A tag has been placed on User:AutoJohnny, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Peridon (talk) 11:17, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I've read that I have committed a serious breach of Wikipedia's policies. I understand the reason why my content was blocked and will not do it again. I will do my best to make more productive contributions and make sure to keep up with the guidelines for writing articles to avoid mistakes, problems, and breach of any Wikipedia policy.AutoJohnny (talk) 01:12, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

  • I am willing to consider giving you another chance, but administrators are generally reluctant to unblock accounts on the basis of such general comments as "I will do my best to make more productive contributions" and so on, because experience shows that quite often blocked editors who post unblock requests like that actually don't really understand what the problems with their editing were, and are therefore likely to repeat the same mistakes. For that reason, I suggest you say (1) exactly what you understand to have been the problems with your editing in the past, and (2) how your future editing is likely to differ from what you did before being blocked. If you can do that, it may significantly increase the likelihood that an administrator will unblock your account. • Good day. Thank you for giving time to reply on my request. I would like give statements on those points. (1) It was mentioned that I have been blocked because of "Spam/Advertising only". The last time I edited the additional content I made for Hybrid Truck Bed-Liner, I attached the references from external links and other existing Wikipedia pages. I may have posted something that resulted to the block. (2) Not sure if I have any problem with the content I've written since, as to what I have understood on Spam, the problem is on the reference I might have cited on the page. Like what mentioned on Spam[1], "Some people spam Wikipedia without meaning to. That is, they do things which Wikipedians consider to be spamming, without realizing that their actions are not in line with building an encyclopedia."

It would be nice if you can give some tips or recommendations about this problem. This is my first time to edit on Wikipedia. I have no intent of breaking any policies.

What I meant about "I will do my best to make more productive contributions" is, if the block will be lifted to the account, I have to be more careful on editing any content I will be posting in the future. AutoJohnny (talk) 09:01, 31 August 2016 (UTC)}}[reply]

  • There are quite a few reasons. For example, your userpage advertises you as an expert in various areas and was so over the top promotional that I was almost certain that I'd discover a link to a blog or e-commerce site in the deleted content or see your name attached to some of the product links you inserted into Wikipedia. The other content was little better. Wikipedia is not a how to site or a place to hand out advice per se, as it's meant to be an encyclopedia and not a how to guide and you might want to look into editing at WikiHow, where stuff like that is encouraged.
I think that rather than us pointing out specific things about the pages or things that might be wrong, it would be better if you looked at your edits and pointed out examples of what could have been seen as promotional beyond the spam links. Your userpage is gone, but there are other edits you can use to show that you understand why the edits were promotional in tone. 08:54, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

  • Thanks for citing the page on "What Wikipedia is not" to give me further information on the styles and format. I have worked with a few auto-related sites. At first, I thought it's possible to put any links on the user page but manage to delete it when I read about referencing. I would like to know why the whole content I put on Hybrid Truck Bed Liner were subjected to speedy deletion. If the problem was within the reference links, can't we just address the error and leave out the other parts that are related to the topic? In Spam, it was mentioned that if articles have spam, you can tag them with

As a newcomer, I haven't receive any warning but only speedy deletion and block of my account. (talk) 10:34, 1 September 2016 (UTC)}}

  • Hello again. On the last message I posted dated 2 September, no one has responded yet. As to what TokyoGirl79 mentioned on her reply, "I think that rather than us pointing out specific things about the pages or things that might be wrong, it would be better if you looked at your edits and pointed out examples of what could have been seen as promotional beyond the spam links." So I reviewed my draft for the Hybrid Truck Bed-Liner to point out few errors on my posting. I may have missed out some parts since I cannot retrieve the whole content I have posted because it was nominated for speedy deletion.
You can find various brands in the market like BedRug which offers truck bed liners. Better check the texture, materials, and style of the liners before you purchase one for your truck.
-Since I called out BedRug as a manufacturer of truck bed liners, it seems like its written as promotional. The other problem is I added a link to the bedrug site in references so it looked like it's not written in neutral but instead trying to sell bed truck liners.
It is rougher in texture compared to BedRug. Kids are not recommended to sleep on this liner for its hard abrasive surface that can scrape their knees.
-Looks promotional because 4wheelonline was cited as source
BedRug Bed Mat, on the other hand, is manufactured using a thick, carpet-like foam. The texture is smoother and more flexible unlike the all-plastic materials from the BedTred.
-This promotes BedRug, the brand and specific products. I would have to write this part in a way where we are not calling out specific manufacture or product names.
BedRug and Bedtred may have differences in materials, color and textures, but both have same purpose to provide protection to the truck bed. The products are constructed using superior materials and excellent craftsmanship to ensure its durability and quality.
-Same as above, this part promotes the brand. AutoJohnny (talk) 09:40, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Email

[edit]

@AutoJohnny: I believe you have sent me an email with respect to your block. Unfortunately the email did not arrive correctly, and I can only guess the content of your message. Please note I cannot unblock you as I am not an administrator. I see that you have made an unblock request so no further action is required at this point. You can also choose to contact Peridon, the administrator who blocked you to obtain further advice.--Cahk (talk) 01:38, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have received an email, and I'm quite happy to let another admin decide. Peridon (talk) 10:49, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Cahk: I do not agree that no further action is required. It is required that AutoJohnny answers JamesBWatson's question above. I see that you made that comment before JamesBWatson posted, but I just don't want the user to think that no action is needed. Vanjagenije (talk) 18:57, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked at the unblock request. I am prepared to unblock you on one condition - you agree to make no edits anywhere on Wikipedia mentioning BedRug Bed Mat whatsoever, and also agree that if you do you can be immediately reblocked. Since Peridon has already said he is happy to defer the unblock review to another admin, I just need your agreement on the above and we'll be good to go. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:41, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ritchie333: Thank you for giving time in reviewing my unblock request. I agree to the condition you mentioned and will not cite BedRug Mat especially since the content was written like an advertisement or has a promotional tone. AutoJohnny (talk) 10:40, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
