I also want to mention that it is customary to discuss moving articles to a different name on their talk pages before moving them, unless the article name violates some Wikipedia policy, for example on the format of the name. I have noticed that you have moved several articles without discussion. Please discuss the moves in the future, and give otehrs a reasonable amount of time, e.g., a week or so, before mving the article. Thanks. And thank you again for your many contributions. Canadian links
[edit]Hi Alex, I noticed you've been add external links to the Canadian websites of companies like Expedia, Google, and Yahoo. We generally just link to the main URL of each company (.com for U.S. based companies), not each of their national domains. This is to keep the external link list down to a minimum-- imagine if we were to link to every other nation! Do you agree with this? Thanks. -SpuriousQ (talk) 01:45, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Headings
[edit]Alex, please review WP:MOSHEAD. This is the part of the Wikipedia Manual of Style that explains how words in headings should and should not be capitalized. Words in headings should be capitalized the same way you would capitalize words in a sentence:
- The first word is capitalized;
- all of the following words have lower case (small) letters at the start unless they are proper nouns. The Wikipedia article on proper nouns will help you understand what nouns are proper and what nouns are common.
Thanks. And thanks for all of your contributions on transit and other articles! Ground Zero | t 23:17, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of 2007 TTC subway murder
[edit]An editor has nominated 2007 TTC subway murder, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2007 TTC subway murder and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to PoolExpert. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites ({{{url}}} in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en@wikimedia.org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:PoolExpert with a link to where we can find that note;
- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:PoolExpert with a link to the details.
Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:PoolExpert saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.
It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Wildthing61476 21:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Do not "move" pages by copy-and-pasting text. This is not permissible per the GFDL as it looses the history of who contributed the text. If there is a page move you would like to see made and you cannot make it yourself (due to a redirect that needs to be deleted, etc.), you need to list it at WP:RM. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Capitalization and being careful
[edit]Alex, I understand that you want to contibute to Wikipedia, and that you do contribute a lot of good material, but I must ask you to be more careful in your editing. Your often sloppy edits force other editors, like me, to clean up after by correcting your mistakes. The "C.W. Jeffreys Collegiate Institute Massacure" article that you created is a good example. If you are at all unsure how to spell a word, like "massacre', please look it up. Don't just assume that someone else will clean up your mess. You also do not seem to understand how words are capitalized in English. In German, nouns are always capitalized, but this is not true in English. They are only capitalized if they are 'proper nouns as I have pointed out above. Here is a useful link that will help you learn more about proper capitalization: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(capital_letters). Regards, Ground Zero | t 18:01, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Logo citytv.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Logo citytv.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Please do not redirect Scream (TV channel) to SCREAM Television. And especially don't redirect a page without discussing it in the "TALK PAGE" first. Capitalization and being careful again
[edit]Alex, I have explained to you how your often sloppy edits force other editors, like me, to clean up after by correcting your mistakes. Please review Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(capital_letters) and WP:MSH, and please be careful when entering your edits. I am getting fed up with cleaning up after you. Just curious - are you aware of some other company named "CHUM Limited"? Unless there's some sort of ambiguity I don't know about, there's no need to add the years of operation to the title, or to add a disambiguation header to the page. — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 18:31, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Capitalization yet again, and linking
[edit]Alex, someone, whom I believe to be you, just added a heading in the CablePulse24 article that read: "Noted Programs produced by other CTVglobemedia departments". Given what you should know by now about
- capitalization of headings, and
- linking within headings,
why did you make this mess of a heading? WP:MSH is a straightforward guideline. Long-time editors like you should be able to follow this without difficulty.
If I am mistaken, and it was someone else who did this, please accept my apologies. Ground Zero | t 15:45, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:SunTV_logo_blackoutline_new.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:SunTV_logo_blackoutline_new.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. Fair use rationale for Image:May2307-manners.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:May2307-manners.jpg. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Gm logo.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Gm logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:07, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:May1607-marbletile_rdax_320x240.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:May1607-marbletile_rdax_320x240.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:27, 15 December 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih (talk) 04:27, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Speedy deletion of Image:Pk img1.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:Pk img1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Pk img1.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Achannelmorning.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Achannelmorning.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:14, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Bendale Business and Technical Institute shooting
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Bendale Business and Technical Institute shooting, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image permission problem with Image:A-Channel Windsor Studio.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:A-Channel Windsor Studio.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 20:32, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of 2009 Toronto Blackout
[edit]The article 2009 Toronto Blackout has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- per WP:NOTNEWS, this is not a notable blackout.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. –xenotalk 21:35, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on 2009 Workers Compensation Board of Alberta hostage crisis, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Eja2k (talk) 23:12, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:CP24 enriched screen.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:CP24 enriched screen.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ZooFari 23:47, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2009 Workers Compensation Board of Alberta hostage crisis. If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. DVD
[edit]I have moved DVD back to its original title. Please note that DVD stands primarily for "Digital Versatile Disk" and that "Digital Video Disk" is a secondary, although also notable, interpretation. The article should not be moved without discussion on the talk page. Also, you may not have noticed that the article source contains embedded comments explaining why the acronym should not be changed. It always pays to think twice before making changes of this type. Sometimes you see something that is "obviously" wrong but sometimes you later realise that it was not so obvious what was going on. It is better to have that moment of realisation before you change things so, yes, be bold but also be careful. --DanielRigal (talk) 22:41, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Jan1609-blackoutlarge.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Jan1609-blackoutlarge.jpg.
Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 21:34, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Nhl network-primary.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Nhl network-primary.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:12, 17 February 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:12, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:43, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

When uploading screenshots be sure to select "It is a screenshot taken of a movie, TV program, computer game, web site, computer program, music video, or similar source" under "Where is the media from?" to prevent your future screenshots from being deleted.--Svgalbertian (talk) 05:26, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

License tagging for File:CTV News Channel logo.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:CTV News Channel logo.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 13:09, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

I have explained my edits ont he article's talk page. If you disagree with any of them, please raise the issue on the talk page and get a concensus for making your change before you make it. Otherwise, you're just edit warring, and that can lead to being blocked from editing. It's a waste of time. My edits are valid attempts to improve the readability of the article. I do not understand why you would revert them without discussion. Ground Zero | t 16:28, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
