Persona 2 question

As you appear to be interested in the old Persona titles, I wanted your advice on something. Once Persona is passed GA, I'm planning to giving a similar treatment to Persona 2. However, as its two games that don't stand very well as their own articles, I have been in a slight quandary about how to treat their reception section. Not withstanding the fact that nearly the entire article as it stands needs rewriting from the ground-up, the reception section is a particular bother as there are often multiple reviews from one site (GameSpot as two reviews for Innocent Sin, and one for Eternal Punishment, while Famitsu has two reviews for each game). This would make a standard table a little untidy, or at least odd-looking. I thought I could use something similar to the one used for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, but an experiment I did showed that the table broke when I tried to put the game titles in place of platforms. Can you help, or give any suggestions? --ProtoDrake (talk) 13:16, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

@ProtoDrake: There are a couple of options. First, there's the obvious one: Make two separate sections for the receptions of the two games, with their own separate review tables. You could also make just one section and use a custom-made table. That would probably look quite odd, though, unless most of the publications have reviewed both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment... and considering the wide gap between the English releases for the two games, that might no be the case (I don't know though, I don't look much at video game reviews outside of when editing Wikipedia). I'd probably go for the first option if there's enough to say about the reception of each individual title, but, you know, you're a more experienced editor than I am. I'm definitely interested in the Megami Tensei series, and Persona 2 happens to be my favorite, but I don't think I know more about how to write good articles than you do. --IDVtalk 22:25, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
I've found a separate solution, which presents its own little challenge. Having looked at the amount of GA-admissable and individual information available, I'm planning on creating separate articles for Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. This creates a different (possible) problem as these titles currently redirected to the Persona 2 page. Any ideas on that front? If you don't, one of us can take it to someone who might know, or to the VG WikiProject talk page, where it's bound to be noticed. --ProtoDrake (talk) 06:33, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, but I'm unsure what the problem you're having is. Forgive me if this is not it, but are you asking how to edit a redirect? If so, I just follow the redirect, then go up to the top of the target page and click the "(Redirected from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment)" link, which leads to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Persona_2:_Eternal_Punishment&redirect=no and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Persona_2:_Innocent_Sin&redirect=no respectively in this case.--IDVtalk 12:44, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Ah, I forgot to ping you. Just doing that now, since I don't know if you have my talk page on your watchlist.--IDVtalk 12:45, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
Ah, sorry. Forgot to make things clear. It was the problem of moving the main Persona 2 page to Persona 2: Innocent Sin when the time comes, and there already being a redirect page to it. I remember trying that once and it not going well, so I am hesitant. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:05, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Right. Redirects with a history can't be "overwritten" just by moving a page to their location, so you'll have to ask an admin or something to delete the redirect, thus making room for the move.--IDVtalk 01:19, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Help request

Hello there. I've just done a little work on Shin Megami Tensei if.... Not planning on much more, but could you give it a look over to tidy it up a bit. This was just a flash project born of curiosity and circumstance for me. If anyone wants to take it any further, they are welcome to. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:56, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

@ProtoDrake: Oh hey, what a coincidence. I just started working on the articles for the SNES SMT games myself on the Swedish Wikipedia (with the intention to translate stuff into English and use it here as well). I've been having problems finding sources though, particularly for the reception sections of SMTII and SMT If... (SMTI was no problem, partially because it was localized last year, but there were also a few "import reviews", which I can't find any of for the other two games). I know of Famitsu, but they don't seem to post complete reviews on their site, not even for old games... do you know of any other Japanese sites that can be used, that have been around long enough to review these games, and that post reviews online? --IDVtalk 14:40, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Oh, and I notice I didn't really answer your question, haha. Yeah, I'll take a look at it, but it's already been taken much further than I've gotten with "my" version at svwp, and I was having trouble finding sources, so... I probably can't add too much.--IDVtalk 14:50, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Game Watch Impress has reviews that I've used on old Tales games that weren't released overseas. ITMedia has reviews I think, but not sure. Aside from that, no, I can't think of any easily obtainable sources. if... was just blind luck, and even then I couldn't find anything more about reception. Such is the curse of Megami Tensei: not a lot to go on. --ProtoDrake (talk) 14:52, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Thanks! Yeah, it might not be useful for If..., but I should be able to use that site as a source in some other articles. Actually, I did find this French review of If..., but I don't speak French at all, and I don't know if this Legendra site is usable as a source on WP.--IDVtalk 15:02, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Don't know. I tried using a review from a similar French site called GameKult when I was getting Tales of Rebirth to GA status. The reviewer asked if it was reliable, and I didn't want to chance it, so I removed it, though I could see nothing wrong with it. You might also try there for reviews. As for Legendra, I haven't a clue. Worth a try. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:10, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Took a closer look at the If... article. There's a sentence in the dev section that isn't finished, and ends with multiple references ("Ito makes a cameo in-game as the school's [4][5][7][8]"). Could you finish this? I also wonder if "If..." really should be written with a lowercase "i" when it's written on its own (without the "Shin Megami Tensei" part of the title) - this particularly stands out when it's the first word of a sentence. If it's acceptable, then that's fine, I guess, but capital initials increase readability, as it makes it easier for the reader to spot the beginning of a sentence. Finally, I wonder if the part about how the Hazama game originally was meant to be part of the main game could go in the dev section instead. I find it far more interesting and important that part of the game was cut, considered to be released after the main game as a limited release, and eventually released on phones, than that a side game came out on phones... so yeah, it makes more sense to me to put it in the dev section. --IDVtalk 10:22, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the comments. The Ito bit was hangover from a misunderstood piece of information in the cited interview with him that I abandoned and corrected, but forgot to remove entirely. You're right that just using lower-case "if" is not the best thing, so I used the full Shin Megami Tensei if... as it's not a long title and removes the problem. Also moved the bit about Hazama's Chapter into the dev section. Never thought I would live to see the day when I worked so successfully on a SFC game's article. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:40, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Re: Persona 2

Everything in those pages is everything I could cite. They're as complete as they can be. As to nominating them for GA and such, I made myself cross-eyed with them, and I've got a Featured Article candidate, two Good Articles waiting for review, one Good Article that I've agreed to review, and progressive rewrites on the Fatal Frame / Project Zero series (three down and three or four to go), along with stuff outside my Wiki-persona. As far as I'm concerned, you can take the Persona 2 pages the rest of the way, and do what you need to.

And about adding Shin Megami Tensei to my page, I only add pages that I have brought to GA personally. And actually, it was your work on it before I came along that gave me the impetus to take it as far as I did. You should take proper credit, and be proud of it. --ProtoDrake (talk) 18:49, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

@ProtoDrake: All right, cool - just wanted to check before I nominate them, in case you wanted to add something to them or go through the GA process yourself. And yeah, I've noticed that you're very productive - I fully understand not wanting to take on even more GA work, in addition to what you are already doing. I still think you did a lot for Shin Megami Tensei, but I respect your opinion, and besides, it's your user page, not mine. But yes, I'm quite happy with my contribution as well.--IDVtalk 19:00, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

VLR

Hi there

I must say, you worked damn fast with those issues in VLR (I blame timezones and sleep for the lack of help on my part). Seriously though, thanks so much, it's nice to see this article finally brought up to GA status. Also in regards to the series page, I'll take a look at that soon, as I want to work on it in conjunction with 999. Famous Hobo (talk) 15:08, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

@Famous Hobo: No problem - the issues were all very minor. But yeah, it's nice to have it at GA after all that time. I'm grateful for any help with series page, and will help out with 999 as well. Would be nice to make a Zero Escape Good Topic (or maybe even a Kotaro Uchikoshi GT? I'm working on Never 7 at the moment, and intend to go through the rest of the Infinity games' articles, too. 12 Riven and Memories Off might be difficult since they aren't available in English in any form, though...) --IDVtalk 21:34, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
That Uchikoshi GT might be a stretch, but the Zero Escape GT is definitely the goal. If you really want that Uchikoshi GT, I'll try and help out with the other games, though the Zero Escape games are the only one's I've played. Famous Hobo (talk) 21:43, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
@Famous Hobo: Yeah... an Uchikoshi GT is a goal I'll work towards, but I don't expect to reach it, not anytime soon anyway. While I always appreciate help, don't feel like you have to. I know that I would definitely not want to edit an article about a story-heavy game without having first played it myself.--IDVtalk 23:27, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
