Categories

[edit]

Hi, thanks for adding categories to articles. However, please note that categories work in hierarchies. The guideline WP:SUBCAT explains, "articles belonging to such a subcategory should not be placed in the parent category also." So forts in Maharashtra should not also be categorised in Category:Forts in India. - Fayenatic (talk) 08:04, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will remove the Forts in India category. Thanks for the info! --Belasd (talk) 08:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since I have not reverted, I do not have any objections to removal of previous image, anyway it was low quality. Good work. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:06, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Samuel Stockhausen

[edit]

Thank you for patrolling this new page.

I realize that what you added was a generic template, but I wonder if you have specific items in mind that need verification that I could work on?

I did cite two fairly recent, and accessible articles that discuss Stockhausen's work. Do you consider these references to be unreliable? How many citations would be adequate?

I will watch this page for a reply.

--AJim (talk) 20:10, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I found the article interesting(I am a biologist :)) so I went through the references of Samuel Stockhausen. But two of them were in another language. One lead to a Pubmed abstract(Chronological history of occupational medicine) which did not mention him which when I clicked through I could not access the article. The other Pubmed abstract mentioned him in passing.
But a Google search showed that he was notable. I felt that if he was so notable perhaps better references can be added. like a book perhaps? or a direct link to one of the articles (since it is freely available in Pubmed Central). I tend to expect more from medical science related articles esp as this person looks important. I hope this clears things up. I will probably work on the article sometime later too. --Belasd (talk) 20:38, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Found another book ref.--Belasd (talk) 20:41, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I am still learning how to get useful references. I found the first reference in Eisinger's history of colica pictonum, which mentions Stockhausen (p 295) and said that Gockel credited Stockhausen with supplying key evidence to show that the wine disease was lead poisoning. I do not think Stockhausen's book is available in English. I added the two alchemy database links to show that the original Latin books existed. The Gochfeld article is more interested in Ramazzini, but does mention Stockhausen.
I have seen several reviews of the Nriagu book (Lead and Lead Poisoning in Antiquity, Wiley 1983 pp437), including one by Eisinger (Lead in history and history in lead, Nature V 307 p 573 9 Feb 1984), but the book itself seems hard to find. Both reviewers were very negative about the apparent claim by Nriagu in the last chapter that lead poisoning "caused" the fall of the Roman Empire, which probably hurt sales. However, it appears that this book is filled with other fascinating information about the long history of lead.
Please add more references to the article. I too believe that this history is important. It seems clear that the lesson of the dangers of lead have had to be relearned fairly often, and this might help prevent more lapses. --AJim (talk) 21:12, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RBI

[edit]

Well, you know how the Americans think they're the only ones alive on this planet, so most of the things online, go according to their whims and fancies.
So, I thought, let's be a bit fair.
RBI, redirects to Run Batted In, which as we all know is a baseball term, and baseball is an American sport.
Sometime back, a vote was held to redirect it to the disambig page. Someone said, English is NOT a primary language of India, and hence there should be preference to non-Indian artices.
The Americans voted and made the article redirect to Run Batted In, so I feel, we should all have another vote.
So, please vote, on whether you support or oppose the redirect to RBI (disambiguation) rather than Run batted in.
The earlier debate can be found at Talk:RBI (disambiguation).
The new poll can be found at Talk:RBI
Regards,

Chor Bazaar

[edit]

{{help me}} I am working on Chor Bazaar (an area in Mumbai). However two IP addresses persistently insert external links into the article which lead to a T-shirt company. When I went through the article history it seemed to me that he/she had added external links on 13 occasions (by my count). The T-shirt company has nothing to do with the Mumbai neighbourhood and is not even based in Mumbai. I and other users have warned the IP addresses several times. I want to know if this is sufficient reason to request that his/her IP addresses be blocked? --Belasd (talk) 18:34, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you feel like doing a little editing feel free, right now it is just some old stuff that we paisted in from other articles.

As to why my talk page has been blanked(vandalized), not really sure, being stalked by some really nasty little trolls I suppose that went in and deleted it, because they don't like it that I am doing research on Hamilton's original conception of a quaternion. Maths rating template

[edit]

When you add the maths rating template to a talk page, please fill in all three parameters class=, importance=, field=. There is already a List of mathematics articles that does not require tagging talk pages, so the only purpose of the talk page tag is for assessment data. — Carl (CBM · talk) 00:07, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is this about the Tensor of a quaternion article? I came across the article when I was patrolling new pages. I tagged it as I wanted to get some Math expert to look at it as I could not decide whether it was OR, nonsense or something genuine. Anyways, I will keep in mind not to use this template next time. --Belasd (talk) 01:47, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is not about the AFD. I was looking through a list of articles that had incomplete tags on their talk pages, and your name appeared. Anyone is welcome to use the maths rating template, but please fill in all three parameters if you do.
By the way, if you would like a math expert to look at an article, please leave a note at WT:WPM, which is heavily watched, and we'll be glad to look at it. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:00, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Essel World, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Improved

[edit]

Looking better already. I'd suggest de-emphasising how you get to it, and emphasising without spamming what's special over other parks. If refs that are online are possible, one or two would help. Not compulsory, but Google Books stuff doesn't always come up with the pages you want when you want them. The Asia Times ref is just a throwaway mention, and the one from The Hindu is more about parks in general. Reliable sources, but if you can find something more about this park it would be a great improvement. Peridon (talk) 20:59, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Speedy deletion nomination of Pant Pratinidhi

[edit]

Hello Belasd,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Pant Pratinidhi for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Unblock request

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Belasd (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I am not sure why I have been blocked. I did not get a notice. I have been on wikipedia for a while. My contributions may have dropped recently but when I feel it is appropriate I made a few edits. Please look into my case. The person who blocked me did not even give me a warning or I would have stopped whatever it is that they found so offensive. Belasd (talk) 04:32, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

The block message suggests the blocking admin, who has access to the checkuser tool, found using it enough evidence to lead him to believe that you are another editor using this account. — Daniel Case (talk) 07:35, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

In response to your email, since I am not a checkuser I can't look at that data. I suggest you get in touch with Doug Weller who made the block. Daniel Case (talk) 06:11, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agh. I know I replied but maybe I didn’t save it. I’ve decided that the evidence you are misusing multiple accounts is fairly good but given your few edits I decided to unblock anyway. I unblocked you when you contacted me. By the way, when we find socking we usually just block. No need for warnings. Doug Weller talk 21:37, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Daniel Case for the suggestion.
Thank you @Doug Weller for considering my request.
Happy to have my wikipedia account back. Someday I will get back to active editing. I hope. Belasd (talk) 11:45, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
