Bot flag
Hello,
I hope to fix the bot when I have time so would prefer the bot flag to remain to save my administrative overhead. If I have to reapply for a flag it will become still more difficult to find time to repair the bot!
Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 06:51, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message and your wish to keep the flag has been noted :). I feel I may have to start re thinking the way I go about cleaning up some of these bot flags as currently I am finding it very hard to follow which users are responding regarding which bots! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 09:25, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
RfA question
Thanks for the clarification. Though I think it would be perfectly fine to take part in a crat discussion because the purpose of that discussion is to evaluate the validity of various arguments. For the record, I agree with your opinion on the argument itself :) --regentspark (comment) 14:06, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
- I think in the case of the Jason Quinn RFA I would not have taken part even in a crat discussion. I remember the RFA well, it was just after failings of the RFA process had been pointed out to me, I saw this user who just seemed to have everyone jumping on them because they were being honest. RfA/RfB nominee silencing
I've noticed an unfortunate and ongoing trend in which there is a significant and noticeable element of silencing discussion and nominees in RfA discussions. In various discussions, it appears that you have simply responded in good faith to speak your mind. Some of the contributors at your RfB have immediately stated that you have "badgered" people. Of course, this is not the case whatsoever. In the "real world" it is functional and righteous to address matters and to point out observances that one finds significant, particularly in work environments. While Wikipedia is part of the real world, it sometimes doesn't function as such. It appears that some contributors to RfA (and related) discussions have made a routine of immediately dismissing rational discourse as "badgering", a one-word explanation to oppose, in response to a person simply speaking (via typing) in a discussion. Intelligent discussion is certainly not pestering people. Good faith efforts to state or address concerns should never be dismissed using a one-letter word. How absurd. I encourage you to avoid caving-in and self-censoring because of some editors misinterpreting discussion as "badgering," which has unfortunately become part of the status quo at RfA (et al.) discussions.
At my (first and only) RfA, which I went into cold with absolutely no preparation whatsoever, I also received some opposition because I spoke there. Rather than retreating and silencing myself in hopes to improve my chances, I instead just spoke freely when I felt that it would help to clarify matters. Freedom of speech is an important tenant in human rights; it's strange that people who contribute to an encyclopedia appear to contradict this so vehemently, eagerly discouraging nominees from speaking. In fact, it's just wrong. Northamerica1000(talk) 08:52, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message! I still fail to see how my edits have been 'badgering', I was even more surprised that people had said I had been commenting in the same way at other RFA, so much so that I went back and checked every RFA that I have ever participated in (finding nothing). Your comments are definitely appreciated! ·addshore· talk to me! 11:22, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Sure thing. Yeah, it's definitely peculiar to be told that elements of a discussion (note that RfA's/RfB's have an actual section titled "Discussion") cannot actually be discussed. Wikipedia is the only online community where I've ever seen this. Northamerica1000(talk) 19:58, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Interwiki link requests
Hi there. Is there a page/form for submitting requests for Addbot to update/remove certain interwiki links that are still on a Wikipedia? Namely, now that the English page Gloriosa superba has been created, it is incorrect for its equivalents in other languages to manually link back to en:Gloriosa_(genus) (see e.g. [2]). Best, It Is Me Here t / c 20:00, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- Not yet! This should get picked up next time the bot gets a list from a database dump! I might try and create such a page where people can submit articles or lists to the bot to check! ·addshore· talk to me! 11:46, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
Addbot
Addbot removes the 'Orphan' tag from Edgel on the grounds that it is linked to from Edgell.
However the latter is not an article page but is a disambiguation page and my understanding is that this doesn't stop Edgel from being an orphan. If you agree could you prevent Addbot from de-orphaning items that are only linked to from disambig pages?
Keep up the good work! Best wishes S a g a C i t y (talk) 11:44, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

merge tag does not negate orphan tag
Hi, I just added a merge tag to Tactics of terrorism suggesting that Typology of unconventional terrorism tactics should be merged into the former. Addbot automatically removed the "orphan" tag from Typology of unconventional terrorism tactics which probably shouldn't happen. It's not a big deal, but if it's possible to filter for this, it might be a good idea. - TheMightyQuill (talk) 19:13, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I saw your rename of User:WilliamTaylorSimpson to User:IntlWriters, and I'm concerned. First, the stated reason for the username change isn't true. Any 'issues' the user has been experiencing are as a result of massive WP:IDHT and have nothing at all to do with their username. Second, I'm concerned about the new username itself, which seems corporate/organizational on its own, and doubly so when you look at some of the references and wording he uses. — The Potato Hose 16:55, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi @The Potato Hose: ! Issues referred to with the previous name are not necessarily on wiki, naturally use of a real name can cause various privacy concerns / issues. The editor does indeed claim to be an author although I see no specific breach of WP:U. The account, as seen by the previous name, represents a single editor rather than a group or organisation (after a speedy google search and flip through contributions I found nothing specific linking to 'IntlWriter'. If you feel there is is a group or organisation that I have missed could you let me know and I will follow it appropriately. ·addshore· talk to me! 17:17, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

You renamed WilliamTaylorSimpson (talk · contribs) to IntlWriters (talk · contribs). I think the new name violates our policy against corporate user names. Or am I being too fussy? Please reply by endorsing or contradicting my request at User talk:IntlWriters#Username. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:28, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- First, thank you for 'renaming' as requested. After the rename was approved, etc. RHaworth has deleted my user page and deleted the rename. I continue to fail to see why RHaworth has done these actions. He has previously proposed my writing for a deletion discussion, renamed my article twice prior to that, and now has deleted this page after it was renamed today. Can you please revert his actions. How can he override your actions? Can you please put the user page back as it was before RHaworth's deletion? RHaworth's action seems to continue to be against Wikipedia policies for how a rename is completed. I trust that RHaworth's actions will be "contracted" and perhaps RHaworth asked to cease these continued actions. The user page for IntlWriters was deleted by RHaworth. - Your userpage was deleted because it's a straight-up copy of an article. That's not allowed. In some situations, it's possible to have a deleted article returned into your userspace, but that doesn't seem likely here.

- Well if you look back at the conversations you will see.
I am a fan of musical theatre here in the uk and i wanted to add an article about someone i saw in a show and yintan was extremely derogatory in his reasons for submitting a deletion request. I feel he was threatening me saying i would be blocked. He also states "now that was a dumb thing to do" I took this as a direct threat as he implied a consequence. I then tried to be the mature one and reason with him stating that perhaps i did need some help with my contributions but he was not forthcoming with help at all. I then deleted everything and told him this should be the end of the matter but he keeps reinstating it to his profile. I feel extremely unwelcomed by him and as an 'admin' he should be supporting people not looking for fault and being aggressive. I would appreciate any assistance you could provide me with in deleting all matters to do with my article and i would also like to delete my accout GossipQueenNoughties. Many Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GossipQueenNoughties (talk • contribs)
- Seeing as this is now here I will reply here. Firstly I will point out that User:Yintan is not an administrator, they have the rollback flag so that they can revert vandalism. Most of the messages that Yintan has posted to your talk page come from templates and they are all worded in a non threatening way simply saying 'could get you blocked' or 'you may get blocked'. "now that was a dumb thing to do" is perhaps a bad summary of the edit but it is generally bad to remove things from other peoples talk pages, especially if they have already been read and responded to.
- Finally accounts with edits on the project can not be deleted as they have edits attached to them. Please see Wikipedia:U#Deleting_and_merging_accounts.

- As far as being agressive goes, the only one who threw insults around is GossipQueenNoughties herself: "You obviously have no life. Anyway, to show I honestly never meant to threaten or attack (and I don't think I have), I'll blank the discussion on my Talk as a courtesy. Yintan 14:46, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Well i do not feel i have been treated fairly or kindly by yintan or his cronies that ganged up on me. Looking foward to getting into touch with those who have written or edited the entry about Osvald Siren
I am a PhD student in China doing a dissertation on Chinese Art connoisseurship collecting. I am interested in Osvald Siren's stay in Peking in the early 1920s. I guess he might have visited the most prominent collector of Chinese art in early Republican-era Peking, Ching Hsien( also known as King Pu-sun or Ching Pu-sun). But unfortunately I have no access to Osvald Siren papers or his works. I think if the name Ching Hsien(Ching Pu-sun or King Pu-sun) appeared in indexes to Osvald Siren's works, it might suggest that Osvald Siren might have visited Ching Hsien. Alexgriz username change
Yes, I am aware of what might happen- I hope my edits are non-controversial enough that I will not run into trouble, and I can use an anonymous post if necessary. I have to admit, though, I am making the request with the idea that if it gets bad, I will revert to a more cryptic username, possibly my old one. If that is the wrong attitude, then don't make the change, but I feel like I would like to try using my real name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexgriz (talk • contribs) 19:08, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
You are invited to the Bristol Wiki Meetup which will take place at The Commercial Rooms, 43-45 Corn Street, Bristol BS1 1HT on Sunday 28 July 2013 from 1.00 pm. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Bristol topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you. Regarding Simpsons episode: KABF21
You edited the article of the episode "The Burns and the Bees" a few months ago, so I thought you'd be good to ask. A bit of a dilemma on a scene.
In the episode, at part of the bees forming a beard on Lisa, one part had me worried. Before that, the queen be stung her cheek and then she had hold the stinger in place in order to give off-- er.. "phere-mones" to attract the rest, but Lisa still looked unharmed and it confused me. I understand that a queen bee has a barbless stinger which can be used several times and that seems to indicate me that her sting can be stronger. If a queen bee stings can it be seriously toxic and/or do any paralysis of any kind? Is the queen be dangerous when made contact with, that is when it is healthy? I've never been stung myself, but I understand that an allergy to bee stings runs somewhere in my family, I worry about how dangerous it can be. Anyway, why was nothing else said about Lisa getting stung, nor was any mark left? The regular show shows mainly natural content now and then while in canon running. It may not matter and I may just be getting touchy, but I just can't stand by. Please reply soon. -- User:CastellanetaFan —Preceding undated comment added 02:49, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

cant tell if up for review
So i wrote an article. It said it was a draft and not pending review
So i clicked where it say submit for review, but on that page the actual info itself still has a box saying not submitted for review
but below at the end of the page says in yellow it is submitted for review...i am so confused on how to tell i its up for review or not — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnotherStreamFan (talk • contribs) 12:14, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there! Please see in the box at the top of the article that says If this submission is ready to be reviewed, click here.. :) Click the link and follow the instructions and this will submit it for review :) ! ·addshore· talk to me! 12:17, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
So i thought i did that, but when i visit my contributions page and look at the article it has a grey box in the middle saying its just a draft, and at the bottom of the page a yellow box that says it is submitted for review....which one is correct — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnotherStreamFan (talk • contribs) 12:21, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Ahh sorry, as said once you visit the link
- This will add a notice to the bottom of the page and won't blank it! The new template which says that your draft is waiting for a review will appear at the bottom; simply ignore the old (grey) drafted templates and the old (red) decline templates. A bot will update your article submission. Until then, please don't change anything in this text box. Just press "Save page".
- If you look at the bottom of the page you will see the new box that has been added, your article has been submitted for a review :) ·addshore· talk to me! 12:24, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Why did you move the Tanzania articles?
Given that the Tanzanian government entitles its ministries "Co-operative" and "Co-operation", on what basis did you move these articles? Cheers. AfricaTanz (talk) 21:40, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there! My moves of 3 articles today were to clear up another editors 'copy and paste' move. My move was made to retain the history of the article in its new location. I have no opinion on the move itself. If you wish to discuss it you should raise the issue on the talk page of the article. ·addshore· talk to me! 21:56, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- You did not move, for example, Talk:Ministry of East African Co-operation (Tanzania) to Talk:Ministry of East African Cooperation (Tanzania), as my watchlist says you did? Maybe you can explain further what you mean. Cheers. AfricaTanz (talk) 22:06, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- By the way, I do not need talkback templates. Thanks. AfricaTanz (talk) 22:06, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- User:Sundostund is the user that actually performed the cut and paste move (although the creation of the move is not visible as it has been deleted) the action can be seen by the creation of the redirect such as here. This left the history of the page at [Talk:Ministry of East African Cooperation (Tanzania)]] while the article content itself was at Talk:Ministry of East African Cooperation (Tanzania). My action deleted the copy and paste move and correctly move the history of the article to the new location. I also carried out this fix on the following pages and their talk pages:
- As said above the initial move was not me, I was simply fixing the move. The copy and paste move was made by User:Sundostund and I suggest you bring up the move on their talk page or on the article talk pages. ·addshore· talk to me! 22:12, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I already have. AfricaTanz (talk) 22:18, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- No problem! And sorry, I am aware such fixes of page moves do indeed confuse :) (feel free to revert the move if there is consensus to do so without contacting me) :) ·addshore· talk to me! 22:20, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Several account names
Hi, addshore, you changed a user name above. I got to that name change because I was looking at T.A.V, which has been tagged for speedy deletion. That led me to this subpage of User:T.A.V Tunes (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Putting aside the merits of the A7 tag, although User:T.A.V Tunes hasn't edited since September 2012, I'm assuming he is the same person as RohanBose, who didn't disclose this connection when requesting a user name change.
This is twice this week that I have gotten caught in the thicket of user name changes, which before this, I never had anything to do with (and as a non-crat have no authority anyway).
Is there any reason for concern here?
Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:23, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- They could indeed be the same person. On the other hand there is no way to really say for sure. RohanBose (initially Amgmedia) could have a link to T.A.V_Tunes but this could be two individuals interested or involved in the same area TAV. The link as far as I can tell is that RohanBose (initially Amgmedia) probably made the TAV website.
- I wouldn't bother being concerned over this! :). What was the other username change you got caught up in this week? ·addshore· talk to me! 09:35, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Name change
Salutations Addshore! I was just hoping you could give me an idea what goes on behind the scenes in name changes? At Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple, I see every few hours admins. doing what they do, yet I always get passed up, w/out comments...I'm not complaining, nor asking for special favors, I'd just like to know what/if any issues are preventing my name change. Thank you! EzPz (talk) 22:21, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there! I am still thinking about your particular request, also wondering if any other crats have any opinions. My problem is that the name change would indeed leave you username to be very very similar with another account which could confuse people. I think it would be better if you could think of a different username that isn't as similar to the other that you previously tried to USURP to! Let me know what you think! ·addshore· talk to me! 10:40, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- I can appreciate your concerns about the similarity between the names, as they are nearly identical. Atleast from my point of view, I see him as not likely to return after being gone for four years and leaving a post suggesting he was thinking about leaving Wikipedia. I personally don't mind dealing with any potential confusion from other users, if that is an issue. I realize admins might have another level of concern that I am not aware of. All that in mind, given the choice, I do still want to have my name changed to AstroChemist. Thank you for keeping me updated, EzPz (talk) 10:53, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- After consulting another crat the rename has been done! I have also tidied up the other similar users pages adding links to your new user and talk pages to try and avoid any confusion that might occur! ·addshore· talk to me! 22:59, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

BOT for COI Request Edit
Hi Addshore. About two months ago there was a successful bot request to test Template:COI editnotice on the Talk page of articles about extant organizations. I was circling back to see if the template had produced more Request Edits on those articles and realized there were only 40 articles in the category I suggested we test it in!
Naturally, we need a sample size closer to 1,000, seeing as 5 Request Edits per month on 1,000 articles (16% per of them per year) would be a reasonable success.
Is it possible for us to expand the trial implementation to a larger category?. CorporateM (Talk) 14:02, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- Where was the initial bot request and trial? :) ·addshore· talk to me! 22:58, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- Good question. It took some digging, but I found it. CorporateM (Talk) 19:57, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- As that task does indeed only approve the category mentioned in the request it might be a good idea to file a more open ended task request if you want to expand it! ·addshore· talk to me! 16:12, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Posted here. I noticed the original bot request said it would effect 1,000+ articles, so now I'm unsure if we needed a larger category or if the bot was never run on the entire category, since he was still doing some trouble-shooting. CorporateM (Talk) 14:13, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

However, Matty007 was registered in 2007, see here. As someone on the IRC said, please could you "rename it and let you [me] have the username"? Thanks, Matty.007 11:23, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

The Dan Crary article,
That article is not an autobiography or the work of anyones self interest. It is the Biography of a renowned musician. Yes it needs work but it does not require anything other than assistance. This assistance has been requested on the articles Talk Page. I removed the tags your bot placed on the article and am looking around for a tag that says something such this article needs help. Question on changing account name
Hi Addshore, One of the admins said they don't like my account name. Now that I have a little experience with Wikipedia, I get that this account name sounds sort of sanctimonious in debates. WP:Account says "User accounts with few or no edits might not be renamed, as it is quicker and easier to simply create a new account." How do I determine if I have few enough edits to create a new account? If I create a new account, is there anything I need to do (besides never accessing the old account) to avoid any appearance of sockpuppeting? Thanks for any info -Truthwillneverdie (talk) 20:50, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Misuse of {{Unreferenced}} by Legobot?
Hi. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kari_Innerå

There are tens of references to articles for this profile, why was the {{unreferenced}}- tag put in?
- The bot didn't add the template ! It only added a date to the template. The not (and many others like it) do this whenever they find such a tag without a date. These bots generally do not check to see if the tag is still needed, so, that is the reason if is still there. If there are indeed references on the article then feel free to remove the tag! - Thanks for restoring it; I've added it back into the article. Addbot moved 5 interwiki links from Political abuse of psychiatry in the Soviet Union to Wikidata on d:q4204204 and left 3 interwiki links in the article. I don’t know why the 3 interwiki links are left. It seems to me they should be moved as well. --Psychiatrick (talk) 23:44, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

I vote to have Fut.Perf.☼ Administrator status removed!
I am sorry if I am bothering you. This is not a personal attack on this guy, but when I was discussing a proposal that I made on both the Roman and Byzantine Empire talk pages, user and administrator [[User talk:Future Perfect at Sunrise|☼] came off extremely rudely on both, closed the discussions on the Byzantine Empire talk page and went as far as threatening to block me from editing if I were to discuss it further. That was completely uncalled for! I brought this up on my talk page and even though this user who has almost as many rights as [[User talk:Future Perfect at Sunrise|☼] does opposed the proposal, he did agree that what the administrator did was abrupt and rude and did not know why he did such. I went on to [[User talk:Future Perfect at Sunrise|☼] calling him out on it and asked for an apology and he has yet to give me one. I have not been a user on Wikipedia for that long at all. In fact, I have only been a user on Wikipedia for 3 weeks. I have never encountered someone who has come off so rudely or has been rude or mean like that period. Many people have also complained to him about how he flags other users contents. With all of this being said, it is safe to assume that he has been abusing his administrator rights and deserves to be stripped of his administrator status. Keeby101 (talk) 22:41, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Keeby101. I have removed the archive from one of the sections you have linked to as it should probably be allowed to continue and pointed the other to the same discussion on a separate talk page. I have also dropped a note in at User_talk:Future_Perfect_at_Sunrise#Talk:Byzantine_Empire_and_Talk:Roman_Empire.
- Now although you are allowed to open discussions on talk pages and generally discuss anything you think potentially should be changed it does look like you have been doing this rather a lot recently (which can be seen at Special:Contributions/Keeby101). Talking is great on a collaborative project and I can see that you have a lot of energy but it is probably best to see how the first one or two discussions and ideas pan out before you try to roll a change out across the whole of wikipedia! :) If you continue some users may see your cross talk page messages as spam and you could indeed get blocked for disruption.
- Just try and slow it down a bit! :), Personally I don't think Future Perfect at Sunrise has abused their administrator rights in any way (especially as they haven't actually used them) so I won't be looking into that any further! If you have any further questions feel free to ask here! ·addshore· talk to me! 23:13, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
One last favor. :)
I sincerely hope I am not wasting your time with this topic. I will try my hardest to explain this. This is a current edit war that has been going on for a while. I am not sure if I should have gone to a Bureaucrat about this a long time ago or not, but I probably should have as it has gone on for too long and keeps getting rehashed. If you see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sasanian_Empire it has been going on for four years. When I was a brand new user on Wikipedia, my first edit was on the Sasanian Empire article and I went on to the talk page of the article to discuss it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sasanian_Empire#The_map_of_the_Sassanid_Empire and it kinda got out of hand. One of the users named Constantine ✍ came off strong and I fired back (didn't know guidelines at the time) and then I made new maps, but another user came in and complained about the color so I made another map and then that Constantine ✍ came off strong again and then I made another map and had multiple sources to back it up. It eventually came to the point where I put in a dispute resolution request and asked for as many administrators as possible to either come on to the talk page and decide which map would be the infobox image or take a vote on on having a brand new map being made by one of the Administrators or from somewhere on the internet , but it didn't work as the request was closed as unresolved and only one who commented on the discussion was Constantine ✍ who is the main user that I have been edit warring with. User Kathovo has agreed and disagreed on some of my maps. In fact Kathovo has been rather neutral on the matter. Then an administrator named Stephan Schulz came onto the talk page and originally he did not aknowledge most of the sources that I cited so he went on to my talk page and said and I quote
"Hi Keeby101. I've tried to look at the list of sources you provided, and it is indeed not always easy to figure out what you re referring to. While there are many different academic styles to citing, the core idea is always the same: Identify the source in a way that makes it possible (and convenient) for the reader to find your source. Thus, for a book you typically provide title, author, publisher, and year of publication. When you only use a small part of the book, a page number is appropriate. Some books are really collections of individual essays. The Sassanian Era is an example. You can usually identify these because the book has an editor, not an author. In that case, you usually cite not the book, but the individual essay (say Nicholas Sims-Williams (2008). "The Sassanians in the East". In Vesta Sarkhosh Curtis, Sarah Steward. The Sasanian Era. I.B. Tauris & Co. Ltd. pp. 88–102. Retrieved 10 August 2013.). You don't need to use the templates, but do provide the information. Sims-Williams has his own bibliography online here - you can see how the author himself list his publications. Good luck!"
Back on the Sasanian Empire talk page I was confronted by a user named Laszlo Panflex who had been involved in the edit war for quite a long time and I told him that I am indeed very busy in real life and as a result I do not have enough time to those very same books that I read long ago and even if I did, I do not exactly keep track of the page numbers and then I told him that I have a hard time citing the pages and if I was able to do so I would cite them and quote from them and most certainly win the edit war. I asked him to help me try to cite the pages and then he ended up saying
"You are asking me -- no, "everyone" -- to teach you how to do research and cite sources. I'm sorry, but I don't have time to be your tutor, and I have research of my own to conduct in the limited time I do have. You say you are busy but disregard that we are, too. You do not have to link to everything you cite, but providing page numbers is essential. Simply saying, I read it a long time ago does not help someone who wants to look up the source. (Ultimately, WP is a research source to lead others to more comprehensive sources; if you do not cite with precision, it does not help people find information they are seeking.) If the book is online, provide a link. How? Look at how Constantine cites his sources and follow that. Go to tutorial pages (as I have directed you to before) and figure it (like we have had to do). Ask at the help desk where people volunteer to help. How to do research? Google research methodology and read up on the subject. Take some courses -- I've spent years learning to do thorough and precise research. Want an example of how to cite a statement, here you go: "Avoid excessive emphasis: CAPITAL LETTERS are considered shouting and are virtually never appropriate. Bolding may be used to highlight key words or phrases (most usually to highlight "oppose" or "support" summaries of an editor's view), but should be used judiciously, as it may appear the equivalent of the writer raising his voice. WP:SHOUT." I've repeatedly encouraged you to review etiquette guidelines and other wiki-policies (including the page I quote here), but you continue to lose your temper and disregard them. Getting in constant edit wars with people should tell you that you are approaching this improperly. I tried to explain that a couple of weeks ago, but it is simply taking up all my wiki-time and is apparently not helping.
I replied back saying "Alright, understood and actually your explanations to me are helping a little. On the bolding and shouting part, I aknowledged all of what you said and stated on my talk page that I will no longer do that. I will not bold or use caps anymore, repeat, will not do that anymore. Now I have not disregarded the pages you have directed me to. At least not all of them, I disregarded the tutorial pages for reasons I have no idea why and I regret it. Truly I do not mean to bold or use all caps. I indeed have a short temper and I will fix that. Now I will go to those tutorial pages when I have spare time and when I figure it out (which will take a while) I will cite the pages as you all have asked Ok. Peace ☮"
No one has responded since then, but I know that someone will and when that happens tensions are going to heat up again. I put up this map: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_Sasanian_Persian_Empire_ca._620_A.D.jpg in the mean time which is from what I have read in books that I have rented from my local libraries (which were the books that I cited on the talk page) and Encyclopedia Iranica accurate. The reason why I am bringing this up is because I do not know what to do about this situation anymore. A consensus has not been reached and probably never will by the looks of the way this edit war is going and the dispute resolution didn't work either and no matter how many administrators I try to get involved to try to end this it won't end, instead it either is briefly calm or it ends up escalating. I truly do not know what to do about this anymore. So I have decided to turn to you and see if you can possibly bring this thing to an end and possibly prevent an edit war like this on that talk page from being rehashed like it has been for the past 4 years (well before I was even a user here). I just wanted to see if you could do one last favor. :) Keeby101 (talk) 01:32, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
P.S. I hope that this is not considered Canvasing. To be brutally hontest I didn't know what Canvasing was until an hour ago when administrator Sowlos mentioned it to me. Still I hope you can do this one last request of mine, I am not saying for you to take my side, I just thought that you will take a neutral course of action and end the edit war on the talk page via neutral point of view. Peace ☮ Keeby101 (talk) 20:33, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- There is basically nothing I can do :) I have no 'power' over consensus. If there is no consensus nothing should be done. ·addshore· talk to me! 15:39, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Addbot removing orphan template from orphaned page
Hello. I recently added {{orphan}} to the article Will McCants, which was reverted by User:Addbot on the grounds that it's linked from McCants. However, McCants is a disambiguation page, and WP:ORPHAN#Criteria clearly states that links from disambiguation pages don't count. (Perhaps the bot couldn't tell that McCants is a dab page as it doesn't have 'disambiguation' in the title?) Anyway, that aside Will McCants has no incoming links, so the orphan template should be restored. Robofish (talk) 18:05, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed the bot should not count disambig pages! The task is currently not running and is pending a rewrite so I will make sure this case is taken into account when and if the task comes back up! ·addshore· talk to me! 15:33, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
