Thanks
[edit]I thank you for granting me Wikipedia:Rollback_feature and I will attempt to use this permission to remove as much vandalism as is possible in a day by using it in conjuction with User:Lupin/Anti-vandal_tool which I currently use and find a revolutionary script
Again, Many Thanks A Cool Editor (talk) 16:34, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Acalamari, I don't mean to question you – and I'm not going to unilaterally revert you unless it proves necessary – but are you aware you've just granted rollback to an account with 100 mainspace edits who was denied it two days ago? – iridescent 16:40, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, no, I was not aware of the denial at all. If I had checked the history, which it's obvious I didn't, I would have known and would have denied the request myself. Sorry Iridescent, I've been on a break for the last few months, and need to remind myself of a few things again. For the record, the user's reverts looked fine to me, which was the main reason I granted rollback, and you're welcome to double-check some of them yourself and do whatever you think is necessary. Best wishes. Acalamari
- Well I disagree with the original denial, since according to the rollback page it says "Any administrator can grant rollback to a user using his or her own judgement". If the reverts are good, there's no issue in my opinion. Though mentioning something to Djsasso would be good. -- how do you turn this on 17:48, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have no opinion on the original declining, but Djsasso has been informed. Acalamari 17:55, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

- Yeah I have no problem that he granted it the 3rd time around. I denied him twice, and thought maybe I was being too hard on him when I saw he applied for a 3rd time so I thought I would let someone else handle it. -Djsasso (talk) 18:56, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- I really do apologise for the amount of trouble I have caused. If any admin finds it neccessary, I really do not mind if my rollbacker rights are removed, however, I have already made around 20 constructive rollbacks, see Special:Contributions/A_Cool_Editor A Cool Editor (talk) 10:17, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it: as long as you use rollback correctly then the above discussion was more than worth it. Best wishes. Acalamari 16:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Can I voice my opinion?
[edit]Hello, I would like to know if an editor is under review for possible adminship but that review doesn't appear on everyone's watchlist to participate, is it still okay to make a comment or ask a question? --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 20:50, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure what you mean: you can participate or ask questions in any request for adminship that is listed on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship, but any request not listed on that page should not be edited. You can also look at the current requests by viewing Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard. Does this help? Thanks. Acalamari 20:54, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Pointer to the longer explanation of my position on Everyking
[edit]Just wanted to make sure you had seen this discussion on the talk page of that same RFA. May change your opinion, may solidify it. YMMV.—Kww(talk) 19:22, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I am aware of that discussion. In Everyking's RfA, it was stated a few times that Everyking, despite his inclusionist views, would not close AfDs to his own opinions, and that's even if he wanted to close them in the first place, yet he was still opposed over his views anyway. In your RfA, I do not oppose you for your views (that would be hypocritical of me), and I'm not a fan of people being opposed for their Wikiphilosophies either, unless those views actually affect actions problematically: everyone has a differing point of view. I'll only ask this: what is your position on closing AfDs? Acalamari 20:17, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- I won't make a campaign promise not to close AFDs. That works just as well as admins promising that they will be subject to recall: because promises made in RFAs aren't binding, you have to evaluate a candidate based on what you think they would do performing that function, even if they promise not to do it. I didn't consider Everyking's promise not to perform them in making my decision, and I wouldn't advise anyone to consider any such promise in any RFA.
- I tried to answer that question in Q4, but I'll expand. The role of any admin is to evaluate consensus. I firmly do not believe that that is a purely numeric decision: part of evaluating consensus is to evaluate the arguments and weigh them: nine well argued keeps can win over a dozen unsupported deletes, and vice versa. Part of that job is to evaluate the arguments relative to policy. The arguments can quite validly argue for exceptions, but not simply fail to reference them.
- Take a hypothetical song that, for example, woefully failed WP:MUSIC: never charted, never covered by another artist, never released as a single. Yet, five or six other artists refer to that song as an influence, something which had a strong and direct influence on their career. There's no problem with people arguing Keep: I think this is an exception to the guidelines, because having such a strong influence on an artist like So-and-so, as revealed in his interview in Rolling Stone, makes this song notable. Because of the Rolling Stone article, we have a third-party source, so it meets WP:N even it fails WP:MUSIC That's a great argument, one worth weighing highly. But what to do with just Keep? Or, worse yet, Keep Meets WP:MUSIC#Songs when no fair and objective evaluation can be made that makes the argument true? On the other side, how about raw Delete !votes? These weak arguments have to count for less than the strong ones. In an ideal world, you could claim one well-reasoned argument could trump 100 opposing, but unreasoned, statements. We don't live in an ideal world. In practice, if my evaluation of the arguments presented in the AFD resulted in an answer that was opposed to a strong numerical majority, I only have two choices: pass by the AFD, because I couldn't close according the numerical majority with a clear conscience; or relist, with a statement that I was relisting because there were too many votes without reasoning. If I took the third alternative, that of just doing the opposite of a strong majority wanted, I might as well open the DRV case myself. In cases where an thorough evaluation comes up with an answer where the numeric counts are closely balanced, I've got no argument with an admin proceeding according to his evaluation.
- I really believe that we have to get away from thinking of AFDs as votes. We wind up with too many cases of pile-ons in both directions: groups that want to keep the most plot-laden articles around because they like the series, and groups that want to wipe out articles based on their own personal perceptions of notability. As I said in the RFA, I expect to relist AFDs if I find that no debate has occurred or if I think the arguments go in opposition to the numeric analysis. While I think we have to go back to debating instead of voting, you can't go too far away from what people are used to and expect.
- On a purely practical level, I know that if I manage to squeak my way into adminship with this RFA, every deletion I performed would go to DRV just because of people's perception of me, so it's not an area I would rush into.—Kww(talk) 21:24, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- After this response, I'll withdraw my opposition. I may not support at the moment, but I won't oppose anymore. Thanks for this reply. Acalamari 23:49, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Acalamari and thank you for your message. :-) I agree that I did not deserve the outcome of my RfB, and I agree that I made some mistakes. However, the only things I've learned from it had nothing to do with RfBs. Or bureaucratship. The most important lesson that I could learn is that the dark side of Wikipedia spares no one. But even that I already knew. Again, thank you for your message. Users like you used to be common on Wikipedia, but they're so rare these days... I'm glad not all of them have left. :-) Best regards, Húsönd 00:40, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

RE: Rollback
[edit]Hi Acalamari! In response to your question on my talk page, I would appreciate the right to rollback. [edit]I just came here to drop a thanks for the rollback and Image:Sam Masterbating.jpg (not safe for work) popped up on your user page. I clicked the history tab but last edit was done by you. I don't know how to revert it. And I'm not sure if you are seeing it or not but its there! - Unpopular Opinion (talk) 17:31, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- All fixed :-) (See this). Best wishes, – How do you turn this on (talk) 17:42, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- I saw that kind of vandalism first time. Acalamari, thanks for the rollback. - Unpopular Opinion (talk) 17:53, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ah yes, transclusion vandalism: that's where a page that's transcluded onto another gets vandalized, and as a result, both pages get vandalized, but one hasn't even been edited, but has the vandaliszed page transcluded onto it. That userbox got vandalized, and as my user page has that userbox on it, my userpage went from viewing the userbox to viewing vandalism. Thanks to How do you turn this on for fixing the vandalism. You're welcome to Unpopular Opinion for rollback! :) Acalamari 19:06, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Matty4123's RB request
[edit]Hello, when I saw you grant rollback to Matty4123 not too long ago, I was going to add a short note that they last requested for rollback only two days ago. Do you think that user should have waited a little longer after the first request was denied? Thanks, SchfiftyThree (talk!) 23:55, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- I was not aware of that denial, and I based my conclusion on the editor's recent reverts, of which seemed good to me. He was denied rollback for lack of reverts, and he has done vandal-reverts since then. I also left a note on their talk page, reminding them to use rollback properly. Had I been aware of the denial at the time, I would have seeked more input, but since I've already done it, I'm not going to undo it: it'll clog the userrights log and cause more drama than just leaving it. Rollback is not difficult to remove. Thanks for letting me know, however: I'll check up on Matty4123's reverts after he's used the tool for a bit. Acalamari 00:04, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Need IP blocked
[edit]Hey! Some guy is blanking my user page! His IP address is 71.104.129.104. He/She has been blocked once. I warned him the first time, and he is still doing it. Should you block him or should I warn him? I am not an sysop. Oh, and I would like to have rollback privleges. You do the blocking/warning and I'll fuss around trying to revert it back. OK? Back to Mac32 17:22, 5 November 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Backtothemacman32 (talk • contribs)
- I've blocked the user for 48 hours. Normally I wouldn't block after a single instance of vandalism, but in this case, the user was a repeat vandal to your userpage, and thus, a block was justified. Someone else reverted the vandalism.
- However, regarding rollback rights, I'm afraid I have to decline that request for now. Currently, you only have a few edits to articles, and little to no vandal-reverting. I kindly suggest that you read up on vandalism, and practice reverting vandalism using the undo tool for some time. Come back to me or request rollback here in a week or two when you've practiced. Best wishes. Acalamari 17:32, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Madonna Wikiproject
[edit]I think we should start a Wikiproject for Madonna. What do you think? — Realist2 15:57, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- I think that would be a great idea: there are many articles relating to Madonna, and a WikiProject would help. Be aware, however, that I don't edit Madonna-related articles very often, but if I can help, I shall. Acalamari 16:30, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well I can certainly set it up, I started WP:JANET so I know what I'm doing. I'm currently busy with other Wiki tasks and off Wiki stuff but I can set it up in the Christmas holidays. Before that we need to see if we have enough support. I will leave a notice about it on the Madonna talk page to see if there is enough support. If we can get the support (about 8 long term editors) then I have no problem doing it. — Realist2 16:42, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit]The RfA Barnstar | ||
Acalamari, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 22:28, 25 November 2008 (UTC) |

Just want to say...
[edit]Have a Happy 18th Birthday! Everyone seems to have forgotten this special occasion for a special wikipedian, especially given all the messages you got last yr :P I wont let it bypass though. NHRHS2010 set the stakes pretty high by making a video for you on your wikibirthday but he looks to be busy (aren't we all) otherwise i can only imagine what type of gift he would have given you. Regardless, hope all goes well, take it easy and enjoy it. Cheers Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 08:01, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

- Thank you, Acalamari! This year was excellent, especially as my folks let me do the cooking! I hope both your birthday and your Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it, that is) were excellent. Kafka Liz (talk) 21:36, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- You're welcome! Nice one for getting the chance to cook. Yes, our Thanksgiving was good, and so was my acutal birthday. In fact, we spent much of my birthday restoring our twenty-year-old Compa computer: as boring as that may sound, it was great to see that computer working again after five years of inactivity (in fact, it was that computer where I first learned to use a computer). Thanks for thinking of me. :) Best wishes. Acalamari 00:51, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Page creation
[edit]This is the first article I ever put together, so I don't know if I'm doing this right or wrong by asking, but can I create this page? YBK 20:45, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not up-to-date on band notability guidelines, but I say go ahead and be bold: you don't need my or anybody else's permission to create a page. You may want to find additional sources for the band, however, to help verify more of the information. Acalamari 21:00, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, spank me sensible - here, at last, comes the dribbling beer
[edit]Have an unyielding beer on me.
Let the amber nectar flow all day and night. Let it run down the mountains and through the caverns and across the rich lawns to swamp the streets. Let it rain beer.
