I'm not really sure what to do with your behavior. I am restoring the French section to the version before our editing dispute. I suggest that you make yourself involved in the dispute resolution proces so as to make consensus, as I have begun doing, before making any more edits to the section. This problem will not solve itself solely by reverts and re-reverts.AEuSoes1 23:18, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I’m glad you’ve decided to work on compromising. I do like most of your edits but I’ve kept the nasal vowel and distinct-articulation paragraphs out. You’re going to need some sourcing on those two. Although I took out the diphthong paragraph, I won’t argue with its reinclusion as long as you replace the question marks:
  • The English diphthongs /eɪ/, /ɔɪ/, /aɪ/, /oʊ/, and /aʊ/ do not exist in French and speakers may monophthongize them into /e/, /??/, /??/, /o/, and /??/ respectively.
Also, just to clarify, I prefer my examples of not reducing vowels to schwa because they are actual examples that appear on the link at the bottom. It’s also clearer which vowels should be reduced. I’m not sure why you’ve objected to them and preferred your example, but I’m willing to listen.
I also included [ɛ] as a possible realization of English /æ/ since it is phonetically closer to [æ] and various languages with [ɛ] and [a] but not [æ] usually realize /æ/ as [ɛ].

I noticed your "rue Royale" addition - if you are interested in Paris streets, how about participating in the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Paris_Streets that's just getting started? Thanks if you can, and please sign up! It's no small task so it can use all the help it can get : )

Just to let you know, I nominated your picture of the Euro symbol for featured picture. See Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Euro. BTW, where is the "official documentation" you based it off? Thanks for uploading Image:HuntsTomb.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 11:02, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Due to your request for adminship, I went through your contributions list. :-) You appear to be the kind of editor wikipedia needs. If you don't get promoted this time, please contact me when you have around 1500 edits (so we can satisfy the silly edit-counters). I also know a number of people who enjoy writing featured articles. Perhaps you can hook up with them and have fun? :-) Drop me a line, either way! Kim Bruning 02:02, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the mean time, maybe you'd like to use irc to go to irc.freenode.net #wikipedia , and maybe talk with me there? I'd best ask you my standard questions anyway. :) Kim Bruning 17:31, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Collaboration

[edit]

Greetings,

There is a task I am working on that I hope you can help me with. At the moment, the English language version of Wikipedia does not seem to have an article on Maissemy, and I would like to change that.

Most of the documents I have found so far are written in French, and I do not understand that language Do you have any suggestions on where I might find appropriate resources for creating such an article? Any constructive information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. --Folajimi 14:48, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've translated the French Wikipedia article and added it to the English Wikipedia. I'm not sure where one would find English-language resources for a French commune with a population of only 195 people, but there are some links to French resources, which I can check out as time permits. Do you have a specific interest in this particular commune? Agateller 16:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for creating the article. The only reason I was looking to create the entry was because I got tired of seeing the red link in the encyclopaedia's entry on Pierre Fouquier. There is very little information I could find on the subject; I figured that the links should be blue at least... --Folajimi 17:02, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's as good a reason as any. I don't like red links either, and I sometimes spend a lot of time writing stub after stub just to eliminate the red links (sometimes I write a full article if I know about the subject). Agateller 01:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A while ago, I gave up on some planned contributions because I couldn't find someone to translate the documents, which were written in French. Would you be available to help out with this effort? Your rather invaluable experience would be greatly appreciated. Folajimi 02:57, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Translation can be a very time-consuming activity and I'm often short on time, but I can certainly try to help with some translations, as long as I don't have to meet any deadlines or anything. Agateller 07:55, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a firm believer in the following mantra:
"Don't visit your neighbor too often, or you will outwear your welcome!" Folajimi 10:27, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When you get a chance, could you please tell me what this article has to say about Deschamps? I know that he was a surgeon of great renown during the late 1700s, but that is about as much as I do know.

There is a brief reference to him about a third of the way into the article; I'd appreciate it if you could tell me what was said about him in the article. Folajimi 23:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA

[edit]

I am minded to change my vote, if you can explain/retract/otherwise reassure me about your 'angry young male' epithet. I am an irritated (and I am told irritating) middle-aged male, and the description is uncomfortably close to being me. I wouldn't want an admin who was prejudiced against a gender. Hope you understand, and don't mind my putting this in your talk rather on the RfA. I will paste from here and/or my own talk if I decide to change my vote as a result. Best wishes --Guinnog 22:10, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The mere fact that my epithet irritates you does indeed imply that you are in the category of persons for whom I use it as a euphemism. Angry young males take everything personally and base their opinions on the strong emotions they feel as a result, like spoiled schoolkids on a playground. That's a very poor basis for making decisions like RfA, but I won't retract the epithet, as it is simply too descriptive of reality (as your bargaining request itself demonstrates). I've spent decades working with computers and interacting in cyberspace, and angry young males are a constant and overwhelming pox on the medium. I cannot in good conscience overlook the trouble they cause. Agateller 01:42, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answer. It certainly clarifies things for me and helps me to decide my vote. Best wishes --Guinnog 06:39, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More on your RfA

[edit]

I rarely participate in RfA these days, in part because I find the attitudes of those on RfA so annoying. I've supported your candidacy, even though it seems likely to fail, because I think you're a perfect example of the sort of person who is very likely to be a good admin on Wikipedia but fails to meet the absurd requirements that those who frequent those pages have seen fit to enforce. These people seem prefer obsessive-compulsive power control freaks to rational people whose edit Wikipedia casually and dispassionately, and since you seem to fall in the latter category more than the former, your candidacy was doomed from the start. I was especially impressed by the editor who opposed your candidacy because you had the sense to walk away from a conflict. The mind boggles.

Anyway, my condolences on being run over by the drunken steamroller that is RfA. I hope that you don't take this as a personal setback and continue to participate in the project; hopefully some day in the not too distant future we'll have an admin promotion system that actually makes sense.

Regards, Kelly Martin (talk) 15:26, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Couldn't really have put it better myself. I'd just like to add that I think it's rather a shame it did fail and was delisted; two comments, that of "angry young males", and the "treehouse club" comment, I thought were hilarious, but smacked the nail right on the bonce. robchurch | talk 21:08, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics Lab

[edit]

I saw your name listed on Wikiproject Illustration or the list of graphic artists, and I thought I'd let you know that a Graphics Lab has been created on EN. Based on the highly successful French and German graphics labs, it seeks to better organise and coordinate our graphic design and photo-editing efforts. Up until now, there has been no common space on EN where users could ask for maps, charts and other SVG files to be created. What's more, the Graphics Lab has discussion boards, tips, tools and links; in sum, a good common workspace. Come help us out! The infrastucture is already in place, and now we need participants. :) --Zantastik talk 00:44, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:FritzScreenshot6.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FritzScreenshot6.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Re Incandescent lamp: Moving pages by cutting and pasting text from one to another is not permitted, because it breaks the edit history (potentially causing copyright problems for WP, since we don't have a record of who the authors are). Pages must be moved with the move button. Controversial moves or moves where the move button won't work must be discussed first on the article's talk page. Notability of MULTICOM

[edit]

A tag has been placed on MULTICOM requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please note I am only putting this notice up as a courtesy to you as it seems that you were not notified by the person actually tagging the article - and as an admin working through some tasks - I prefer for editors to be given a chance to 'save' articles.--VS talk 07:32, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Run-up

[edit]

An editor has nominated Run-up, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Run-up and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:29, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Delco Carousel, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Notability of Blacklight (band)

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Blacklight (band), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Blacklight (band) seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Blacklight (band), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Again at my talk page. Also, in the future, please provide some context for your questions. Many administrators deal with hundreds of images a week, and it's unlikely that your particular case is particularly memorable, especially five months later. Asking about "the photo of the Grande Arche that I uploaded" without providing a link, a date, a filename, or any other kind of context is going to be confusing. The article Hunt's Tomb has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability not established, no reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Double-take, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cinema (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Comment on the lockstitch png file / Ward Christensen

[edit]

First, thank you for your contributions!

However, I was trying to see how a sewing machine worked, and came across the image of the lock stitch, which I find "impossible" -- it showing the BOBBIN thread being brought ABOVE the material every other stitch. OK, it MAY be possible, but another commenter who has many years as a taylor said it was all wrong but didn't get into the details. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WardXmodem (talkcontribs) 23:45, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Human Writes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. A tag has been placed on Bateaux parisiens, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that there is a minor typo in the image of the peroxisome you made for the Peroxisome page.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Peroxisome#/media/File:Peroxisome.svg

Should be "crystalloid" instead of "cristalloid."
