Disambiguation link notification for January 2
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Mahara Electoral District, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mahara. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Regarding Sri Lankan presidential election, 2015
Hi, I noticed that you added a timeline to Sri Lankan presidential election, 2015. I'd like to point out that the part "Results released at 20:00 local time." is dubious. I'm from Sri Lanka and it's 19:49 at the moment and as far as I know results won't be released until tomorrow which is 9th January. and Also today is the election day which is 8th January not 7th.--Chamith (talk) 14:20, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Chamith, I am just following what the references say, the can be fixed later.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:24, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
16:24
Don't you think it's odd for the polls to close at 4.24pm? The Indian/American source you provided said polls closed around 4.24 pm (IST). I have provided three RS, including two from Sri Lanka, to show that they closed at 4pm. Have a look at this as well.--obi2canibetalk contr 18:34, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- I know the polls were scheduled to close at 4 pm but in reality it probably closed ± a few minutes before or after, hence why I changed it to reflect the actual time. But in hindsight each polling station would have had a slightly different closing time so I guess 4:00 pm is the best solution. --Blackknight12 (talk) 14:23, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
Time in office
Hello, Blackknight12. As I said in my edit summary, I don't think its really important to include data about time in office in the list. But, I have no real problem to accept it, but definitely not in the "Name" column. We already have the years of birth and death and home province of a president in that column, and it doesn't look good if we also place time in office there. Therefore, I propose to include time in office in the "Term of office — Electoral mandates" section, if you're so persistent to have it in the list. --Sundostund (talk) 15:54, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Sundostund, thanks for starting this discussion as an edit summary does not suffice. I do think it is important to have the data about the time in office, as it shows perspective and not every term is the same length like the United States for example. I think where it is right now is fine and works well. However I am happy to compromise and move it right below the Electoral mandates section.--Blackknight12 (talk) 16:06, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- As I said, I can accept to have it in the list, but not in its current place. With it, "Name" column looks really overcrowded... Please, move it right below the Electoral mandates section, and then we'll see how it looks. --Sundostund (talk) 17:48, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- I remodeled it myself, it looks fine now as far as I'm concerned. Tell me what you think, I hope you'll like it. --Sundostund (talk) 18:17, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- I think it takes up too much room for such little information. I have included it in the term of office column as the column in all to do with dates and time.--Blackknight12 (talk) 04:32, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Fair enough. As long as it isn't in the "Name" column, I'm fine with it. Anyway, I just slightly remodeled your version (making clearer separation between "Electoral mandates" and "Time in office"). I think it looks better this way, in your version "Electoral mandates" and "Time in office" were too close, and they needed some wider space between them. --Sundostund (talk) 14:10, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Kumarasinghe Sirisena
Is Kumarasinghe Sirisena just notable for just being the brother of the president? If so the article is probably not notable (see WP:NOTINHERITED). His other achievements don't appear to justify his notability - as they are the same as any other Sri Lankan businessman.... Dan arndt (talk) 13:19, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Dan arndt: Hello, sorry for the late reply. I think he has notability on being the CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom, one of the country’s largest companies. Being the brother of the president adds to his notability. Expanding the article seems not to be too much of an issue as there are ample references to him.--Blackknight12 (talk) 13:13, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
- I'm still not 100% convinced that Sirisena would be notable if he wasn't the President's brother - essentially if he was just the chariman of Sri Lanka Telecom would his appointment have even made the local press? Dan arndt (talk) 10:21, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Terrorist incidents in Sri Lanka
Hello Blackknight12, thanks for your recent edits to List of terrorist incidents in Sri Lanka & for the change of your mind to revert your vote at AfD. But I think it is better to keep the list in chronological order, rather than keeping it by death toll or by the conflict. All the other country specific terrorist incident lists in wikipedia are also kept in chronological order. Regards. --LahiruG talk 05:32, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hello User:LahiruG, there already exists a chronological list, List of attacks attributed to the LTTE, and it is an extensive one, hence why it has been spun out to two degrees. Focus on improving the quality of that article instead of trying to create more lists with similar content. The list you have created for this article is completely arbitrary and selective, and is only a fraction of the content of List of attacks attributed to the LTTE. It is not the best thing to go by what other countries have done all the time, other countries had much less attacks during their lifetime while Sri Lanka have had a lot in a short timespan.--Blackknight12 (talk) 01:58, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Edit Warring July 2015
Please stop assuming ownership of articles as you did at Sri Lankan Tamils. Behavior such as this is regarded as disruptive and could lead to edit wars and personal attacks, and is a violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Your own edit summary makes it clear the information has existed for almost 4 months. Yet your audacious enough to ask me to explain. Sugar
There is a lot of work needed on this article. At the same time there are major problems with the article on Pelwatte Sugar Industries PLC, which potentially is a direct copy of other websites (including [http://www.sundaytimes.lk/111113/BusinessTimes/bt19.html this). At this stage I'm not certain where to start but I'll give it a go. Dan arndt (talk) 10:01, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Repeated moves
I see that on 5 September 2014 you moved List of Sri Lankan monarchs to List of Sinhalese monarchs. Another editor then moved it to List of monarchs of Srilanka, and on 21 October 2014 you moved it back to List of Sinhalese monarchs. When a change that you have made has been reverted by another editor, you should not simply repeat the change, but should instead explain why you think your version is better, and be willing to discuss the issues involved. I also see that all you gave as a reason in the move log was "Fix", which does not explain why you were making the move. Really, you should always give some indication why you are making a change, and when you are repeating a change which another editor has reverted it is essential to do so. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 12:11, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, the issue was discussed about a month earlier than the 20 October 2014 move, but was moved anyway by that editor, only after at which the editor joined the discussion. Aside from the move having a typo in it, I had made it clear as to why I moved it back.--Blackknight12 (talk) 17:41, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Can yo point me to the move discussion you refer to? I don't see any discussion of a possible move at the time you mention. I do, however, see a discussion about the content of the article, including specifically the prominence you wished to give to the word "Sinhalese". I also see criticism of the title which you had given to the article, from at least two editors. I don't see any consensus there to support your wish to change the article into an article about what you call the "Sinhalese monarchy", and as far as I can see you were the only one supporting your changed article title, against at least two who criticised it. Since then, at least one more editor has expressed disagreement with your move, and yet you reverted that editor's revert of your move. If I have missed something, please do point me to it. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 16:07, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- I am referring to this discussion, rather than joining it the user moved it without consensus. The next three topics below are on the same issues. However there is a constructive discussion happening right now. Maybe you can mediate? I think there is a major misunderstanding here, as I have addressed in my latest reply, as editors have taken this to be the main article on monarchs in Sri Lanka. It is not, but a sub article of the main List of Sri Lankan monarchs. Furthermore I think many editors are relying on hearsay of historical narrative rather than what is sourced. And some might take offence due to Sri Lankan ethnic relation issues active online. However wikipedia should not be a democracy as sometimes the majority have misinterpreted or mislead what the article is about, such as here, and would not be proper if moved for the wrong reasons.--Blackknight12 (talk) 17:51, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

About Sri Lanka national cricket team article
Hi..I saw your recent edits on the Sri Lanka national cricket team article, and about the tournament history of it in hidden type. but it is not updated in this hidden version. The extended version was in the updated form and your edit move this again to pervious un-updated version. So it is good to update the tournament history, because 2015 Cricket World Cup is finished and Sri Lanka qualified to quarter finals. Asin games are also finished and Sri Lanka are the gold medalists. So updtae it and then hide..
Thank You..Gihan Jayaweera (talk)
- Hello, you can update the template at template:Sri Lanka national cricket team tournament History. It is a template because all that content increases the length of the article and is very messy. I will not revert for a few days, and let you update the template. But the Sri Lanka national cricket team article is very messy and poorly structured and this last edit makes it worse. 8th Parliament
I see the new parliament being referred as the 8th parliament widely. Here is the new speaker. Looks like the starting point of the enumeration is the 1978 constitution. Our articles need to be ironed out to eliminate the discrepency, don't you think?--Chanaka L (talk) 14:43, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry for the late reply, I don't think it should be changed. The parliament of Sri Lanka and of Ceylon are the same. It has gone through some name changes while the biggest difference has only been the removal of the Senate, but it continues to be the parliament. We shouldn't need to start from 1 again every time there is another change to the name or constitution. As long as the legislature is named Parliament and the country is Sri Lanka, it should continued as is.--Blackknight12 (talk) 12:44, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon until 1972 when the country decided to change its name to what it is today. A change in name does not "create" a new country. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Rugby union in Sri Lanka
Hi Blackknight12 -- Your edit on the Rugby union in Sri Lanka article left multiple red ink entries in the reference section, so I reverted it for now. As I see it, most of the changes were a matter of style in any case – i.e. the ordering of sections and items on lists – which means it should be simple enough to reach a good faith consensus.
- On previous edits, I moved sections for the defunct competitions (Serendib Cup and Carlton Super 7s) to bottom of the article. The information (and citations!) should not be deleted, but it is clearer for readers of the Competitions section to include events that are actually a part of Rugby union in Sri Lanka rather than outdated information.
- Re: infobox at the top, there is no major issue with Dialog Rugby League being above Clifford Cup, rather than the current alphabetical order. But why is it only a redlink with no article? – A common enough convention is for redlinks not to be included on these navigational features. It remained on the list because I rated it as notable. If no one has even bothered to create an article (or even a redirect to the section within the Rugby union in Sri Lanka page), however, then it remains questionable.
- Similarly, there was only minimal (and inaccurate) information about the Carlton Super Sevens series. I have added a summary section within the Sri Lanka Sevens page and included each season's results there. All the teams were previously redlinks only and, being defunct and borderline notable, they are now unlinked.
Would you have any time or interest for creating/updating/linking the insufficient content? -- Ham105 (talk) 08:30, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, thanks for your explanation. However I am not convinced, I don't find anything wrong with red links, in fact red links such as Dialog Rugby League help grow the subject, it will exists sooner or later, and it is of high importance to the article and topic. Dialog Rugby League is also the main premier rugby competition in Sri Lanka hence why it should be on the first one listed. Also related information, such as tournaments, should not be separated within the article, all related info should be grouped together regardless of being current or defunct. Also I didn't remove any citations, only condense them as your citations are taking up too many lines. I have been editing Sri Lankan rugby related articles for years now, and btw thanks for expanding the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's article, but I only have time to maintain the articles these days. I think the article at its present is somewhat messy and doesn't even include full details of of the Sevens tournament, as the Sri Lanka Sevens has its lineage in the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's as well as the Carlton era, as you yourself know. It is really the history of 1 tournament. Looking forward to your reply.--Blackknight12 (talk) 04:16, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for responding.
Okay, I have made a copyedit which I think – with some good faith – should satisfactorily resolve the infobox/redlink question.
- For the infobox, I have moved the Dialog Rugby League up to be first on the list. Have also used a valid link to the relevant subsection on the same page. There is still a redlink for the Dialog Rugby League – at the top of that section – as a prompt to a (future) main article page.
- Please refer to the Wikipedia Manual of Style at WP:INFOBOXUSE which says:
- Like navigation templates, infoboxes should: ... Avoid redlinks.
- Redlinks are okay (in moderation) within the main article. But as first said, redlinks are deprecated on the navigational features of the encyclopedia, including infoboxes. Essentially, the norm is for an article to be created first, and then listed.
- Regarding the Serendib Cup and Carlton Super Sevens; these are no longer competitions – they are history. The information has now been moved to the history section. However, a short mention of each tournament is retained under the respective international and domestic competition sections. For each, this is followed by a link to the main article (in the case of the Seredib Cup), or to the relevent section within the Sri Lanka Sevens article (in the case of the Carlton Super Sevens).
- The red entries left earlier in the reference section are a matter of record. Kindly check the revision for yourself – but let's move on because I have moved those citation details now to the reference section. That text can now be more easily read when editing. Also note that condensing citations within the main text makes the code harder to read.
- To your final comments: Thank you. I would rate the Sri Lanka Sevens article now as C class. The Rugby union in Sri Lanka article is probably Start class only. I suspect it might have problems with a Copy vio test due to previous edits, but I don't have time to open that can of worms today. Further work is needed.
Okay. Satisfied with this? -- Ham105 (talk) 04:38, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
