Notification of automated file description generation

Your upload of File:Buddy Holly 07-02-2008 08;41;14PM.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! The article Talmadge L. Heflin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG. Not every Texas legislator is inherently notable, nor inherently a subject for a Wikipedia biography of a living person. Perhaps this is list fodder but, in the absence of any response to the 2009 tag requesting citations to reliable sources, enough is enough.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I've tried to help by assessing your edits so far and making some suggestions in reply to your talk page comment here.
I hope they're helpful. I'm really not trying to jerk your chain. David in DC (talk) 20:41, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
The PROD notice has been taken down by another editor. You can see his rationale in his edit summary and in a converstion of the article's talk page. Once a PROD notice comes down, it cannot be put back up, although the reason asserted for taking it down is, in my view, dubious. Be that as it may, please consider participating in this AfD discussion: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Talmadge_L._Heflin. I imagine you'd want to oppose it. You are doing:

The publisher field only contains the publisher, not all the rest. The correct way is:

publisher=Pelican Publishing Company |location=Gretna, Louisiana | date=2009 | pages=80-89 | isbn=9781-58980-655-9

Never put anything after the 'ISBN' except for the number. See the difference

Concord, New Hampshire images

Hi there! I wanted you to know that I have removed several images you added to the Concord, New Hampshire article. Images of significant buildings or architecture should show more than just the front entrance. Thank you! Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 18:46, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Excessive addition of photos

Greetings. As I have indicated in edit summaries, I see you overloading article after article with inappropriate and excessive numbers of photographs. Please read—and heed—the entire section found here, especially the long message by Beyond My Ken (beginning with "Yes, we are not an image gallery, we are an encyclopedia"), which I think applies to you nearly 100%. "Ken" makes some excellent points and suggestions that I hope you will take to heart. Hertz1888 (talk) 15:29, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Ways to improve Pat M. Baskin

Hi, I'm TheMagikCow. Billy Hathorn, thanks for creating Pat M. Baskin!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This is a good article but please can there be references towards the top?

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. TheMagikCow (talk) 19:50, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Harbor Church, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.conservapedia.com/Harbor_Church.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 04:08, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Harbor Church requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.conservapedia.com/Harbor_Church. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Tchaliburton (talk) 04:20, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Again with your summaries...

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. Ways to improve Flying A Productions

Hi, I'm Teblick. Billy Hathorn, thanks for creating Flying A Productions!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. As I mentioned in my other comment, IMDB is not considered acceptable for Wikipedia citations. You might try Google Books to see if some sources turn up there.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Eddie Blick (talk) 02:24, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Suggestions for research on Flying A Productions

Try this search on Google Books: https://www.google.com/search?num=50&newwindow=1&tbs=bkv%3Af&tbm=bks&q=%22Flying+A+Productions%22&oq=%22Flying+A+Productions%22&gs_l=serp.3...13962.16061.0.16865.12.9.0.0.0.1.314.849.1j1j1j1.4.0....0...1c.1.51.serp..12.0.0.q5FCMHaz1Fg It looks as though some of the issues of Billboard could be useful.

Also try the search page at http://mediahistoryproject.org/broadcasting/. It searches a number of old publications related to radio, TV and movies.

If you want more sources to try, check my user page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Teblick/Online_Resources_for_Old-Time_Radio_Research. It's designed with old-time radio in mind, but many of the sources can be useful for TV, too. Eddie Blick (talk) 02:38, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

IMDb as reference

Billy, IMDb should not generally be used as a source for biographical information. You've done so on many articles such as Rico Alaniz and Ben Cooper. Instead of using the movie site as an inline citation, put it in the External Links section as a complementary reference. Also, it's not necessary to mention every single part they've played in the main text. That's what the Filmography list is for. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to ask. OscarL 10:17, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Billy Hathorn. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Clegg Hoyt, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 18:12, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Clegg Hoyt

The article Clegg Hoyt has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Please DO NOT remove the notice. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 18:14, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello again. Please add inlined references for each sentence that you add to this page. There was a major problem with lack of inlined references before I fixed it yesterday, and now it's back again in the parts you've added. So please don't do that. To be frank, it is very annoying to see that you failed to add inlined references and did not discuss the issue [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:John_Horton_Slaughter on the talkpage. Are references 6 and 7 valid for all your added sentences, and if so, which ones are backed up by 6 and which ones by 7?Zigzig20s (talk) 15:20, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

I have removed your "hangon" template, which would only apply if speedy deletion were proposed. What is on this article is a "Proposed deletion" template, which would not be actioned for seven days, and which you, or anyone, may remove if you disagree with deletion - the template itself says "You may remove this message if you improve the article or otherwise object to deletion for any reason". The user who placed the template may then choose to nominate the page at WP:Articles for deletion, but that would start a discussion lasting seven days, to which you would be welcome to contribute. I'm not sure why an editor of your long history isn't familiar with Wikipedia's guidelines. Hello. I am trying to understand what this picture you took is. Is it a small prison or store that was on the ranch and has been moved to the museum in Lubbock? If so, I'd like to add it to the page I've just created about the Waggoner Ranch. However, I am not sure. Is there a weblink that explains what it is on the website of the museum that you could find? Duplicate pages

Just an FYI that I recently found two duplicate pages you created. A few days ago, you created Ron Reynolds (Texas politician). That's a duplicate of Ron Reynolds (Texas), which has been a page since November 2013. I then found that on December 1 of this year, you created two duplicate pages back-to-back, the only difference being the spelling of the page titles. They were Koni Burton and Konni Burton (I'm not sure what happened here since you created them both on the same day). I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia but think it would be wise if you did a more thorough search for existing articles before creating new ones. Champaign Supernova (talk) 05:25, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

I created the Dec. 12 article Ron Reynolds (Texas politician) but not the short one Ron Reynolds (politician) from November 2013. I did not find the short one when I created the new one. I left a message on the talk page explaining that. The correct spelling is Konni Burton. The first one "Koni" was a typo. I also explained that on the talk page. I do not know how to correct such mistakes. Perhaps you know how to throw out the two that should be dropped. Thank you and my apology for the errors.Billy Hathorn (talk) 11:23, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
I see that you explained the typo in the article's title (Koni Burton) on the talk page, but no one was going to see that because it was a newly created article. It wasn't on anyone's watch list. If something like this happens in the future, I think you should go to the Wikipedia help page, the village pump, or the talk page of an administrator and explain the situation. Then it can be handled swiftly by someone who knows what to do. As for Ron Reynolds, if you Google "Ron Reynolds Texas," both of our Wikipedia pages on him come up. That tells me that if you'd done that prior to creating your article on him, you would have found that we already have one via a quick Google search. When you're going to create an article in the future, in addition to looking for a pre-existing article on Wikipedia, I'd recommend using a search engine. If you'd looked on this page first (Texas House of Representatives), you also would have seen that Ron Reynolds was already linked to an existing article before you created yours. Champaign Supernova (talk) 17:23, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Duplicate Articles

Please do not create duplicate articles about the same person using different forms of their name, such as Koni Burton and Konni Burton, both of which you created this month. That is not the way that Wikipedia handles name issues. We use Redirects instead. Creating duplicate articles inevitably introduces discrepancies, as different edits are made to different articles. Considerable work is then required to merge the articles. You also created an article Ron Reynolds (Texas politician) that appears to be a copy of Ron Reynolds (Texas). Please read about redirects and use them rather than creating duplicate articles. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:26, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Ron Reynolds (Texas politician) is full article; Ron Reynolds (politician) is or was a short stub. I did not know the stub existed when I created the article. The Konni Burton article was mistakenly put there twice, after "Koni" was mistyped the first time. I could not get the redirect to work for the Burton article. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Don Jones (Louisiana politician) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Don Jones (Louisiana politician) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:21, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Friendly suggestion

Hi Billy, you are a great article writer, and you've made a lot of great contributions to Wikipedia. However, you need to pay more attention to WP:NPOL criteria, especially the sections about "non-trivial" and "extensive" media coverage. While some subjects make the cut easily (state and federal legislators, for instance), I've had to nominate a number of articles you've created about minor political figures for deletion, and I feel bad about your wasted time on such articles. One suggestion you might want to consider; for articles where the notability of the subject isn't solid, try first submitting a draft to WP:AfC. That way you can get feedback from others before committing more time to an article that might not make the cut. Cheers, OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:32, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Chris Ullo of Jefferson Parish, LA.jpeg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Chris Ullo of Jefferson Parish, LA.jpeg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 19:40, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gene S. Walker, Sr. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. reddogsix (talk) 03:12, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on File:Texas rancher Gene S. Walker, Sr.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.joejacksonfuneralchapels.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=1504684.

Replaceable fair use File:Texas rancher Gene S. Walker, Sr.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Texas rancher Gene S. Walker, Sr.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 04:28, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

I've declined the pseudo speedy as you added (a bit of) a Fair Use Rationale - I've added the proper template - could you please fill in the details (add after the various "=" signs) - note the reason for replaceable section needs to be "no - deceased". We need it done this way as each use of the image needs it's own template with the article name (at the moment there is only one page to use - some images do run to several) Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:41, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:George Nattin, Jr., playing golf.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:George Nattin, Jr., playing golf.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:36, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Would like your input

Hey Billy. I saw the overzealous deletion policies that were trying to wipe out small town history. There's similar overzealousness and harshness going on in this discussion I'm involved in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Florescu_brothers If you want to give your thoughts, you'd have my thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paperpencils (talkcontribs) 19:16, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Consuelo Raymond Kazen of Laredo, TX.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

Information icon Hello, I'm CaroleHenson. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Floyd D. Culbertson, Jr.‎, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. CaroleHenson (talk) 22:31, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Douglas was not a sibling of Floyd Culbertson, Jr., but the son by the second marriage. The three brothers were John Grier Culbertson (1905–1977), Roy Culbertson (1911-1996), and James Edward "Jim" Culbertson, whose years of birth and death are not available. Billy Hathorn (talk) 22:41, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
Yep, I got that. I am not sure if you saw my comment on the Articles for Deletion page for the article:
  • " Do you have a source other than ancestry.com for that? I'm not sure that you're aware, but the link that you provided goes to a page that was built by ancestry.com users. Yes, it's likely based upon primary sources, but there are issues in extrapolation of that data, that's why encyclopedia articles look to secondary sources for reliable sources. Genealogical data quality, particularly by individual contributors vs. trained genealogists, can be quite poor in some cases, and for that reason met with suspicion."--CaroleHenson (talk) 22:35, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Regarding your point that the information was in the parent's obituaries: Did you see "Culbertson had a sister and brothers Douglas, Jim and Roy.[3][5][b]" that came from the mother's obitaries?" in the Background section? I'll correct Douglas.--CaroleHenson (talk) 23:04, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Something else I found: The mother Mary Culbertson (1887-1977) died in Minden in September 1977 four days after the death of oldest son, John Grier Culbertson. He was buried in Tarrant County probably the day before his mother died in Minden. She was interred beside her husband, Floyd, Sr., in Minden. The "Douglas" should be John Grier Culbertson, the oldest son. Floyd, Jr.,'s middle name was Douglas, which was also the first name of his son by the second marriage. The only source I had on Douglas being born in CA is the one I cited from the ancestry.com. The Princeton source (and he was not in law school there but undergraduate school) said he was 25 at the time of his death and told about his being from Tulsa. Billy Hathorn (talk) 23:21, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Yep, I made a mistake when I was editing Douglas (the son) info - but I later corrected it, right? What is your source for the sequence of Mary and John's deaths? I'll go ahead and add John.--CaroleHenson (talk) 23:33, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
Find a grave has John G. Culbertson dying on September 15, 1977. His pictured tombstone at Moore Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Tarrant County has only 1977. Minden Press-Herald had his mother Mary (1887-1997) dying on September 19, 1977. Billy Hathorn (talk) 00:04, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Is there something in one of Mary's obituaries about dying after her son?--CaroleHenson (talk) 00:16, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
I don't believe it is, or I would have caught that then instead of just today because it is unusual. I have noticed that obits often don't mention that other family members have just died too. I don't know why. So Floyd, Jr., lost a brother, mother, and only son, within a year from 1977 to 1978.Billy Hathorn (talk) 00:49, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Wow, that's a lot! I think I've read that you can use photographs of gravestones as sources, but it seems to me that there's still some issue with using findagrave as a source for that, but I'll check around on the Wikipedia:Reliable sources noticeboard and a couple of other places.--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:13, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Not looking good at this posting - which has an issue with it coming from findagrave and being a primary source
This more recent posting - has issue with it as a primary source and states that images of gravestones still need to be published by a reliable secondary source for proper identification / context.
That's what I'm finding, and it seems so clear-cut that I stopped doing any more searching.--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:24, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks so much, Carole, for all the work you did on the Culbertson article. You managed to save it! I got so bogged down in it that I could not see the forest for the trees. Billy Hathorn (talk) 02:49, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
