Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Noted. It is factually correct and can be cross referenced to supporting articles Andy chacha (talk) 15:04, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your account does not have permission to make edits like this.
To participate in this topic area, accounts must be at least thirty days old and have at least 500 edits. The only exception is to make edit requests. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 11:55, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
apparently you are as wrong about that as I am am currently doing so. I can provide a litany of supporting articles that show this to be accurately and rightfully described as a massacre. Thanks for the advise, I will upload the dozens of supporting articles now. I appreciate you pointing that out to me Andy chacha (talk) 13:38, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This requirement isn't always enforced at a technical level, especially on talk pages since edit requests are allowed there. You're still expected to abide by this policy, and may be blocked if you don't do so. Please limit your contributions in this topic area to edit requests until you become extended-confirmed. — xDanielx T/C\R 17:16, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
my hope is quite simply to be able to enjoy and more importantly trust that Wikipedia is an accurate and unbiased source of information. My account is well over 30 days old but it is true that my input is limited and I am not anywhere near 500 edits. I only offer input if I know unequivocally that what I am stating is factual. I don't mean to cross boundaries and I am not necessarily intimately familiar with all the rules in regard to inputs and edits. I certainly did not mean to violate any rules and if I did so, it was without intent. Thank you for bring that to my attention Andy chacha (talk) 00:25, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your understanding. There's generally some leeway for newer users who aren't familiar with all the rules yet, as long as it's clear that you're making some effort to follow them and adjusting when any issues are raised. If you wanted to be extra safe, you could focus your early contributions in less-controversial areas. — xDanielx T/C\R 19:04, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate that advise. Near east history and civilizations has been a personal study of mine for most of my life and I feel I am exceptionally informed on the subject matter at hand. I try to reserve any editing unless 1) I am completely certain of my knowledge and can provide resources to back it up and 2) the article on question has missing or misleading data. Only under those circumstances do I offer my input. I appreciate this site and want to see it remain as accurate as possible for any and everyone's benefit Andy chacha (talk) 12:20, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
certainly. I just want to be able to trust what I read on here and labeling that information as anything but a massacre is disingenuous at best but more akin to malignant misleading Andy chacha (talk) 00:27, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andy chacha! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.

Andy, you need to be extended confirmed before you can participate in consensus forming discussions in the WP:PIA topic area. Not following this rule repeatedly usually results in a block so it is better to edit in other topic areas until you are extended confirmed. Sean.hoyland (talk) 12:34, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. There is a lot to flesh out here. I am teying not to step on toes and appreciate the tutorial link Andy chacha (talk) 12:40, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whay are the requirements for that. I think i may have violated your rules again. Not trying to but ill take a look at the tutorial to flesh it out Andy chacha (talk) 12:42, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The requirements are fairly straightforward: you need to be extendedconfirmed. I also suggest you read WP:ARBECR. M.Bitton (talk) 13:18, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank for the direction. Andy chacha (talk) 18:12, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you continue to violate WP:ECR as you did here you will be blocked from editing. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:23, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
okay. It will be what it will be. If I end up getting blocked so be it. I will not remain silent against blatant propaganda. If you need to silence my voice to do so, feel free to do so but I will not be silent against blatant biases. Do what you have to do and I will deal with the consequences Andy chacha (talk) 17:31, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To enforce an arbitration decision, and for WP:ECR violations, you have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for a period of 1 week. You are welcome to edit once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block or other sanctions.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Please copy my appeal to the [[WP:AE|arbitration enforcement noticeboard]] or [[WP:AN|administrators' noticeboard]]. Your reason here OR place the reason below this template. ~~~~}}. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard, I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page.

ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:28, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See you in a week Andy chacha (talk) 17:32, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes"). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:34, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ya. Funny. I think i an one of the few here who is actually trying to do that. Thank you for shoeing me what you are about. Goodbye Andy chacha (talk) 18:22, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
