WikiProject Baseball
Hey, I've noticed you have an interest in baseball. You may be interested to know we have a WikiProject on Baseball, this is a place where editors interested in baseball can help each other out and establish guidelines to improving and maintaining baseball-related articles. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia! —Borgardetalk 07:28, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, I'm sorry I have never heard of that book. I have taken a look at your article anyway and the prose seems fine. I don't have any suggestions at the moment. Nice work. —Borgardetalk 08:00, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Higher Ed Systems
A tag has been placed on Higher Ed Systems requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Mblumber (talk) 14:48, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- It had already been tagged as not have independent verifiable sources that to show that it met the WP:Notability criteria. I also thought it was essentially promotional Welcome to Higher Ed Services does not inspire confidence in its neutrality. It also makes unsupported spammy claims It designs innovative business and contractual models to realise the outcomes required. It is therefore eligible for speedy deletion. AfD is not intended for adverts or articles that do not assert notability. jimfbleak (talk) 16:45, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- You may well be right about notability , but the posted article didn't meet the criteria as above. If you want the deleted text, let me know (although I'll be off-line shortly). I'd be happy to comment on any draft if you wish (you could work on it in a sandbox if you don't want to throw it straight to the wolves). jimfbleak (talk) 16:59, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Bobô
Hi! I created the article about Bobô as Bobô (footballer born 1962) because there is already an article about another footballer named Bobô, see Bobô. As both football players are known as Bobô, it is less confusing to use their birth dates to disambiguate. See other similar examples: Alan Mahon and Alan Mahon (footballer born 1978), Ally MacLeod and Ally MacLeod (footballer born 1951), Mohamed Sylla and Mohamed Sylla (footballer born 1971) and several other examples. So, I will revert your move. Regards, --Carioca (talk) 03:35, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

First of all: do you read Italian? Otherwise it will be very hard to find sufficient information to create a more substantial article. Lampman (talk) 12:42, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe. On her personal blog she keeps a list of links to various interviews she's done; they contain a lot of information. But again: it's all in Italian.[1] Lampman (talk) 13:19, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- No, not in itself, but as I said it contains links to interviews made by various publications, and most of these are reliable sources. Lampman (talk) 13:25, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Re: List of storms in the 2001 Atlantic hurricane season
Thanks for nominating a hook, and for assessing the article! I had just copy and pasted it from 2001 Atlantic hurricane season which I am currently rewriting. I think you chose a fine hook, and eventually, I plan to rewrite that article as well, as it needs some work. Cheers, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 16:26, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

- Dear Hektor, please be WP:CIVIL. Comments link "Please refrain from reverting stuff you don't know about" is a violation of WP:CIVIL. There are reasons why I reverted this edit. The lead says "STS-134 is currently the Contingency Shuttle Crew Shuttle flight which should be launched in case of damage to Endeavour during the STS-133 mission." It appeared to be violation of Wikipedia:Recentism. So please don't make sweeping comments like "Please refrain from reverting stuff you don't know about". Have a nice day. Re: List of storms in the 2001 Atlantic hurricane season
Hmm. At first glance, I'd say it needs some more references. A good rule of thumb to remember is to add a reference at least at the end of every paragraph in the article. - This ussue has been discussed by editors involved with the television project on their talk page. It is redundant to discuss seasons 1 and 2 in the main article if all the details about them can be found in their own articles. A simple reference to them is sufficient. 67.79.157.50 (talk) 13:53, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Could you please get involved in this matter on Top Design again? You're much more effective than I am. :) 71.123.183.127 (talk) 07:45, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- According to what AdjustShift says above, "Seasons 1 & 2 have their own articles, but some info about them should be mentioned in the Top Design article" and "The article should give brief introduction to seasons 1 and 2." There is info about them in the Top Design article, and I think what's there is more than a sufficient introduction to seasons 1 and 2. It tells us the premiere date, host, judges, and winner of Season 1, and the premiere date, host, and judges of Season 2. I don't think it's necessary to list the competitors and describe the competitions of the first and second seasons if all of that is covered in their own articles. Besides, if you read the version User:71.123.183.127 insists on reinstating, you'll see most of it is repetition of what is already stated in the beginning of the article. The opening of the sub-heading Season One copies verbatim the opening of the article. The opening of the sub-heading Season Two simply rephrases it. Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia, and an encyclopedia article does not repeat its facts multiple times. 209.247.22.166 (talk) 14:54, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Please don't erase info without concensus. AdjustShift (talk) 15:02, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
What is the wisest way of handling this matter at this point? And once again, thank you for all of the advice and patience you've shown in dealing with this situation. 71.123.183.127 (talk) 07:43, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: Bikini
Welcome aboard. It's been long since someone really took an interest in the bikini article. I'm overwhelmed. The article on Louis Réard was a very nice beginning too. Of course it needs to develop beyond the stage of mostly restating the material from the bikini article, but we wouldn't have anything develop if we don't start the work, hey. We don't have enough material on the string bikini to fork out a separate article yet. But, let's keep watching out for possibilities. Aditya(talk • contribs) 04:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

- Admin? No, not yet. Maybe someday. Maybe. Awhile back, some issue came up that drew me to the WP:ANI page, and I've been hanging around it ever since, sometimes actually helping, more often commenting on some of the stupid stuff that turns up there, but mostly staying away from issues that are so far out that I haven't a clue what I would if I were an admin, and I don't envy whatever admin gets stuck with fixing it. My block log suggests I don't have the right temperament to be an admin (although I have not been blocked in 2008), and I've gotten enough users annoyed with me that it would probably be stopped in its tracks if I wanted the job. I do look with some small pride on having been given rollback rights a number of months ago, and being challenged on that by a user, so I've tried to (mostly) refrain from abusing that privilege. It's a long way from rollback rights (which is merely a keystroke saver) to having all-powerful tools. I'm not saying I would misuse them. But it's possible my sense of how things ought to be could get in the way. A good example would be the slack that's cut for vandals, especially on IP addresses. I would not hesitate to slap a 31 hour block on an IP vandal for the first offense, instead of this nonsense of having to wait until they are active or "sufficiently warned". I also think the AGF rule is often way overextended. From my first day on wikipedia, I was cautious in editing, and never posted stupid stuff like you see here often. POV stuff, sometimes, because I didn't understand the rules. That part has been an evolutionary process. But way too much slack is cut for users whose only purpose is to see what they can get away with. When something like that turns up, I don't want to be dealing with it over and over again, which is one of the frustrating things I see on WP:ANI - "Oh, let's give this outrageous editor just one more chance - maybe he'll demonstrate some good faith, even though he never has before!" But if I applied my philosophy on this, I would probably get defrocked faster than I had gotten frocked. So there ya are. OK, you can wake up now. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 14:24, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not very young, I only act like it, and that's part of the problem. :) I think of wikipedia as a hobby, of sorts. Adminship is a job, and from what I can see, often a drudgerous one. Meanwhile, after that lengthy diatribe about bringing the hammer down, here [2] I'm expressing a somewhat conciliatory attitude - although also stating what I think should be the two axioms to guide how to handle vandalism and contentious users. Maybe I should call them "The Two Commandments" handed down not by God, but by your semi-humble correspondent. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 14:41, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's thirteen and a half years old. Keep in mind that nearly everything on my user page (except possibly for the editing philosophy section) is somewhat satirical or otherwise obscure. In the cartoon Baseball Bugs, from which I get my user ID, there's a player on the Teetotallers who looks like he's from the 1880s, and he tells the audience, "I'm only ninety-three and a half years old!" The link removal was as per WP:EL, I couldn't find it in the talk page, but I left a comment as to why it was. Also wikipedia is not a memotial. It's listed on the page that says what wikipedia is/not.
In this edit there is no source stating the impact on world markets, nor does the passage mention that. it appears as WP:OR (although thats not be the case). And for the closed airpspace (not to mentions ports and border crossings) there is nothing in the source for it. Again it's in my reason given. Lihaas (talk) 22:30, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Hijackers
After some discussion with a few of the key editors in "War on Terror" biographies, it seemed to be largely agreed-upon that adding specific details such as the former occupation of each hijacker to their lead would help distinguish them - so that it wasn't just "A, also called B, came from country C and was a hijacker aboard flight D"; but that distinction could actually be made between those who worked as airport security guards themselves, or were law students, or were seemingly unemployed. Hello!
Hello! I have looked at your talk page and i want you to know if you're interested of a automatic archiving? All i do is set up a special template and let it on your talk page. What archiving does is call a bot and it takes up your talk page comments and puts it in the appropriate section. Do you want me to archive your talk page? --Mixwell!Talk 22:02, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Editing
FAs, GAs, DYKs and such. Just find a topic that interests you and start researching it. Add one fact at a time and cite it when you add it so you don't have to research everything twice. Most of my edits that are not marked copy edit include a fact and a citation. After you add enough interesting facts you will have a DYK. Add some more and you will have a GA as long as you provide the basic information for the subject at hand. FAs are a little more tricky. If you like my work, feel free to drop a Tiger on my user page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 14:03, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. You are the first person to add a duplicate Tiger. You may want to choose a different one at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tiger . Click on any of the subspecies to see more images.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 14:23, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Re: your comments at CFD
Hi AdjustShift - can I just confirm something you wrote at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_October_16#Category:Public_transport_in_Wellington - are you supporting a change to "...in Wellington Region" or to "...in the Wellington Region"? Your comment seems to support one then support the other. The two sections on Wellington schools could probably also do with checking for the same reason. Grutness...wha? 23:27, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm supporting a change to "...in the Wellington Region". AdjustShift (talk) 08:27, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Sure, sounds good to me. I don't keep up with the portal much any more, but feel free to update it. jj137 (talk) 22:36, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much...
...for your kind comments about my work on The Trial (1962 film) and Too Much Johnson. I've been on an Orson Welles kick recently -- I also created The Dreamers (unfinished film) and Don Quixote (unfinished film) and expanded The Immortal Story from its stubby beginnings. I am planning to expand other Welles-related articles that need more details and references. I greatly appreciate that you took the time to read the articles and to share your opinion with me. Be well! Ecoleetage (talk) 13:41, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

RfA
Hi AdjustShift! Thank you very much for your support in my RfA, which passed yesterday. The change of !vote was especially heartwarming, and I hope not to let you and the others down and use the tools for the benefit of the project. Peace, the charm's wound up
Hello! As per your earlier comments on my Orson Welles articles, you may want to review the rewrite I did on Welles' Macbeth. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 02:33, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Question about your DYK nom
Hey AdjustShift, I left a comment here with a concern about the referencing in your Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Egypt) DYK hook. If you could confirm that the independence from Britain date is indeed referenced, I'll be happy. ;-) Cheers, Jamie☆S93 14:41, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me – It looks fine now, and I gave the hook an AGF tick. Good luck, Jamie☆S93 14:55, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure if I was supposed to put two nominations from the same user into DYK at the same time, so someone will no doubt let me know that I screwed up. You don't have to worry, though -- thank you for your submissions. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 23:07, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
