Hi, I noticed you created a new article in the "Wikipedia:" namespace. This was likely an error; that namespace is for information internal to Wikipedia, like how to edit a page or noticeboards for other editors. I have moved it to Draft:Drop the Needle Movie. Tollens (talk) 07:53, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I typed in the title as 'Drop the Needle Movie', it was assigned that url.
This page is not a draft it is ready to be published. Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 07:56, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As it stands there are no sources in your article – sources are required to demonstrate what we call notability here on Wikipedia (which has very little to do with the typical sense of the word). Before an article can be published, it needs to be demonstrated that multiple reliable sources unconnected to the subject have written about the topic. Additionally, the summary as written is not in an encyclopedic tone: phrases like "almost like a whirlwind" or "creative boon", for instance, aren't appropriate for Wikipedia articles. I've added a template that will allow you to submit the article for review once you think it's ready, but if you choose to do so now you will likely be told what I have just told you here. Tollens (talk) 08:13, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tollens, thanks for your response it was very informative. My draft is ready for submital but the 'submit for review' button at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/Submitting&withJS=MediaWiki:AFC-submit-wizard.js is not working? Is there anything I can do? I've clicked multiple times & nothing happens. Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 20:55, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working. I've submitted it on your behalf. Tollens (talk) 05:16, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My problem isn't with the citations themselves. It's how you cite them. You haven't bothered with implementing inline citations. For an example of a movie which fulfills that, see The Room or Star Trek: The Motion Picture. OhHaiMark (talk) 12:04, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mirrors

[edit]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article List of Canadian hip hop musicians. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. Sam Kuru (talk) 00:26, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Sam, this is a list ((see: Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists)), not an article.

As far as "mirroring" is concerned - you may want to cite specific areas you are talking about that are attributed specifically to me & point to examples.

I literally search, find an article, archive it & copy the citation info directly from the SOURCE. Not Wikipedia.

I DO link to the source's Wikipedia page if applicable:
(ie website= [[Exclaim!]]".

Did you actually look at the actual code of my citations? The url links do not point to Wikipedia, they link directly to the SOURCE or Archived Source:

(ie: url=https://nsi-canada.ca/film/blind-swordsmen-by-babylon-warchild/

OR

(ie: archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/archive/0SS1U).

As far as the list page content:
I invite you to take a look at other lists on Wikipedia that do the same thing. Most have zero citations. This example is mentioned in the actual Wikipedia list style guide: List of American film actresses, all the links on the page are Wikipedia links & there are barely any citations.

I am sorry if any of my short descriptions sounds like another article, but I assure you I use solely Wikipedia links within the descriptions as clarification for people who may like to contribute - the words are mine & mine alone. There were no descriptions previously.

Also, when I started working on this Stand Alone list - there were a handful of citations on the list page. I am passionate about this subject & have already done tons of work to improve this page.

I am in the process of adding better citations. The Discogs links are there to show me the Artists other aliases, so I can find more credible sources. I do this in my spare time & have to come back to it, time allowing.

This Stand Alone List is a Work in process (WIP), just like any of these other pages. Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 02:49, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm aware of what a list is. The mirror in question is the one I removed from the list explicitly calling it a mirror (here). The site clearly credits Wikipedia at the bottom of the page and mirrors content from a deleted article here and at Simple Wikipedia. Additionally, please don't use google search results as sources; the little AI panels often copy from here and other junk sources and are not WP:RS themselves. Let me know if you have any other questions. Sam Kuru (talk) 03:36, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, better. Thank you - I was not sure what you were referencing based on your note. Next time when leaving a note for a user, it'll be very helpful if you link directly to the area in question. For clarity.

I realize that Google is a landmine - I was using as a place holder. Was going to come back & correct with better sources. Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 04:09, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions to List of American hip hop musicians. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and WP:LISTCRUFT and overly generic list. Please make a more specific list of hip hop subgenres.. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Florificapis (talk) 22:45, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I think I inadvertently made a new talk post instead of replying to you.

I had just created this list & within 2 minutes it was flagged as having 'no sources', it had no content, yet - just categories. I talked to the admin & they put it in draft & we agreed to publish when more content was added, then your notice showed up 2 minutes after that.

For a newcomer it feels like a consistent barrage of flagging.

My post reflects some of that frustration. Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 20:13, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Generic List?

[edit]

I am working on List of Canadian hip hop musicians & have added the same categories.

Why doesn't  Canadain hip-hop have the same variations? It does, hiphop subgenres that are flourishing across the country, even in the most French parts of Montreal.

There is not one list on Wikipedia that has all hip-hop related Artists for the  United States. The main genre is 50+ years old. I think it's about time to have a page that celebrates the diversity of the subgenres, on one page.

The problem I have noticed working on the list is that even the most prolific of collectives/acts in  Canadain Hip-hop do not qualify as notable per Wikipedia, because most of the time they are underground or do not care about mainstream media.

Mainstream media should not be a thermometer for how much impact people make on a culture - that is a fairly new phenomenon.

Oral traditions are still alive & well, this is how hip-hop flourishes. Wikipedia wants to be the 'go to' for subjects & people yet seems to rally against documenting important ones within the zatgeist of a culture. Which is ridiculous because you should honor the birthers of your craft, how do you do this within the confines of notability on Wikipedia? It is kind of frustrating to be honest.

As far as the American list: US Artists are more readily documented & have more established pages to link to. I think having a 'go to' page with everything hip-hop related on Wikipedia, that falls into these categories, for the  United States will act as a means of directing people to new pages & Artists they haven't heard of. All cultures have echo chambers & hip-hop isn't immune to this either. Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 19:38, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mainstream media should not be a thermometer for how much impact people make on a culture - that is a fairly new phenomenon.
"Notability" in the Wikipedia definition of the term is not about impact, but about whether a reliably sourced, encyclopedic article can be written. Mainstream media isn't the only thing considered to be a reliable source, and, if oral traditions are reliably compiled by specialists of the topic, they can definitely help notability! The issue is that, without such documentation, word-of-mouth is difficult to verify as a source. You can't just add something on Wikipedia based on "someone told me so", as no one else can verify it actually happened. Which is why it would be great to see oral traditions be well-documented, so they can subsequently be used as references on Wikipedia. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 00:32, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have any archival experience outside of the web? Like actual historical or genealogical? I do.

I am well aware the importance of citation & sources. You seem to have made some assumptions, or maybe you see what I wrote through some other lens then what I intended? Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 19:15, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you noticed I have added at least 30 citations to the page, right? So when you added your flag I was unable to edit to add the citations needed for said content.

Also it should be noted that said content was NOT verbatim. I wrote it in my own words & even rewrote for "neutrality".

If you removed the content, then why is there a flag remaining? Ɠɧơʂɬɛɖ (talk) 07:57, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Ghosted. I removed the content because it was seemingly copied from an external source. That's not okay. Let's look at an example together.
For convenience, I bolded identical words.
In 1991 Mr. Wiggles approached Crazy Legs about an idea he and Fable (Magnificent Force) had for a Hip Hop musical. Crazy Legs (with the help of Mr. Wiggles) then needed to persuade Ken Swift to start dancing again in order to have Ken involved as well. (from [1]

I'm not seeing any original writing of yours here. The number of citations you were going to add to it is irrelevant if it isn't your own work.
And the flag is simply a request for an administrator to look at the page and permanently delete the infringing material from the page's history. You don't need to worry about it. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 08:21, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
