) 06:45, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Read the reference you deleted. It's a good enough explanation. SisterEurope (talk) 00:25, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Skeeker. I've nominated Template:Appetite for Destruction for deletion at WP:TFD, which is a template you created. See the discussion and my reasoning for deletion here. Thanks, Spebi 08:16, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
