File:50_peso_Moneda_Nacional_1964_B.jpg

Hello Alex,

could you please put the image named in the subject as "public domani" instead of "fair use"?

I can't use it for the italian version of the page "Argentine peso moneda nacional".

Thank you very much.

Inca Empire

I just wanted to check with you since you're the one who's name was associated with the restriction on editing for the Inca Empire page. The most recent edit I made (years ago changed to before present) brought something to my attention. The statement says that the Inca's probably began 9500 years ago (7500 BC). But then it goes on to say that the first ruler's estimated reign started in 1250 AD. Those are vastly different dates. So I was hoping you might know why, or rather which one it should be if only one. Infero Veritas (talk) 15:58, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I've no idea. I am not an expert on the subject nor a frequent editor on that page; just the admin that put a timeout on editing due to excessive vandalism. The article is only semi-protected which means you can edit as an established editor. This restriction only applies to new editors and to IP addresses (e.g. non-registered users). If you have information to add or fix, please do so and don't forget to supply reliable sources. Happy wiking. -- Alexf(talk) 19:44, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Argetina edit

Hi

Thanks for spotting that - my Twinkle went funny, it didn't call up the extra window for the warning and just saved the page

What can I do about it if that happens again ?--Chaosdruid (talk) 13:24, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Not much I guess. It is not that important. -- Alexf(talk) 13:45, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

It would be nice if you pointed to them, explaining what you are talking about. If you have a shared IP maybe somebody else did it. It would also be wonderful if you started a new section instead of tagging into an unrelated one, and even better if you signed your posts (hint: add four tildes). -- Alexf(talk) 01:45, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Looking at your postings I see you are referring to something done in Aug 2007?! -- Alexf(talk) 01:47, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Problem template

Hi, could you delete {{Club Atlético River Plate managers}} and its talkpage, they seem to be erroneously created pages probably caused by the confusion over the misnaming of {{River Plate managers}}. Then you have a conflict of interest issue. Your edits were unreferenced, sounded very strongly as original research and had a definite non-neutral point of view. I understand as you work for them to want to make a complete encyclopedic entry, but it also may mean you may want, even inadvertently, to present them in a good-light and make a little advertisement or PR. You have to understand our rules and policies, especially when editing articles about your employer. -- Alexf(talk) 14:55, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok i see. i`ll make it neutral. Thanks.

Hi Alex, been noticing a lot of vandals on Dorothy Day's pg in the last month. Rpted 3 or 4 of them in the last hour. I hope you'll ban the latest person I posted on the reporting pg. I'm obv fine with the user READING wiki, but not EDITING wiki. I assume "Bans" are for editing? Thanks, Alex (esp for your hard work) Beansandveggies (talk) 11:04, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

You mean block, not ban which is different. The proper way to report vandals, after issuing proper warnings. is to report them to AIV. Thank you for your help. -- Alexf(talk) 11:09, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

I wish and hope that you would consider undeleting my page on musician Scott Eric Olivier. I think it was speedy deleted, and wanted to verify whether this was true or not. Re: Alexf ... A Request to Undelete "Interfaith Furnishings"

Dear Alexf,

Greetings, Alexf.

Ironically, this nonprofit was deemed newsworthy, and was featured, in the Morris County Section of the Star-Ledger, New Jersey's largest newspaper, - today: http://www.nj.com/starledger/stories/index.ssf?/base/news-5/1235280345279350.xml&coll=1

I see that you cite: A7. An article about a real person, an organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability. This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people and organizations themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software and so on. The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source. If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can improve the article yourself, propose deletion, or list the article at articles for deletion.

This organization is significant as a nonprofit - as is Habitat for Humanity, which is included in Wikipedia. This organization provides furniture for the poor from those who choose to donate furniture.

If need be, I will enhance - or rewrite the page - per your additional guidance.

Cordially, Updated signature --Notablenews (talk) 08:37, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Article restored. You have to work on it soon and assert notability else it will be deleted again. Please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) at the end. -- Alexf(talk) 12:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Dear Alexf,

Thank you for restoring the article. I have also read the guidelines for "notability." Namely: An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. I am confident that "Interfaith Furnishings" meets this criteria, given that it has currently been covered:

Two times by New Jersey's largest independent newspaper (The Star-Ledger, which also won a Pulitzer Prize four years ago for its coverage of Governor Jim McGreevey’s resignation)

Two times by one of New Jersey's largest independent newspapers (The Daily Record)

This is significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. There is no greater validity within New Jersey. Furthermore, these papers circulate in the New York Metro area, and are therefore subject to greater attention - and scrutiny - than most publications in the U.S. Therefore, I respectfully ask that you acknowledge this argument as sufficient - and conclusive.

Sincerely, --Notablenews (talk) 08:35, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Jet Red (band) page

Thanks for your note. I apologize for the lack of information provided. Most of the info comes directly from interviews either published on line or personally through direct communication with the founder of the band. These are all found at jetred.com. I am not sure of the format and tried my best. Any help in changing the name from Jet Red Band to Jet Red (band) would be great. I tried using a template from another band so it was close to the proper format.

Please advise on necessary next steps.

Regards,

Kdrew (talk) 21:01, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Ken

There was no assertion of notability of any kind, especially under WP:BAND. The only external references provided where social networks (MySpace) which are not acceptable sources and the band's own site, hardly a reliable source. If you have any sourcing to comply with WP:BAND I'd be willing to restore it, else it stays as-is. -- Alexf(talk) 11:57, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Kdrew (talk) 14:54, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Is this the sort of acceptable site/reference you require: http://www.sleazeroxx.com/bands/jetred/jet.shtml or

http://www.sleazeroxx.com/interviews/hinesint.shtml where it talks about providing back up vocals for Supertramp's Roger Hodson? I am not sure how one goes about documenting actual interviews with band members of a band other than posting them. Their drummer, Billy Carmasi, went on to play with Aldo Nova.

Kdrew (talk) 14:32, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Try this as well: http://www.suncityrecords.com/main.php

Kdrew (talk) 14:32, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Ken, I can't try external links (I'm at work). Also, it is not for me to decide. I am not an expert on the subject, and don't have the time to check every item on every page. The proper procedure for you to follow, when you have these issues, is to post in the article's Talk Page. First, create the article in a subpage in your userspace. Then, when ready to post, create the article with all the reliable sources you can find. Please read Your First Article if you have not already done so, for helpful information. Also read WP:MUSIC for notability requirements. Other editors that are familiar with the music subject (it is our of my interests), will comment and help. All I did, was respond to a speedy deletion request and agreed with the editor on the state of the article at the time. Thanks. -- Alexf(talk) 14:41, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

That page was frequently vandalized, but there were (stub) versions that were not patent nonsense. I'm inclined to think that it should probably be recreated--and permanently semi-protected so that it doesn't turn into pure fancruft. Should I take this to deletion review, or what? TallNapoleon (talk) 07:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

I do not agree. I re-checked back and see that the stub you mentioned only said: Miley Jab Hum Tum (MJHT) is an Indian campus-based romantic television series that airs from Monday to Thursday at 9 p.m. on Star One. This does not assert notability. Just because it is a TV-program, that in itself does not make it notable IMO. I can restore it to your userspace for you to add notability sourcing if you want (as-is it had no sources of any kind). Do you have any decent sourcing? -- Alexf(talk) 11:48, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Nah, I don't feel that strongly about it. I just figured that it actually being a TV show established notability. I'd recommend indef-semi-protecting against page and talk page creation, though. It has a legion of fairly idiotic fans. TallNapoleon (talk) 18:16, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Ernest Bryant

I appreciate that this is just a short note on a person - not a living one! My reason is that, as I stated, Ernest Bryant was one of the contributors to the first (1910) edition of Arthur Mee's Children's Encyclopædia, and I have listed him as such on that page [[1]] along with others who are better known; maybe this will cause someone else to contribute information.

However, I do not insist!

Bergerie (talk) 11:00, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

I saw no references to show notability. If you have some, I'd be willing to restore it to your userspace for you to work on. -- Alexf(talk) 11:54, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

DeepPeep

Alex, you are very quick on the draw deleting DeepPeep--I run out to the bank before I get to finish writing and it's gone. Besides, I disagree that it had no meaningful content; it just didn't have a lot of content. Your quick response is appreciated. Drmies (talk) 19:21, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

OK. The content was: DeepPeep is a search engine that aims to crawl and index every database on the public Web.. Besides this being a big claim, what makes it notable? There are many search engines and bot crawlers out there. I did not see a claim of notability. I restored the article and added a {{hangon}} tag for you so you have a little time to work on it and assert notability under WP:WEB. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 19:27, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate it. BTW, I'm not kidding--I did have to run to the bank! Thanks again, Drmies (talk) 19:46, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Matthew Barzun

Hi,

You deleted a page I created on Matthew Barzun. You noted his lack of notability, which is fair, considering that I didn't have time to flesh out the article entirely on my first go 'round.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Matthew_Barzun&action=edit&redlink=1

Here's a haiku:

The man, Matthew B
He helped found CNET, oh yeah!
Obama money

Allow me to elaborate: He was a big wig at CNET, and he has been very instrumental in the Obama Presidential Campaign of 2008. A super delegate, even! Raised a lot of money. I have more info on the guy I was planning to include from the 'net, but didn't get around to it. Should I rewrite with more info?

Deletion of Stain Blocking Primers Page

Hello Alex,

I posted a new page for my client, Eliokem back in October of 2008. The page was titled: 'Stain Blocking Primers': Stain_Blocking_Primers.

You deleted the page yesterday. The citation read as follows:

12:33, 26 February 2009 Alexf (Talk | contribs) deleted "Stain Blocking Primers" ‎ (G12: Blatant copyright infringement of http://www.pcimag.com/PCI/Protected/Files/PDF/Virtual_Supplier_Brochures/Eliokem.pdf)

The information included on that page came directly from an employee of Eliokem, which owns StainBlockingPrimers.com. Some of the information also appears in a PDF file that is located on www.pcimag.com, The information in that PDF comes directly from Eliokem. Since the company wrote it, we cannot understand how it could be a copyright infringement-- the information and the web site that is credited (www.stainblockingprimers.com) are both owned by Eliokem.

Thanks.

Hello Jennifer. What we have here is a lack of understanding of Wikipedia's rules and policies. Just because they wrote the page, unless it states the content is in the public domain, or otherwise covered by a GNU Free Documentation License, it cannot be used. Please read about our copyright policies, copyright violations and about requesting copyright permission. Catmandoo

Dear Alexf, I do not think it is fair for you to delete Catmandoo's wiki page. He is a legit fictional charecter amoing the youth of Boulder, Colorado, and you have to authority to say otherwise. Please, when I re-create the page, don't delete it. Plus, fictional charecters are not eligible for deletion.

respectfully, bugy111 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bugy111 (talkcontribs) 15:24, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

You are incorrect. Non-notable fictional characters may be not eligible for speedy deletion but certainly for deletion. This was not a case of a marginally notable character but a case of WP:MADEUP. What you call "legit fictional character among the youth of Boulder, Colorado" is meaningless to Wikipedia. What counts here is proof of notability through reliable sources. You can read the MOS for more information on writing about fiction-- Alexf(talk) 15:59, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
