Simandou mine

Hello, thanks for your message. Iron ore mines on the scale of those proposed in the Simandou mountains will inevitable cause immense ecological and social disruption. They will also make the executives and shareholders of the multi-national mining corporations very rich. When an editor of Wikipedia declared that it is "unfortunate" that the mining projects were delayed, that is clearly a biased position. I am surprised that this edit was not challenged and removed. I changed "unfortunate" to "fortunate" however I am in agreement with you that both opinions have no place in the article. Thank you. RussHawk (talk) 08:13, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

June 2021

Hi, I'm not sure why my edits on the Matthew S. Petersen article were reversed. I thought I put quite extensive explanations for my deletions. What other explanations was I required to provide? 24.46.221.231 (talk) 18:34, 30 June 2021 (UTC)unregistered user

Additional response: My edit was essentially a reversion to how it was before all criticism of Petersen's remarks were deleted in favor of favorable sources, with notably fewer explanations for those deletions. It makes sense at least to go back to before the National Review and Hill piece were added and undo all of the edits, including mine. Moxbrunbark (talk) 16:01, 1 July 2021 (UTC)moxbrunbark
@49ers: I know this is old news, but I just stumbled on the situation at the Petersen article now, and I do have to agree with the user you reverted that this was a well-explained removal of edits by a single-purpose account. Please be more careful with undos and warnings. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 05:46, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Feedback on Page Deletion

Hello! Could I get feedback on the deletion of my article? It's my first article in wikipedia and I thought I had checked all the guidelines to make it right. Your feedback on what you thought was promotional is very valuable to me. I added only verifiable information with citations including third parties. Can you help? I really want to improve. I'm also very worried that two pages I used to link to my article (Susan Peirce Thompson who is the author of the book I was writing about, and Bright Line Eating which is the author's other book, were deleted at almost the same time. Is this right? These pages have been there for a lot of time and their history was not candidate for deletion. I added some facts to one that I verified while working on my article like a last name etc and edits have been fine. I'm worried that because of my first contribution other's people's pages were affected. As I say I practiced edits like advised on the guidelines and they were not discussed. Now these pages are gone and I don't know who created them to let that person know :( I feel terrible they were valuable. Can these two pages' deletions be revised please? Thanks so much for your time. I would really appreciate your help. Marianti21 (talk) 06:59, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Marianti21 also asked for assistance at the TeaHouse, where I suggested that you might be willing to Userify the deleted article so they could re-work it, or other editors could review and assist. I hope I didn't speak out of turn.--Gronk Oz (talk) 07:20, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
Gronk Oz:49ersBelongInSanFrancisco Thank you so much. I hope I can get the chance to have it Userfied to keep learning and become a better contributor. I will for sure search the help of experienced editors. I also hope that you guys can help me revise the restoration of the other two pages that were deleted.
@Gronk Oz: @Marianti21: 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco is not an administrator. They tagged the draft for deletion, they didn't delete it. The deleting admin's username is always visible in the log here. Given that it was deleted as unambiguous promotion it's unlikely to be restored (especially since there's been repeated attempts by different accounts to promote the author and her books), but regardless of that, you'll need to ask an admin about it. --bonadea contributions talk 10:07, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
@Marianti21: @Bonadea: Sorry! I mis-understood the bit at the end of the deletion notice where it says "...please contact the deleting administrator. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco". The deleting Admin is actually Athaenara, and that is who should be sent all the questions we spoke about.
Bonadea, I appreciate the concern about multiple editors being promotional, but in this case I choose to assume good faith and until there is evidence to the contrary I will proceed on the assumption that this editor is just what he says: a new editor who is trying to understand the bewildering maze of Wikipedia rules.--Gronk Oz (talk) 10:35, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
@Gronk Oz:@Bonadea: Thank you both for your help. Let me contact the administrator to see what he suggests. I am sorry that because of people promoting and writing opinions an article with verifiable information and valuable information is not considered or read. I really appreciate your help. Hopefully I can continue contributing.

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 804 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 847 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Lieber writing style edits

Sorry I did not notice I was not logged in. In fifteen years on Wikipedia and actively contributing, I've never been policed like that and had every edit reverted over something nuanced like commenting on the edit; it was just changing wording and style without changing content. Do what you want. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:5A00:3980:0:0:0:1D8D (talk) 05:30, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13805 articles, as of 08:00, 4 December 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

Speedy deletion nomination of IVIN Films

I contest it. 1: the company was responsible for the biggest crowdfundind for a film ever in Brazil, as mentioned in the article. 2: the film about Boniface was a milestone in the country's history - which neglects its heroes in a way that Americans do not understand - and it was attended by very important personalities, as mentioned in the article, too. COVID-19 was terrible for the company, as it postponed some other documentaries. 3: and, finally, the Portuguese article "IVIN Films" has not been deleted and was written in 2018. If it is relevant in Portuguese - as the company is relevant in Brazil -, then it should have an article in English, which is the lingua franca. Gondolabúrguer (talk) 03:23, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Regarding the Walmart Opioids article

I have noticed that you have added a tag to the article about Walmart and opioids. The tag states that the neutral view is contested. I’ve taken time to edit the article to make it more neutral, and I was curious if you could re-review the article; as I am still unsure if it meets neutrality.

If it is neutral, you can remove the tag. If it isn’t, please provide reasoning to why you think so. Roasted (talk) 03:22, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for updating it! I am still not sure it is neutral -- others have worked on it some, but even the phrasing "scandal" feels like it is biased toward one perspective on a complex problem (access to legitimately prescribed medication vs risk of filling prescriptions being abused). You've described other issues as "drug policy;" that might be a more neutral way to frame this issue. As a result I'm not comfortable removing the neutrality tag, but you are welcome to do so if you're confident and other editors will decide. I'm not going to replace it if you remove it, but I'm also not sure that everyone will see it as neutral. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:40, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Do you even know what youre talking about? He began his career in 2006 have you even seen his record? Did you even look? You wanna know what my source was genius? Aren't you supposed to give a user a few minutes after templating them the first time before escalating it? You gave them all 4 levels of templates rapid-fire, all ~10 minutes after their batch of bad edits had ended -- seemingly just because they had made more than 1. I think that was a bit excessive. — Garrett W. { } 06:35, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Hey @Garrettw87 -- that's very fair and charitable. They appeared to be removing one letter at a time from articles as fast as they could; I didn't realize that their vandalism spree had already stopped by the time I started warning. Normally I give the benefit of the doubt when it looks like somebody is honestly trying to learn; this editor didn't seem that way but I will try to be more charitable in the future. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 06:37, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
I agree, there was nothing about those edits that seemed in good faith -- but the whole point of leaving talk page messages, template or not, is for the user to see it and hopefully adjust their behavior. They can't conceivably have a chance to avoid warnings of escalating severity if they aren't given a small but reasonable window of time to read the lesser ones. (Of course, this is to say nothing about how soon a user should be blocked for bad behavior; that's entirely up to the admins and I don't question them.)
In any case, cheers and happy editing. — Garrett W. { } 06:46, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
@Garrettw87 Thanks! I appreciate the reminder that it's not just about mashing the angry button when people are editing in very bad faith. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 07:03, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Incorrect removal of edits in Artificial Leather

Hello. You removed 4 edits I made to Artificial Leather yesterday purportedly because not of encyclopedic nature. This is a wrong move and the edits need to be replaced. The article on Artificial Leather is not up to date as there are significant developments in replacing fossil fuel textiles with plant-based textiles. Impacts on the environment major reason for getting rid of fossil fuels and that was focus of amendments. Also inclusion of 2 now commercially available Brand Names. Book by me as Further Reading totally on point. Please replace. Annejamesco (talk) 00:09, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

@Annejamesco: Hi. Your edits added several external links to companies selling products. I placed a message on your talk page that explains which external links are appropriate for an encyclopedia. Your links were not appropriate for an encyclopedia. Please review the information I provided and feel free to retry your edits after complying with that policy. Thank you. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:04, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

Ozone Therapy

Hello, while I understand that one of the links was not appropriate for an encyclopedia, I do not understand why removing the whole paragraph. One of the references is to a scientific review which is referred to further down in the text. Suturn (talk) 05:46, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

It appeared that the purpose of the edit was to add a link to an Italian company selling ozone therapy. If you think that it would be possible to add other information without linking to companies selling ozone therapy products then please feel free to do so. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:05, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
@Suturn adding ping. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:06, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Incorrect removal in no labels

I left a Washington post article as a citation. That is a reliable source. Plus the statement wasn’t definitive, it just said accusations have been made. The claim that no labels is moderate is misleading and has been attacked on multiple fronts. 108.49.240.142 (talk) 11:45, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

The primary citation appeared to be to a Twitter thread, which is not a reliable source. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:35, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
I did leave a message about the living person but it didn't ask me for a source. The source is on her own YouTube channel. 2600:1700:5862:7C0:7944:83FC:6566:C777 (talk) 06:19, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

quit being so negative toward me

I am new. I am still figuring out the rules. I am also still figuring out what is what. I appreciate your hand in diplomacy, and I reach out mine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cheesemaster12 (talkcontribs) 08:27, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know. I thought they were the right fit as there are already two kind of same resources their. Can you please reveiw or guide me about ? I would really appriciate your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mevrik042 (talkcontribs) 12:32, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

@Mevrik042 You added a link to a site selling boxes. Please review the guidelines for links I provided on your talk page. I also removed the other links that were being used to promote commercial products. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 06:24, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Reason for removal ? the content is relevant to the article!

@49ersBelongInSanFrancisco I noticed that the link I provided for the Data-driven Programming article on Wikipedia was removed. I'd like to highlight the relevance of this link, (link removed to avoid further spam) by LogicBric, to the discussion. The Wikipedia article discusses the data-focused programming paradigm, while LogicBric's piece delves into practical applications in business. This connection between theoretical and practical aspects of data-driven approaches in both programming and business is significant. Therefore, I believe this link is valuable for a comprehensive understanding of data's role across various fields. Dhrumilpatel9 (talk) 07:07, 25 December 2023 (UTC)

See reply on your talk page. It is not consistent with the guidelines I linked there. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 07:11, 25 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for your help

Thank you for your help on reverting some edits of the user Quick Editing; I have reported them and User:Khnv to ANI. – 64andtim (talk) 06:26, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, it seems pretty blatant when Quick Editing was created today and seems adamant about keeping the page of a random Youtuber. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 06:28, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Dear user.
If wiki is neutral, then why is Christ mentioned as a homosexual? There are lots of vices on other religious figures especially Muhammad. I dont see any page like sexuality of muhammad or such, If you do make such a page then I shall accept these points such as "Homosexual" Christ. This paragraph is very offensive and Homsexuals and atheist usually use this paragraph to insult Christianity. Moreover people like King Frederick of Prussia was a Homosexual and I eddited that point of because that did not make such sense as he was an atheist. Kindly stop undoing my changes and do not consider it as vandalism 117.219.51.205 (talk) 07:01, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Adam Driver Wikipedia Page

Hey, sorry about removing that entire paragraph. I tried to just flag it for dubious information but didn't know how. Anyway, after looking into it a bit more myself, I realized I had conflated Lego Star Wars: the Force Awakens with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga when I assumed Adam had been incorrectly credited in place of Matthew Wood. Sorry about that. 104.229.7.68 (talk) 03:49, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

Upstairs Downtown.

Where is the citation of the starlet? Ronald Fishman was the father in the video. He was my wife’s father. We know that information. I can write it out on paper if you want a reference. I was there. I know what I wrote to be true. Toby Keith sent my wife a copy of the video when Ron died. NotLesser (talk) 07:32, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
