Translation of article
[edit]An article you attempted to translate, Falsification of history in Azerbaijan, has been moved to draft space until the translation is completed, specifically the section titled Accusations of falsification of sources. In addition, there are template errors on the page that need to be fixed, image files that need to be fixed, and the article will also require inline citations to be added, especially where there are direct quotations in the article, reliable sources must support the material clearly and directly. The draft can be found here → Draft:Falsification of history in Azerbaijan. When these issues have been addressed, then the draft can be moved back to main space. A request
[edit]Hi. I've got to ask something. So, some of the articles on battles during the Second NK War–Madagiz offensive, Battle of Hadrut, Aras Valley campaign, Lachin offensive–currently have no mention of Armenian commanders. Most I've found are the Azerbaijan-based sources stating "[Armenian name], commander of the X battalion/division/squad, stationed in Y region, got killed". I don't think these would do much. I don't know much Armenian, and use Google Translate when it comes to using Armenian sources. But I've thought that you could give me a hand in this. Also, wish you a happy and a peaceful new year! --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 00:50, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Solavirum: Unfortunately, there is no info about commanders yet. Also, could you remove Seyran Ohanyan's name from Battle of Shusha (2020) article? [1] Happy holidays! Sincerely, Գարիկ Ավագյան (talk) 08:32, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- This is such a weird situation. I saw the report before, but I didn't knew what to do. Armenian and Artsakh gov said during the battle was on that he fought in Shusha,[1][2] with no reaction from Ohanyan at the time. Then, after a month the war ended, he pops up to say that he was not a major commander. And the Armenia-based pro-Russian publications like Sputnik and ArmenianReport grabs that. Seems like Ohanyan still fought there, but not as the main commander ("I helped to form a group of militias in Shushi, there were 16 of us. I was the oldest. On November 5, we were blocked from three sides. Two of my former assistants, Sergei Airapetov and Vahe Sirunyan, who died in battle, behaved heroically. Thanks to their tactics, we managed to break through", per Google Translate). He even stated that he left Shusha a day before the battle concluded. Also, apparently, even Balasanyan wanted to lead the defense army there, but was rejected.[3] There is also this former NSS director reportedly consulting with the commanders there.[4] Everyone in Armenia is trying to take the responsibility of losing Shusha from back of their chest (reminds me of the same situation happened in Azerbaijan during the 90s, where the war lords, commanders and officers blamed each other for loosing the territories), and we still can see the pro-Russian/pro-Western divide here. We might have to talk to an experienced editor on MilHist about this. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 14:00, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Solavirum: I think we should wait a little bit until new sources appear and don't take into account Armenian MoD statements during the war which primary goal was to motivate people regardless and which statements are dubious. Sincerely, Գարիկ Ավագյան (talk) 09:01, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- In this interview [2] he's saying that he was with commanders and left the city on 6 November morning. Sincerely, Գարիկ Ավագյան (talk) 09:04, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

- Yeah, it seems like he was doing something when it comes to leadership. But he isn't the main commander. Ugh, what a bummer, wanted to promote this article to GA, but it seems like this will have to wait. Gog the Mild, as an experienced editor (well, at least per my view), are there any insights you can provide for us in this issue? --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 18:21, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Solavirum, you must be desparate . I reckon that Գարիկ Ավագյան is right in saying wait for more reliable sources to come along. There is nothing wrong per se in using primary sources for factual information like a commander's name. But it seems that here you have non-RS, PoV primary sources which themselves seem to be working off incomplete information. And the secondary sources mentioned above seem, on a quick skim, to be even worse. Better quality sources should - I would have thought - be coming out already in the specialist journals. If there are obvious gaps, just say that there aren't (reliable) sources for whatever it is.
- Re GAN, not having (an RS to identify) the main commander of one side should not be any obstacle to promotion. Unless the RSs are so thin that the article can't cover the basics, you are only required to state what can be RSed to qualify for GA. Gog the Mild (talk) 12:41, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- Գարիկ Ավագյան, I've clarified Ohanyan's role in a footnote, and removed any indication that he was responsible for the whole defence system in the city. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 14:22, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
