Welcome!

Hi, BRMo/Archive 1, Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello, and welcome to the ranks of Wikipedians! My name is BorgHunter, one of very many administrators around here, and let me be the first to welcome you here. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page. And don't worry—you may well have a bunch of questions after that avalanche of info I just threw at you. Yeah, Wikipedia has a bit of a culture and etiquette of its own, but you get used to it!

Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using four tildes (~~~~). Using the four tildes to sign your sig is policy whenever you make comments on a talk page or vote on something.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • You should also consider (if you have not already) creating a user page for yourself, to tell us a bit about you. Don't worry if it's small at first -- most people tend to grow their user pages over a period of time, much like Wikipedia articles. Don't expect everything to happen all at once!
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the articles for deletion page. If you think a page should be moved to a different title, please list it at requested moves.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any problems or questions. Alternatively, you can place "{{helpme}}" on your user talk page (this page), and someone will arrive shortly to answer your questions. Good luck, and happy wiki-ing!

Thank you, BorgHunter. I appreciate your assistance.-- BRMo 14:20, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Welcome

Hi -welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed your edits to Mormon handcart pioneers. If you are interested in topics relating to the Latter Day Saint movement, I would encourage you to look over the project page Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement. The group has established naming guidelines and other criteria and maintains a number of pages coordinating LDS topics. Look forward to working with you. WBardwin 11:01, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you, WBardwin, for the welcome and the reference to the project page. I'd be interested in doing some more work on LDS-history topics within the context of the history of the American West. I probably won't be contributing to articles on topics like doctrine and theology.—BRMo 22:06, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good. Two related topics needing help are Mormon Trail and Mormon Battalion. Look forward to working with you. WBardwin 04:23, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Your supported nomination, Mormon trail, has been selected as the April 2006 Mormon Collaboration of the month. I look forward to your help with improving the article! Also, if you'd like, I'd appreciate it if you'd add your name to the list of participants in the Mormon Collaboration project. uriah923(talk) 17:06, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Your nomination has been selected for the August 2006 Mormon collaboration: Mormon handcart pioneers. I look forward to working with you to improve the article. --uriah923(talk) 15:29, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Mormon Handcarts

You are weclome. Good luck. --CTSWyneken(talk) 09:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the brevity :-) References should follow Footnotes, and you can find a sample of referenced notables at Sociological and cultural aspects of Tourette syndrome. The same standards apply to notables as to any other text: we need proof it's true :-) Sandy 02:18, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Mormon handcart pioneers

I noticed that you changed "The emigrants from the first two ships, about 815 in number..." to "About 815 emigrants from the first two ships". The newer version implies that not all of the emigrants went with the handcart companies, is this intentional? --Lethargy 02:29, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Excellent. Very good article BTW, but before I support the nomination, I need to read it again since I haven't read it all the way through since it was the Mormon COTW. I need to stop procrastinating and get that done. --Lethargy 02:46, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Update: It might be good to add that info about the people that dropped out. Also, I hope I am not being too nitpicky with requesting sources (see my comments at the FAC page), I'll leave it up to you whether or not to add them. --Lethargy 03:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Just a note: I lost your last message as I was archiving my talk page, but I'll have another look tomorrow. Sandy 04:02, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

I looked over the article again this morning, and it's really looking fine. I have one small issue, but since I don't know Wiki policy on this, I'm not entering it on the FAC page. I did some research, and can't determine if this is an actionable objection. I hate seeing ibid on Wiki articles for the following reason: theoretically, you might not be around forever, watching the article, and others may insert content in the future. Wiki is not static. If someone inserts a referenced comment between the original cite and the ibid, the ibid becomes incorrect. This can easily happen in the dynamic environment of Wiki. I'd much rather see all ibid entries changed to reflect the dynamic nature of Wiki, such as:

  • Hafen and Hafen (1981), pp. 143-144.
  • Hafen and Hafen (1981), pp. 148-149, 193.
  • Hafen and Hafen (1981), pp. 153-164.

That will make for a more stable article in the long run, and assure that none of your hard work citing the article correctly will be inadvertently lost by a future edit. Sandy 18:57, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Great work

I was going to add one of those awards people hand out to each other on Wikipedia, but I'm not entirely sure how to do that. Anyway, I just thought I should say that you have made some fantastic edits, and your hard --and exceptional-- work is appreciated. You're a much better writer than I am. Keep up the great work. --Lethargy 04:36, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

The Epic Barnstar
For your tireless efforts with the Mormon handcart pioneers article, I present you with The Epic Barnstar. Lethargy 23:29, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

LDS Church articles

I need the input of another editor for a few articles, if you get the time:

  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - I'm not sure what specifically needs to be done to have a more neutral and formal tone, but something definitely bothers me. If you are familiar with the subject, citations are also badly needed everywhere in the article. I want to bring this up to a point that I wouldn't be embarrassed to present it for peer review.
  • Temple Square - rather short, but I am not sure what specifically needs to be added, how to break it into sections, or what reliable sources I can use.

If you do get the time, you can post on the articles' respective talk pages or on my own talk page.--Lethargy 23:23, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Mormon Pioneer

Mormon Pioneer has been moved to Mormon pioneers. The move didn't show up on my watchlist, so I'm just giving you the heads up in case you missed it. --Lethargy 00:26, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Update: I have also submitted this article for the Mormon COTM, with a goal of having this featured on the front page for Pioneer Day 2007, the 160th anniversary of the first company's entry into the valley. See: Wikipedia:Mormon collaboration/Mormon pioneers. --Lethargy 00:16, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Mormon handcart pioneers

no problem - sorry I couldn't be more helpd during the day. I felt alot of frustration over the merge request but it is over now. Thought I'd also say thx for all your efforts as well - working with people like you is what keeps me from just abandoning --Trödel 02:17, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I am translating the article Mormon handcart pioneers into Chinese. I wanna know abuot the title of a book listed in the references, which is "Hafen and Hafen". What does "Hafen" mean in this case? Does it refer to "heaven"? Or does it mean "harbor" in the German language? Looking forward to your reply. :) -- Jerry Crimson Mann 12:32, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
