rewrite Garland page

It would be nice to see a decent rewrite of the page.

I've tried organizing it and rewrote some of the GP&L and utilities articles and add some info in education section.

I think the utilities articles still need work and if anything the history section needs to be sourced. For the most part I think it's pretty fair and accurate.

Let me know what you come up with. Maybe you could also offer the third opinion telecom has been seeking.

You actually brought a smile to my face when I read your explanation for this edit [1] ("It's not a site to get information and it's a "Fan Club" site/forum site, thus violates Wikipedia:External links"), because basically I agree. I'm interested in your opinion. I don't know whether you have the time or interest in discussing this?

After reading the discussion in WP:EL many times, and contributing a few things, I reached the conclusion that although I disagree with the idea that every article should be given "one free link" to an "Official Site", changing Wiki policy on this would be difficult. Even more difficult and time-consuming would be discussing every Official Site on its own merit.

I suggest in this case, that if you and I were to attempt defending to an arbitration committee removing www.princesaeiza.com that we would lose, on the basis of this exception from WP:EL "Except for a link to an official page of the article's subject". I say this because it appears that it is not only a fan site, but an expensive professional site that is run by González's management to represent her. I.e., it's "official", within the Wiki meaning.

Do I personally agree that a pop singer's publicity department should be allowed to get a plug in Wikipedia, simply because they spent a lot of money on a site, and call it "official"? No, I do not. That is where I'd be especially interested in your opinion.

In this specific case, we may want to consider this biography on www.princesaeiza.com [2], which has encyclopedic information the Wiki article lacks. Could we link to there, instead? Or, should we write a note on the discussion page, suggesting that some helpful editor select and translate parts of that page into the Wiki article? With Regards, Piano non troppo (talk) 19:57, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

That "biografia" page is not a secondary source, but a tertiary source, which might not be able to be used. Wikipedia itself is a tertiary source, which is required to have secondary sources to be used in it's articles.
Also if it was official, show me the page where it's affiliated with Televisa or related, if it is affiliated I can possibly see a chance for it to be official. Also not all articles have existing official sites, I think there used to be one for that article but the link is now dead (used on Spanish Wikipedia) --Antonio López (desu) 21:54, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Interesting. Thanks for your response. The fact is, I can barely navigate on that site at all, since my Spanish is poor. So I have no idea whether it's solidly associated with Televisa. But that's another reason not to include the external link -- it can't be checked by typical Wikipedia readers and editors.
I concur that there is no Wiki guideline or rule requiring any external link in an article. But this also seems to be a hard argument to win, when fans and marketing departments want the link there. Best Regards, Piano non troppo(talk) 22:03, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks very much, Antonio, for your advice on links within refs. Since you didn't seem entirely certain, I tried pursuing the topic a little further on my own. The first place I went was WP:LINK. After hurting my eyes reading through the details, and not finding the information I was seeking, I could not help noticing that the second reference under WP:LINK#Notes didhave a linked author. I guess the practice must actually be acceptable. Anyway, your help is appreciated. Tim Ross (talk)17:50, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your swift and positive assessment of [[Newington Green Unitarian Church], which I've just put into mainspace. Do you have any ideas on how I could improve this from B to A? BrainyBabe (talk) 13:01, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:North Garland High School.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} tothe top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk pageexplaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Spotlight relaunch

Some users have decided to try and relaunch the spotlight project, and I am informing all users that were on the previous list of participants.

We thought that, rather than discuss it, it would be more effective to simply start, and try to make it work again. Therefore, we are currently working on an article.

Anyone is welcome to get involved, so please come to the #wikipedia-spotlight channel on the freenode IRC network (see the IRC tutorial for help with IRC). You can get instant access using freenode webchat.

I've just declined the speedy deletion tag that I believe you placed on the above-captioned article; two Emmy awards are sufficient evidence of notability for me. Hello Antonio Lopez, I am new to Wikipedia (i.e., contributing, etc.) I believe you had a problem with a recent contribution I had made to the "incest" page, under Hinduism. It is quite astonishing that my additions have been negated, considering that my additions pertained to the entire South Indian Hindus. The tradition of cross-cousins marriage, and marriage of women to their maternal uncles is a much respected and preferred alliance to this very day in that half of the Hindu society. This is indeed legal under "Hindu Marriage Act" in those states. Also, numerous Hindu immigrant couples who are living highly accomplished lives in the West are either cross cousins or neice and maternal uncles by blood relationship. So why was this fact addressing my half of the Hindu society considered NOT a legitimate contribution to that section? I didn't quite get it. Are there value judgements being made by some Northern Indian Hindus who do not wish to include the Southern Hindu culture as being "Hindu"?...while in reality, it is the southern Hindu brahmins (who too practise what I wrote) are the very pillars of the Vedic Hindu culture, and religion in these modern times! And the offsprings of such couples are turning out quite fine; in fact the majority of such offsprings are some of the most brilliant human beings on earth!
