Exciting news

[edit]

Hello Andrzejbanas. Just wanted to drop you a note saying that it looks like the Criterion Collection has some very interesting releases coming up. None more so than the "America Lost and Found: The BBS Story" set. Every film in the set is fascinating in its own way and it will be nice to have them all at one time. Of course, I don't know your taste in films so these might not interest you. One more thing that I wanted to clue you in on, in case you weren't aware of it, is the fact that once or twice a year all CC and Eclipse series DVD's go on sale at Barnes & Noble for 50% off. If you have their member card you save a further 10%. That is an incredible savings and I try to have the patience to wait for it. Last time they had the sale I added the Sacha Guitry set to my library and - though I had never heard of him before - I have found his films to be extraordinary. I hope that you are well and, as ever, thank you for all of the work that you do here at wikipedia. MarnetteD | Talk 15:29, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. Rats to the fact that they don't have the same sale in Canada. If you are willing to take a risk you can get a good price on used dvd's on Amazon sometimes. When I watched The Story of a Cheat I practically had to pick my jaw up off of the floor. It breaks all of the rules of film storytelling and does so five years before Orson Welles broke the same rules with Citizen Kane. Well worth a look if you ever get the chance. Cheers. [edit]

I went the follwoing horrormovies.org for 2009 and they have like 917 movies listed there. so is it a reliable source or are they also including everything like thrillers in there too? Gman124 talk 14:30, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wait the title of the tab says Horror and Sci-Fi Movies Database. Gman124 talk 14:32, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

War adventure

[edit]

I left a new comment on the category discussion, withdrawing my nomination. Thanks for the research you did on the subject. As I asked over on the discussion page, do you think there is enough information to justify an article? That would help a great deal with keeping the definition of the subgenre clear and, perhaps, prevent films from being miscategorized. As we both know, this is a rampant problem. To wit, Chigurgh's comment above should be ignored, as it clearly indicates he is not here to be helpful. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 21:54, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, if the war adventure cat doesn't get deleted, can I add the cat to Saving Private Ryan? That movie fits war adventure quite well. Chigurgh (talk) 21:55, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Genres/Missing you

[edit]

The citation says that the song has a trancy backdrop. That is clear evidence that the song has trance elements. Any untrained musical ear can hear that too... Before you ask about citations I'm well aware that sources are needed to verify genres. Lots of songs make use of similar phrases to describe the genre. At the end of the day very few citations say "song xyz is a trance song blah blah..." I don't understand you're objections. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 20:53, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; editing legitimate comments, as you did at User talk:Chigurgh‎, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. As much as I'd like to see the warning stay on his page - it is his page, and he is entitled to edit it as he sees fit - up to and including deletion. BUT, it has now been removed because of inccorect content, your source says, "“We R Who We R” was allegedly inspired by a drag show, though Ke$ha later claimed it was a response to the bullying of gay teens". Allegedly means it was rumored, rumors are not allowed, especially when the source you cited even says it was wrong, that it was actually inspired by Gay Teens. Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

[edit]

Hi! I noticed your activity as a Good Article reviewer, and wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:03, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Convince me about Pé de Chinelo.

[edit]

Please lay out your case, and I'll block if you are convincing. I can see the that AscherSE4N repeated an edit, but the rest of the behaviour doesn't overlap in a quick look. AscherSE4N has mainly edited by trying to categorize Disney stars as "female Christians". Anything in Pé de Chinelo's history that would correspond?—Kww(talk) 00:37, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Andrzejbanas. I am guessing that even 10,000 apologies would not be enough. As you may have already seen - with this edit [1] you were proven right in your surmise that Pé was back. I was so used to his ugly, attack edit summaries that when they weren't there I applied too much AGF. I hope that you can forgive me one day. I hope that you have a great week in spite of this. MarnetteD | Talk 17:10, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a need for apologies ... Andrzejbanas came to a conclusion before anybody else, but no one said he was particularly wrong to do so. When this guy pops up again, drop me a note, and I'll deal with it aggressively. I've erased all contributions from AscherSE4N, and I will continue to do so for further socks.—Kww(talk) 17:40, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's in the heading

[edit]

In the Quentin Tarantino article it says: "...he began his career as an independent filmmaker with films employing nonlinear storylines..." That said, do you debate him being an experimental film director if it says that in the heading? Lighthead þ 22:43, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So you don't think independent film is in the same general field as experimental. Interesting... Lighthead þ 23:20, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you really want to know, the term independent is largely an Americanism for experimental as relates to film. Lighthead þ 23:20, 1 July 2011 (UTC) 23:51, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Criterion Collection question

[edit]

Hello again A. Regarding the list of CC DVD releases I notice that the upcoming release [2] of Kubrick's film The Killing also includes the film he made just before it entitled Killer's Kiss. IMO this is somewhat significant. Now I know that many of their releases, like Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, include short films made by the directors in their formative years. While I would not advocate for their mention in the list I am wondering whether KK might not be a special case. It did receive a theatrical release and is considered notable in SK's career - although to be honest Fear and Desire is the only film of his not considered notable :-) If we aren't going to give a full line to it in the list what do you think about including a footnote mentioning it? If you are happy with not mentioning it then that is fine with me. We are having the 50% off CC DVDs at Barnes and Noble again until Aug 1. I wish they would draw my six numbers at the lottery so I could fly you over the border and finance you adding to your collection. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 19:00, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Different pages is definitely a good idea. I would even like to see the main list split every 100 titles or so because I forget what they different color codes and symbols are for and have to scroll all the way back up to refresh my memory. I know that would mess up the sorting - though I wonder if we could just recommend to any reader that wants to do various sortins to go to the CCs website as it is sortable in the same way that our table is. If you want to start a thread at the talk page I would be happy to contribute. I would recommend putting a link to it at the film project talk page. Thanks for your reply and have a nice weekend. Next time you remove song genres without a detailed explanation, I will have your account indefinitely banned forever. I can see from earlier edits on your talk page that you have already been warned about this, so please stop doing this. Non-free rationale for File:Megamania2600.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Megamania2600.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hello. Although I have a lot of appreciation for the edits you've made to the horror films lists in the past, I am perplexed by your recent decision to revert edits that are based on a source you clearly haven't read. You might want to look at WP:Good faith, as you seem to view many other less experienced editors as "vandals" who just want to ruin your lists. Congratulations on receiving the Dr. Heiter Award!

[edit]
For your contributions to The Human Centipede (First Sequence) I present you with the Dr. Heiter Award. "Feed!"

Hi there, thank you for your contributions to The Human Centipede (First Sequence). When the article was first started in October 2009 is was but a tiny stub that was immediately tagged for deletion, but thanks to the efforts of wikipedia editors that tiny acorn has grown into a great oak tree of an article. The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is now a Featured Article and on the 17th June 2010 the article received its 1,000,000th page view! The article routinely receives over five thousand views a day and is in the top 1,000 most viewed Wikipedia articles!

On Halloween 2011, the article was the Main Page Featured Article!

The Dr. Heiter Award was created to reward editors who have made positive contributions to the article. It can be presented by any wikipedia user to anyone who has helped the article grow. This might be by adding new content, fixing any errors or reverting vandalism.

Thanks! Feed! Coolug (talk) 17:50, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I've changed back the image to the DVD cover, more so because the source provided by the film poster was uploaded by someone else on the site it was uploaded to, so the true source of the poster is unknown. It was also too large. As for the genre, I've removed it for the time being, but do feel it qualifies as a drama film as well (see it's classification at a DVD site as well as Rotten Tomatoes. I realise that it's a film so may be governed by different guidelines that TV shows are, so would appreciate your feedback here. Wikipedia policy allows us to link to legal streamed copies of albums. It would be useful to draw up a guideline on how and when to link to such albums; however, there is concern that it may not be appropriate as the music would not be available in all parts of the world. Is the benefit of having access to the music for most users outweighed by the fact that some users will follow a link to find the music is not playable in their region? Your view would be helpful at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums. SilkTork ✔Tea time 01:51, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tell me how is hurt locker and leon action films and SPR not one AND I'll stop vandalizng

I doubt you'll ever stop vandalizing. Leon's not predominantly an action film, but it's scenes of stylized violence (hanging upside down, guns blaring, intro scene shoot out, scene with Luc Besson blasting are scenes which probably made those sources I gave you ages ago fit it into the action thriller genre. It's not predominantly action, but it fits the sub-genre. There are several sources calling The Hurt Locker an action thriller as well Washington Post, EOnline, Allrovi, etc. It treats the subject of war like action film I suppose, but there are several sources. I've never seen Saving Private Ryan but you gave me something like this as a source many moons back. It's not good enough for wikipedia, but maybe it's good enough for you? Edit-warring at Epic film

[edit]

Your recent editing history at Epic film shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Another Green World & Arena.

[edit]

Hi, Hope you're ok with me putting back my bit about the BBC programme, along with a ref you rightly noted was missing. I think many people in the UK (myself included) know the music from this long running series. I'd already added the ref in the wiki article on the Arena programme, but I guess it needed to be directly in this article too. I was unsure about putting it so near beginning of the article, but it didn't seem to fit under the other headings. Hope you're ok with this.

Prometheus

[edit]

Multiple reviews refer to it as being an action and a horror and the film's own writer has called it an Action-Horror-Thriller. It does not belong primarily to one genre and after I put in place a compromise, restoring that view with 3 questionable sources, one I already said, the second one review, and the third not actually saying anyhting (it refers to it as action and horror but never a horror film), really ignorant. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 12:19, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Uhh, Roger Ebert and The Huffinton Post are not questionable sources. I've added more on the talk page.Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:29, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not questioning the source itself, I'm questioning that it backs up your act of removing science fiction as a category and replacing it primarily with science fiction horror. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 12:34, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To be fair, it is still in the category:"2010s science fiction films", and the category "American science fiction films" is also part of "American science fiction films" cat, so I just added this cat with my additional sources. I don't think it removes anything you said, but just expands on it. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:37, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring

[edit]

Hi Andrzejbanas. You recent editing at The Hunger Games (film) constitutes edit warring. You made five reverts on the page within 24 hours, which break the three-revert rule and would be enough to have you blocked. As you have not edited there for a little while, I will not block you; however, if edit warring behaviour continues, I or other admins may do so. Please remember that, unless covered by the exemptions, you should not make more than three reverts on a page in 24 hours. Restoring the 'consensus version' is not and excuse - what the consensus is often forms the basis of the dispute. Instead, try discussing the issue on the talk page and try dispute resolution is necessary. If you believe an editor to be ignoring discussion completely, there are steps to follow at WP:DE. In all of these cases, making more than three reverts is still inappropriate. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 16:14, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) ITsZippy if you will investigate you will see that Andrzejbanas was reverting long time and prolific sockpuppetter Pé de Chinelo. This will give you an idea of how many times this editor has returned in various guises Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Pé de Chinelo BTW this is an incomplete list. If you will look at the work that we had to do in cleaning up edits by Pé Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Vandalism by 201.19.*.*, some of which left vandalism in articles for over a year, you will understand why reverting his edits is one of the exemptions to 3rr. From past experience I can tell you that DR would not have even looked at this case. If you will look at a couple [3] examples [4] of the torrent of abuse that Andrzejbanas has had to endure through the years you might begin to understand why he and other editors like myself revert Pé's nonsense on sight and we will continue to do so. I am glad that you did not issue a block and I hope that you will investigate things more thoroughly in these situations. MarnetteD | Talk 19:17, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note. If the IP was a sockpuppet then 3RR would not apply, you're right. I was not aware of the sockpuppetting issue; thanks for bringing it to my attention, and sorry for the misunderstanding. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 10:48, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And thanks to you for your understanding. Even if an editor had been here from day one it would be hard to keep track of all the editors who do not have WikiP's best interests at heart. I only can remember a handful but this is one of the longest and most persistent ones that we have had. Thanks to you Andrzejbanas as well. Your vigilance is always appreciated. MarnetteD | Talk 11:37, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are most welcome A. Your work - whenever you have time to give it - is much appreciated. As frustrating as dealing with Pe is it is more frustrating to never have enough money to get all the DVDs that we want from the Criterion Collection :-) Their release last month of Harold and Maude is a treat. Cheers and best wishes to you on Wiki and off. MarnetteD | Talk 11:59, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed! I managed to pick it for my fiancé by winning a contest of there's a on twitter. I got an early order copy before they slightly ruined the cover by putting far too much text on it. I lucked out on that one. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:10, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats - free DVDs and one of CC's too boot! Also many congrats on the engagement. That is some good karma you got going. The revival theater in Denver used to pair H&M with King of Hearts. It's still hard for me to watch the one without pulling the other off the shelf. Best regards. MarnetteD | Talk 12:27, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FYI

[edit]

Hi again. I just wanted to let you know that I filed this report Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Pé de Chinelo since Pe returned to his disruptive ways. I also wanted to know about this thread User talk:Fayenatic london#Admitted sockpuppet. We will see what comes of these but your vigilance at the Hunger Games talk page helped to slow/stop things before too much time had past. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 16:47, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It took awhile but the latest incarnation of Pe did get blocked [5]. He is far too addicted to messing around here for this to be the end of it so please feel free to let me know the next time your spidey sense er "Andrzejbanas sense" starts tingling and I will get back to work on what needs to be done. Your normal editing time is too valuable in what you do to have to deal with the red tape of dealing with this Yahoo (and I don't mean the website) Cheers. Hard Target UK DVD

[edit]

You recently removed my edits to Hard Target regarding the UK DVD being the unrated version because I hadn't referenced a source - I understand, but how can I reference a DVD? I've seen the American R-rated cut on television and I own the UK DVD and the latter definitely contains a longer, more violent cut of the film. There are webstes online listing the differences between the two, but as they aren't exactly official can they still be referenced?--Leigh Burne (talk) 07:41, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This page lists the differences between the R-rated and unrated cuts of the film (and points out that the latter is available on DVD in Region 2) but it's not exactly an official site so I don't know if it would qualify as a reliable source. Plus the site's actually run by some Germans, and some of the English translation isn't very good... But it does have images comparing the two versions.--Leigh Burne (talk) 10:25, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so because on their about page, (http://www.movie-censorship.com/page_en.php?Show=Contact) they state you can submit your own DVD comparisons, suggesting they take in user-based submissions. This is non-professional and not really accepted by wikipedia. I'd like to include the information, but I don't think this is an appropriate source either. Orphaned non-free media (File:A-Simple-Noodle-Story-poster.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:A-Simple-Noodle-Story-poster.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:01, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Return of the living deadposter.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Return of the living deadposter.jpg.

Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:39, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your vandalism noticeboard request: 2.222.145.217

[edit]

Hi. This person's issues looked like an editorial dispute, not the type of vandalism for which we use the vandalism noticeboard. See:

I declined to block them but I did leave a message for them at User talk:2.222.145.217. I suggest you use Dispute Resolution for these sorts of issues.

Thanks for keeping an eye on our content. --A. B. (talkcontribs) 23:15, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited List of horror films of 2012, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Peter Knight (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey!

[edit]

Hey, i know I've promised to help you with articles in the past, but things have always come up. But I'd still like to help out sometime if I can. What are your current projects? WesleyDodds (talk) 11:48, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Currently on the radar for the project: Indopug and I are going to put up Blur (band) for GAN soon and Brandt Luke Zorn is almost ready to take a big one -- OK Computer -- to FAC, so if you want to give either of those a look it'd be very welcome. Review comment

[edit]

Hi. Would you mind commenting on this discussion? It involves if a review source is acceptable or not. Dan56 (talk) 22:24, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi:-)

[edit]

Hi, since nobody wanted to give me a chance when I asked, I am coming back to my vandalism routine, except my edits on Leon are not vandalism, as Leon is not action film and barely has any action, the action in that film doesn't last even 10 seconds.

Good bye, Have fun reverting my edits, I tried to be nice, but nobody gave me a chance, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.35.33.40 (talk) 20:32, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
