Unsatisfactory use of Igloo from NerdyScienceDude
Hello, Ale jrb. Your tool, igloo, is very powerful; I like it as a Mac user. However, as with all automated programs, users may go too fast or use the tool for disruption. NerdyScienceDude (talk · contribs) has been performing reverts quite quickly, not even fully analyzing the edit. igloo places a vadalism warning on user's talkpages (it should be used for reverting vandalism only); a very bitey effect is generated when the reverter is incorrect. NSD has been scrutinized for his misuse of igloo and most targets are new users; see discussion all over his talkpage. I wanted to make you aware of this problem; NSD has been asked to stop. Therefore, if this misuse continues, I will ask you to place him on a blacklist for igloo. I wanted to give you a heads-up in case there is a further issue. mono 02:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Has NSD continued to be over-aggressive even since his final warning on May 28? —Soap— 02:24, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- It seems to me like he's slowed down. I think that reporting himself woke him up. And mono, I would like it if you would answer what I said at the deletion discussion for NSD's vandalism page. I'll post them again here; please give me an answer. "Mono, maybe you should figure out what your position is on these things, you are a mass of contradictions. You support the deletion of guestbooks, but you have one. You don't like cabals, but you joined this one. I think you should pick a side and stay with it." Hi878 (talk) 00:16, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi878 is correct. I have slowed down with my reverts, and I use igloo less frequently. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 13:13, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for your comments. I think that this is more a case of rollback 'misuse' than any particular tool, and if you are still having problems with NSD's use of rollback, you should report that at the appropriate venue. I will, of course, take your comments on board - thanks for bringing it to my attention. Ale_Jrbtalk 09:22, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- OK, if it becomes an issue, I'll report there. mono 20:22, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Hide "top" edits
These scripts seem to be your specialty, so I thought I would ping you first. I am looking for a simple .js that will hide "top" edits from special:contributions. Default off, with toggle-on. –xenotalk 16:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'll look into it. Ale_Jrbtalk 22:03, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Use importScript ( 'User:Ale_jrb/Scripts/tophide.js' ) // [[User:Ale_jrb/Scripts]] - it will hide all top edits, and has a toggle on/off. To set the default, use var topHideDefault = 'show/hide'; depending on what you want. Be advised that popups will stop working once you've toggled the page, so set the default to what you'll normally want. Ale_Jrbtalk 20:27, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- Awesome! It's unfortunate that popups breaks though. No way to resolve that? –xenotalk 20:34, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- I believe popups dynamically attaches its event handlers. Short of copying the event handlers, which is extremely difficult to do and would slow it down sufficiently to render it useless, there is nothing that can be done. Keep in mind that so long as the import for popups is below that for this script, they will work until you toggle the state, and will start working again if you refresh the page. Ale_Jrbtalk 20:37, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- Cheers, mate. –xenotalk 20:45, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

- This might be a tall order, is it possible to also hide previous pages that are part of a later "(top)" edit? i.e. I make two edits in a row to Wikipedia:Sandbox, the latest one is a "top" edit, I would want the earlier one hidden as well. Thanks in advance! –xenotalk 15:37, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- Could probably be done. I'll take a look. Ale_Jrbtalk 12:46, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

- How hard would it be to add a variable that moves the show/hide button to where yours had it? –xenotalk 20:52, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Whitelist/Blacklist
Hello again. I had the idea of giving rollbackers the option of whitelisting or blacklisting users. This idea came to mind when I was igloo-ing just now and saw a number of helpful contributors not on the whitelist as well as some hugglers who had been blacklisted. Is this possible? Thanks, Airplaneman ✈ 23:44, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- I've been working on something along those lines for a while; it's going to be in the next release. So I agree that it's a good idea. ;) Ale_Jrbtalk 09:51, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Cool; as usual, can't wait for the next release! Airplaneman ✈ 15:18, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Natalee Holloway
I agree with the reverts, but not the vandalism warnings. The anon is adding essentially true information, just redundant and poorly written. Help keeping an eye on the article is appreciated: as it stands, van der Sloot is still a suspect, but you know there are going to be people acting as if he has already been convicted.—Kww(talk) 23:27, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm - thanks for the heads up. The initial addition of the information in particular - at the bottom of the article, an odd comment that seems out-of-place is a typical vandalism indicator, but if it's true then oops... have removed warnings. Ale_Jrbtalk 23:39, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
I Need Help With Medal Record Table Option/Template
Hello,
I would like to know how to make the medal record table/template like the one in this profile: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Chan
Especially I am interested in how to make show/hide.... like the HTML coding or whatever its called.
In addition, Can I use that kind of medal record table/template for national teams of countries for sports like hockey to display how many medals they have from Olympics and World Cup and etc?
I believe it would make good sense to use them since you wouldn't have to scroll down to see how many medals each country has in there profile and if they take too much room on the page you can just use the hide option.
Thanks, FrostBlaze
- It depends on the article, really. Check to see if similar articles on the same sort of topic as you are writing about use the technique. If they do, you should try and do it in the same way as them, and if they don't, then you should consider not using it at all. Ale_Jrbtalk 13:20, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
igloo is starting up
About how long should it take to start up?
I tried refreshing and it just stayed on "igloo is starting up" for several minutes. Becky Sayles (talk) 14:54, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- igloo should start up in a few seconds. Try fully clearing your browser cache (As in, tools > clear recent data > cache, or whatever it is for your browser), restart your browser, and try again. Ale_Jrbtalk 18:58, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

igloo question
Since I'm in some fear now, can I use an alternate account to use igloo, clearly mark as such and mail a checkuser about it, or something else? I don't want this account to get blocked/exposed. OpenTheWindows, sir! 17:28, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) You could use an alternate account for vandal-fighting, but it would need confirmed and rollback rights for igloo to work. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 17:32, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. OpenTheWindows, sir! 18:13, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Urgh
Could you take User:Traxs7 off of the blacklist? I seem to have accidentally reverted him. Hi878 (talk) 01:44, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have an idea for how to get rid of accidents like this. When you are looking at a diff, and someone else edits the page, it switches to the new diff. Maybe you could make it so that it doesn't switch, and then it doesn't let you revert that edit? Unless the person who made the new edit is the same person, of course. Just a thought. Hi878 (talk) 01:59, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- It seems that you should take User:M.thoriyan off of the blacklist, as well. User:Airplaneman reverted him, apparently. Hi878 (talk) 02:02, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- About the diff thing - how about a warning when you are reverting a whitelisted user, like when you are reverting yourself? Airplaneman ✈ 02:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- My development version 1.0l currently notifies you if you're reverting yourself, will never let you warn or report yourself, and will warn you if the page has changed since you started viewing it. I'm still working on some iglooNet stuff, so it will be a little while before it goes live. igloo should already warn you if you are reverting a whitelisted user... is it not working? Ale_Jrbtalk 09:33, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ah… my bad. I don't think I've reverted a whitelisted user because they rarely if ever show up in the queue :). Airplaneman ✈ 09:54, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Comment
I think you need to get a life. You're just a Wikipedia fanboy who just goes into emotional panic every time someone points out Wikipedia's inaccuracy. First of all, everything I said was true. Second, there was no way I could have possibly seen your warnings when I didn't even know my posts were posting, and third, there is a damn good reason why teachers, instructors, and professors don't consider Wikipedia a valid source of information. Stop taking this website too seriously and do something substantial with your life.96.37.149.166 (talk) 16:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
I must say, I first thought you deleted this post and I thought you were one of those types that think censorship is the answer to disagreement. Then, I found you had only moved it to a more appropriate place. Well, I have to give you that much. You are open to allowing people to publicly disagree with you. I still think you take Wikipedia too seriously, though. It's a good place to start, but if you're expecting accurate information, it should never be more than the first stop. You are, however, more reasonable than my first impression. 96.37.149.166 (talk) 16:36, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Noted as well.--mono 23:45, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

I like the changes; accidentally erverting was the only problem I ever had, and now that won't happen. :) Also, I like having GLOO at the end, I think it's funny. :) Once again, fantastic job with all of this. Hi878 (talk) 00:43, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Secure igloo
Could you work in a secure (https://) version of igloo in the next release? Cheers, mono 23:48, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- I could possibly make it load from the secure server and use the secure API, but it would mean disabling iglooNet and thus the whitelisting of users, because I don't have SSL on my server. That may be worth it to you, I dunno. Ale_Jrbtalk 10:17, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- What does iglooNet do, exactly?--mono 20:05, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- It handles whitelisting of users, tagging as vandals, settings, and will soon handle the program filters. i.e. without it, you'd just get an unsorted list of changes. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:11, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

- To position it, you use {{User:Hi878/Igloo Icon|icon_nr=x}} So now, you have two userboxes and an icon, before you are even finished making it! Is this helping your ego enough? Hi878 (talk) 18:26, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- I wanted to use the icon that I used in the UBX that I made, but since this is the actual logo... But actually, I think this one looks better as an icon than the other one would does, so whatever. :) Hi878 (talk) 18:28, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

- Snazzy. :) Thanks. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:37, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- I put it on the main page for Igloo, re-word it however you want if you don't like the way I did it. I'm glad you like it. :) Hi878 (talk) 03:31, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

t
Yes, lower case t. I can't type it in the igloo search box. Is it possibly an access key or something? I can type upper case T, just not lower case. Would try typing in Q but that'd be problematic :). Airplaneman ✈ 19:01, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've fixed this in my dev release - due, of course, to Chrome's poor handling of keypress events compared to Firefox... I've also fixed the problem in Chrome where hitting backspace or F5 isn't intercepted by igloo and will throw you off the page. :) Ale_Jrbtalk 20:02, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Vector compatibility
Hello Ale jrb, just dropping by to say that Vector compatibility has been all but eliminated with the new release. It's no problem for me; I don't mind switching back. - I only ever use monobook. I hate vector. :) Hi878 (talk) 04:02, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

- I'm on FF right now and there is no igloo link from the toolbox and no "launch" button on the page itself. Could it have something to do with my User:Airplaneman/vector.js? Airplaneman ✈ 03:48, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hmmm... weird. Will try on FF later. Seems to work better in monobook, anyway. Please look at the vandal warning part, though :). Airplaneman ✈ 03:43, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- Same as above, working ok. mono 03:40, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- It works fine on vector when I use it. Firefox 3.6 on Mac OS X 10.6.3 (same OS as Airplaneman above). ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 03:38, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, I hate monobook. ;-) @Airplaneman - igloo is correctly imported into your js page. No issues there. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 04:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- When you say compatibility with Vector has died, what exactly isn't working? I'm not a fan of vector, but it would be better if it worked than not, I suppose. As for Emre666, I believe it rewarned from the beginning because the existing warning was more than three days old (I can't remember what I set the age limit too). igloo will ignore warnings that are too old, and restart from the beginning. Ale_Jrbtalk 10:14, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- I tried it out on vector, and apart from the text still appearing far too big, it works for me. Make sure you've fully cleared your browser cache, and try it in the other browser if you can, on both skins. Thanks. Ale_Jrbtalk 11:08, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have purged my cache about 15 times and tried FF (purging there too) but it isn't working. Probably something to do with my vector.js and/or the other tools I'm using. I wouldn't worry, as it works in vector for others; I'll be in monobook for now. Airplaneman ✈ 00:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- After messing around with my vector.js, igloo now works. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the clarification on the warnings. @mono: Cite mac now works as well! Airplaneman ✈ 01:19, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- Good to know. mono 01:35, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

same IP address?
either I'm a bit thick or we seem to have the same IP address, 94.196.167.97.
I only mention this as I got a message saying my edit on the Colour Wheel page wasn't that relevant, but I never posted an edit on that page...

I can't see the 'launch igloo' button after clearing the cache
I need help launching Igloo. I don't see a "launch igloo" link or button after clearing the cache. Can you help me with that? --RussianReversal (talk) 00:00, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) You must have the rollback permission before you can use igloo. Hi878 isn't home. (Can I take a message?) 00:11, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- You will need rollback to use igloo, yes, but that won't stop you seeing the link. What internet browser are you using? Ale_Jrbtalk 09:28, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
A tiny little idea for Igloo
Would adding some sort of thing for the reviewing process work? Here's what I had in mind: You click on a diff, and it happens to be one that needs to be accepted. It looks like a normal diff, except the accept button appears. You look at it, and rollback if it is bad, or accept if it is good. This would only work for the people with the reviewer permission, of course. Would something like this be a possibility, or would you want to wait until after the trial period ends? ~~ Hi878 (Come yell at me!) 23:22, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- Pending changes comes under the protection policy - igloo doesn't handle protection. It is also important to review all changes up to the latest unreviewed change, and that can't be done in igloo very easily. So I currently have no intention of doing that, no. Ale_Jrbtalk 10:20, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- It's just a trial, and in my opinion, they let waaaay too many reviewers handle the 20 articles with Pending Changes enabled. —mono 21:09, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- It's better than having just enough or too little. What harm does it do? Airplaneman ✈ 21:16, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- Well, yeah, but they'll have to un-allow people if it ever goes through. —mono 21:24, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- No, definitely won't be removing the right from anyone if it goes live - if it goes live, it's likely that many more people will be given it (if there are any trusted users who don't have it yet). The system is designed, really, to stop new editors doing it - to such a degree that it was almost any autoconfirmed user who could review. It isn't designed to put some sort of power in the hands of a few. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:52, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Help!
I have a request. Would you know how to make this work the way I am wanting it to? All of it is the way I want it, it all works, except the text doesn't actually appear in the edit box and sumary box. If you could help, I would really appreciate it. ~~ Hi878 (Come yell at me!) 02:15, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I just added quite a bit of stuff (quadrupled the size, actually), and now nothing at all happens. I was just guessing how to make it all work, and I would love to know how badly I messed it up. :) I wasn't too far off, was I? Anyhoo, I would love it if you could help me make all of it work. ~~ Hi878 (Come yell at me!) 06:22, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
And I had someone else fix it. So basically, ignore this whole section. :) ~~ Hi878 (Come yell at me!) 07:37, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Glad you fixed it. :) Ale_Jrbtalk 11:07, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
