DYK for Ryokuoushoku Shakai

[edit]

On 31 January 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ryokuoushoku Shakai, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the band Ryokuoushoku Shakai was named after its members misheard "vegetables" (野菜, yasai) as "society" (社会, shakai)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ryokuoushoku Shakai. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Ryokuoushoku Shakai), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Wouldn't "Last Order" be the correct format? The artist's name is stylised as "LASTorder." We've reduced all caps, but aren't we also supposed to properly space them as well? They are separate words, no?  Lunar-akauntotalk 10:58, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't seen any policy about spacing it. If I missed it please let me know. (Not to "other stuff exists!" but there are artists like BabyMonster and Badvillain in a similar situation.) Anyway, the artist also stylizes it "LASTORDER" (on Apple Music) as well as "Lastorder" (on Amazon Music) so I think Lastorder is more correct. ayakanaa ( t ) 20:41, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I tried searching, but there's no guideline about this. For stylisations, Apple Music is not reliable because they seem to have their own style manual or rules for stylisations. Originally on the Japanese version of Apple Music, his name is LASTorder (see here), but they have altered it in the US version, as you pointed out. There are other better examples too; see, Ushio stylises his name in all small letters, but they have disregarded it and then, for some reason, only kept the「」in the album name; see this and this. They have done something similar for the Attack on Titan albums; see this and this. The same goes for Amazon Music. I don't know what logic they use, but they do alter the artist and track titles. YouTube Music and Spotify are much better and almost always correct for stylisations.
I hope now we're on the same page that the only way he stylises his name is as "LASTorder". I don't use other articles when i find myself in these situations, but instead think about what convention we would use if the title in question had a separate article. For some reason, "Lastorder" just doesn't feel appropriate. Like, say, if there was an artist named "MIKUissinging", we would write it as "Miku Is Singing" rather than "Mikuissinging", right? Now what do we do? Lunar-akauntotalk 07:36, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If he were to have a page here on enwiki, it would be called LASTorder or Lastorder. It should be the name used in the majority of independent reliable sources, but there's not enough independent reliable sources for him (that's also why he's not eligible to have a page), so we have no way of knowing. However, there's no policy saying you should space it so you shouldn't alter it further.
Yes, we are on the same page about how he stylizes his name as LASTorder. However, for your example, no, it would not be Miku Is Singing unless a majority of independent reliable sources refer to them that way. It would be Mikuissinging, going by capitalization policy, or MIKUissinging, depending on those sources. As an example, Baek Yerin's album tellusboutyourself. It should be Tellusboutyourself here, fixing only the capitalization, not the spacing, since sources refer to it as "tellusboutyourself".
Anyway I object to it being stylized Last Order. We should abide by existing guidelines. ayakanaa ( t ) 20:46, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I have read unless a majority of independent, reliable sources refer to them that way before. But it's just that I never encountered a situation where a stylisation is more heavily used consistently by sources. When i talked about creating the artist page, i was saying it hypothetically. Anyhow, your album example makes it clear. So, Lastorder, it'll be then. Lunar-akauntotalk 03:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I recently reduced all caps in the title for Rookiez Is Punk'd. Do you think all caps present were justified? From what i can find, all sources refer to them in all caps, even in running text.
Per MOS:JP#Capitalization of words in Roman script I believe you're correct in reducing. ayakanaa ( t ) 01:14, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Lunar-akauntotalk 05:29, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

One more thing. We earlier had this discussion about placing Japanese and rōmaji titles into notes, right? I found an alternative; when an English title is available, we can use {{lang|ja|}}, {{transliteration|ja|}} in the note instead. This properly separates them and allows adding a lit. translation as well, without any extra brackets. So, if you want to, you can use this to move those titles now.
