Thank you
for adding my photo to the Chantry Island, Hertfordshire page. Hadn't quite got round to it. MikeHobday (talk) 14:23, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- You're very welcome! I wasn't sure if it should go on Chantry Island (Ontario) or Chantry Island, Hertfordshire, but the context of the shrine helped :)
- Are you liking the mobile upload feature? (Disclosure: I'm working with the team that developed it.) If you're into photographing things in your area, there's a neat Nearby feature in the works that lets you see articles near you, and if they don't have images, you can add them to the article via your phone. If you visit Settings and opt into beta, you'll see it in the left-hand menu. Cheers and happy uploading, Accedietalk to me 23:10, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent, have found the "nearby" feature. Is there an easy way to add a photo direct to the article? MikeHobday (talk) 20:22, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- On articles that have no images or infoboxes in the lead section, you should see a big blue button at the top of the page that asks you to add an image. (An example of this kind of article is A cappella). If you're not seeing the button, double-check to make sure that you're logged in (it will only appear for logged in users). If you're still not seeing it, let me know! Accedietalk to me 23:56, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, still not seeing the big blue button! Maybe it's my phone (Galaxy SII)? MikeHobday (talk) 16:42, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- User:MikeHobday, do you have any gadgets installed? The button stopped showing up for me, too, because apparently desktop gadget code was leaking into mobile and causing problems. This should be fixed soon. I'll keep you posted :) Accedietalk to me 18:28, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- Now working, many thank! MikeHobday (talk) 18:25, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

You may want to check this. There is a university course giving serious WP:UNDUE issues. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:05, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

- Yeah... AGFing on the paraphrasing/summary of the sources, it looks like a good-faith, high-quality addition... that belongs in its own separate article. Hopefully removing this graft and potting it in its own little garden won't cause too much fuss :) This is a good reminder that the Soviet section is on the verge of undue-y, too, and could also stand to get split off. - ETA: oh look, here's the syllabus. "In addition to allowing you to explore an aspect of Russian history you find most fascinating, this assignment will also allow you to consider the implications and responsibilities involved with creating and 'publishing' publicly-accessible information." - Very much so... has the professor actually replied anywhere? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:50, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Not yet. Left him a message on his talk page. I split the article off regardless. Accedietalk to me 01:14, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Alrighty, I'll be watchlisting it. Ironic how I was just emphasising the need for communication between lecturers and the Wikipedia community at a conference... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:20, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hello to both of you. I was wondering if you had suggestions as to how improve my communication with the Wikipedia community. I would like to continue this assignment since I believe both students and Wikipedia benefit from the process. Is there a way for me to guide my students a bit more effectively so as to not cause too much headache for editors and ensure my students' additions stay posted? Prof. Dumancic (talk) 19:07, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- @User:Prof. Dumancic - I think there might be some general resources at the Wikipedia Education Program pages. Crisco might know some more up-to-date onwiki documentation. In general, I think it helps to: 1) make sure your students are registered under their own unique usernames, and 2) to encourage them to build their articles onwiki (instead of in an external text editor). It looks suspicious to Wikipedians to see a huge chunk of text get added to an article in one edit from an anonymous user. If your student is creating an entirely new article, she can build it in her sandbox (link to it appears when you register an account, next to username and talk page links in the top right navigation). Last but not least, it's good to follow bold, revert, discuss policy: feel free to make bold changes, but if they are reverted, begin a discussion on the article talk page. Hope that helps! I know it seems like a strange, inscrutable space at first, but really we're mostly quite nice :) We just care about keeping the encyclopedia in good shape. Accedietalk to me 20:33, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- More or less as Accedie said; further resources are also available at Wikipedia:Education program/FAQ, Wikipedia:Education program/Students, and Wikipedia:Education program/Educators. Step-by-step guides for students and educators are available at Wikipedia:Training/For students and Wikipedia:Training/For educators. If they want to create a userspace draft, an easy shortcut is available at Help:Userspace draft; after creating an account they just have to enter the title of the article they are writing into the white bar and click "create a userspace draft". This will give them a sandbox to build an article in and it has little to no chance of being deleted. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:36, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Request for Recommendations/Advice
Hi Maryana! Thank you for your post on the talk page for "Maria Popova." The team and I are very happy to know that we have your support for our project. In regards to your recommendation to get Popova to donate a picture of herself would you suggest reaching out to her through email or is there a better way to go about it?
I understand that you must be busy with your work as well as all of the other articles that you contribute to on Wikipedia, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions about the content and structure that I originally outlined on the talk page? If you have any initial suggestions or comments, we would greatly appreciate any that you may have. If not, we will go ahead and dive right into our edits this weekend and check in with you once we feel like we have reached a milestone (most likely sometime early or mid next week).
Also, do you know of any way to attract more attention to the talk page for Popova? The reason why I ask is because our instructor would like us to get feedback from as many Wikipedians as possible. If you have any contacts that you think would be interested in contributing feedback to our initial outline or edits, we would be more than happy to hear what they have to say as well. Thanks again!
Ric.chi (talk) 13:58, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
- Ric.chi, oh my, I'm so sorry for not getting back to you sooner!! I'm glad you found some great volunteers to help out on this. I'll have a look now and see if there's any last-minute assistance I can offer. Apologies again for leaving you hanging! From a cursory glance, it looks like the students did great, though :) Accedietalk to me 00:41, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation
December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors
The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Basketball uniform, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Nike and Tank-top (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
