A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
For all the hard work over the last year and a half Tony (talk) 22:57, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive invitation

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

July 2011

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with User:Anthony Winward. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion and appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's [[Talk:User:Anthony Winward|talk page]]. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. ukexpat (talk) 19:14, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Please read WP:UP - your user page is completely against the user page guidelines and amounts to nothing more than a huge advertisement for you and your career. – ukexpat (talk) 19:17, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

loads of other people put random stuff about themself on their pages Tony (talk) 19:22, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Your userpage is well beyond acceptable ranges of personality on user pages and has gone past the point of being a WP:FAKEARTICLE. Please remove the material or it will be deleted.--v/r - TP 19:26, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

daft that like Tony (talk) 19:29, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Alright, that'll work like it is. I've removed the {{db-spam}}.--v/r - TP 19:35, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
You've been warned twice now about your user page. You cannot make it look like an article. That is considered a WP:FAKEARTICLE. If you do not fix it, I will delete it. If you continue to create such fake articles, I will report you to the conflict of interest noticeboard and you may be blocked from editing.--v/r - TP 22:16, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Your user page

Looking at it, I'd still say that it is overly detailed about your career. Why do other editors need/want to know every little thing you've been in - how does that help them to know more about you as a person or an editor? The first paragraph is enough information - the list of performances would (to me) seem to be beyond what is acceptable. I am considering taking the page to MfD with the recommendation that the Performances & Short Films section be deleted (rather than the whole page), as this seems to me to be the only problem with the page. Would you consider removing this section of your own volition? PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 23:23, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

I am of the same opinion and would be pro deletion of this section at Mfd. – ukexpat (talk) 01:07, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
The lead needs to be rewritten, in my opinion, so it doesn't appear to be a fake article.--v/r - TP 13:21, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Please stop adding wikilinks for common English words (like actor) and well-known places (like U.S.). Read WP:OVERLINK. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:48, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Hey there, I appreciate your edits, but please try not to overlink such things as England and actor and such, for further information, please read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (linking)#What generally should not be linked. Thanks. That Ole Cheesy Dude (Talk to the hand!) 13:50, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Adding postnominals to short names in infoboxes

If I were you I wouldn't do too many of these without checking consensus on it. I am about to find out whether there is anything against it somewhere but fear there is and your work will just be reverted. Britmax (talk) 16:16, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

I don't think these are needed - after all, the 'short' name in the infobox is for the 'common' name, which rarely (if ever) uses such honourifics. It's fine for the prose, but not for the infobox. Sorry. GiantSnowman 18:35, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
I would agree with that, the honorific title is fine, but not in the "common name" part of the info box. Suggest you revert your own edits and look for a consensus to re-add... The Rambling Man (talk) 18:47, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Completely agreed. I would also insist that you carry out your own reverts, since you were the one who made the edits in the first place. I don't see why other people should have to sort out something done by someone else. – PeeJay 18:55, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
It is also worth noting that several of your recent edits have been undone. This kind of pan-Wiki edit fest is something that you should seek consensus for in advance of rolling it out. Of course, if you have such consensus, all you need to do is point us nay-sayers in that direction. Otherwise, please undo your own edits and form a centralised discussion where this can be agreed upon globally. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:17, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Shortening dates

There is no reason to shorten dates from 1944 to 44. FWiW, there must be better things to do in the film articles. Bzuk (talk) 21:45, 4 August 2011 (UTC).

Not only is there no reason, but I believe that in the case of birth/death date this is incorrect according to the Wikipedia Manual of Style. If a reference cannot be supplied, I'll bring it to Project Biography. Hohenloh + 16:05, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

MfD nomination of User:Anthony Winward

User:Anthony Winward, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Anthony Winward and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Anthony Winward during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. v/r - TP 20:27, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

I've just closed the mfd as keep, because, after your recent edits, it no longer violated WP:FAKEARTICLE. Please, do not restore the material you just deleted however. Happy editing. Salvio Let's talk about it! 00:35, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Infoboxes, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Bzuk (talk) 12:53, 11 August 2011 (UTC).

August 2011

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia, as you did in Marius Goring, makes it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. And other articles. Desist from doing this. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 13:09, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Nomination of Mona Greenberg for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Mona Greenberg is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mona Greenberg until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Atomician (talk) 16:19, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Guillermo Zarur, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please see the page to see the reasons. If the page has since been deleted, you can ask me the reasons by leaving a message on my user talk page.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 18:07, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Year range shortening

Please participate at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_(dates_and_numbers)#Request_for_Comment:_date_ranges before continuing these changes as there might not be a consensus for your changes. Jarkeld (talk) 10:25, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

I reverted this, something you've been told not to do countless times. Please stop it. Read WP:OVERLINK and heed it. Additionally I commented at your RF rollback, thanks, Atomician (talk) 12:00, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Three more here by the way... Frank Oz, Jeremy Bulloch, Dabney Coleman. I'm now going to clean up your edits, I hope you don't mind, but you have been warned about it before and you're obviously not listening to people. Atomician (talk) 12:04, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Marcos Barreto requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the notability of the subject, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You need to learn to slow down, Wikipedia is not about your number of edits, or anything to do with yourself! It's about the contributions, what you're adding to the pedia, not what it's giving you. Stop overlinking, stop applying for rights you're not ready for and stop creating one-line articles that can't possibly be accepted quality-wise. Please? Atomician (talk) 12:47, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Adminship

Hi there; I noticed your comment on your userpage about qualifying for admin responsibility. The easy answer is to say look at WP:RfA, which is valid, and i could say look at the histories and editing skills of the editors surrently applying. In brief though, to actually answer your question;

  • you need to have produced enogh edits to show that you know how to do it - normally 3,000 or more. OK
  • you need to have been here and editing for a reasonable time, perhaps 3-6 months. OK
  • you need to have a good range of edits in admin-related topics, which are WP:AfD, WP:CSD, WP:UAA, WP:RfA, WP:ANI etc. I do not see those as yet.
  • you need to have at least a respectable number of edits in the Wikipedia and Wiki-talk areas. Not there yet.
  • you need to have no recent evidence of anti-social wiki-behaviour, and ideally do not have any recent blocks.
  • when you have all these, then you either self-nominate, which is acceptable, or wait for someone else to nominate you. Please do not canvass, it is a serious downcheck.

You do have a vast number of created articles which have been deleted as being non-notable. It would be better if you were to create articles more in line with the policy in WP:NN; many of your articles do, I appreciate, qualify, but an apparent lack of understanding of notability would count against you. Hope this is helpful. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:52, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

The article List of oldest notable actors has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Nothing but WP:LISTCRUFT

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
