In the news

[edit]

Maybe it'd be nice to have the death of Johannes Heesters, the most famous operette star of all time and the world's oldest performer, on the "In the News" section of the Main Page? If you agree, you might consider taking a look here, as I nominated him. Mythic Writerlord (talk) 21:49, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear friend, which kind of books do you recommend me to read to make a better world while saving my self, specially in recent nasty world of surveillance; politics or diplomacy or intelligence analysis or protective intelligence? have you ever read any of this books:

The Years of Lyndon Johnson, Vol. 3: Master Of The Senate; by Robert A. Caro

Diplomacy (A Touchstone book); by Henry Kissinger

Intelligence Analysis: A Target-Centric Approach

On War; by Carl von Clausewitz

How to Look for Trouble: A Stratfor Guide to Protective Intelligence; by Stratfor

Representatives of Groningen for the States Deputed of the Netherlands et al.

[edit]

Dear ATX, I saw you created categories for members of the States Deputed of several provinces. I think that is a good thing, but feel the name is a bit off. I interpret "Representatives of Groningen for the States Deputed of the Netherlands" as: the representatives of Groningen in the States Deputed. Thus it seems that there is only the "states deputed of the Netherlands" (which doesn't exist) with representatives from Groningen, Friesland etc. Wouldn't "Members of the States Deputed of Groningen" be a better name? Rgds! L.tak (talk) 13:48, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The correct Dutch to English translation is rather difficult in this case, the translation of "Gedeputeerde" is "Representative" so i used that as a starting point. But i see your point! I have no objection to change the names. --ATX-NL (talk) 14:58, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ok, then I will request so... My main point was the "for the states deputed of NL"-part; the member/representative is less important to me, but I think "member" is better. A "Gedeputeerde" is a representative of the "Provinciale Staten" and thus a member of the "Gedeputeerde Staten"... L.tak (talk) 16:01, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dutch Prime minister

[edit]

Hi ATX-NL, I've got a little question. You undid my edit on the article Prime Minister of the Netherlands because you say that the term of the prime minister is indefinitely renewable (and you give the example of Ruud Lubbers) but I'm not sure about that. It is true that Ruud Lubbers was prime minister for almost 12 years, but his second cabinet fell before the end of his four year term. That's why he was allowed to be prime minister for another four years, because he did not yet serve eight full years. That was the same with Jan Peter Balkenende. Although he had already been prime minister in four different cabinets, he had not yet been prime minister for 8 years, so he was allowed to be p0rime minister another term (but his CDA wasn't the largest party anymore, so Mark Rutte became prime minister). But maby I'm wrong, so I would like to hear from you.

Thanks in advance! Porsche-one (talk) 16:09, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Your name suggests that you are Dutch (but I'm not sure) so you can answer in Dutch if you like (:

--ATX-NL (talk) 16:31, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

==Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Fictional Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff==

A tag has been placed on Category:Fictional Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

it's a category created only for Percy Fitzwallace (who is not notable anyway); no other military official position has a category like that

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hey ATX-NL

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Replaceable fair use File:Jonathan Archer.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Jonathan Archer.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 86.155.142.212 (talk) 21:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Willem Oltmans.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. King's commisioner

[edit]

HeATX, I agree with your revert from King's and Queen's commissioner to King's commissioner, because that is the constitutional and present name…. But your first move was using the move-button, while the revert was using copy pasting. This means that the page was at King's commissioner, while the history was at King's and Queen's commissioner. I have requested at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests that this be solved…. Groet! L.tak (talk) 10:09, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

States-Provincial

[edit]

Wim Kok

[edit]

Hello ATX-NL. I see you restored your long lead section in the Wim Kok-article. I had trimmed it, and put the relevant info from it in the separate paragraphs, where lot of the info from the lead was missing. After you restored the long lead, while keeping basically the same sentences in the paragraphs, the text has become repetitive to the extreme, especially since someone elaborated on the Srebrenica massacre in a separate section. If I may give some advice: read the complete article as if you are an interested outsider, and see if it reads smoothly. Best regards, Jeff5102 (talk) 10:56, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wim Kok

[edit]

Hello, this is what happened tot the Wim Kok-article a while ago:

  • First, you expanded the article in the lead-sectiom;
  • Then, I gave the article some structure, and divided the big parts in the lead over the several paragraphs, editing out words like "lijsttrekker"(what is wrong with "top candidate"?) and taking care that things were said twice.[1]
  • And then, you saw I had removed your work in the lead, probably without realizing it was moved to the paragraphs below the lead-section. Thus, you reinserted your lead-section: [2]
  • The result is an article in which the same thing is said twice.

What shall we do to make it more readable again? Best regards, Jeff5102 (talk) 20:28, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I have opened a discussion about possibly merging the above un-sourced article that you created. I have made a few remarks and you have not replied yet (I did ping you just in case the page was not on your watchlist); I will be proposing the merger or deletion of the article soon, maybe you have an opinion to add to the article's talk page? --Domdeparis (talk) 11:51, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of Prime Ministers of the Netherlands by military service has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced, and there is barely anything to note about the military experience of Dutch prime ministers. Besides, I don't think the Cold War qualifies even though it has the word 'War' in its name.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 13:35, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have contacted you several times asking you to add sources to articles you create and to communicate. I have directed you towards WP:BURDEN and WP:Communication is required. Please add sources to the articles you have created and please respond here. Boleyn (talk) 18:41, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please respond to the above? I see you have been editing. This is now likely to end in an WP:ANI if you don't communicate and add sources to all the articles you've created. You've also just created Bruno Bains, which does not have sufficient sourcing for a biography of a living person. Boleyn (talk) 19:55, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In an archived version of https://www.parlement.com/id/vg09lli74lzm/m_a_m_thijs_woltgens you can read about him: "fractievoorzitter PvdA Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal, van 6 november 1989 tot 3 mei 1994" Can you explain on basis of what source you wrote Wöltgens hold that position in the period 4 November 1989 – 17 May 1994? - Robotje (talk) 11:03, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ATX-NL, with this edit you changed the period that Adri van Es was State Secretary with the portfolio Navy from 14 August 1963 – 6 July 1971 into the period 14 August 1963 – 16 September 1972. At https://www.parlement.com/id/vg09llh1bywp/a_adri_van_es you can read about him: "staatssecretaris van Defensie (belast met de aangelegenheden betreffende de Koninklijke Marine), van 14 augustus 1963 tot 6 juli 1971". Can you explain on basis of what source you wrote that Van Es was State Secretary with the portfolio Navy in the period 14 August 1963 – 16 September 1972? - Robotje (talk) 01:03, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ATX-NL, with this edit you added that Winnie Sorgdrager, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and Sybilla Dekker are all three starting from June 22 2018 Minister of State in The Netherlands. According to this newspaper article in the NRC of June 22 2018 they have only been nominated. On basis of what source did you write that these three people have been Minister of State since June 22 2018? - Robotje (talk) 23:12, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For the articles about Winnie Sorgdrager, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and Sybilla Dekker you also did edit like [3]. These are biographies about living people so please realize Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons is applicable here! - Robotje (talk) 04:24, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ATX-NL, with this edit you removed in Democrats 66 article Thom de Graaf from the 'Members of the Senate' list and added the word 'vacant' on that list of current D66 member off the Senate. On June 22, 2018 the Senate website published a statement of him saying [4] "In september aanstaande zal ik mijn lidmaatschap van de Eerste Kamer beëindigen." So he is indicating there he will give up his seat in the Senate in September 2018. With this edit you also marked him in that template as a former member of the Senate. On basis of what source did you write he already lost his seat in the Senate? - Robotje (talk) 22:56, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello ATX-NL, with this edit you created an article and under a photo there you wrote "The first meeting of the Third Ruijs de Beerenbrouck cabinet on 10 August 1929" On basis of what source did you write that that picture was taken during a meeting on Saturday 10 August 1929. On Commons for that file (see File:Kabinet 1929 - SFA002006241.jpg) there is no mentioning of a specific date. Dutch newspapers have that picture in issues published on Tuesday 13 August and Wednesday 14 August 1929. So that would make it more likely that meeting was on Monday 12 August. Please explain what was the source you used for writing the meeting was on that Saturday. - Robotje (talk) 14:51, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Linking

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your work on Dutch politicians. We are most grateful. Just one point, though: you'll already have noticed that en.WP links much less than other WPs. So it would be appreciated (if you're producing/translating lots more of these articles) if you went easy on links to commonly understood terms. There's never a hard-and-fast boundary between what should or shouldn't be linked, but generally we expect English-language readers to know what "politician" means in the dictionary, for example; and what a board of directors is. We like to ration links so readers are directed to the most specific and useful ones (if they ever click on them, which is doubtful). The community decided in 2009 that the tradeoff between dilution (and lots of patchy bright blue) vs instant travel to rather generalised articles needed to be re-set. Thanks again, and if you have any questions, or wish to challenge what I've said, please do. Tony (talk) 05:26, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hedy d'Ancona

[edit]

Hi ATX-NL. You've recently modified the article about Hedy d'Ancona. Among other things, you changed this sentence: "In 1994, she was named as a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion." You changed the year 1994 to 1982. I'm curious, what is your reliable source for this? --77.173.90.33 (talk) 01:08, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ATX-NL, I see you've made various edits since my comment above, which means Wikipedia has notified you that I made aforementioned comment. I would like you to WP:COMMUNICATE with me, and answer my question. Thank you in advance. --77.173.90.33 (talk) 19:48, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, a couple of years back you added Category:Writers about activism and social change to this article. I'm familiar with him in general terms, but not with his writings. Would you be good enough to enlighten me as to why you think he warrants inclusion in this category. Obviously he advocated social change. But did he actually write about the subject of activism and social change? Anomalous+0 (talk) 11:19, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see you also added that category to this article. I don't know anything about this person, but I suspect it's pretty much the same situation as above. Please enlighten me about this one, too -- and for that matter, any others you may have added to the category. Thanks in advance! Anomalous+0 (talk) 11:28, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Aldermen of Borculo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
