Last Night copy-edit
[edit]- Aoba, I'm doing a copy-edit on Last Night (2010 film). Can you check if I messed anything up because I might reword the article a lot. Clikity (talk) 01:53, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- P.S - good job on the WikiCup reward! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clikity (talk • contribs) 01:53, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you! Aoba47 (talk) 01:59, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- If you have doubts about messing something up during your copy-edit, maybe it is best to leave this up to a more experienced copy-editor? I had requested a copy-edit to help bring this up to an FA level. You could still do the copy-edit of course if you would like, as it is always helpful to get as many different perspectives as possible. Aoba47 (talk) 02:02, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- I can handle the copy-edit, I just don't know much about the movie and I reworded the article a lot, so some of the intended meaning could've been lost. Clikity (talk) 00:29, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- If you are confused by any portion of it, then feel free to ask. I am looking forward to your copy-edit. Aoba47 (talk) 01:58, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
WikiProjects
[edit]Hi there! I just wanted to inform you that we have the somewhat older WikiProject Alexandra Stan (which was not quite a success) and the new WikiProject Inna out there. These are great opportunities to discuss on things related to the two singers, how to improve articles related to them and so on. I would really appreciate you joining one of these two projects, but of course you don't have to. I think you're a great editor in this direction, and your help would definitely be needed. To join one of the aforementioned projects, just list yourself in the "Participants" column and put both the page and its talk page on you watchlist to stay updated on the matter. Have a wonderful day!! Cartoon network freak (talk) 21:09, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- I can definitely join, though I am not sure if I can be much help. I am really enjoying her new song and I am looking forward to her album. I like that she is doing something different. It helps that I was already planning on returning to my Spanish studies lol. Aoba47 (talk) 02:54, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
Your apparent self-reversion
[edit]Hi, you inserted a "Thank you" thread, then a day later appeared to remove it. Was this an error? I was about to reply. Tony (talk) 00:13, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
- I removed my original message because I wasn't sure if I was bothering you. Apologies for that. I do greatly appreciate your advice, as I have went back to printing out articles/papers for revision. I agree that is the best tactic, as there is just something about better doing it with a pen and paper as opposed to looking at a screen. Hope you are having a great week so far! Aoba47 (talk) 00:19, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
- Your'e welcome Aoba. Tony (talk) 00:52, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
I saw your wonderful work on so many music articles and was wondering if you'd be so kind as to review the article for Elton John when I nominate it for GA in the near future.MagicatthemovieS (talk) 04:09, 10 November 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS
- Thank you for the message, but I unfortunately do not have the time to review the article properly, as it is rather long and would require a more thorough approach. Good luck with it. Aoba47 (talk) 05:31, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Inspired FAC Review
[edit]Hi Aoba47:
All I can say after reading the comments is "wow" just "wow"! Even Wikipedia's definition of an encyclopedia, "encyclopedia articles focus on factual information concerning the subject named in the article's title", says nothing about telling a "compelling" story.
Take care of yourself. Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:41, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for the comment, and it is all good. I believe that it led to the overall improvement of the article either way, as it caused me to revise some of the parts. I still disagree with the "compelling story" critique, but I will respect the reviewer's opinion. Aoba47 (talk) 17:46, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- WP:FACR uses the term "engaging": "its prose is engaging and of a professional standard". That's not quite what's meant by a "compelling story" but it's in the same ballpark. The aim is to try to keep the reader interested. SarahSV (talk) 18:23, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- Understandable. Thank you for the clarification. I am uncertain if prose quality alone can keep a reader engaged with an article if the subject matter itself is not something they are already interested in. However, it is always a good thing to try to polish an article's prose to be the best it could possibly be. Aoba47 (talk) 18:40, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- I agree that readers not interested in the topic may not want to engage no matter how good the prose, but readers who might otherwise be interested can be deterred by pedestrian prose. The aim with every FA is to introduce some flow to help the reader make their way through the text. I think of this as making sure the writing doesn't get in the way of the writing. It should carry them through the narrative smoothly. Nothing too dull or repetitive, no grammatical errors that mean they have to read a sentence twice, and so on. The reader shouldn't notice the writing unless you want them to. SarahSV (talk) 18:52, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification! Aoba47 (talk) 20:23, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry to see that you're feeling discouraged. I am always impressed at your productivity and manner, and I hope you know that your hard work is appreciated. Writing articles productively is taxing on the spirit! Take some time off - you've more than earned it. :) ceranthor 19:28, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Inna news
[edit]Hi there! I'm writing to you as I hope you're doing better now ! My queen Inna will release her fifth studio album Yo in 2019 with Jay Z's Roc Nation (!!!) and she's currently promoting it with appearances in Mexico and Latin America. She took entire creative control of the record, which will be fully in Spanish, and approached previously unexplored genres such as Latin and gypsy-influenced music, as well as new singing styles.
She's recently premiered "Ra" [1] which discusses a toxic relatonship she desires to leave, as well as (yesterday) "Iguana" [2] where she talks about experiencing a heartbreak when learning that her boyfriend has no more interest in her; yet she affirms that she will "dance even without him" in the chorus. I personally think this is the best Inna's been in her whole career. While I adored her older club-ready but often shallow works, I really admire this new artsy and conceptual Inna. The music she's releasing now is very unique (you won't see anything like this in the charts now) and Carla's Dreams, a big band in Romania, have predicted that Inna will win a (Latin) Grammy Award somewhere soon (she's attended the most recent edition of the Latin Grammy Awards the past month). "Iguana" seems to be growing successful, gaining 1M views in 24h of release and entering iTunes charts in some countries. What do you think of the songs? Best; Cartoon network freak (talk) 22:33, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
- I love Inna's new direction. "Ra" and "Iguana" are some of my favorite Inna songs too, and I am looking forward to hearing the entire album in the future. I enjoyed her previous more dance-oriented music too, but I prefer this style personally. I have been thinking about studying Spanish again, and this news is actually pushing me even more to go back to it. I am glad to see that Inna is being successful again, as I was worried that she had past her peak/prime. It would be awesome to see her win a Grammy Award, and it is great to see her work with Roc Nation. Hopefully, it will lead to bigger and better things for her. It would be interesting to see a Romanian artist re-invent themselves as a Latin superstar. Thank you for your message. I hope you are doing well too! I am planning to return to Wikipedia sometime next year, and possibly throw my hat into the Wikicup ring again. Aoba47 (talk) 22:43, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
- Just take it easy... and listen to some LatINNA haha ! Best of regards and see you again soon :)) Cartoon network freak (talk) 21:10, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Soap
[edit]Hey Aoba, I hope you are doing well. :D Haven't talked in to you in a while, so I though I'd discuss something we both—possibly—like; soap. Specificially, soap operas. I mean, if I'm not mistaken, I'd say you liked Passions? Given all the work you put into the Russell family. I have thought about watching it, and having fantasy elements and LGBT representation in it is definitely a plus. And having Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it, even if only for one year. But weirdly enough, I'm leaning more towards All My Children right now. I was able to find almost every episode from 1990 and onwards; the revival as well. Do you have any suggestions of other soaps I could watch? PanagiotisZois (talk) 23:34, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
- @PanagiotisZois: Thank you for your message. I am doing alright. I hope you are doing well! I do really enjoy soap operas, and I think that are far more interesting than people typically give them credit. I am glad that you like All My Children. I haven't seen it yet, but I will definitely check it out. I admit that I have a somewhat odd taste in soap operas, as I like the weirder ones. I love Dark Shadows, which is a more Gothic show. I remember seeing bits and pieces of Sunset Beach and it was fun and crazy. If you are into the more out-there fantasy elements like Passions, then you should definitely check out James E. Reilly's work on Days of Our Lives; some of the storylines that he wrote/lead included demonic possession. I cannot think of that many that had LGBT representation, though I am sure there are a few out if you look. Hope that helps. On a somewhat related note, I am currently debating about whether or not to study Spanish or Japanese again, and I may watch some soap operas in either language to help with my student. If Spanish, I would like to start with El Pecado de Oyuki (because I like a weird mixture of cultures), and if Japanese, then Oshin as I read a really cool academic article about it. Either way, I hope your week is going well so far! Aoba47 (talk) 01:03, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
