DYK for Alpine pika

On 1 October 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Alpine pika, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the alpine pika can produce three different vocalizations: a long call during the mating season, a short call, and an alarm call when threatened? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Alpine pika. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Alpine pika), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Ethiopian hare

Hope I didn't lock you out in an edit conflict! And apologies if there was a system with names like :O or :122 or whatever that I disrupted but as per WP:REFNAME Names MUST NOT be purely numeric; they should have semantic value so that they can be more easily distinguished from each other by human editors.; I know whenever I see an entry's code I get really confused thinking "okay what's :022 and what's :122". Hopefully you don't mind. Umimmak (talk) 21:06, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Umimmak Yeah, I got an edit conflict, and then noticed three of your edits before I was saving it. I was going through my watchlist and all, while you were finishing the formatting, and then I resumed editing when I saw your green signal. I did not know about WP:REFNAME, but would make sure to properly name them in the future! Apologies for the trouble cause. Thanks a lot for telling me this awesome point, and of course I do not mind learning something new always (very happy to learn new things)! Adityavagarwal (talk) 21:15, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
I was wondering if I caused you any edit conflicts too, as there was very narrow gap for you to format and save the references. Adityavagarwal (talk) 21:15, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
I'm done with this article for today; so hopefully that means no more edit conflicts :) And yeah you did, hence having to do a couple of edit fixes to get them all in there, but it's only fair since I caused edit conflicts for you. P.S., you keep seeming to only use the google books for the Rabbits, Hares and Pikas book, but as a heads up the IUCN has the whole book available on its website (linked in the references now) -- just a heads up because I know Google Books can sometimes be frustrating with missing page previews. Umimmak (talk) 21:23, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
Umimmak Lol, it was funny (the edit conflicts)! It made me smile. :D I have used up all the information from the IUCN and other references too. Iucn is not cited everywhere, as the same/similar information is present in CAP or Mammals of Africa, etc. which are cited instead. It is complete from my side, so would you like to co nominate it for DYK/GAN? Adityavagarwal (talk) 21:27, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
I appreciate the invitation but I think this one's all yours :) Good luck! Umimmak (talk) 21:32, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
Umimmak Actually, I would be happy and honoured to joint nominate it. Nothing is mine, everything is everybody's! You have substantially added on the article too (staggering 3569 bytes), so it is only fair if we nominated it together instead of me alone. Adityavagarwal (talk) 21:41, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
Well, thanks :) If I'm going to co-nominate it, I'd like to do a bit more work on it then; I know collaboration can be tricky but hopefully this runs smoothly :) Umimmak (talk) 00:08, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Umimmak Yeah buddy! :D Let me know when you are done! Adityavagarwal (talk) 03:14, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Okay, I'll be gathering sources on and off :) But to be honest I don't know much about ecology so I'm not sure I trust myself with a ton of the content -- this genetic study I found will take me some time to fully understand. Umimmak (talk) 04:00, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Umimmak Take your time! I got your back, so no worries. Adityavagarwal (talk) 04:30, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
okay thanks :) I don't have much experience writing species articles for GAN or DYK so I'll defer to your experience. I think the taxonomy section could probably benefit from that genetics paper I posted if you could take a look at that? Umimmak (talk) 05:10, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, it looks better! I tweaked a bit. How about "...that the distribution of the Ethiopian hare is allopatric or parapatric with that of the African savanna hare?" for DYK?
I don't know enough about ecology so I defer to your judgement :) but my first instinct reading it is "well, which is it?" so I don't know if the ambiguity might be an issue. You also have more experience with DYKs Umimmak (talk) 10:16, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:39, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much, Dr. Blofeld, for the invitation! Certainly interested, and signed up. It would be a great way to further increase the article count. Adityavagarwal (talk) 12:30, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Wow, thanks a lot, Adotchar! I notice you are semi-retired on Wikipedia? I hope you become active again by the time I could ban them without reporting to ARV! ;) I hope you have a wonderful rest of the day! :D Adityavagarwal (talk) 10:27, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
Adotchar May I also know how to know the number of reports to AIV? Adityavagarwal (talk) 11:35, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
So, essentially I started at 20 something, and counted from there. For the first 20 something, I went to a third-party contributions report site, sorted the list for WP-article edits, and counted the ARV ones. With someone as active as you it may take a while. I used to be active, but am coming back. Adotchar| reply here 01:10, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Adotchar Ah, thanks a ton again. That is a great idea! Actually, I would be active more on content creation, but not on CSDs, ARV reportings, etc. so, it might be easier to count. You have a solid number of ARVs, which is really awesome. :D Adityavagarwal (talk) 06:42, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
[[User:Adityavagarwa]|Adityavagarwa], Thanks! I don't do much content creation. I'd like to get into making articles, though I don't know much about subjects and usually doubt my research. I've only made two articles. Adotchar| reply here 09:56, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Adotchar Not a problem at all! Would you like to develop an article or two to GA with me? You would be able to learn easily, that way. For about two weeks or so, I wont be doing much content creation, however, but if you are interested, we could get a few GAs after that! Adityavagarwal (talk) 09:58, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
I've never made or helped make an article into a GA. My best is start-class. If you're working on an article that I could help with, please notify me. I'd love to help out, and make a GA! Adotchar| reply here 10:06, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, surely. The next GA, I would nominate with you. For the next two weeks, however, I would not be doing anything on any new article, but after that, not only one, but more articles could be going to GA together. Would surely inform you on the next few GAs (would be mostly on extinct species, but any other article if you like)! :D

Hey, I am a new editor on wikipedia. I already have submitted 2 drafts of general use. This time, i am also writing about on page optimization, if you may see my draft. In meantime i am learning how to use externel reliable sources and for that i used my clinic from where i am taking treatment and what resources for reliabilty i saw i used them. It's ok if you delete my draft article but why have you deleted my user page. It's not ustified. Plese revert your commited action. i want to complete my draft and be continued with wikipedia. Meenakshi Rana (talk) 08:27, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Meenakshi Rana, according to the deletion notice, it seems like you had added too much of self-information that should not be present on your userpage. This is because wikipedia is not a web host, to have such sorts of information. Little information about you on your userpage is really cool, but a lot about you makes your page look like a resume! I am unable to see the deleted page, so it would be great if an admin could look at it and say where and which parts exactly cause the problem! Have a great rest of the day, and ask me if you have any more questions/need help. Cheers. Adityavagarwal (talk) 14:18, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
