You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but if you wish to acquire additional privileges, you can simply create a named account. It's free, requires no personal information, and lets you:
- Create new pages and rename pages
- Edit semi-protected pages
- Upload images
- Have your own watchlist, which shows when articles you are interested in have changed
Note that in order for the first three features to be available, you must have had an account for a certain number of days and made a certain number of edits.
If you edit without using a named account, your IP address (2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63) is used to identify you instead.
I hope that you, as a Wikipedian, decide to continue contributing to our project: an encyclopedia of human knowledge that anyone can edit. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, or you can to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. We also have an intuitive guide on editing if you're interested. - Oh I don't think so. The next time you add unsourced content or otherwise vandalize a page on Wikipedia, I'll request your account be blocked. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 07:08, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Mistaken block
Please accept my humblest apologies - I saw an IP reverting a named editor a number of times, asssumed the worse, acted in haste. Now unblocked. GiantSnowman 07:37, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- Will you please restore my edits? This has been upsetting. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 07:39, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Well, this has been an interesting morning. If you'd like a decent giggle, Drmies, have a look at my edit history. JJMC89, thanks for helping out at the beginning [1]. Night. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 07:54, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- A gay bomb? Drmies (talk) 20:25, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- Not that so much, Drmies, as the circumstances that led to the mistaken block in the middle of the night. A hellacious crossfire, wherein I was reverting two disruptive accounts and getting harassed by both simultaneously, and had my reports at AIV and ANI repeatedly deleted. Then my reversions of vandalism were temporarily undone in the few minutes when I was blocked. The whole scene was Kafkaesque, by Wiki standards. My hair was on fire, but lucky for me I don't have that much hair to burn anymore, anyway. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 00:32, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- By the way, an admirable show of restraint not to block this user [2]. Though I wouldn't have minded 24 hours of cooling to give them time to actually read the guidelines. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 00:34, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- I know, I saw. I reverted them. They will be blocked next time, and I would have blocked had I seen it. I didn't see Bailo26 careless revert; I suppose they didn't have anything to say. But who was the sock that got you blocked? Drmies (talk) 01:04, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- Drmies, the sock was Bluexander (talk · contribs); have a look at that edit history prior to their block. At the same time, I was also getting flak from Chakradharpur (talk · contribs). I think it was the worst shitstorm I've walked into in a dozen years. Not counting the time I uncovered that admin who created the thousands of puerile redirects--when I reported it at ANI, one of the conspiracy-minded regulars suggested that I'd framed them. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 01:24, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oh I remember that admin, yes. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 01:28, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

John from Idegon, this was pared last year by Drmies, and I just cut further. I suspect you'd be a lot less gentle still, and I wouldn't blame you. Have a look if you have the time and inclination. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 02:29, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

I've done some cutting of promotional content here. Probably a lot more can be pared. JJMC89, Melcous or other top-notch talk stalkers, have a look if so inclined. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 22:05, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Drmies, Melcous, this could benefit from your attentions. I've removed a few external links, and more remain. This isn't the most egregious autobiography, but it has apparently been overseen by COI accounts for years, so further clean up and watchlisting are in order. Thank you very much for the observation, So sorry about that. Actually, I am still working on being a better editor. I think I have a good understanding of what is promotionional content on Do2dtun. I wish to fix it too, what do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olakunle Rufai (talk • contribs) 19:41, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- It is a car wreck--I don't think you can fix it. Almost the entire article is promotional in tone, and it always has been. Your edits this year just made a bad situation a bit worse, so I'm hoping to get a few uninvolved veteran editors to look at this and offer assistance. Thank you, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 19:44, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Ok, no problem. would look forward to seeing the changes so I can learn a few things. Thanks again. --Olakunle Rufai (talk) 19:59, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- For starters, all the content you added and sourced to TribesNG is dubious--that's not a WP:RELIABLE source, and it looks like a mirror of Wikipedia. As I mentioned, you must divulge if you have a conflict of interest with any of the subjects you're writing about. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 20:43, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

- Oh no. I'm an art whooore now, only furrow my brow for money. Write five hundred plus words in a couple of hours, then let the piece marinate for a few days, play with it, copyedit, streamline and send it in. By the time the magazine mails me the checks I've long since forgotten what I wrote. Port Perry High School, and a question re: copyright
Before I start cleaning this up, can someone tell me if it's a copyright violation of [4], or if the Wiki article content pre-dates the school website. Thanks, 2601:188:180:1481:7868:6144:7C5D:484A (talk) 03:09, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- I can't tell which came first. This sort of starts it, but the earlier version was already very much like the website version, which is dated 2013, as far as I can tell. I really don't know what to say; maybe Moonriddengirl does... Drmies (talk) 00:58, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- While I don't know if it or substantial parts of it were copied from the book source cited, I do not believe we copied from the website, but the other way around. Here's the first substantial change, turning 1926 into 1927. The external site says 1927. We see subsequent changes reflected in the external site, too. ([5], [6], [7], et al.) There's also the fact that redlinks in the external site are direct links to Wikipedia, which is strongly suggestive of their taking the material from us. For me, some of the best clues are when other editors make changes that wind up in the external site, and we see that here: [8], [9]. These kinds of changes make me pretty confident in saying that they copied from us. :) I should make a note of this at thetalk page, unless you want to, 2601...484A? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 02:07, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- You confirmed, alas, what I suspected, Moonriddengirl. Thank you for taking the time. I'll double back and have a look sometime soon. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:12, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, I already did some cleaning there. It was awful. I do suspect the history section is copied, and even searched for the book online, in the slender hope that there might be a Google edition. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:17, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi! I'm curious as to why you think these prizes and winners are not notable. Thanks Uberlibris (talk) 10:40, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, Uberlibris, it may be more relevant to ask what makes the prizes and awardees notable. That's an ocean of red links you added to the article (WP:WTAF), and with the possible exception of one or two marquee prizes, it's doubtful that the honors merit mention, especially when many are named after local sponsors--that gives the impression that this is somehow promoting non notable agencies as well, though that surely wasn't the intent. As an example, the National Academy of Design long held annual exhibitions, and many of the artists who exhibited and won awards were notable, but to list the annuals and prize winners would be WP:LISTCRUFT. That's what's happened at SALA, with far less prominent personalities. By the way, the management doesn't seem notable for encylopedic inclusion, either. Cheers, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:07, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- Another question: you've been pretty transparent re: WP:COI, and that you're editing as a paid contributor. Does that also apply to your edits at SALA? 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:15, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks for the tip on the management - I'm trying to improve this article after someone went in and added a lot of unsourced information. I'm also trying to improve it as part of a larger project to address the lack of information on South Australian contemporary art using the collection of the library I work in.. I will be adding articles for the redlinks, but this is very much a work-in-progress. I listed the prizes as they are evidence of notability for contemporary artists but I take your point about the non-marquee prizes. As for WP:COI, I don't work for SALA but edit and write Wikipedia articles on South Australian art as part of my duties as an art librarian. Where the article is specifically about my employer or one of our staff and graduates, then yes, WP:COI applies and I put that in the talk page. Otherwise I believe it falls within the Wikipedia:GLAM/Contribute exception about writing and editing using materials in my employer's collection. I consider myself to still be a novice editor and therefore still learning. Hence my question re notability as determining whether a living artist is notable or not is not easy. Uberlibris (talk) 05:37, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- A very good explanation re: your edits, Uberlibris; you've made substantial contributions here. Individual notability, as it pertains to artists, is no different than for anyone else. You've written some credible biographies, so you probably know that WP:BIO and WP:CREATIVE are the most relevant guidelines. A case can be made, when listing a handful of red link names within an article, that the figures are prominent, and merit stand alone articles in the very near future. But using an article as a repository for red links is not advisable. Among other things, it's an aesthetic eyesore. In this case, at SALA, I'd venture that most all the prizes and recipients fail notability--it's content that's appropriate for an organization's publications, but not so much for a general encyclopedia.
- To take one year you've added as an example: The Advertiser Contemporary Art Prize, Country Arts SA Breaking Ground Award, Adelaide Review Outsider Artist Award, Adelaide Review, Young Artist Award, Centre for Creative Photography Latent Image Award, Centennial Park Environment Award, The City Rural Emerging Artist Award, City of Unley Active Ageing Award, Don Dunstan Foundation Award and OZ Minerals Copper Sculpture Awards are minor honors bestowed in a regional festival. Thank you, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 16:46, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hello again. I've updated the article, taking into account most of your comments. I have removed the red links as I agree that they are not aesthetically pleasing but would have preferred to leave them as red links can encourage other editors to get involved. I have linked to their bios in Design and Art Australia Online (DAAO) where they exist. Not all of them have bios there as I know that the organisation tasked with updating DAAO with South Australian information has not been able to keep it up to date due to staffing shortages. I have deleted the majority of prizes but left those whose sponsors have been deemed notable (i.e. they themselves have Wikipedia articles). I have also tried to tone down the promotional language. Kind regards, Uberlibris (talk) 01:56, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- It's something, and indicates a good faith effort. I get that you don't want to delete them, but most of the remaining list prizes and recipients are not notable. 2601:188:180:1481:1034:5A75:D26C:7084 (talk) 02:04, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Hey Drmies or Melcous, here's one for when you've got nothing else to do. It could use a copyright check, but even without that, it's a slippery piece. Hard to parse factual from promotional. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 00:02, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

- No writing this evening. Watching the series here, and rooting, believe it or not, for the Dodgers. That's what a Yankees fan living in New England does. But lately every team I root for turns to mud, so it's like I'm blessing the Red Sox. Your dinner sounds good--just to peeve you a little, we may be past lobster season, but were still able to procure decent whole belly clams last week. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:12, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Ugh. Years' long involvement by IPs working at the school. I've done some minor cleaning; what remains is mostly the standard primary sourced business. Happy new year to all, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 16:25, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

- While Blankfein's illustrious career has earned praise in the heydays of Goldman Sachs, particularly when Goldman Sachs was doing so well compared to other Wall Street banks that are reeling from the aftermath of Financial crisis of 2007–2008 and Greek government-debt crisis, the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal comes as a revelation to investors in Wall Street and the world that nobody is God; if it is too good to be true, it is indeed too good to be true. Money, wealth and competitive advantage cannot be earned out of the proverbial thin air.

I edit and revert hundreds of vandalism a day, and since im a human, 1 mistake does slip in every 150 reverts or so. I am very effective at what I am doing. You can check the history. I didn't even know a war was happening so Im here to stop it. Lets all become friends and learn from our mistakes. Life is too short for this. AryanTheArticleArtist (talk) 18:50, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
- Whatever the reasons, you're not very good yet at discerning between vandalism and legitimate edits, and are getting a lot of warnings for this sort of thing. Thank you, Drmies, for intervening. I've seen this behavior before; Bbb23, any interest in running a check user? Thanks, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 20:11, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Bob! Sorry to hear that this happened to you, and I apologize for the delay responding to your ping here. I was away due to real life stuff and I'm just now getting caught up with all of the Wikipedia messages, emails, pings, and notifications I received while I was away (over 70... haha). At least this issue was taken care of and I'm glad to see that you're back. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:58, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

I've screwed up in the past and reverted a couple of changes you've made before, too... So I'm not exactly innocent from this either, and I'm definitely far, far, so..... so far from being a perfect editor and administrator here. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:13, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Cotabato City, the gift that never stops giving
Another look at this requested. A perennial magnet for unsourced, promotional and copyright violation content. Moonriddengirl, would you have a look re: recent, possibly copied text? Also, I wonder if there's any block evasion continuing there. My fondest wish is that the article be locked. Period. Thanks, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 20:33, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
A little help here would be much appreciated. A. copy edit and maintain NPOV; B. find consensus as to whether the controversy merits inclusion at all; C. consider whether the IP with who's insulted the subject multiple times has earned a block. - Think we've finally got a handle on it. Gotta make some big lifestyle changes (quit smoking after 50 years, start eating like a debutante instead of an ironworker, etc), but it'll happen. I've got a little guy that turns 7 next weekend that needs me. John from Idegon (talk) 04:44, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- That may be the best motivation of all. My father was a long time smoker who quit soon after his first child was born. He lived to be 98. The eating like a debutante business is for the birds, but I'm staring at much the same inevitability. There are only so many hamburgers I can wash down with ice cream before the accounts payable department rings in. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 04:50, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Hagiography written by the artist's son. Nary a legitimate claim to notability, and I'm finding very little online. At the very least this can be stubified--any thoughts on AfD worthiness? Thanks, 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 15:13, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

Ritchie333 Manu0005 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki) is the same person as the new account on that page. Three promotional COI articles, all saying the same thing
Thoughts from experienced colleagues will be appreciated. I can also take this to the BLP board. But this is vanity threefold. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 16:16, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- I glanced at the articles. It would be a bit of a project, but I would redirect the individual articles to the duo article, copying in any noteworthy material about each person to the joint article. Then the hardest part, cleaning up the joint article, which looks like it was written by several 3-year-olds acting independently. As an aside, it's not a good idea to slap COI tags on articles if you don't have a particular editor in mind. BTW, I ain't gonna do any of this. --Bbb23 (talk) 16:42, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you, Bbb23. Agreed re: COI tags; V.D.T.T. (talk · contribs) was very much the particular editor, though subsequently there may have been other accounts. And special thanks to Serial Number 54129 for handling the redirects and copy editing so efficiently. 2601:188:180:1481:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 16:58, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
