Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations opening soon
Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are opening in a few hours (00:01 UTC on 1 September). A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:50, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you!
Hello Adamdaley, I just wanted to say thank you for assessing and marking the politician priority the talk page of Abdisaid Muse Ali as low, I'm not sure how I missed doing that when originally adding in the WikiProject information! Nothing more I wanted to say, just thank you because I really appreciate it 🙂 Johnson524 (Talk!) 02:37, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- Johnson524 - It's not a problem. Adamdaley (talk) 05:01, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

Correction to previous election announcement
Just a quick correction to the prior message about the 2022 MILHIST coordinator election! I (Hog Farm) didn't proofread the message well enough and left out a link to the election page itself in this message. The voting will occur here; sorry about the need for a second message and the inadvertent omission from the prior one. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:40, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks WP:MILHIST
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: - Thanks for letting me do what while I was there. Even though I admit I didn't like everyone at WP:MILNIST, I learnt to live with that. As you are aware a ban has been put into place and with things in reality like homelessness in 18 or so days with a houseful of contents, I'm not sure what I'll do with everything, I'll definitely keep some things like my PS2/PS3/PS4 and tv with my desktop computer and a lifetime of photos. I'm sorry that not only do I need to leave a final comment for you guys before anything unannounced pops up that I won't be able to reply. I know some of you were there when I needed guidance. I just hope you like LjLeppan as a contributor for the WikiProject. I wish things were differently unfortunately I must leave with tears in my eyes while writing this. Once again if I don't reply, thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last 12 years. Mahal Kita - if you know Visayan. Adamdaley (talk) 08:04, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- I guess you'll have to find a dedicated editor to go through the 24,868+ backlog of articles in WP:MILHIST unfortunately I'd do it without any complaints. Once again, I wish things were under different circumstances. Just so many ignorant people out there like Ljleppan. Obviously doesn't give a sh!t about other people! Anyway, that's my opinion. Once again thanks for letting me feel part of the WP:MILHIST family for so long! If you don't ever hear from me, I'll keep an eye on the backlog when I can get a chance to see the progress. Adamdaley (talk) 09:13, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- Adam, a lot of people are trying to help, but the snark and the attacks in the two comments about Ljleppan really need to be left behind, and preferably struck out, because they are a good faith editor with only the encyclopedia's best interests at heart. Even if you don't agree, trust me that this sort of language doesn't help you now, whatever your opinion of them. Mathglot (talk) 09:19, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Yeesh! Just saw this now. I have to agree with Mathglot here, Adam you need to strike those comments about Ljleppan, like immediately. This is part of "putting things behind you and just moving forward". Regardless of how you feel them, or anyone, you can't post personal attacks like that. That is a policy that applies to everyone, at all times, but especially to you, right now, becuase you are on very thin ice. It would be a shame if all the efforts of the people trying to help you were wasted and you permanently lost your access to WP, all because of such a pointless comment. You have commented many times about your fear of losing talk page access... something like this can do that. You really, really need to just wrap up your discussion with Valereee about your unbkock request. That is the only thing you're really allowed to use your talk page for anyway. All these other comments, basically anything that isn't about you talking to Valereee about your unblock, are really not allowed right now, and may serve to be your ultimate undoing. While your blocked, this unfortunately applies to the extended comments about your personal life as well. If it helps to share, pick an editor, (or editors), that you trust and ask if you can contact them off-wiki. I've already advised that you can email me, but it doesn't have to be me. It would be better if you can contacted someone off-wiki to discuss personal matters, vent about your block situation, your past edits, or anything else, while you're blocked. In the meantime, you really should strike those comments, and an apology wouldn't hurt either. Hang in there man, you are so close to getting back in. - wolf 16:18, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm remorseful. Yes I'm sorry for saying that. I'm remorseful for what's done. What more can I do? Nothing and just wait. As I keep saying I am not sure if I'll be around after the next in three weeks time for Wikipedia. Can't people sense that? Adamdaley (talk) 19:04, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- What can you do, you ask? You can try listening to the people that are trying to help you. And if nothing any of us has said has impressed upon you the peril you are in, then carefully read the last comment posted by Cullen. You say you want back in, and you have a chance, but you are blowing it, my friend.
- One more bit of advice: do not post any more comments here, about anything. You basically take one step forward and two steps backward each time. Just wait and see if Valereee is still willing to unblock you. If so, then follow her lead. If she asks you a question, answer it, and it only, promptly and directly. If she gives you directions, follow them. Be polite and, don't argue, about anything, and don't continue to go into lenthy details about your personal life. It's not that anyone doesn't care, (people here do, I know I do), it's just that we can't do anything about it and it doesn't really have any bearing on whether you should be unblocked or not. As I said, if you need someone to talk to, feel free to contact me.
- Just get yourself unblocked, then find a new corner to quietly edit in where no one will bother you, and then at least if you have other problems, you can always edit. Just like you have for the last 16 years. - wolf 20:19, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'll be here for the next two hours till I need to go out in the big world. Adamdaley (talk) 21:22, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'd love to come back, Wolf. If I get an unblock, if someone suggests something and I'll look into it. If I can do it, great! Till then, I dread the negative outcome is more possible than a positive outcome (in sense of an unblock and a new interest). As I said above, I'll be here for another 90 minutes or so and I'll need to go out into the big world to do a few things. I shouldn't be too long and I can reply if there are any messages left during that period. Adamdaley (talk) 21:56, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Congrats, you're back. As for suggestions, Mathglot made a good one about bare urls, it is certainly worth checking out. Good luck Adam. - wolf 23:36, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- I didn't know I was unblocked until I saw on my Watchlist, that Valereee had made changes to it. I've looked at what Mathglot, that format appears to me as being difficult to update to the format that it is asking as an acceptable wikipedia policies. " - sorry, can you clarify that? - wolf 00:15, 23 September 2022 (UTC)- Changing the link from being invalid to a valid reference appears to be very difficult. Adamdaley (talk) 00:47, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
- Split off "bareurl" how-to into its own discussion for you. See below. Mathglot (talk) 19:46, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

How to find and fix BAREURLs
There are several ways to do it. Remember up above I mentioned that first you find it, then you fix it. I gave you one method to find it using the Category; another way is using this advanced search. You can click any article in that list, and it has the bareurls you see there.
There are also several repair methods. The most straightforward, is to copy the url to another browser tab and go to that link. Find the author, title, and date (at a minimum) and if you can, any other information like publisher, location, editor, additional authors, isbn number (if it's a book), and so on. Copy that information into one of the following "citation" templates:
{{cite web |author= |date= |title= |url= |website= |publisher= |access-date={{subst:TODAY}}}}
{{cite book |author1= |author2= |date= |title= |page= |url= |publisher= |location= |isbn= }}
{{cite journal |journal= |author1= |author2= |date= |title= |url= |publisher= |volume= |issue= |pages= |doi= }}
Then you copy the citation and insert it between the <ref> ... </ref> tags in the article where the bare url was. Easy peasy.
Example:
- Go to advanced search, and find the first article (or any article) on the list and click it. I see September 11 attacks, so let's do that one.
- Find the bare url in the References section; there are several of them, starting with #327. The bareurl starts 'https://www1.nyc.gov...'; right-click to open it in a new tab; it's a New York Police Department webpage.
- Note: If that url is a dead url, you can either skip it and go on to the next bareurl in that article (if any) or skip to the next article, or you can look up the dead url in the Internet Archive, and carry on from there, using the information from the archived page.
- Come back to the article and click the "up" link on #327. That jumps up into the article and takes you to the superscript '327' after the words, "...breathing equipment that could have prevented future diseases.[327]" in the article.
- Find what section it's in: scrolling up a little, you can see it's in section "§ Health issues". Click the [edit section] link to edit the section containing the bare url.
- Since that url is a website (not a book, or a journal), we'll use the
{{cite web}}
template from above. Copy information from the web page into the citation, wherever you can find it (the '2022' date was all the way at the bottom, so you might have to look around), to generate this:{{cite web |author= |date=2022 |title=9/11 Tribute |url=https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/about/memorials/9-11-tribute.page |website=New York City Police Department |publisher= |access-date={{subst:TODAY}}}}
- Now copy that citation back into the article on top of the bare url, between the <ref> ... </ref> tags.
- Hit the 'Preview' button to make sure you did it right, then 'Publish'.
That's all there is to it! There are other ways, which end up being faster if you don't mind learning a tool like ReFill, but this way will always work, and is a good way to start even if you switch to a faster method later, so that you understand what is going on under the hood. Hope this helps, Mathglot (talk) 09:05, 24 September 2022 (UTC) moved to own section by Mathglot (talk) 19:46, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

Infobox Needed
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
I am trying to find articles that need infobox's. Where can I find them? Adamdaley (talk) 00:50, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- At Category:Wikipedia articles with an infobox request. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 01:28, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- No article needs an infobox. They are entirely optional. You may be able to use a query with a tool like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:PetScan Templates&Links "Has none of these templates" to get something approaching what you asked for.
- And please don't be an editor that puts up infoboxes where the data included in the infobox is nowhere to be found in the text of the article. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:30, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
WikiProject Banners
Valereee - There are a few articles that I could improve the accuracy of WP:MILHIST. Unfortunately, they won't get updated ever. I am just letting you know, that I've found some that are needing some love. Adamdaley (talk) 14:25, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- When a talk page has few watchers, creating WP:edit requests increases the likelihood a comment will be handled. Getting an appropriate but missing banner on the talk is probably always worth an edit request, IMO. The relative value of adding attributes I can't speak to, but if you make dozens of edit requests that are only about adding attributes to already-present banners, it's possible patrollers may ask you to stop. If that happens, you'll need to stop making those kinds of edit requests and just leave comments and move on. Valereee (talk) 18:15, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
