3 Kanya help!
I have recently learned that the film 3 Kanya was banned in a Government theatre in Kolkata. I am not sure if we should add this information in the article. At least two newspapers have covered it The Times of India, IBNLive. So, RS should not be a problem! The important question is if we add then how and where? We do not have any section on "Controversy" etc! Any idea? --Tito Dutta (talk) 05:26, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- Pardon the brevity, I'm on a mobile. I'd say start a Controversy section explaining why the film was banned and by whom. That's certainly notable information. I considered that it might belong in a Reception section, along with reviews, but using Borat as an example, I think Controversy is the way to go. --BDD (talk) 17:11, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, thank you! I am not confident to start a controversy section (he header) since it'll have only 2 or 3 sentences! I am not seeing anything related to TWL here, are you applying for WP:TWL --Tito Dutta (talk) 06:59, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- O, I don't think so. "Many reliable sources are hidden behind expensive paywalls, only accessible through select schools, universities, or employers," but since I work for an academic library, I have access to many of those sources through my university/employer. I generally don't feel that lack of resources is a barrier to my editing. I'm happy to share information as available. --BDD (talk) 22:02, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Not lack of resource, lack of content might be a problem! :-D we have only 1 sentence in hand: the film was banned from screening at a Government theatre in Calcutta. We have open RS. Links in my first post in this section! --Tito Dutta (talk) 22:22, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Was I canvassing?
At User_talk:Emmette_Hernandez_Coleman#Second_warning it looked to someone like I was canvassing when I informed people who participated in Talk:Palestinian National Authority#Organization or Place? of Talk:Elections in the Palestinian_National Authority#Requested move. Do you think I was canvassing? I'm asking because if looked to someone like I was, It's probably best to get an opinion other then my own (please respond on my talk page). What did you mean by "Organization"
At Talk:Palestinian_National_Authority#Organization_or_Place.3F there seams to be some confusion over weather by "organization" you meant "an autonomous geopolitical entity with specific territory - similar to Hong Kong", or if you meant an "organization" like the Government of Hong Kong or the Kurdistan Regional Government". Could you clarify please? Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 02:59, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Mentoring a new editor
Hello, BDD. I am hoping to edit copy here at Wikipedia. I am quite daunted by the whole "getting-started" thing. Could you be my mentor? Are you still available? Cellequilit (talk) 23:37, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- Certainly! I'm still wrapping up my Thanksgiving holiday, however, so I'll get back to you about how to proceed tomorrow or Monday. Will you watch here or should I contact you on your talk page? --BDD (talk) 18:49, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
- Either way works...I got the orange message strip on my page when I signed on, which then linked here. Thanks for taking the time to reply during the holiday. :) Cellequilit (talk) 02:36, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, I've created your mentorship page at User:BDD/Mentorship/Cellequilit. As you'll see there, the first step will be figuring out what you want from the mentorship. --BDD (talk) 18:20, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Sorry to be late!!
I know it's been two weeks, but I replied to your questions at Talk:Haibun some time ago. I was initially too bothered by the immediate attacks my response received from the WP:COI/WP:SPA/WP:HOUND Tristan noir, and failed to notify you directly of my response. Basically, he posted an article on Wikipedia that cited a Woodward book that had not even been published yet, and while he claimed the article was based on verifiable, objective facts, he protested when I deleted the inaccurate Woodward publications and asked him to find secondary sources. On the Haibun article itself, I proposed a compromise in which one link stays and the other, since it contains inaccurate/offensive statements, gets deleted; he complained that this was not an acceptable compromise. He was therefore clearly not interested in building an encyclopedia article, but in advertising the Jeffrey Woodward link.
Additionally, the mere fact that he created the "tanka prose" article is itself circumstantial evidence that he is linked to Mr. Woodward, since no one other than Woodward and his cronies have ever heard of "tanka prose", which Woodward made up sometime between winter 2007 and August 2008 (which is when Tristan noir posted the article on Wikipedia).

DYK for Kim Wyman
On 28 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Kim Wyman, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that when she is inaugurated as Secretary of State of Washington in January, Kim Wyman will be the only Republican elected to statewide office on the West Coast of the United States? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kim Wyman. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Requested move
Thanks for your message. I've deleted the move request from the talk page for now, as I want to reconsider my view on the best name. Do I need to update any other pages i.e. did the bot do anything, or did the lack of the right format prevent that? SP-KP (talk) 20:32, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- The bot listed the move, but it erroneously ended up on the bottom of the backlog. With the RM template removed, the bot should take care of removing it. --BDD (talk) 20:34, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
Jason Jones (activist/filmmaker)
Just wanted to give you a heads up that I removed the POV tag you placed at Jason Jones (activist/filmmaker), as you didn't include a talk page explanation. I did remove a bit of egregiously non-neutral phrasing at the same time, so perhaps it no longer needs one, but thought you might want to take another look. Cheers, -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:39, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

GOCE November drive wrap-up
Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up
Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 56 requests outstanding before November 2012 as well as eight of those made in November. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the October 2012 competition, and prizes have been issued. The November 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The December 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote. Coodinator election: The six-month term for our fourth tranche of Guild coordinators will expire at the end of December. Nominations are open for the fifth tranche of coordinators, who will serve from 1 January to 30 June 2013. Disambiguation link notification for December 4
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Queen bee (sociology), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Peer (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Grupo Bimbo
I have made a few changes to the article. Also see two new headings on talk page for article--things I intend to do when I learn how.
Is leaving a message here how I should contact you, by the way? Cellequilit (talk) 19:48, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, this is fine; I'm still watching the mentorship page if you'd like to use that.
- So far so good on your edits. You added a stray character with this diff. It's not a content error, of course, but it's not something you want to do. Don't be shy about using the preview function, if you don't already—I find I only make mistakes when I skip it. ;)
- I'll show you how to do the changes you indicated on the talk page in a little while; I'll make a new section on the mentorship page. I've also moved one of those talk page sections. Talk page guidelines say that new sections should always go at the bottom of a page. It's not a huge mistake, but it can result in minor errors, such as when the page is archived. --BDD (talk) 20:06, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for looking at my work. I will start using the Show Changes button after I preview, to highlight such overlooked strays.Cellequilit (talk) 15:04, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
- Also, correction to the talk page, guidelines noted.
- It appears I won't be able to be online here every day, after all. I hope that's ok. Cellequilit (talk) 15:18, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Template:Islamophobia image
Hey BDD, I've replied to your comment at Template talk:Islamophobia#Image. I should have made myself clearer. In no way did I mean to seriously suggest using the Eurabia flag image in the template. I was just using it as a point of reference for how unacceptable the currently used image is. --87.79.214.131 (talk) 21:27, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for closing the discussion. Did you consider the issue of the redirects? Four editors expressed an opinion that they should be deleted, and there was no dissenting voice. Do they need a separate deletion discussion? StAnselm (talk) 23:31, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, good point. Would you object to their existence if the page was moved into W space as an essay? I think the idea of redirects into userspace were the only reason people were really objecting to them. --BDD (talk) 23:33, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
- No, I would not object to their existence in that case, but I would object to the essay being moved to W space. I note that at least four of the keep !votes were predicated on the fact that this was in userspace. StAnselm (talk) 23:41, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
- Now I'm not sure if the redirects should just go to RFD or if I should just reopen the discussion and leave it to an admin. Without the redirects named in the nomination, however, the admin could also overlook them. --BDD (talk) 23:46, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
- I guess you could re-open it with a comment about the redirects. StAnselm (talk) 00:02, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

5. Islamic view of Ishmael → Ismail and Ismail → Ismail (disambiguation)
6. Islamic view of Isaac → Ishaq

9. Job (prophet) → Ayub and Ayub → Ayub (disambiguation)
10. Islamic view of Moses → Musa and Musa → Musa (disambiguation)
11. Islamic view of Aaron → Harun and Harun → Harun (disambiguation)
12. Islamic view of David → Dawood
13. Islamic view of Solomon → Sulayman

15. Islamic view of Jonah → Yunus and merge Yunus and Yunus (disambiguation) both disambiguation pages.
16. Jesus in Islam → Isa and Isa → Isa (disambiguation)

Forgot rename Maniwaki
Hello there, now the result of the Maniwaki, Quebec article was "moved" at the talk page but the comma-province name was still there. Could you go to the Maniwaki, Quebec article and fix the title to it's new title "Maniwaki" without the comma-province name e.g. ", Quebec" The result says moved. If you could do that that would be great. OK? Thanks. Steam5 (talk) 21:56, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. I'm not an administrator, and since the current redirect at Maniwaki had more than one edit, I wasn't able to move the page myself. I've tagged it with a template, however, which will cause an administrator to delete the redirect that is holding up the move, at which point either I or the administrator will make the move. Don't worry—I've got the page on my watchlist. I'd be very surprised if it isn't moved later today. Thanks, BDD (talk) 21:58, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Mentorship
Hey BDD,I was wondering if you had some time for a new pupil? I'm pretty new to the whole copy-editing concept but my little pleasure in life is spelling and grammar errors (or catching phrases that were lost in translation). Think you can help me out? GOCE Coordinator
Congratulations on becoming a coordinator! As you probably already know, the main tasks involve making sure all the pages are kept up to date and properly organized. If you haven't already, add WP:GOCE/COORD to your watchlist, since that's where we can consult with each other on administrative questions. I'm working on putting together a task list to make it easier to remember all the little details of project maintenance. Let me know if you have any questions. —Torchiest talkedits 14:26, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- Here is the task list I'm working on. —Torchiest talkedits 15:18, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, boss. I'll see to those daily tasks. Let me know if you're ever assigning tasks to specific coordinators. I may need to be talked through the drive updating, which I haven't done before. --BDD (talk) 19:07, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Whitney & Humphrey Smith
Hi BDD, I was the last editor to comment on the status of Whitney Motorsports and Phil Parsons Racing. I talked to User:The Bushranger about the issue on the WikiPRoject NASCAR talk page, and he seemed to agre. Court documents from a lawsuit involving a former HP Racing member and Phil Parson and Randy Humphrey stated that HP itself had been bought out by Parsons and was merged with Whitney Motorsports into the present PPR. Randy Humphrey and Mark Smith teamed up to form HSM, a new team. So I would like this to be re opened for discusion, but I am unsure of how to gain the attention of the NASCAr wikipedia community.Gaeaman787 (talk) 01:35, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Pardon, I'm not entirely sure what you'd like to have done. Do you want to create an article about the new team, merge the existing articles, both, or something else? I'll help if I can. --BDD (talk) 19:03, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'd like the Humphrey-Smith page moved to Phil Parsons Racing (since PPR is a continuation of Prism/HP) and the Whitney Motorsports page merged into the Phil Parsons Racing page. A new page should be created for Humphrey-Smith Motorspots.Gaeaman787 (talk) 19:09, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- So you'll want to start an WP:RM at Talk:Humphrey Smith Motorsports to move it to Phil Parsons Racing. You can also tag Whitney Motorsports for merging. You can probably do the latter boldly on your own, but if you'd like to wait for consensus, you could let the Humphrey Smith RM play out. And since Humphrey-Smith Motorspots is a redlink, you can create the page yourself. I'm not sure how you could get the attention of the WikiProject, but you could always leave notification on their talk page about the RM. Sound good? Let me know if you want help with any of these procedures. --BDD (talk) 19:16, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

RM
Pondicherry RM is an important one (there seems to be some confusion already). I have posted at India noticeboard. You can start RM request of Bangalore to Bengaluru, that is in my task list for last few months. But, that might be a difficult one. Please see this October 2012 discussion --Tito Dutta (talk) 21:18, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well, my point was that I hadn't heard Bengaluru before, so I'd be a poor choice for starting an RM for Bangalore. I wouldn't necessarily be against it, but my feeling right now is that Bangalore is the common name in English. --BDD (talk) 21:21, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- When 1) Government has changed the name 2) all leading newspapers are happily using the name, we are still using the old name, because we care for C"Common name" which most probably means a large number of people who don't read newspapers or watch news channels and still think and call the city "Bangalore" per their own knowledge. I am damn sure in houses of many of these people you'll find the calendar with year "2012". Either they have forgotten to change calendar or they think that is "COMMONYEAR". --Tito Dutta (talk) 21:29, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
You've created a bad disambiguation because the older person is best known for his activities as a soldier; he wasn't a notable priest, he was a notable soldier. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 07:05, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm open to alternatives, but according to WP:NCPDAB, "Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators." This indeed may be a case where we want to make an exception, though. How about Marko Mesić (soldier born 1640) and Marko Mesić (soldier born 1901)? Croatian Wikipedia qualifies the latter as vojnik, or soldier, and seems to use the priest as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Per WP:TWODABS, we may want to do something like that. I'll check the traffic stats. --BDD (talk) 16:04, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- WP:PRIMARYTOPIC is probably a no-go. Last month, the priest got 60 views to the soldier's 714. We could make the latter the primary topic, I suppose, but those are awfully low numbers. --BDD (talk) 21:23, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'd agree with your proposed solution, although it's so clumsy that keeping it this way is equally acceptable. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 07:10, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- It just occurs to me that you didn't need me to tell you what vojnik means. Sorry for my presumption. Anyway, let's see how the status quo works and see if it causes any confusion. If we need to make a change, we could designate the 20th century figure the primary topic. --BDD (talk) 15:58, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 3
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

- The first two were intentional, and I'm not sure what specific article the latter should point to, if any. I'm surprised that Cassette is a dab page. --BDD (talk) 16:06, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for help on Give It Away
I just wanted to thank you for your help on the page Give It Away. Admins don't always get enough thanks. Have a good one . Oldag07 (talk) 14:30, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not an admin, but you're welcome. I'm not one to sit out a process just because I disagreed with it. --BDD (talk) 16:07, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- I accidently messaged you over the other admin. Still you have been a really good sport about it. I have had opinions that went against consensus many times. Best of luck. Oldag07 (talk) 02:43, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi BDD, The above-referenced article, which had been proposed for moving from main space to WP work space, now is proposed for deletion. LGBT stereotypes
Hi. Hope you're enjoying corrdinating the GOCE :) I just happened to notice that you've listed LGBT stereotypes but so has User:Francophonie&Androphilie, who has made a start on it. Best, Simon. --Stfg (talk) 16:10, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know, Stfg. Before I start on an article, I always open up the drive page in edit mode and search its name to make sure no one has "claimed" it, but I guess there isn't really a policy in place dealing with such conflicts. We certainly wouldn't want someone holding an article for an extended period of time without working on it, but we do want to respect that {{working}} tag. I'm not upset, and I probably would've relinquished the article if I were asked. Now that I'm a coordinator, I'll see what I can do about codifying a good practice. --BDD (talk) 20:24, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be a great move. New drive participants often fall into traps. Improving the documentation, if you can, could be very useful. --Stfg (talk) 12:50, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Extra Virginity
On 6 January 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Extra Virginity, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Extra Virginity, a 2011 book about olive oil, was criticized by The New York Times as "an unintentional master class in how to say waxy and embalming things about fresh food"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Extra Virginity. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Please review
Hi BDD, would you mind having a quick look at Mobile_phones_on_aircraft? This is my first full article copy edit, and I think I picked a tough one! If you would just compare what the article looked like before I started to what it looks like now, and tell me if what I have done falls within the purview of copy editing, I would be grateful. Please be aware that I still have to plug in the available references (I have left cn tags all over the place to remind myself where to put them in), and I have still to go through wikifying. Regards, David_FLXD (Talk) 06:10, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
What?
Why are you deleting content from my Userspace? JCDenton2052 (talk) 13:35, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- That's a pretty broad way of putting it. I nominated one page through WP:MFD and it was deleted through that process. You were informed of that nomination, though I see you were on a wikibreak at the time. I believed that page didn't comply with userspace guidelines. I agreed with much of what you said there, but that's beside the point. You can petition for its restoration at WP:DRV. In case this was your concern, I wasn't hounding or stalking you or any of the sort. I think I found that page through a WhatLinksHere query. --BDD (talk) 15:57, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!
The Teamwork Barnstar | |
In particular for the ongoing discussion on Star Trek into Darkness regarding a pesky little I. At the end of the day, it may not have been resolved but we all did work together to try and get it sorted, even if we did feel at times we were banging our heads on our desks and calling our computer screens idiots. MisterShiney ✉ 14:47, 10 January 2013 (UTC) |
I made a thorough bungle of moving this article, and am no longer sure what I was trying to do. The article is now at the title above, with its talk page, and I have sorted out all resulting double-redirects and botched titles; but is that what was required? JohnCD (talk) 18:38, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
- It looks like you had it right the first time, and the article has ended up at its older name. I was requesting History and use of the single transferable vote as the destination. --BDD (talk) 19:17, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
- (Sigh) all done. Sorry about the confusion. JohnCD (talk) 22:42, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

AWB?
Are you using AWB? Edit like this can be done very easily there! --Tito Dutta (talk) 00:47, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the recommendation, but I'd prefer not to use a software program for editing. I was actually pretty skeptical of automated editing of any sort until not that long ago. Since then, I've largely embraced Twinkle and sometimes use HotCat, now that it's turned on by default. --BDD (talk) 00:51, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
List of Nike sponsorships
Could you please clarify your stand here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_Nike_sponsorships Regards,--Nnnnkkkk (talk) 02:43, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to just leave my comment as it stands. I don't quite feel strong enough to vote keep. I mostly just want consistency. I want anyone voting delete to know that this is part of an established set of articles, so it isn't necessarily just an advert. On the other hand, I don't think it's a particularly good set of articles. I'm not sure they have much value as lists, though a category approach might also work. --BDD (talk) 19:12, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
