lcΣB3 does not archive if template is not in first section
lcΣB3 uses a different method of preventing recursive archiving than the MiszaBots did. it appears the MiszaBots scanned the entire page for the template and only archived section after (logically below?) where the template existed. This was a feature used at least on Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser and may have been used elsewhere. lcΣB3, I believe, looks only in the first section of the page for the template. — Makyen (talk) 01:19, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
Request for archiving assistance
Done
Although Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser includes the MiszaBot I code for automatic archiving, Lowercase sigmabot III isn't archiving the page. Could you please look to see why this isn't happening? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:12, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) [This is based on my inferences as to how the MiszaBots worked based on the above page which was observed as functional then, but is not now.] The issue appears to be that lowercase sigmabot III (lcΣB3) currently uses a different method of preventing archiving of it's own template (and creating recursive pages) than the MiszaBots did. The MiszaBots looked for the template throughout the page and only archived sections after the template. If I recall correctly, lcΣB3 looks for the template only in the first section of the page. I have made changes to Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser which will hopefully get lcΣB3 working on that page. However, I am uncertain that this will solve it. I have not looked to see if lcΣB3 will archive level 2 sections within a level 1 section separately, or if it considers the entirety of the level 1 section to be one archiving task. If it does consider the level 1 to be all one archiving task the changes I made will not work. I do know that lcΣB3 does consider level 2 sections with level 3 children to be all one archiving task. It would have been easy to code it such that it looks for the base section and all descendants. It is after the time when lcΣB3 starts each day, we will probably need to wait 24 hours+ to see if the changes worked, but it might be picked up today.
- However, this change to Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser does not solve the problem of other possible pages on which this feature of the MiszaBots was used. I have changed the title of this section to reflect the generic problem and moved the "Request for archiving assistance" to a level 3 section. — Makyen (talk) 01:19, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Makyen: Looks like that worked today - thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:32, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'm glad to hear it. The page should be much more manageable now. — Makyen (talk) 02:18, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 April newsletter
Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to Czar (submissions) and Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.
192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! ArchiveBot.py
Hi. I am working with pywikibot and I saw this on Lowercase_sigmabot_III page:
This bot was created to replace MiszaBots after the later stopped working and uses an identical configuration syntax.
Does the statement above implies in some way that archivebot.py has flaws, which has been fixed by sigmabot III (the code you posted is different from archivebot.py)? Or you just chose another implementation for other reasons? Can you please elaborate a bit? I just would like to understand if archivebot.py is OK or what are its weak spots. Thanks--Mpaa (talk) 20:14, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- When I submitted the brfa, I had the intention of creating an archive bot that would be free from the ugly horror that is known as Pywikipedia. At the moment, nobody was aware of any bugs in MiszaBot. However, as noted in the brfa, a bug was discovered that is present in MiszaBot but not in my implementation. Thus, MiszaBot does have flaws, which as far as I am aware have not been fixed since they were discovered. →Σσς. (Sigma) 23:25, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

No talkpage archiving since 4 April
Hi, Lowercase_sigmabot_III hasn't archived my talkpage since 4 April, but I'm wondering if that could be because I changed my username a couple of days after that. Is there something I need to update or change to get it working again? Cheers This is Paul (talk) 18:07, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Done Yes, you are correct. The page name is hard coded in the {{User:MiszaBot/config}} and must be changed in order for the bot to run. The archive page name must be a subpage of the page being archived. It is possible for this not to be the case, but requires generation of an appropriate
|key=
which is not normally done. I have made this change on your page. — Makyen (talk) 19:18, 8 May 2014 (UTC)- Thanks, much appreciated. This is Paul (talk) 19:32, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Talkpage archive problem
Hi Σ, I've noticed that my talkpage has not been archiving correctly for a very long time. I have a feeling it's not set up correctly, but don't know how to fix it. I would like lowercase sigmabot III to archive my talkpage monthly, and, when it does, archive all but the most recent post. Is that possible? Help! :) ~ Anastasia (talk) 02:55, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Unfortunately, exactly what you have requested is not possible. However, my saying "not possible" may be that I am interpreting what you said as an exact request rather than what you probably meant. Based on what you said and the way that your talk page archiving has been set up for quite a while, I believe what you want is for threads older than 30 days to be archived at or near the time they become 30 days old. This can be done and is how your configuration is currently set up.
- I believe the actual issue is that you have seen a few, and then several, threads accumulate well beyond the 30 days and not be archived. These threads have migrated to the top of your page and are not being removed as you are expecting them to be. The issue is that the threads contain no date which the bot will recognize and use to determine that the thread is more than 30 days old.
- There are two solutions to this problem:
- Put dates in each thread so that they are recognized by lowercase sigmabot III and archived. This is usually done by adding one of the {{subst:unsigned}}, {{subst:unsigned2}}, {{subst:unsignedIP}} or {{subst:unsignedIP2}} templates a single time per unsigned contribution to your talk page. Personally I use the "2" versions as I find them easier. If you use them you must add " (UTC)" to the timecode used [note space prior to the "(UTC)"].
- Manually archive the threads without dates. This can either be done by hand, or you can set up and use the script User:Equazcion/OneClickArchiver.
- Number 1 is much easier to do on an ongoing basis as threads are added; just look to make sure they have a valid date as the last part of the signature. If they don't then add one of the above templates with the date and user/IP information.
- Number 2 is an easier solution at the moment because of the larger number of threads.
- I will manually archive the threads I believe you are concerned about. — Makyen (talk) 03:58, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- Having just re-read what you posted above it appears that your configuration is slightly different than what you describe (translated for what the bot can do). Currently the bot will leave at least 2 threads on your page. If you desire to reduce that to leaving a minimum of 1 thread then change
|minthreadsleft=2
to|minthreadsleft=1
. — Makyen (talk) 04:07, 10 May 2014 (UTC)- Thank you so much, Makyen! Yes, that is what I meant, I wrote that last night when I was tired :) I will do as you have suggested in the future, and fix the
|minthreadsleft=
parameter. Thanks again! ~ Anastasia (talk) 12:59, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Not archiving
Hi,
For a while now I've tried setting up archiving for my talk page. I haven't had it archive once. Would it be possible to have somebody look over this for me? I'm sure I'm doing it right, lol.
Thanks :) TheEpTic (talk) 00:28, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- Done It should be done. While it should not have prevented archiving, the counter was wrong at 23. It should have been 1. Because I did not immediately see the true cause of the problem, I dropped in a standard config and adjusted to the 2 days delay to archiving which you had set up. That is a very short period of time. You might want to make that a bit longer.
|maxarchivesize=40k
is also a bit small. 100k or so is a bit more normal. However, neither of those parameters should prevent archiving. — Makyen (talk) 01:26, 14 May 2014 (UTC)- Thank you very much. I appreciate the help! :) TheEpTic (talk) 01:35, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
