Colin Farrell

Hi

I am afraid I am not around much until the beginning of February, but after a quick look at the article, there are a few things that may be easily fixed. If I was to prepare an article for GA status, I would go through the GA & FA checklists and try and get it a little higher than the GA minimum. It is easy to see what is required to take it from a GA to an FA and to put some of those things in here can only aid in gaining a GA.

For example, take one thing which often crops up, images and the "alt=" parameter. At GA an image is required to have the alt= parameter present, but not completed, while at FA it is to be completed. It is easy enough to fill it in while add the alt= param.

Some ref material:

After looking at these, the next step is doing a thorough copy-edit against MoS. Always try and use the project specific for additional criteria and variations to MoS. Here it would be the biographies MoS (link above).

If you are new to GA nominations, take a look at my first attempt (Talk:Belitung_shipwreck#GA_Review), and rest assured that it is normal to have that sort of attention to detail from the reviewer - especially if you get a good one!

I will try and give it a more thorough going over tonight or tomorrow, and probably do a copyedit, though I am a little rusty so it may be a little slow :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 21:11, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks so much, Chaosdruid!! You get a cat;)--Aichik (talk) 21:15, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Apologies - An unfortunate RL event took me away for a while, but if you still want me to I could give it a going over tonight. Chaosdruid (talk) 12:03, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
No worries. I haven't had time to even read your links. You know what, I'd appreciate you two cents on this instead.

GOCE blitz

Hi Aichik. I'm very sorry, but the February blitz is for requests, not tagged articles. Analytical feminism and Anna Banana don't qualify for it, I'm afraid. --Stfg (talk) 08:59, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

No prob. Will know for next time! Thanks, Stfg for your work--Aichik (talk) 22:00, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Edit warring on Beyoncé Knowles

You were just blocked for edit warring and your first edit once unblocked that relates to this article was to revert someone, the very act that got you blocked to begin with. I was already at the page to block you for one week, and decided to extend one tiny piece of rope instead. I've full protected the article. Since the material you are wanting to add is BLP related and highly contentious, and the sources you are using are yahoo blogs, you need to get a consensus first, and properly source it. I've reverted it back to the previous state. Once the protection expires, if you go and blind revert without a proper consensus, you will be blocked. This should be viewed as a final warning. Dennis Brown - - © - @ - Join WER 19:19, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Wrote on your page. Look at my referenceS more carefully: Jennie completely mischaracterized that edit and the older one too. I had TWO references on it: Yahoo and Vibe magazine. Vibe is not a blog.--Aichik (talk) 19:49, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
You asserted a WP:BLP had copied from 3 artists, failing to provide sources for 2. It's as simple as that, Aichik. —User:JennKR | 19:56, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
Doesn't forgive you for the fact of completely ignoring my second reference. Talk about biased.--Aichik (talk) 20:01, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
As I said on my talk page, I don't care about the content, it is the behavior that is the problem. Your mistake was returning to the exact same behavior that got you blocked, reverting before discussing. Dennis Brown - - © - @ - Join WER 20:03, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello! There is a DR/N request you may have interest in.

This message is being sent to you let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You do not need to participate; however, you are invited to help find a resolution. The thread is "Beyonce Knowles, Talk:Beyonce Knowles". Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 21:42, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

GA reviewer recruitment

Hi Aichik,

Thanks for signing up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Recruitment Centre to be a reviewer; you're the Centre's first volunteer and hopefully will be its first graduate! I've created a page here to give a centralized point for our discussion; drop by whenever you have a chance.

Thanks, and I'll look forward to talking further with you soon, Khazar2 (talk) 20:45, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Since you haven't responded, I'm going to assume you're not interested at this time and close the training page. If you should change your mind in the future, though, just let me know. Cheers, and happy editing, -- Khazar2 (talk) 01:02, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

re Colin Farrell GA review

Were you able to get to this? How did it go? --Aichik (talk) 23:46, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Colin Farrell

The article Colin Farrell you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Colin Farrell for things which need to be addressed. Message delivered by GA bot, on behalf of Cirt -- Cirt (talk) 20:56, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Minispolid. Long time, no speak. I put in a request for Colin Farrell to be edited, not Tom Simpson. There's been some kind of mix-up. thanks--Aichik (talk) 00:59, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Not according to this. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 03:02, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
That's totally weird. I didn't type in Tom Simpson, I swear to God. The text below I wrote for Colin Farrell, I'd wondered what happened to that request. He gets a bunch of trolls, so maybe one hit my request? Anyway, do I need to resubmit onto the GOCE page?--Aichik (talk) 14:46, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Well I don't know what happened, and God's busy at the moment, but the edit does appear to have originated from your account. Might you account have been compromised? If so, you should at the very least change your password. Feel free to request a c/e of Colin Farrell on the requests page if you wish. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 23:37, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
As much as we all appreciate your work, Baffle gab, your tone towards me on this has been completely unnecessary. Your expression of glee upon finding the link that showed that the Tom Simpson article originated from my account even though I had expressly shown confusion about it, already broke one of the four tenets of editing which is to assume good faith on the part of editors. I would have let that go but then you had to reply to my response with your sarcastic "God's busy at the moment"? Is there something personal between us? If not, are you trying to make it personal? Because when an editor gave you some strawberries on your Talk page writing "I thank God countless times that i came across such a wonderful and polite copy-editor." (sic) you withheld any comment about his use of "God" there, and I'm the agnostic. Just a reminder to assume good faith, but if you can't, at least be consistent. You will eliminate most non-textual or -coding problems by being polite. thanks!!--Aichik (talk) 11:26, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry I offended you, Aichik. I presented the diff with no glee, I genuinely wondered whether your account had been compromised or used without your permission. Yes I could have phrased that better and I'm sorry. I'm agnostic too - so no offence was intended. Again, sorry. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 21:38, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I needed to hear that.--Aichik (talk) 01:17, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Aichik, what's the status of the GOCE copy-edit for the above article? Your last edit to the article was at 21:25 GMT on 25 August 2013‎, and you haven't marked it done on the requests page. Can you please let us know whether the request is completed so it can be be archived, left alone or returned to the list for another editor to work on? Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 03:02, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

See my note there. I've also emailed the requesting editor who is on a Wiki-break.--Aichik (talk) 11:42, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
Noted; thanks for the update. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 21:39, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
I've finished the copyedit, but don't know why you tagged cited material. Especially for GANs (the bar for FACs is considerably higher), our job as copyeditors is to polish the prose (not overhaul the article :-)). The tags you used are meant for uncited material, and this article is well-cited. All the best, Miniapolis 00:01, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I was trying to get it to make more sense and may have overreached. Thanks for taking care of it.--Aichik (talk) 01:18, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
I know, trying to get articles to make sense can be a bear :-). Thanks for your help with the requests (and in the drive) and all the best, Miniapolis 02:23, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Marilyn Mosley requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. reddogsix (talk) 22:21, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Nope, I don't think the page should be deleted and I've contested it. Thanks.--Aichik (talk) 23:57, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello Aichik. It has been over six months since you last edited your article submission, entitled Controversy over Vogue profile on Asma al-Assad.

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Controversy over Vogue profile on Asma al-Assad}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 15:03, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

12 Years a Slave questions & comments

I was reading through the plot summary and noticed two things I thought I'd bring to you: 1) It well exceeds the 700 word limit established by WP:FILMPLOT. The current revision totals 952 words, excluding actor names. That obviously means it needs some trimming. As someone who still hasn't seen the film (unfortunately), I was hoping that you could assist in this. 2) I noticed a particularly weird sentence while reading it:

This sentence is just oddly structure. Why is Northup referred to as Platt first? He isn't throughout the rest of the summary. Also, if you were to change that to Northup, that would make his name used three times in one sentence, which is just bad writing, to be frank.

Hopefully what I've pointed out is somewhat helpful to you, and I'm glad we've got someone like yourself helping us to improve this already great article. Cheers! Corvoe (speak to me) 20:30, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Platt is mentioned in the first sentence of the second paragraph in the plot section, and I've reviewed the article again and see where I can cut 98 words, but getting it down exactly to 700 is impossible, given that this movie is so plot-driven. I appreciate your concern but the WP:FILMPLOT guidelines say "should be between 400 and 700 words" not that it has to be.--Aichik (talk) 22:20, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

I feel like you took this super personally for some reason, and it wasn't meant to be negative. I know it's established that he's called Platt, but nowhere else after that, except for the sentence I noted, is he actually referred to as anything other than Northup. It just seems out of place. Also, this is directly from WP:FILMPLOT, the very next sentence after "should be between 400 and 700 words": "The summary should not exceed the range unless the film's structure is unconventional, such as Pulp Fiction's non-linear storyline, or unless the plot is too complicated to summarize in this range. (Discuss with other editors to determine if a summary cannot be contained within the proper range.)" While I see your point, that it may need to be longer than the limit, there hasn't really been a conversation in relation to the length of this section, and one should probably take place. I'm sure someone could find a way to shorten the plot section by a bit. Corvoe (speak to me) 16:52, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

Not sure why you're writing to me personally, actually (talk about "taking things personally"?): This discussion should be on the film's Talk page. I looked into cutting, but if you can't be talked into a compromise, I'm not going to bother: I'd rather move onto other articles. As you well know you are free to make the changes yourself as you see fit, thanks--Aichik (talk) 17:47, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

Rebecca Chamberlain

Referring to the Rebecca Chamberlain article posting:

Hi, so I've added articles from Art in America, the Boston Globe, NY Sun, and the New York Times since you placed your tag about this article needing more references. In addition, I've added a link to articles on the New York Foundation for the Arts, RISD, Pennsylvania Ballet, and a Dutch art nonprofit as well as a dancewear website, the latter for information about her sister. Could you please revert your tag?
By the way, according to Wikipedia, you're really only supposed to use the "Refimprove" tag on NON-biographical articles. So I'd encourage you to refrain from using this tag so much, and if you can't, to take a break from Wikipedia for as long as you need. thank you;)

You've done a great job on the Rebecca Chamberlain article and I absolutely agree that there are a number of really great sources, particularly the use of newspaper articles. I reviewed the article and initially took off the Template:BLP sources tag, which defines the usage as:

"This template is intended to be placed at the top of articles about living persons that need additional references, and therefore in need of immediate attention. If the article is not about a living or recently deceased subject, you may wish to use {{Refimprove}} instead."

This is a living person, so Sarah applied the correct tag for Biographies of living people.

There are a couple remaining issues, though, that I saw that are best to be resolved before removing the tag. The two biggest ones, and the reason I retagged are: MySpace, not reliable because it's a social media site which has no editorial control, and the artist's CV, which is not a neutral, objective source. The gallery citation would be better to replace with a more reliable secondary source. The source for the daughter is a merchant's site and does not cover the information that was being cited.

Like I said, you've done a great job, just a couple places to tweak and the article will be good. If you cannot find a source for the information at MySpace, the article subject's CV and the merchant site, then it should be removed. I hope this helps, there are a lot of guidelines to sort through. If I can help, let me know.--CaroleHenson (talk) 02:25, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

I've responded on Chamberlain's [talk page]. thanks--Aichik (talk) 19:26, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Farmhouse in Provence

You also tagged Farmhouse in Provence, which may have been a misunderstanding. I moved the placement of the citation to just before the bulleted items which hopefully makes it clearer that the entire list is cited by the same source. The last line had the source info in the sentence, but should have been formatted as a citation. It is now.

If there's just a couple of instances of citations missing, generally citation needed tags are added rather than tagging at the article level. But again, this all was probably a misunderstanding.--CaroleHenson (talk) 05:33, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Yoko Ono

You tried to put a GA template on Talk:Yoko Ono but it wasn't complete. I'm not familiar with the whole process, but I did not see it nominated on WP:GAC so I removed it. If I was mistaken, please feel free to correct it. Cheers. EvergreenFir (talk) 21:21, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Oh, okay. The brackets weren't complete is what I meant. I'll re-add it. EvergreenFir (talk) 21:26, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I see you already got to it. Again, I wasn't sure what was up so that's why I messaged you. EvergreenFir (talk) 21:27, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Armando Rodriguez

The article I deleted was actually only a redirect, so there's nothing there to send over. If you want to create an article on that name, go for it, won't be overwriting anything. Wizardman 02:37, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

My admin privileges were removed since I didn't edit for one year, so I can't see the original page. Sorry! Thunderbrand (talk) 22:22, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
I can oblige. There have been three deleted articles at this title. I'll copy their content below for you - TB (talk) 15:21, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
  • (This deleted 9 October 2005 by User:Thunderbrand) : {{nn-bio}} Armando Rodriguez 1990-? Armando Rodriguez is a high school student at Live Oak in California. He is also considered one of the greatest thinkers the school has ever seen. Here are a few of his quotes: ->"School grades are not measurements of how smart (a person) is. It is a measure of how well you grasp a concept. Those that are slower to grasp an idea are usually the ones that thoroughly analyze evry point, thus they will get more out of it." ->"Humans are doomed to fail as a society due to the fact that we do not have enough virtues to counteract our vices. Thus we will never form a perfect utopia."
